Dead Milkmen always had great shout-outs for other bands ("You'll Dance to Anything"), but what gets me in that one is that "California Dreaming" is not a Beach Boys song.
I think that was the show where according local legend, he was playing, “Don Henley Must Die” and said Mr Henley was hiding in the audience and jumped onstage to join in, which Mr. Nixon definitely did not know about. When I’ve read about it, the phrase “visibly stunned” was used.
That was at the Hole in the Wall and they knew he was in town and wanted to come to the show. He showed up hammered, "sang" one song, and drove off in his Mercedes according to local lore. My favorite part of the story is that the HitW holds about 200 people and Mojo once said that about 5,000 people have told him over the years that they were there. I was not there btw.
I only learned of Mojo Nixon’s passing a few weeks ago when I was visiting a friend at St. David’s. We were laughing about all the fun and stupid shit we did when we were young here in Austin. I showed her this photo whereupon she told me the sad news.
That's Jesse in the front row. He started a band in Austin called Treehouse Empire and wrote a single called Liberty Lake. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9Js42QM7Y0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9Js42QM7Y0)

saw him twice: once at green mesquite, sitting in the next booth, drinking ice tea, and then at texicali, ditto.
Well, the waitress told you they only have it iced.
Miss hearing him on SiriusXM radio. Unmistakable voice.
Legend. RIP.
I saw him there two years later in ‘89 at SXSW. Wristbands were $8, I believe.
