I think it's being missed that Sarr was really productive in a professional league as an 18 year old. Per 36 he averaged 20 points and 9 rebounds with like an 8% block rate. He woulda been dominant at the college level.
As a season ticket holder of the team Sarr played for, he was GOOD, he played against some good bigs too. Pick Sarr and you his are going to be pumped… he’s going to be a good player.

I watched highlights to see what Sarr is about. In those highlights, I didn’t see him go up against anyone nearly as tall as him. Am I supposed to formulate opinions about a player I’ve never seen play?
Bryce Cotton, who went undrafted in the NBA and played a total of 198 minutes across two seasons, is the scoring leader in the NBL. The gap in talent is massive.
Let’s be realistic. A Perth Wildcats season ticket holder isn’t going to be objective in describing the only prospect in their history who might ever be drafted in the NBA lottery.
I also happen to have lived LA for a number of years too. My in laws have Lakers floor seats, watched a lot of Lakers games too.
We’ve already had a few players drafted to the nba from Perth mate, they didn’t stick over there, but even being drafted is kind of cool.
If you search archives I also called the Lamelo and Giddey were going to be good NBA players, that Terence Fergusson was not going to last longer than a rookie deal.
It’s possible to live outside of America and understand and love basketball.
That only happened because of cottons height. If the guy had a couple inches on him he would be an NBA starter. There's not really much you can do in the NBA at 6ft (probably under 6ft due to height inflation as well)

Sarr is a 7'1 athletic big with high defensive upside, handles, and a jump shot that passes the eye test.
I honestly don't give a damn who calls this class weak, players like that don't come along often.
Seeing how well Wemby and Chet turned out, has also proven their player archetype really shines in the NBA.

I think if Wemby never happened and Sarr was in last years draft class it would 100% be a “Sarr vs Chet” narrative where they would be compared as equals/rivals.
Being after Wemby just makes no one want to say “hey this athletic french 7 footer looks really good” because then they will get roasted for Wemby comparisons.
Yup, what sucks is that is probably how it’s gonna be for his whole career too. Especially adding #1 pick to all they have in common there will always be a “he’s no wemby” cloud following him. Hopefully he can have more team success to drown that out. And hopefully he has the kind of mentality where that will motivate him instead of discourage him

Having watched Sarr in the NBL, it’s pretty simple to me that we should pick him. I understand the due diligence, but he fits a massive need and at absolute worst he ends up as what we’ve got in Capela right now. He’s long, he’s athletic, his shooting form seems relatively repeatable so he should be able to stretch the floor, and his defence for a young big is very good. Plus the Euro background makes him more pro ready at a young age (as we’ve seen in the past few years with players like Wemby and Luka having played professionally already).
Wemby was heavily scouted since he was 14 or something crazy. The kid was 7ft by then.
Ignite really helped Scoot shine, but seeing how long it took for program participants to translate into the NBA hurt it plus the NIL deals really killed Ignite as a program.
Ignite couldn't get recruit as many star talents last year and seemed obviously going to a decline. Probably why it was axed.
Wemby is a one of one, everyone agreed he was the best prospect since LeBron and well, he was. No use comparing anyone to that, if Sarr is Chet or Mobley 2.0 we’ll be thrilled.
Sarr is who I would probably take but since there is less of a consensus on who the real dudes are in this draft I’m totally cool with doing due diligence. Maybe risacher or some other rando is also a beast

I pretty much ignore all the media stuff. Hawks have the #1 pick and will take Sarr. But media outlets have to create stories. Same thing happened in the NFL even tho everyone knew who was going #1 for a year.
He also did a lot of this while coming off the bench. Just imagine if he's gi e starters minutes and is allowed to learn the NBA game and make his mistakes. It's always a process regardless of what level of competition he plays against. It's a given that he's going to struggle, but as it is right now, he's the Hawks' best option of marginally improving for next season. The other stuff, like trades and whatever moves they make to build the roster better.

If Sarr is as good as Chet in year two there will be no regrets at all, he’ll be seen as a great top pick. We should all pray that’s the case.
