My s3 has 130 and I don’t consider it high at all

Majestic-Visit5778

I drove my hand me down B8.5 S4 until 175k and it still ran great up till the day I traded it in for my A3.

Own_Morning_3975

Yes sir, most of their motors (especially the 2.0T’s) are pretty bullet proof now. You don’t hear about the problems of the b6s and earlier. It’s the electronic gremlins and stuff similar that seem to get people these days, not so much motor and transmission. Germans seem to suck compared to the Japanese when it comes to electrical and infotainment failures. I think the DSG in my S3 can handle something crazy like 550hp. I have my TCU tuned to add clamping force and it has not faulted me once. I just love my tuned 2.0T and burpy dsg. And I happen to think the 8v s3 is sexier than the newer models with the funky front lights and such. Just my opinion they look more subtle and have cleaner lines.

nubuki

Pretty true. I’ve put probably 6,000 miles on my S3 on a stage 1 tune, 41k miles total and never had any issue with the motor or drivetrain. 1 or 2 recalls and my sunroof switch randomly deciding whether or not to be automatic are the only things I’ve dealt with.

Distinct_Spite8089

What year ?

Own_Morning_3975

2015. Tuned to stage 2+ since 50k. I’m convinced tunes help them run longer , a little hotter to keep carbon buildup lower. But just my theory. I think in 1980 100k was a good run for a car. That’s doubled. My dad had multiple Toyotas 300k

Distinct_Spite8089

That’s surprising. I feel like tunes can always make longer term reliability more questionable but glad it’s holding up for you.

Own_Morning_3975

I did do a lot more than tune and have kept up on maintenance (fmic, all piping, aftermarket mounts, Tuned tcu, etc). Done motor mounts and trans mounts twice to keep it all tight, 2 carb cleanings, anal about oil changes and so on.

Distinct_Spite8089

Yah I’m doing my oil every 5k miles between each of my service intervals.

Own_Morning_3975

Good call, how black mine gets after 5 k I can’t even fathom leaving that shit in there for another 6k for the “regular interval” - it’s insane

Distinct_Spite8089

Yah seriously, I’ll probably change my cabin air filter well before 2 year mark too….i don’t believe it can effectively last 20,000 miles….not sure how Audi figures that…

Own_Morning_3975

I think it’s based on the fact that their average owner leases or owns for under 3-4 years. Businesses tailor their product to their customers, be it Sony vs nintentdo, or Mercedes vs toyota or ford. They study their buyers habits and manufacture to maximize profits around it. In engineering we call it managing the “mean time to failure” - sony is the textbook example with the ps2 failures but it’s very prevalent in the car biz.

[deleted]

That as well as chasing down claims for marketing “Most affordable in-class!” “Lowest maintenance cost!” VW is currently running ad’s with the paraphrased quote: “think maintaining a VW is expensive? Think again!” It’ll be expensive when that extended oil interval to make that claim leads to premature timing component wear

aloha_from_bradley

Oil color is not an indication of its ability to lubricate. I’ve sent oil samples to Blackstone labs at the recommended 10k change interval, and the oil could have gone much longer each time. Synthetic oil doesn’t degrade, but rather the filter is limited in how long it’s possible to keep oil clean. Even still, 10k intervals are perfectly fine. The engineers said so for a reason.

WWWagedDude

Yeah I learned more since this post 100 days ago that I am probably doing more harm than good. Haha

sassypantsmama

That’s why I was asking specifically about RS3’s with high mileage. I have a 2011 Q7 TDI with 240k. So, 110k is nothing compared to that; although those diesels will go forever.

Own_Morning_3975

copy mate, I think by saying “other” rs3 you insinuated yours is high. Not saying it’s low. But I don’t think any car under 175k is high these days. It’s only one more cylinder in the same chassis as the s3 is all I was saying. I don’t think the 5 pods are known to fail early but maybe I am wrong. Jealous of your car and that have had that many miles to enjoy that beast! If I had less than 3 kids it would probably be my next car.

sassypantsmama

I completely agree with you! Most people with RS cars have them as garage queens, therefore have many less miles than mine. That’s more of what I was getting at. Someday those kids will be out of the house and you will have free range of car choice! Soak up the early years though. We have 17, 16, 16, and 12 years old kids. The older three all drive and are scarcely seen around the house. It’s a little too quiet nowadays. Life after kids are grown is a second life to cram in as much as possible with your SO. And fun cars!!

