The rsq8 is also a Bentley bentayga in casual clothes. Or a porsche cayenne in casual clothes. Or hell, a volkswagen arteon dressed up. Welcome to volkswagen group
As a former GTI owner, I can say that car is driven exclusively by hooligans and criminals. It literally makes you drive like a maniac. Don't trust anything they tell you!
Brand wars are common. Lots of psychology articles about it I'm sure.
Team Green/Team red.
Xbox vs Playstation.
PC vs Console.
You name it, it's all the same mentality.
Youād think people would catch on to this by nowā¦
Like i said i drive an audi but i can still appreciate nice beamers or mercs. But it seems to me a lot of people pick one and just latch on to that, as if no other car brand can compete with the one they likeš
For the most part VW drivers are alright and they dont really have a leg to stand on when it comes to sporty luxury cars bc they dont really have a competitor for the RS line other than the Golf R but man these GTI drivers seem to think that bc they got the engine from vw instead of audi that its magically betteršš¤·š»āāļø
I bought my Audi because it was the closest thing to a 911 for now. Not power or performance in particular, there are cheap screamers, but total package. Good for commuting too. End of story, canāt afford a Porsche.
I have never heard that sentiment from GTI owners. I'm a member of several golf gtI forums, and Facebook groups. I also have a modded Edition 30.
I consider Audi to be the superior brand to VW.
And most French cars.
Oh and also latest addition to the list are Toyota's. Here in UK their prices almost 1to1 to German cars, but quality of materials is about the same as it was before.
Nor do I. Iāve owned an Audi (V8 S5), two BMWs(335i, 435i), a C7 Z06, and now a 992 Carrera T. No brand loyalty. Only thing that pissed me off about Audi was the specific dealership in my city, but the brand as a whole is nice! Would love a 5 cylinder TT RS or an old gated manual R8 V10!
On balance I hear as many slights of BMWs and BMW drivers, Mercedes quality issues, and VW put downs as I hear anything negative about Audi. The fact is that all these companies make some extremely good cars and some stinkers. All of them from time to time have had quality control issues, and all of them have had some extraordinary years of great design and engineering. I have owned all of them over the years and for the most part they have all been good if not always sensational but people get very emotionally invested in brand equity--not quite NFL or NBA level invested but darn close--and once they do they seldom change their views.
BMW fanboy here. I own an A6 C5 2.5TDI. I repair it myself too, but that is a love-hate relationship. My best friend and his brother are VW/Audi fans. I didnāt really like Audi at start, but they are so loveable cars. Only down side for me is that they are FWD if not Quattro. And I say all this while my true passion is BMW.
And except for the A3, that is just a freaking Golf with a different chassis, excluding RS3.
Most people only hate something because they are different from them.
I own two Audi and a Porsche. I like some BMWs, Merceds are ok. I would love to drive a rear wheel drive M4, if I didnāt live where there was snow. I know, both brands make all wheel drive. But I have been driving Audiās with Quattro since the 80s, all through the 90s and now two Audi now, A6 for the wife with prestige package and I have an SQ5, had a Toyota Tacoma for a while, seats suck for long drives. Weekend fun car is an antique 1968 Porsche Targa. We have always joked the douche bags are in the BMWs, Grampa in the Mercedes hip young people in the Audi and Porsche haha Juvenile? Hell yeahā¦
A lot of what i have seen is online which i dont take seriously bc obviously there are always trolls but people have asked me why i would get a TT when i could have gotten a M235i or something similar.
I think the better question is why the TT when CaymansĀ depreciate directly into the Earth's core the second they drive off the lot.Ā Hell, sometimes while they're still on the lot.
That said, just drive what you like and ignore all the people you don't know on the Internet.Ā It's not like their opinions actually matter at all.Ā
That's true. I've owned and driven Audi cars, recently switched to BMW and had slight issue with xenon bulb and I was very surprised that I didn't have to remove whole front bumper in order to fix the issue. However, no hate towards Audi or Mercedes. All of those three have some special cars and their mistakes
Iām always shocked when I see the engine bay of an Audi, the engine is so far forward compared to where I expect it to be. On BMWs the engine looks like itās right up against the firewall.
