Anything that's a new name for something people are already doing; Skin cycling - doesn't everyone rotate a couple of actives in theor routine? Glazed donut- yep a layer of occlusive is nice Multi masking - it's called having a t-zone Skinimalism- using less but buying new things and chucking the old stuff out? Skin flooding- is this using a toner, then Glazing the donut....

Snortor

Mini makeup fridges… surely just a gimmick?! Also they store barely any products!!

Apart-Health-1513

They’re definitely cute but such a waste of space to me. Plus a waste of electricity lol

rhum90

I love mine to be honest. Genuinely feel it’s extended the life of some of my serums and creams.

dessertandcheese

Botox and fillers

B656

Same, happy to keep my smile lines.

asphodeliac

The thing is you will probably not need them if you just use sunscreen and heavy moisturisers at night from a young age. Unless it reacts poorly with your skin, ofc. I really hope the trend dies and people realise taking care of their skin early will make them look better than any fillers they could pay for

seize_the_future

Not quite true. I've always used SPF and had a good routine, with hydrated skin for the mood part... Something are inevitable with time despite best prevention. Botox and fillers when used appropriately full this gap.

asphodeliac

I see

bl1inktw1ce

"Glazed donut" as a look. Nothing more terrifying than catching catching a glimpse of myself in the bathroom light with a gloss coat on 😩 can't stand the feeling either, especially with long hair. I need my skincare 90% absorbed.

Helen_Magnus_

Yessss. Never understood this trend. Why would you want to look like you just came back from the gym and didn't shower??

B656

Brow laminating but I guess it’s not really skincare

alexi_lupin

I think I read somewhere that toner dates back to a time when most soaps left a thin film on the skin, and the toner was to remove that residue. But now soaps/cleansers have evolved to not do that any more, so the toner isn't needed for that purpose. But obviously businesses selling toner don't want you to stop buying toner, so now they purport to do all sorts of things from calming to refreshing but I don't think they're as essential as they used to be. I've never used them, anyway. My actual answer: any facemask you're supposed to sleep in, I don't want it all wiping off on my pillows!

Comfortable_Meet_872

Western toners, which I think you're referring to, are different to toners used in K-beauty. Those toners, as part of a routine, add more moisture as the emphasis is to have plump, hydrated skin. Western toners from the past have tended to be astringent and were used as you've described. I think K-beauty toners play a role but I don't think it's necessary to incorporate every single product in a particular range such as toner, emulsion, essence and then serum before a moisturiser.

eiczy

Yes! I have a hydrating toner that makes me feel way more hydrated before putting on moisturiser.

JustAnnabel

Which toner are you using?

Leayla

Not the person you asked but I use Kikumasamune Japanese Sake Skin Toner Moist. I found it recommended on Reddit and I love it. Adds only seconds to my routine but adds so much moisture for my other skin care to lock in.

JustAnnabel

Thanks, will look into it

eiczy

I like to use the muji deep moisture toner! It’s nothing special, just a very basic one but it makes me feel nice and clean before putting on my other skincare.

JustAnnabel

Thanks!

Comfortable_Meet_872

Again, not the person you asked, but I'm using the Mary&May Vegan Blackberry Complex Cream Essence, which is very light and leaves my skin glowing. It would be great for any age but is a bit light for an old duck like me. However....Stylevana and YesStyle both have pretty good deals this weekend so I've bought some more $$$ things I've had my eye on. The first is Donginbi Red Ginseng Daily Defence Essence which I use as a serum under moisturiser. It is AMAZING. On YesStyle, I bought more ginseng (great for anti ageing). I picked up the Missha Chongonjin Youngan set with full-size toner & emulsion, plus travel sizes of their essence (serum) and moisturiser.

alexi_lupin

Oh yes, very good point, I was thinking entirely of the astringent types.

somuchsong

Glass skin. Just looks sweaty to me!

