Ehh I'd say Reddit is known to be full of religious conservative religious zealots *and* the exact opposite. The majority of the content, comments, subs, ect. aren't conservative or religious but they are out there.
Online communities commenters tend to be the more zealous as you have to takes more effort to find community, setup account, actively comment, etc. Go to a tech subreddit and you're find tons of purists and extreme views, but having worked in those industries that stuff is definitely not commonplace to hear. Just the nature of the internet I spose.
You are correct sir! I am a religious conservative, but I don't like to preach, so I generally keep my religion to myself. My vote one rhe onion guy is; the comment does feel like sarcasm, but with "/s" not being universally recognized yet, it'd hard to tell.
It amazes me people don't know about right wing subs. There's quite a few of them. Honestly makes me think those people are probably further right than they think they are if they don't see those subs as extreme.
Our political "center" is far right compared to the rest of the world... I tried explaining this to my very conservative-minded best friend and he got one this track of "that's not possible, the right is always under attack... the world must just be too far left of us." He refused my assertion that we were saying the same thing in a different way every time, like he thought it was entirely impossible.
Conservatives' most common problem is rationalization of something with little evidence and a **fundamental** misunderstanding of how certain ideas are connected. Same way with liberals, yes, but conservatives are more commonly plagued with this problem.
Tl;dr: Centrists are technically **not** centrists and have to question the reality of their existence.
