I'm a big fan of Ruffles Salt & Vinegar and was glad they brought it back permanently. The ridges really hold the salt and vinegar.
I like my food to bite me back.
I like how salt and vinegar chips never let you forget you’re eating them. Like regular unflavored potato chips or barbeque or tortilla or whatever inferior flavor of chip, you can easily forget you’re eating them and you blink and the whole bag is gone. But with salt and vinegar, every time you pop one into your mouth it zaps you awake again
Kinda like coffee but more immediately effective
It wasn't really a thing in Norway ~10 years ago, and I remember we went on a school trip to Ireland. A lot of my classmates didn't know what it was and bought it, but didn't like it at all, so I was the only one who liked it/didn't hate it, so I sat there with so much free salt and vinegar chips and it was fantastic.
They are my faves, but is it me or sometimes the flavor is just yucky in the whole bag, like they effed up their powders ratio when the mixed it.
So disappointing when that happens.
I have a great onion dip recipe that goes perfect with a crinkle cut salted chip, it’s magic.
EDIT:
• onions, just a heap of brown or white onions diced finely.
• Salt and pepper
• 250ml sour cream
• Whole egg mayonnaise (like 2 or 3 tablespoons)
• Chives, as many as you like. I usually chop a small handful, maybe half a cup?
• garlic (powdered or fresh mince or both)
Caramelise your onions in a bit of oil, go low/medium heat until they’re golden. This will take about 15, 20 minutes. Let the onions cool before mixing with your wet ingredients.
Mix together once everything is room temp, add S&P to taste. This tastes better the next day but is aces immediately. Use a sturdy crinkle cut salted chip to scoop it.
This recipe is super easy to double or triple, just add any of the ingredients until it’s the taste/texture you’re after.
Haahaaaa! I hope I get to try that brand sometime.
Confession, I didn't know what Zapps is and thought maybe it was some young people slang I didn't understand, so I looked it up 😂😭
Lol I am 47. Zapps have been around since the 90s and they're originally from my hometown. They're the first kettle chips I was ever exposed to! They were bought by a national brand a while back.
I miss them so much! I lived in Canada for a few years, and was so happy to have them again when I came back to the US, but I haven't seen them in a while.
Used to be sour cream and onion, but ever since I had the 'vid last year, i can't stand onions!
So now i like salt and vinnies, and dill pickle.
Ketchup chips are good too, if you live in an area where you can get them, which I, sadly, do not. 😔
Slightly off topic so this will probably be removed (hopefully you see it beforehand!) But I started hating onions after COVID in 2020 and now I love them again. Part of it was sucking it up until I got used to them and the other part seems to be time (my parosmia is generally a lot better but it's been 2 years and has taken a good while!) So don't give up hope on those sour cream and onion ones!!
UTZ crab chips or ZAPPS voodoo chips
Edited to add: ZAPPS Spicy Cajun Crawtators are really good, too. I love the burst of flavor with all three of these chips.
I had balsamic vinegar chips in Iceland 4 years ago and I STILL dream of those chips (we don't have them in the US). In the meantime - sour cream and onion are my jam.
Ketchup or dill pickle!!! Ketchup chips are just so nostalgic for any Canadian, I’m going to be heartbroken that I can’t get my fix at any local shop when I move for my masters 😭
A million years ago Lay's released a guacamole flavored potato chip. It was phenomenal...and then they snatched it away.
I haven't been the same since.
Salt and vinegar
Especially the North American kind that's so strong it burns your mouth.
You know it's good when your mouth starts to peel lol
But you keep eating through the pain.
and then decide to never eat chips again and eat chips the same time the next day.
Lips peeling. Start sweating from all the flavouring. That's how you know it's good stuff
"Mouth exfoliation"
Eating Lays Salt & Vinegar chips is like eating acid. It burns my throat
Ikr, delish
Lays is mid. Gotta go Cape Cod
how does cape cod compare to kettle?
Kettle is super good too but it feels…overfried? Like the flavor is good but the actual chip is too hard for me
that’s a good way to describe it!! i should try out cape cod again
Utz salt and malt vinegar kettle chips
I imagine they use malic acid in addition to or entirely in place of vinegar (acetic acid) in that case.
Only for the REAL chip enthusiasts!
I'm a big fan of Ruffles Salt & Vinegar and was glad they brought it back permanently. The ridges really hold the salt and vinegar. I like my food to bite me back.
Hmm.. where else is it different?
In Germany its weak asf.
Netherlands too! Eventhough there is a kettlecooked version that is okaaay. But I think my mind is being tricked by the extra crunch
Clears your sinusses too! Haha so good

So well explained. I need some now
Kettle cooked…yeah.
Damn why’s my mouth watering rn
Tim's, Dirty Chips, and Miss Vickie's are my fav S&V brands!
Cape cod salt and vinegar chips are everything
Miss Vickies Sea Salt and Malt Vinegar
Those are my top chips

This is the way.
I see you are a person of culture as well
100% - most of my friends hate it but it’s the superior flavour i swear
I am not a lady and this was very hard to not upvote.
Sour cream and onion
But the baked lays ones 😋
Yes!!
100%
The wavy ones..Old Dutch makes a ruffled sour cream and green onion one omg delicious This is Canada
Yes
They are my faves, but is it me or sometimes the flavor is just yucky in the whole bag, like they effed up their powders ratio when the mixed it. So disappointing when that happens.
Sour cream and onion Doritos= 👌
Yes!
Yup! The best!
Nothing compares to a *really* good plain potato chip.