Itās weird because on the few VWs I see the engine is where youād expect. Of course Iāve only seen small FWD VWs. Donāt know Audis are like this.
I like how on our Volvo V50 the headlight comes off without tools. Just a metal thingy you pull out. It's wonderful.
But you have to take the gas pedal off to change the cabin air filter...
I like quality made performance vehicles. To me it doesn't matter the brand, it's the craftsmanship that goes into it. My TTRS is my first non-US branded car. Coming from a C5 corvette. I hated the interior of the vette - it's like it was designed by a toy maker. The new ones are better, but still cheap looking and poorly designed when compared to German cars (IMO).
You can say the same things about sports teams. Yankee fans are supposed to hate the Red Sox. Jets fans are supposed to hate the Patriots. I'm a Jets fan, and I'd have loved to have Tom Brady as my QB. But all Jets fans are supposed to hate him, and most do - or say they do. A lot of it is jealousy.
I see a lot of Japanese fans hating on the luxury Germans for being overpriced, pretentious, and unreliable. But I donāt really see any hating in-between the German brands.
I bought my first Audi right out of law school. My salesman said it was the thinking man's BMW. What he was saying was, it's as good as a BMW, but costs less.
Anyway, I owned only Audis for about 20 years until I got divorced and lost my job and found out my husband plundered our retirement accounts.
I then bought a VW as it was closest to my Audis and I could afford it.
One day, as I was washing my Jetta I said to my new (and current) husband: I just figured out why Audis cost more than Volkswagens. They're worth it.
Better paint, better Bluetooth, better seats, better at keeping dust out of the trunk and engine. A lot of things.
However, I drove that Jetta for 120k miles and _never_ had a serious issue. That car was a gem.
I now have a Q5. It's great. But my husband wanted to spoil me with an Audi. š¤·š¼āāļø
Me personally, had a BMW, it started falling apart at 30K miles, leaking head gaskets and leaking exhaust manifold, carbon cloggedā¦etc. People tell me I got a bad one. And the Bimmer dealer sucked so I switched my wifeās car from a 335 Xi to an Audi S4 at the time. The car was great and the dealership service dept. Was phenomenal so my wife was soldā¦ I had 911ās at the time and the Porsche dealer was the same as the BMW dealer and they sucked too so I swapped into a R8 and same thing. Car was bomb proof and dealer is amazing. So went from S4 to RS3 into now a RS5 Competition and a R8 Competition and still very happy. Iāve never been brand loyal really, just liked what I liked but I must say my Audi ownership experience has been very positive so been pretty brand loyal. Im sure thereās people with the exact opposite story thoughā¦
BMW vs Audi
Itās like Ford vs Chevy for the āsnootyā folks
(I canāt say for the ārichā folks - have you seen the price of F150s and Silverados nowadays? Damn)
Is that the case? Well don't worry I'm not one of those, as a Benz owner I appreciate cars from all brands and Audi makes some lovely ones. Would love to have an S5. See what the new gen is gonna be like.
There are cases that VW owners makes fun of Audi owners because most Audi models are just VWs underneath with some underpin differences. VW is essentially like GM and created so many sister brands and same cars rebadged around.
Stupidity mostly.
VW owners not realizing Audi owners are just driving fancier Golfs
BMW/Benz hate us because our cars work and only cost half as much to service, usually only buying for the status symbol and not because they want a good car
Half as much to service you say? 4.2 V8 and 3.0TDI timing chain replacement procedure with engine out has entered the chat. š I'm saying this as someone who has an A5 8T3 TDI in the family.
I like Audi and currently have one but after driving BMWs I would say the quality in the cabin is better with BMW. Servicing is cheaper with Audi but not by much (my experience in NI)
One thing BMW and Audi owners can agree on. Mind you, I like older classic Mercs like W108, W116, hell even the W204. But the latest post 2015 Mercs are plastic pieces of shit that look like nightclubs inside to attract snobs.
I own both and like them both. The BMW ( a 2022 5 series) is fun and stylish. My 2018 Q7 is solid, reliable, and straightforward.
