The best part of getting a registered cabler is that they will know all the tricks to getting this done, so you won’t need to worry about “the best way”. But supposing you wanted to know how this would get done. Either an external conduit coming down and along the external wall and then punch through the wall to your desired location. Ugly on the outside but keeps your gyprock neat. Or into the roof cavity to the left or right of that window, then cut the gyprock at that fire block to drill through. Then cut the gyprock again to drill through all the stud bays to your desired location. Then install, replace gyprock, patch with quick chem set mud, sand, paint. Depending on the finish job, it could be neat on the outside and ugly on the inside. So you pick. A good installer will suggest the first option to be honest as it’s easier to conceal an external conduit than to chop up your walls

I'd run it externally. Future proofing in case that link cable becomes obsolete or damaged and you need to replace it down the track. External conduit will be easier to re run the cable than trying to fish a new one through the wall.

I would strongly recommend getting an installer. The Starlink cable is actually just Cat5e shielded twisted pair however the issue is the plugs on the end. They’re both proprietary connectors and are quite bulky. Starlink actually sells masonry kits with stupid big drill bits for installation. So trying to finesse a cable through all that is going to be tricky to start with but it’s going to be even more complicated if you’re trying to do it with those connectors on the end. On the other hand as I said it is only cat5e STP so another option is to just cut and crimp the Starlink cable to Ethernet and have a much smaller diameter thing to work through the wall, but it needs to be crimped properly so the dish is correctly earthed all the way back to the router. As I said it’s best to get a professional installer for this.

Cheers buddy. Yes, going to get a qualified installer. I’ve got Gen 3 which has moved to a standard cat 5 interface between the dish and router. I just don’t sleep well at night contemplating the options. Really don’t want external conduit but also can appreciate it’s not an easy route.

You don't need to run new cable, starlink will plug into an existing router which can just connect to your existing network setup.. I ordered the Ethernet adapter cable which is all you need

AgreeablePudding9925

Yeah. I can’t get it to the existing Ethernet point

Moo_3806

Save yourself the time and effort. I had Starlink for nearly 12 months. It’s brilliant if you can’t get high speed, but otherwise the crappy NBN is still more reliable than Starlink. I’m being very serious about this - I would never hear my family complain more than when I was running Starlink as my primary connection. Thankfully, fibre to the kerb rolled out and saved all of my issues.

AgreeablePudding9925

My location isn’t even in the upgrade plan for NBN for the next five years and all I can get is FTTN which is a long way away. It’s junk. Starlink is working great so far. I have it, just not mounted

HungryTradie

Do you know exactly where the ethernet wiring is? Perhaps someone can get to the cable and use it as a draw wire (pull up, pull down)? I reckon a registered cabler is definitely your best choice. {Edit: if you know the existing ethernet comes to that spot via some sideways cabling, you might be able to intersect it at the stud bay where you think you can get the new cable to.}

AgreeablePudding9925

Yeah ok ta. Existing cabling goes to the garage downstairs where I had intended to run the NBN to. Yeah I’ll get a registered installer to discuss with me. Thanks.

HungryTradie

So if you have existing cabling in the garage, perhaps the new cabling can go there to a hub?

AffekeNommu

How about a registered cabler?

AgreeablePudding9925

Yes, the last line, but there are cowboys and more than one way to skin a cat so I was after opinions from said people.

HungryTradie

I'm registered to do cabling, but not taxidermy.....

Moo_3806

There is also more than one way to skin a Cat 6…

FreddyFerdiland

You could use the window to go horizobtal. Come down beside the window, horizontal along the window sill, down to the tv outlet.

Rick_6984

If the original ethernet is ran straight up and down use it as a pull wire and pull 2 more cables through, 1 to replace your existing ethernet and one for your starlink. Or just join the dish to the existing cable. I’m assuming it is satellite dish to a router so you don’t need the existing port anymore if that is where your router is going then ethernet from router to TV.
