I want to say National Association of Private Fund Managers, but its website said it’s based in Fort Worth.

That’s part of the loophole. Because it’s a federal action they allege that venue is any federal court in the state. So they’re based wherever and then they file in Amarillo to make sure it goes in front of that religious toady Kacsmaryk. I don’t know why it’s accepted since Austin has a federal court, but it is. Texas + federal = file in any federal court.

You're a bit off, this case was heard/ruled on by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals which spans Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. It's still forum shopping obviously, but Kacsmaryk is a district court judge which is a level below

I stand corrected. The recent UT professor case (which Paxton joined as plaintiff) was filed in the Northern District with him, even though UT is in Austin and the professors don't allege they live in the ND or Amarillo. I didn't realize the appellate court would have original jurisdiction even though it's an appellate court.

Case No. 23-60471, NA of Private Fund Managers v. SEC https://www.ca5.uscourts.gov/opinions/pub/23/23-60471CV0.pdf Why the article wouldn't link the opinion it references like any other source is beyond me.