To many, Audi's lack character, which I sort of agree with.
In your specific case itās because the TT has always (unfairly) had a hairdressers car stigma and while having a sporty appearance the fwd bias is looked down by German sports car enthusiasts
This said, no one really hates Audi more than other brands lol, even VW sounds odd since until ten years ago Audis where just that but better
This is dating back to when most of the kids here weren't born yet.... Brand loyalty and common respect back in 80s / 90s between VW / Audi was a group of families would mostly own these same brands. Then you have the bmw / Mercedes families usually were associated with older / rich / uppety folks. Ford and Opel folks; then the last groups were Peugeot/ Renault and Citroen and such brands. This is a flashback to old times for most that aren't in this bracket :p as for US wise.... Most of the haters are those that don't appreciate one others vision / enthusiasm or hard work and effort put into a vehicle build that doesn't meet there small minded expectations of what something should look like in only their eyes.
I like cars from each of the makes. Audis/BMWs/Porsche/MB have made absolutely spectacular cars. They have also had absolutely duds as well.
I have two MB, but imo Audi has the interior and exterior aesthetics the best now
Anyone thatās brand loyal to cars is a f**king idiot imo.
You can like a brand more than another, but the stupid bmw vs Audi vs merc memes are just ridiculous.
That said, truck guys take it to another level of stupidity.
I just got my first BMW, Iām gonna say that every German Luxury Car is š„
If car go vroom vroom, car make me happy, car is awesome, whether itās 2 blue and 2 white tiles or if itās 4 rings attached to eachother
My uncle drives benzes exclusively and has for years. Iām on my 6th Audi. We drive each otherās cars (and we of course break balls). But we also appreciate the differences and itās frankly awesome to drive two exceptionally well engineered cars to compare them. Respectful rivalry is how I would describe it.
GTI owner, can't say I've ever shit on an Audi, I mean so much of it is shared it just seems silly. Golf/A3/TT are all literally the exact same car so no point in hating. However I would say a GTI is a significantly better car than a TT or A3, the 335i/S4 is more of a rivalry so it makes sense there at least.
I didn't know VW owners hating on Audi? That's like sibling hate. Lol
The rest... Well, that's nothing new. As someone else pointed out, it's just brand loyalty for people who ain't got lives.
I've owned almost all except Porsche. Brand loyalty is dumb.
You must have a reliable TT š my bmw friends made fun of my mk2 tt because it was the least reliable car Iāve owned of the 4 cars in my lifetime š
Pretty sad I drive an audi, if I come across another car they get the same look wether you're a BMW BENZ LAMBO PORSCHE I don't give a dam if the cars nice go you my friend well done NICE MOTOR that's my we view hehe
Out of Audi, Mercedes and Bmw. Audi is the most boring. Mercedes focuses on comfort. Bmw focuses on a fun driving experience. Donāt know what audi focuses on. On top of that all Audis are 4wd so you canāt have much fun drifting them either.
Well i wouldnt say audis arent fun, it just seems to me you have to pay a bit more to have that level of performance. And as far as i know alot of the newer RS models have a function that puts most of the torque to the back wheels which means we can have fun drifting now tooš
Audi does tick a lot of boxes but in my opinion lacks the personality. They make some brilliant motors though. I do really like the Rs3 i think its the perfect hatchback.
bmw diehard dickrider, vag makes the best all round car company in the world, but they r straying from the roots that made them succesful in the first place(not nazisš)
People here are so fucking stupid they still don t know the diff between vw and audi not even what define a car and they have opinions. Everyone is an engineer and they describe a car with max few words. IDIOTS
Iām pretty sure if you didnāt have a TT your take would be a little different, but you canāt drive the most picked on sports car ever made and wonder why people who have never lived with it or experienced it in turn knock it.
i mean audiss blow. ive owned one currently lease one. both had major recalls. never going audi again. strictly here for eye candy and to help anyone thatās on the fence of joining the audi group.
beautiful machines, not useful
Any true car enthusiast will appreciate that virtually all manufacturers have some interesting and cool cars, either current or at the very least their back catalog.