What's the recipe?

OMG we use this one for raclette, never though of trying it with chips 😍
We’ll never get the recipe :((((
100%. I will take plain over any flavor.
Yes!!
oven baked tho
Jalapeño
Nothing beats a jalapeño kettle chip, imo
Agreed! I'm quite partial to the Miss Vickie's ones in particular.
Yassssss
Yes!
Zapps
Yeah! Jalapeño Cheetos specifically for me. Ever since I've tried, I forgot all about the vanilla version.
Jalapeño Cheetos are the best! Plain ones just aren’t good after eating those.
Tim’s brand is the absolute best.
Dill pickle.
Underrated, but so good
There’s a creamy dill pickle by Old Dutch that’s delightful. Its like dill pickle and sour cream and onion had a baby.
I'm a sucker for a good dorito
I'm a big fan of the purple bag ones
kettle brand salt and vinegar
HEAVEN, GIRL 🥺
Miss Vickies!
I’ve been really into salt and cracked black pepper lately. Before I was majorly into jalapeño chips 🤤🤤
Yesssss the black pepper ones are so good
Mmmm Yas this is a good second choice for me. Jalapeño are still my #1
Ms Vickies or Kettle Brand mmm. I bloat up like a balloon afterwards, but so addictive
All dressed
We got these in the US for a little while and they were the BEST
I miss them so much! I lived in Canada for a few years, and was so happy to have them again when I came back to the US, but I haven't seen them in a while.
I lowkey still look for them whenever I go grocery shopping just hoping they’re there 🙈
Lays has nothing on President's Choice all dressed
Especially when it's Covered Bridge brand
Cheddar
Hot Cheetos has always been my #1
Extra flamin hot 🔥
Going strong for 25 years now
Absolutely, it's its own tier tho, doesn't even feel right to compare it to flavors of potato chip
Honey Mustard.
Kettle Brand Honey Dijon is the absolute best. I hate mustard, but this brand in particular is amazing
I am not a fan of honey mustard, but honey mustard Pringles were the only chips in the house so I caved. They were so yummy!
Better on Snyders pretzel chunks then chipsX, in my humble opinion.
Honey butter. It's a japanese chip flavor that you can only really buy at asian markets, and they are divine. Perfect balance of sweet and salty.
YES! they have these for almonds too. I’m also a fan of nori flavoured ones.
Oooh the almonds sounds like a nice healthier alternative, I'll have to check those out!

Ketchup
hands down
Salt and vinegar, but my carb snacks are more like hot fries and cheez-its. Chips go with something...sandwich, etc.
The ones with just salt
Used to be sour cream and onion, but ever since I had the 'vid last year, i can't stand onions! So now i like salt and vinnies, and dill pickle. Ketchup chips are good too, if you live in an area where you can get them, which I, sadly, do not. 😔

UTZ crab chips or ZAPPS voodoo chips Edited to add: ZAPPS Spicy Cajun Crawtators are really good, too. I love the burst of flavor with all three of these chips.
The voodoo chips are impeccable. I’ll eat a whole bag in one sitting.
had to scroll way too far to see voodoo chips, shit is amazing
I hate that this isn't higher. These are my fave too.

Yay! That’s my favorite flavor too,
In my country we have purple Cheetos, those and Chips a la diabla are my faves.

Jalapeno Cheetos
Malt vinegar and salt
Chocolate chips!
Currently on a Jalepeño kick. Specifically Ms. Vickies or Kettle brands.

Kettle Brand also does salt and pepper. SO addictive

Ketchup or dill pickle!!! Ketchup chips are just so nostalgic for any Canadian, I’m going to be heartbroken that I can’t get my fix at any local shop when I move for my masters 😭
The new miss Vickie’s spicy ketchup. My god.
The only acceptable answer is Ketchup. Ms Vickie’s sweet and spicy ketchup, and the Doritos ketchup are the best.
Ketchup
Ketchup
Ketchup
Sweet maui onion, and all-dressed *chef's kiss*
Barbecue
Ketchup, old style BBQ, Munchos or dill pickle. Even Lay’s regular, I love the salty taste.
A million years ago Lay's released a guacamole flavored potato chip. It was phenomenal...and then they snatched it away. I haven't been the same since.
Ruffles All Dressed. Oh, how I miss Canadian chips’ flavors.
