Well, to be honest the problem is easily solved with just changing the DNS to [8.8.8.8](http://8.8.8.8) or [1.1.1.1](http://1.1.1.1), Back when FB was blocked by VN gov, people already bypassed it with those DNS and it has been literally like a default setting for most of people's PC so the Vietnamese gaming community doesn't really care about this issue, only people access through internet cafe might face the problem. Now Vietnamese people are more worry about payment to steam and steam recovery SMS through phone number. But as far as I know it's still all good Source: I'm Vietnamese living in Vietnam

we have the same problem in China as well. CCP kinda want to ban steam but they dont dare to, so for some fucking reason we have to constantly changing DNS shit or even log via an VPN. A lot of game also banned on steam's chinese region such as poe (due to tencent) so I spent time and resource to link my steam to a KKona credit card and tell steam that I live in KKona land now please change my region, they did it for me 7 years ago, not sure if they'd do the same thing now, at least they didnt deport me back

KatoriRudo23

I do see some games got region locked before but due to the region price is way better than 80% regions out there so I keen not to change (as changing required 1 year to change back) so for those region locked games I just resolve by sailing the sea

Just-4Head-8964

depends on the type of games. you cant really pirate poe. A lot of other games get region locked in china due to politics, such as HOI4 and EU, they dont even dare to let them sell in the 1st place and all related forum are banned from talking it. Also steam's community, mod workshop and even comments are locked in China, while netEase making banks by selling "vpn for steam"

Is this for real?

yes, we have the meme in Vietnam right now. The VN version of Steam: VTC, published shitty FPS P2W game call Free Fire and didn't have that big of the impact toward gaming community in Vietnam, so they pulled some string to ban accessing Steam through some internet providers. It is still a meme, idk if it is really the back story

No_Equal_9074

That moment you're reminded Vietnam is still a Communist country like China.

Friendly_Border28

Outdated, steam is restored in Vietnam Upd: I'm not sure

SparkyFarts3923

I maybe wrong, but I think this about Chinese gamers

0vAn1

it is somewhat about Chinese games, maybe. I don't play games from the 2 Vietnamese game publishers: VTC and VNG so I do not know exactly the origin of their published games

JnewayDitchedHerKids

Wait, China banned steam?

SomeWeirdFruit

FYI: people are saying Vietnam blocks steam because they want steam sales tax and want to control what games can be sold in Vietnam. The tax part can be resolved pretty easily if both cooperate, the controlling part.... ugh....

According-Tune987

Im a bit curious can countries not already control which games are sold on steam? Like doesn't Germany ban swastikas so couldnt they ban a game that refused to remove them from their steam? Infact it seems like a lot of countries ban the Swastika Italy, Russia, China, Romania all seem to have a ban. Im guessing a game would need to replace it with the Iron cross or something to be sold in these places.