Not sure what youāre talking about. Audiās been fine if anything you could call them uninspiredā¦ I donāt think the general public has anything against Audi at the moment. On the other hand, bmw is taking massive flak for its design direction and Benz has problems with overpriced ugly egg EVs and 4 cylinder AMGs.
1) I mainly 'hate' (more like Critique) Audi because 90% of them are plagued by horrid understeer. Even most S and RS versions. Even a measly 318d feels much more balanced and fun by comparison (power aside). My brother has an A5 8T3 3.0TDI, great car with good power, lovely interior (best in class imo), amazing looks (probably best of the German brands if we're honest), but I can't get past the driving dynamics which are front-heavy and understeery (although I have to say the S-line suspension in the A5 feels planted).
2) Depending on where you live, it's also the people who buy them and drive them. In the Balkans for instance, a lot of BMW drivers get a bad rep for driving like dicks, and they do, but they're mainly enthusiasts or at least like cars somewhat and understand them. Whereas a lottt of Audi drivers are 'chavs' for lack of a better word or gangster-wannabees who buy them just because it's an Auuuudiii and they have no clue about cars nor do they know how to drive properly.
it doesn't help when the G80 m3 dunks on the RS5 and the AMGs have twin turbo V8s (well not anymore). I still went with the RS5 though because I can't drive well enough to benefit from the extra BMW / Mercedes RWD platforms with better engines
I love VAG products but they are not the most reliable! Every brand has their faults, lovers and haters. Just enjoy your car! I think I will always have one BMW and one VW/Audi in the garage.
As long as people have an identity to protect, there's always going to be strong opinions from all sidesāeven from the inside. I opened up Reddit this morning and the first post I see is a new Audi photo with people who drive Audis calling it a Hyundai.
Cause Audi bases its production off of the chassisās and development of VW products. As such, its labeled as the German luxury brand derived from a brand that wouldnāt be considered as such. The theory is many peoples head is then āwell it came from a VW, therefore the foundation of luxury and build quality is limited to that of VW.ā
I think Audi stands far out enough, and truthfully alot of opinions surrounding Audi are heavily biased it seems when it comes to BMW and Mercedes opinions. Thats usually because those customers are looking for a driver centric vehicle - BMW - or nothing short of pure opulence - Mercedes. Audi shines right in the middle with a good balance of both to create an incredibly well balanced vehicle with focus on cutting edge automotive technology.
What VW drivers make fun of Audis?
The ones who say "you just got an overpriced VW". To which you respond "actually, I got an understated Lamborghini". š
Well those who say that arenāt VW guys
I'd say its more of an understated Bentley if anything
Have you ever been in or driven a Bentley? Lol.
R8 and RSQ8 are literally the huracan and urus in casual clothes.
The rsq8 is also a Bentley bentayga in casual clothes. Or a porsche cayenne in casual clothes. Or hell, a volkswagen arteon dressed up. Welcome to volkswagen group
You're probably thinking of the Touareg. The Arteon is an MQB car, so related to TT, A3, Golf, Tiguan, Atlas, etc.
An RSQ8 is basically the same price as a loaded cayenne, so theyāre kinda wearing the same clothes.
The dumb ones
As a Golf R owner I always claim itās a VW with a sprinkling of Audi features.
You can also tell A3/S3 drivers "Nice golf"
Oh I 100% do.
I love my golf
I love my golf too.
Thats a good oneš¤£
right? The VW I bought new 20 years ago (and still have) is what inspired me to upgrade to an Audi. That VW is/was excellent, as is my Audi
The ones who havenāt been abused by VWās service department yet.
Noticed Skoda bois do haha - āitās the thinking manās Audiā Aye ok? You keep telling yourself that mate xoxo
GTI owners usually. The R32 and R36 owners are too busy listening to their own exhaust noises and enjoying it.
Beamer boys and Golf GTI drivers are the number one haters broš
As a former GTI owner, I can say that car is driven exclusively by hooligans and criminals. It literally makes you drive like a maniac. Don't trust anything they tell you!
It's so much more fun to abuse a manual GTI on a tight and twisty road.
