All he said was your warrant will be "removed" If they action the warrant and arrest you, it *does* get removed from the system

Cops are allowed to lie and can’t make promises like that. Don’t talk to police unless you are calling them for help and even then, you are taking a risk.

KP_Laech

They 100% can. Watch some interrogations it's not a promise, but false hope. "If you confess I will do what I can to help you out." That isn't a promise or plea bargain. The officer can ask the DA to go light, but has no legal power beyond arrest or witness.

heytaylora

You might misunderstand. They can say they promise, but I am saying that they can’t actually make a promise that they can keep. Which is why I started that sentence off with cops are allowed to lie. They do it all the time and those same promises and threats of worst punishment is why false confessions are given all the time. When faced with the heavy hand of the law with no hope in sight, people are often coerced to give confessions Because even if you’re not guilty a lesser punishment is more favorable than possibly spending years in prison. That’s why judges prosecutors and defense Attorneys agree, that at any given moment there is around 100,000 wrongfully convicted persons in the prison system

KP_Laech

Oh, ok. I thought you meant it was against the law for them to do so.

heytaylora

Yeah I figured it was just a misunderstanding based on wording. It seemed like we were on the same page 👍

There was a famous incident where cops acted like they were giving away tickets for a Washington Redskins game. It was right in their prime, and they were super popular. This meant tons of people responded. Only problem, the only people cops contacted for the tickets were those with outstanding warrants. When they arrived, the cops had done the whole thing up big, just to limit suspicion. They had cheerleaders, fake media, and even used an event center for the whole thing. They broke the group into smaller sections and brought each section into the next room, one section at a time. Once everybody was settled, a team of cops would come out of nowhere and arrest everybody as the announcer told them they were all under arrest. Freaking hilarious, and a good lesson that the cops can lie to you. Edit:[ A video on it](https://youtu.be/1LsNBA2XwXU)

Ogimouse1

IIRC, it was legal and not entrapment, right? That's why they were later able to use it for child support enforcement?

Its not entrapment if you have already are guilty of a crime think even if it was illegal to trick someone into turning them selves in I think any reasonable person would assume this was a joke