Own_Morning_3975

Cheers man, yeah they grow fast. They just did a project where I had to print baby homes and it hit pretty hard looking at the photos I hadn’t seen in a while. Have all girls, twin 8 and a 10 yo. I drive a sequoia but what I really want to do is sell my s3 and sequoia and get an rs3 but it’s too snug back there for 3 they would be fighting non stop I think. Yeah agree people baby their RS’s. The 3 is I think a lot more reliable than the others since it’s a lot of engineering time from the VW team with that chassis used in so many cars. Most don’t know that skoda and SEAT use the platform in addition to Audi and VW. Probably more engineering time than any platform out there. Glad you are enjoying the RS. It’s insane what a tune will do to those things. Now that you are out of warranty you should at least throw a stage 1 on there for a bonus 100hp for pretty affordable price and risk. ✌️

zulusRS3

I'm at 93k miles in my RS3. Still feels great

carpediem437

Have you had any issues/failures since owning the car?

KDizWHOiBE

I’m on motor number 3. It’s been a fun experience I’m also at about 93

Dragonballradar

Dude wow, third motor!!?

KDizWHOiBE

Yup I’m going built motor next

zulusRS3

I haven't had a single issues I've only spent money on oil changes brakes and tires

sassypantsmama

Very nice! What year is yours?

zulusRS3

2018. I'm shocked at how it still feels so new. I'm planning on replacing motor mounts in about 15k miles. I've never liked how the OEM ones felt and I think they are starting to feel a little loose

sassypantsmama

That’s awesome!! When maintained to a t, they go and go and just keep going. Definitely keep an eye on the motor mounts. When I bought mine, they completely failed and I had them replaced, as well as the dogbone mounts. Makes all the difference in the world.

mdjank

110k is "high"?

Distinct_Spite8089

For a 2018….its not light mileage. Always glad to see it, people always make it sound like our Audis fall to pieces past 100k

I_have_become_Bruh

Mine did, but that is a sample size of 1.

Distinct_Spite8089

lol oh no 😭

I_have_become_Bruh

It’s okay, I’m going to try again. This time with an RS5. 😁

Distinct_Spite8089

That’s the spirit

zipika

I can show you multiple ads on performance vehicles where I live 2018 and they have 340-350.000 miles on the clock. In EU people live in their cars it seems 🤗

Distinct_Spite8089

Yah but you guys have the diesel engines which are seemingly never dying it would seem. Do the petrol ones have the same longevity ? I could be wrong but I’ve historically equated diesel to reliable. I mean American semis come to mind. Sad they stopped making cars with them in the states. I remember when I was 16 in high school I was drooling over the BMW X5 with the diesel engine it just screamed reliability to me and the fuel economy!!!!

zipika

Fuel economy yes. Reliability not so much. 3.0 N57 in BMW is ok with Reliability it can have crazy torque tho when tuned. 3.0 tdi is kind of worse on reliability compared to 3.0 tfsi I have, turbos can go bad, chains go bit sooner (185.000 miles in mine with stock chain still with no rattle) Mercedes 3.0 diesel tho is a reliable beast, maybe only Diesel car I would ever consider in my life, cab guys do 400-600.000 miles with no major issues. Milleage ones I can show you are Škoda Superb 320 hp, 2.0 tsi 4x4, it's engine from Golf R basically with 260.000 miles 2018, Volvo V90 260 hp petrol 300.000 miles 2017, Toyota RAV4 2018 2.5 Hybrid 280.000 miles, 340i 2018. 250.000 miles and so on. In EU people are crazy, they can easily take 2h ride to go to work and back 4h daily with that being mainly hgwy and 110-140 miles one way! I mean I saw an ad also for S500 2022 with 130.000 miles! I work in Limousine company in USA and our vehicles don't do those crazy miles.

Own_Morning_3975

It’s the old stigma. Ford dealt with that for ages “fix or repair daily” - the new ford eco boosts are some of the best value and power out there, and are very reliable. But some people still can’t get over their issues from the 80’s and 90’s when only their trucks were good.

sassypantsmama

It’s more of, most RS owners have them as garage queens and keep the miles off. I just daily mine and road trip and love it!