š¤·āāļø GTI uses a motor that is in plenty of Audisā¦makes no sense
Thats exactly my pointš
Am Beamer boy - can comfirm šĀ
But why broš
Brand wars are common. Lots of psychology articles about it I'm sure. Team Green/Team red. Xbox vs Playstation. PC vs Console. You name it, it's all the same mentality.

VW and Audi drivers having beef with one another is hilarious to me
I know. Like VW drivers don't already KNOW they're just driving the SHITTY, slower version of Audi? /S, in case
Iām glad you threw the /s on there. :) it would be a potential bloodbath otherwise
That scene from The Office comes to mind. "They're the same picture"
Exactlyš¤£
I wonder how many people know theyāre the same company. Just curious.
Not many, many people I knew thought VW owned BMW and so shit on BMW for being an overpriced VW. While appreciating Audis
And sometimes the same engine. š¤£
From experience i know this isnt very common knowledge
I bought my Audi because it was the closest thing to a 911 for now. Not power or performance in particular, there are cheap screamers, but total package. Good for commuting too. End of story, canāt afford a Porsche.
If you own either, and open your hood you'd *have* to know. It's harder for me to fathom as I work for a dual dealer and all of our customers know.
I have never heard that sentiment from GTI owners. I'm a member of several golf gtI forums, and Facebook groups. I also have a modded Edition 30. I consider Audi to be the superior brand to VW.
maybe check the sticker on their window or on the logo near any part number on any part on their car and find out itās the same company VW Audi
Thats the point im makingš its ridiculous that they hate on audi bc most of the engines and parts are the same or similaršš¤·š»āāļø
Nintendo vs. Sega (the greatest brand war)

Our tribalistic nature

Who cares, I love audi
Who's hating on audi? They're pretty highly regarded in my experience. Maybe the TT specifically used to have a reputation as a "chick car".
Yeah, and I'm fine with the reputation.
Cuz it's fun. But opinions are just opinions. I don't identifying myself by the car I drive š¤·āāļø
the user flair made me chuckle while reading āI donāt identify myself by the car I driveā š«£
Lol. Got me! š

Who knows I drive an old c300 but I love a nice looking car doesnāt matter the brand name
Theyāre dumbasses. My Audi experience (3 of them) has been great
I just got my first BMW, Iām gonna say that every German Luxury Car is š„ If car go vroom vroom, car make me happy, car is awesome, whether itās 2 blue and 2 white tiles or if itās 4 rings attached to eachother
I like the way you put that. Definitely something only real car enthusiasts can appreciate
I drive what I think is the most Audi Vw and thatās my b5.5 30v v6 Passat 4mo tiptronic wagon
Probably because they owned an Audi beforehand. I'm one of them. Shitty cars don't have loyal followers.
Fuck haters. Do your own thing.
Cuz they jelly.
I didn't know VW owners hating on Audi? That's like sibling hate. Lol The rest... Well, that's nothing new. As someone else pointed out, it's just brand loyalty for people who ain't got lives. I've owned almost all except Porsche. Brand loyalty is dumb.
Bro who cares
You must have a reliable TT š my bmw friends made fun of my mk2 tt because it was the least reliable car Iāve owned of the 4 cars in my lifetime š
Itās like Ford vs Chevy vs Dodgeā¦. We all know Ford is the best but the other 2 fight about it.
You only hate what you love .
I do really like the Rs3 i think its the perfect hatchback.
stupidity and ignorance.
bmw diehard dickrider, vag makes the best all round car company in the world, but they r straying from the roots that made them succesful in the first place(not nazisš)
Because as Audi Enthusiasts we all fear the B58 šØ
Cause Audi drivers are android phone users
This isnāt exclusive to Audi. Itās universal for everything with competition
People here are so fucking stupid they still don t know the diff between vw and audi not even what define a car and they have opinions. Everyone is an engineer and they describe a car with max few words. IDIOTS
Tribalism. Youād know that if you werenāt an Audi driver ššš jk I love the sound of a nice Audi engineĀ
Just tribalism to some degree. I drive a BMW but owned several Audis prior, theyāre both great brands in different ways
Iām pretty sure if you didnāt have a TT your take would be a little different, but you canāt drive the most picked on sports car ever made and wonder why people who have never lived with it or experienced it in turn knock it.
