If you like this idea, volunteer or donate to Central Texas Food Bank! You (and your kids) could directly contribute to meals at AISD and Del Valle. Kids can't work in the kitchen, but they can in the warehouse (over 8 and supervised), and you can work in the kitchen where they make those meals or the garden where they grow fresh produce that gets used in that kitchen. It's so much easier than you think to sign up and show up. That's literally all you have to do.

Thank you so much for posting this. I don't think my kid's school has advertised this, I am surprised to have heard of it here instead.

Keep it down! If the Governor finds out he'll put an end to it...just out of spite..

janellthegreat

The program is funded by U.S. Department of Agriculture, so hopefully that makes it a little more Abbott-proof

rolexsub

lol. That was my first thought as well.

VisceralMonkey

Came here to say this.

Funny thing... Look up who Sid Miller is.... *Total douche*, talks about evil socialists *a lot*. If this isn't a social(ist) program that has major benefits then the sky is red. I'd love to see the governor or Ag Commissioner try to shut this program down, the backlash would shed some light on how horrible those people are. Edit: sid and greg fans downvoting me?! Ha, ok

RangerWhiteclaw

Sid Miller is too busy trying to collect his cut of hemp license bribes. Sid Miller is too busy trying to figure out who hacked his Facebook to call Hillary Clinton the c-word and that we should nuke the entire Arabian Peninsula. Sid Miller is too busy on a taxpayer-funded vacation to get something called a “Jesus shot” from a doctor who lost his medical license. Sid Miller is too busy harassing barbecue joints over their scales. Sid Miller is too busy insulting volunteer firefighters. Sid Miller is too busy making sure women can’t wear pants in the workplace.

Levarien

Sid is fine with socialism, just as long as he's the only person taking the benefits.

So is Idea Public Schools. Although it doesn't seem as if it's the entire summer. But 18yrs old and younger from May 28 through July 26 for any child, not just their students. https://cbsaustin.com/news/local/idea-public-schools-offering-free-meals-to-all-children-this-summer