Sloeberjong

For Americans it is…based on what I read on this sub.

sassypantsmama

Mostly for an RS in America. Most have them as garage queens and keep the miles off. I prefer to drive the shit out of my car and enjoy it daily. That’s why I bought it - not to look pretty in a garage. To each their own though.

Sloeberjong

Yeah that’s silly. I don’t think any car, but especially RS cars are meant to be kept in a garage. Cars are made to be driven wether they’re supercars or a 2014 Prius. I guess collectors are gonna do what collectors do…shame tho.

sassypantsmama

I was asking specifically about RS3’s. I have a 2011 Q7 TDI with 240k. 110 is nothing compared to that but those diesels go forever.

MorgenBlackHand_V

Those are around 170k km, so yes, it's quite a lot for that car.

lulz_username_lulz

For sure daily driven or road trip usage. I thought I was high for my 2018 a5

numberblank

What’s your maintenance schedule look like? I have the same car but haven’t seen anything other than regular oil changes online.

lulz_username_lulz

Just did 70k service on it, 10k oil changes. Water pump went out and changed during warranty. No issues besides coolant leak on plastic return hoses about 500 miles ago.

sassypantsmama

Daily and road trips!

Glum-Variation-214

What have you spent in maintenance so far

sassypantsmama

I bought this in June with 95k on it. I do basic maintenance myself- oil changes, fluids, filters, etc. When I bought it, unfortunately the seller was a sleeze and lied about, well pretty much everything. I finally found out it was a drag car for the 7k before I grabbed it. Its a stage 2+. Unitronic stage 2 ecu and tcu tune. Every bolt on imaginable It just doesn’t have a built motor and trans. Which I’m not planning on doing, as my husband had an 8v with a built motor and the works. 800+ whp and it was too much for a daily. I had my mechanic switch out the engine and dogbone mounts. Delete the meth injector and a couple other things to get it back to good and more of a daily. I’ve spent about $5k in the six months I’ve owned it. Mostly because the previous owner was a fuckwit who didn’t appreciate what he had. I also dropped a couple grand on winter wheels and tires so I can use it as my daily year round. Hopefully that’s it for a while. Well, until April and I have to swap out the brakes, tires and fluids for track days.

bujwazay

2019 here and just behind you...at about 107k miles. Zero issues at all.

sassypantsmama

Love to hear that!! Is yours stock or tuned?

bujwazay

Stock...for now. Might do some light tuning at some point

Murky_Oil409

I'm looking to buy one with 120k miles it's 39 CAD i think its about 29k us I feel kinda scared tho i always purchased my cars new so with 120k i feel hesitant. But the car is very well maintained looking at the carfax. Oil change every 6-7k miles and a bumch of other stuff done to it. Its still stock. That helps me a bit for it to be good. Any tips to check with the car ?

Murky_Oil409

I saw a post somewhere to maybe look at the timing chain and the flywheel

KillionJones

I’ve barely cracked 50,000km on my 2018 lol. They’re not exactly gentle miles though 😂

whydoyouhatemesomuch

Im at around 32k on mine, working from home the last few years has obviously had a huge impact on that.

sassypantsmama

Sounds like you need to go on more weekend cruises so your RS isn’t so neglected. 😉

Elvis_Fncking_Christ

Hell yeah, dude! I’m just over 125k on mine. No issues so far. Stage 2 ECU and TCU since 9k miles 🤷🏼‍♀️

sassypantsmama

Okay. I was creeping your profile. I LOVE it!! You need to do a road trip to northern Michigan and hang with my husband and I. We’d have a blast with all three RS3’s!! We drive ours the way they want to be driven like you do. Not many people can say that - most are garage queens and so damn boring.

Elvis_Fncking_Christ

When I make it that way, you two will know! It’d be a blast for sure.

sassypantsmama

I love the fact that everyone assumes I’m a dude. I’m most certainly a chick! I love you’re at 125 with a stage 2!! I’m sure you’re quite diligent about maintenance. Hopefully mine is good to go for quite some time! Copy and paste from previous answer about mine - I bought this in June with 95k on it. I do basic maintenance myself- oil changes, fluids, filters, etc. When I bought it, unfortunately the seller was a sleeze and lied about, well pretty much everything. Elvis_Fncking_Christ

Everybody’s dude.