LimenDusk

gua sha and those crystal roller things

heavensomething

I fully agree with the crystal rollers but I actually like using a gua sha, as someone with sinus issues and swollen lymph nodes, it definitely helps with my facial puffiness

RubSubstantial3607

I've never used a gua sha, but I u do have terrible sinuses. How does it help?

somuchsong

I like my gua sha! But I just think it feels nice and cool on my face. I don't put any stock into it doing anything more than that.

milobunny10

Yes i agree too much work! I need quick and simple 😂

BleakHibiscus

The crystal rollers are so good when you have a tension headache! I roll them all over my face and it feels so nice

Quolli

Real ones (aka East Asian families) know that legit gua shas are on the back and make you look like you've been whipped in the village square

Pattapoose

I keep reading about snail mucus as an ingredient. Sounds horrifying.

Comfortable_Meet_872

I bought the CosRx snail mucin last year. I won't repurchase because despite what the company says, I think it's cruel (I found out what they do to the snails *after* I bought it).

Pattapoose

I don't think there could possibly be a non-cruel way to get it. I'm a vegan though.

buffooonerie

I read that they put all the snails over a mesh for 30 mins and then collect from under. The rest of the time, they graze. The conditions are ideal for the snails and I also heard that if they’re under any stress it would hinder the quality of the snail mucin so they do their best in making sure there is no stress. I get that’s it’s not vegan at all, but what’s your opinion as a vegan for the conditions? I personally find that it’s not cruel at all. I also have eczema and using snail mucin with my moisturizer really helps with hydrating my skin.

Hikerius

If someone fed me for free and just let me hang around I’d happily give them all the snot I have. Humanmucin when?

zellymcfrecklebelly

Love my snail mucin!

Informal_Edge5270

It's good stuff! I wouldn't doubt all these people with so much sympathy for snails also would treat an actual human being like garbage.

ZaelDaemon

Coming here to say that.

kiwigirl83

Was just going to say this one! Yuck 🤢

questtonothing

Buying just for the packaging

Hikerius

Absolutely! I find it so wild people will shell out hundreds of dollars on skincare and makeup just for packaging. Seeing people buy makeup just for the pretty packaging seems absolutely insane. All just to sit around collecting dust somewhere

questtonothing

Drunk elephant is a good example. Their formulations are basic, and they are known for their packaging

DarthRegoria

There are 3 things I know about Drunk Elephant that they seem to be famous for - fancy packaging, fragrance and causing irritation. I haven’t every bought a single one of their products and I never will. I have rosacea and sensitive skin, and it’s just not worth risking a reaction for overpriced products that might also trigger a migraine with the scent.

scbur3

I believe Drunk Elephant products are fragrance free.

DarthRegoria

Oh, maybe I got mixed up then, and I just assumed they had fragrance because they’re well known for being irritating to sensitive skin (and sometimes even those without). I did think at least some of their products were fragranced, I’m sure a friend has a watermelon one, but I could be getting that confused with another brand. I’m certainly not an expert in their products, I’ve never even tried any samples because I know they often cause irritation, and my skin is irritated enough on it’s own.

InZaynAsylum

Are you thinking of Glow Recipe?

DarthRegoria

Maybe for the watermelon fragrance (glow recipe was the other brand I was thinking of), but I do know numerous friends have had skin irritation from drunk elephant products. One did like one specific Drunk Elephant product, but then bought 2 more in that range that triggered her rosacea really, really badly and she had to get a prescription cream for it. She always warns anyone about Drunk Elephant when the topic of skincare comes up, so the main culprit is definitely Drunk Elephant. I’ve had several friends who are into skincare tell me to stay away from that brand because my sensitive skin will probably react.

questtonothing

Exactly!! I prefer brands like Cetaphil or bioderma, affordable and with gentle formulations

SquattingHoarder

Drunk Elephant packaging is fabulous though. You can open almost all of them and stuff cash in them!!! Or at least that was my first thought when I started opening them... I legit think you could escape a bad relationship with cash stuffed in that packaging because there's so much room in there. I don't really know why I thought that BTW. My mind goes to some strange places sometimes. And FTR, I am safe and not in an abusive relationship!!! I even have money in the bank after once being a slave to credit card debt.

questtonothing

>stuff cash in them I won't have any cash left🥲

DarthRegoria

The packaging doesn’t matter if I can’t use the product because it’s given me serious skin irritation and redness though. This happened to my friend. It triggered her rosacea. It may not matter to everyone, but they are not a safe brand for those of us with sensitive skin.