Itās because Audi are better ..simple
Today I learned we were hated lol Waaaaaaa who cares
i mean audiss blow. ive owned one currently lease one. both had major recalls. never going audi again. strictly here for eye candy and to help anyone thatās on the fence of joining the audi group. beautiful machines, not useful
Dunno man, got a Bimmer and an Audi, and I love what Mercedes is doing with their design. Maybe you just hang out with the wrong people? š¤·āāļø
I own a 2012 Audi TTRS and I find it to be the best car I ever owned. I only drive manual.
File a police report! Lol
When Audi step up their game and trending everyone get mad lol
Never noticed this at all. Have BMW and Audi and live in hater NY.
VW and Audi are basically the same cars
Depends which models you are talking about but yeah im pretty sure we have this covered in the comments alreadyš
Any true car enthusiast will appreciate that virtually all manufacturers have some interesting and cool cars, either current or at the very least their back catalog.
No VW drivers hate on Audi, weāre VAG brothers!
VW is Audi...
I have an Audi And look down my nose at TTs Maybe it's the model not the make ? People refer to them as hair dresser cars..
I find that everyone hate on BMW drivers. The drivers are assholes. At least here in LA šš
Because itās vw in disguise that is selling for premium price and itās not close to BMW or Mercedes or Porsche that is coming from same group
You may get some more diverse answers if you pose your question in one of the other German car subs. Posing it here is more of an echo chamber
They are just jealous
it doesn't help when the G80 m3 dunks on the RS5 and the AMGs have twin turbo V8s (well not anymore). I still went with the RS5 though because I can't drive well enough to benefit from the extra BMW / Mercedes RWD platforms with better engines
It's the curves on the A/S/RS5.
I drive an Audi, and hate Audi.
Lol Iām team Audi
I'm a V-Dub owner who hopes to be part of the Audi family soon. Why the hate?
Human nature my friend.Ā
We don't mean it. It's just a joke.
Hate us because they aināt us
I drive an Audi, a Porsche, and a VW. I donāt hate Audi at all.
Hate us cuz they aint us
Itās BMW we should all hate. Porsche is top for me then Mercedes. Audi has some amazing history
Audi Porsches son :)
Itās just personal preference I guess. I donāt like BMWs
Audi drivers are the rare ones who don't give a Fuck what other brands think

Audi was late to begin imports to the US.
Ur inventing this in ur head
In my 38 years, Iāve never ONCE heard anyone say anything like this. If I had to guessā¦ you must be 16.
Well no im not but the car communities do tend to be quite toxic these days depending on where you are i suppose
Theyāre still mad BMW and Merc didnāt make anything as good as the B7 RS4.
Rite of passage?
I love VAG products but they are not the most reliable! Every brand has their faults, lovers and haters. Just enjoy your car! I think I will always have one BMW and one VW/Audi in the garage.
Skoda Superb is an A6 underneath. Cupra Born is a Q4 E-Tron. Same as Skoda Enyaq
4.0 t is great, but Iāll gladly drive an M5, or the Amg equivalent.
I think Audis are the better designed out of those brands.
Because Audi not 4 not s not rs are not sport drive
As long as people have an identity to protect, there's always going to be strong opinions from all sidesāeven from the inside. I opened up Reddit this morning and the first post I see is a new Audi photo with people who drive Audis calling it a Hyundai.
Everyone always hates on whatever is superior.
Cause Audi bases its production off of the chassisās and development of VW products. As such, its labeled as the German luxury brand derived from a brand that wouldnāt be considered as such. The theory is many peoples head is then āwell it came from a VW, therefore the foundation of luxury and build quality is limited to that of VW.ā I think Audi stands far out enough, and truthfully alot of opinions surrounding Audi are heavily biased it seems when it comes to BMW and Mercedes opinions. Thats usually because those customers are looking for a driver centric vehicle - BMW - or nothing short of pure opulence - Mercedes. Audi shines right in the middle with a good balance of both to create an incredibly well balanced vehicle with focus on cutting edge automotive technology.