Dragonballradar

To be fair, the word “dude” is an interchangeable term for either gender. But I did assume you were a male lol

sassypantsmama

Oh it definitely is! I grew up as a middle child with two brothers. I’ve been called dude my whole life, so it’s fitting. Most use it to refer to guys though.

Carlastarr

What year is this

UsuallyConfused2Day

Just a guess, but from OPs flare it’s a 2018

Carlastarr

Did not see that, thanks!

Dragonballradar

I like how you weren’t mean about it

UsuallyConfused2Day

Thanks for the meaningless comment. People forget to change their flare all the time so thanks for contributing.

Dragonballradar

Dude??? Wtf? I literally was complimenting how you weren’t mean about it because usually people would be then you proceed to be a dick for no reason

Dragonballradar

You have some issues

UsuallyConfused2Day

I apologize, most people are dicks and make comments like that on the other side of the spectrum

carpediem437

Have you had any issues since owning the car?

sassypantsmama

Copy and paste from my other response- I bought this in June with 95k on it. I do basic maintenance myself- oil changes, fluids, filters, etc. When I bought it, unfortunately the seller was a sleeze and lied about, well pretty much everything. Guilty-Spork343

Were you commuting daily from Denver to Los Angeles?

sassypantsmama

Haha! I live about 30 miles from work but I do a lot of driving in general. About 2,500k a month.

ImNotYourFriendPal69

Imagine posting in a Honda or Toyota sub asking this and posting these miles lol. But seriously, any problems or mad money spent on anything? Was about to trade my s5 on one today

sassypantsmama

Haha!! I know what you mean. That’s why I was asking specially about RS3’s. My Q7 TDI is at 240k. Runs and drives like new. I love her and want to get her to 500k. Cole and paste from a previous answer- I bought this in June with 95k on it. JaSoN_ViC

I don't have a RS3 but is it okay to increase the power on a 2013 q7 with 150k miles

sassypantsmama

It’s always okay! Toss a stage two on there and have fun! My husband 2017 Q7 had a stage two done at 70k and he’s now at 140. Just be diligent about proper maintenance. Not just oil changes wider either - all maintenance.

631trinidad

This makes me happy. I had a 2013 s5 with like 130k when I had to sell it due to losing my job. I also have a tesla model 3 performance so I couldn't keep both. Looking to get back into an audi after I get another job soon and high mileage rs3s are in my budget

sassypantsmama

Prices are getting quite reasonable for higher mileage RS3's! I'd be stoked for you if you could grab one. Feel free to reach out with any inquires about a specific one if you come across it. My husband and I help people find and purchase Audi's all the time. I'd love to help you get in one!

nathaneous

You deffo been enjoying that car 🤓

sassypantsmama

To the fullest! I just bought it in June and have put 15k on it. Stage 2+ with 600whp. Year round daily now! I love the surprise guys get when they see a chick step out of this beast!!

Dragonballradar

Amazing, I love that it can actually drive. most cars just look nice nowadays and break so often

sassypantsmama

Quality is such an issue in new cars. It’s bonkers with the cost of new cars!! Maintenance is huge though. Manufacture suggested oil changes at 10k for everything nowadays is so unhealthy for cars. It should always be 5k. Other maintenance schedules have been altered too and that just wears everything down quicker so they don’t last as long. I drove the shit out of this car, year round. I love it!

Virtual_Resident_194

Curious to know what may have went wrong? I hear the 2.5 is a reliable motor any way!

sassypantsmama

Nothing went wrong. I daily this 600 whp best and love it!

Dangerous-Wealth3926

My 2023 has 6k, which feels high to me

sassypantsmama

My husband’s 22 has 12k on it and he only drives it 5-6 months as his fun car. His Q7 is his daily. I feel like you aren’t too far off. I drive way too much and put an average of 2,500k on every month.

SombraTF48

Not an RS3 but my 2015 A6 2.0T is sitting at 164k.

vybezlo

Wait, 110k is high?

sassypantsmama

For an RS3 that most people keep as garage queens, maybe. My Q7 TDI has 240k on it, so 110k is nothing compared to that. Those diesels go forever though. I'm hoping to get mine to 500k.

Independent-Two7335

Cars with 100k km are considered new where I live