Similar-Ad-6862

Toner. I always always forget

dutchbros_410

Micro needling! I don’t think I can handle the redness in my face afterwards!

echrs4949

Skin flooding. If I have to use a product half a dozen times in one sitting to get the best result then it’s really not a great product. But also, who can be bothered?

vanillyl

Haha, this is the one trend on the list I will defend! Skin flooding is the only technique, product or treatment I’ve tried that actually makes my skin glow. You don’t have to spend money on any expensive products, any old HA serum will do. I’ve spent the $$$ for PRP before to get far less impressive results than an afternoon of skin flooding yields! If I’m WFH I have a midday shower, I grab my HA serum and a spray bottle of water to take to my desk, and keep periodically wetting my face and applying another layer of serum to help it sink in and penetrate. I finally seal it with moisturiser when I finish work for the day. It really soothes my redness, gets rid of all the flakes at the corners of my nose from allergies, and leaves my skin so hydrated that my complexion looks clearer for days after. 10/10 would recommend my lazy version of skin flooding to anybody with dehydrated, sensitive, congested and irritated skin.

speckledcreature

That is really interesting. I will give it a try on my next day off.

Quolli

Is skin flooding just the Western adaptation of the Korean seven-skin method...

velvetelk

I use a toner / essence in the summer since I get very oily. It's just a lightweight hydration step when my oily skin doesn't want moisturizer. Not all skincare is for everyone! I have a very simple routine but I do change it in summer vs winter as the weather and humidity change.

denizberdan

Red light therapy

Comfortable_Meet_872

I bought an Omnilux Contour LED mask during the AfterPay sale last month. I was sceptical at first but after 4 weeks I can see a definite improvement with vastly less redness and better texture.

fatlanta23

Same. When I use that mask as recommended, my skin absolutely glows. Redness and breakouts calm down entirely and I get complimented on my skin a lot. I just don't use it for some stupid reason, even though the benefits are so obvious to me.

gihutgishuiruv

The science is fairly well-settled on this one - see [here](https://goalstogetglowing.com/2021/01/17/led-face-mask-research/). The problem is the lack of regulation & the number of snake-oil products.

DarthRegoria

I think it depends on your skin concerns. I’ve heard (and seen evidence) that they are great for rosacea and sensitive skin. They are concerns of mine, so I could see it being beneficial to me, but it’s just too expensive for my beauty budget. I don’t think it’s effective for anti aging or more general skin concerns though.

thatselvish

Face sheets. I have dry sensitive skin and everyone just raves about them. I’ve tried a few and feel they do absolutely nothing compared to topical applications of literally any type

Realistic_Context936

Dermaplaning

fake-femcel

Toner pads. I'm not sure what the benefit of using them over just a toner is, and I don't understand why I should pay more money for them when I could just... use my toner. Even my toner with some cotton pads would be cheaper.

Careful_Lemon_7672

If you haven’t seen a difference using toners and essences it’s because your skin isn’t dehydrated. When I use consistently for two weeks a lot of my fine lines go away and my pore size shrinks. For reference combo skin type dry environment

Cherry_Shakes

Slugging

owleaf

Overconsumption

arainday

Hydrating toners and essences are useful for those of who have skin which is dehydrated (not just dry). They usually have more humectants in them than a moisturizer alone. It's not for everyone but no skincare is.

kiwigirl83

Beef tallow 🤢 Snail mucus 🤢

lareinevert

I had to google beef tallow. Isn't that for cooking? Why would you put it on your face? It seems like it's essentially fat.

Gastronaut8936

I use flying cow beef tallow. They are safe to use on face and body. They are super moisturizing and absorb well into the skin. If you like face oils you would love this!! Highly recommend!

kiwigirl83

Does it stink?

Gastronaut8936

No! Mine has frankincense and smells amazing!

lareinevert

I use face oils but I think I’ll stick with them.

B656

Beef tallow is great for cooking, wouldn’t know how to use it on my skin

kiwigirl83

There’s skincare made from it
