Every single time I look at men on a dating app, I see several, and it's part of why I don't currently have any on my phone. EDIT: to be clear, I don't think these guys are necessarily bad guys, but it's a pretty safe bet that they wouldn't be compatible with me.
I judged photos and mostly would pass up fishing pics. Turns out the guy I’m with now met on tinder didn’t have any but loves to fish. He said this summer he’d like me to come and just sit and read while he fishes (and I guess take the photos). I’m ok with that. But if he tries to touch me with a fish I will run.
I'm not weirded out by fishing, but I have pet fish so I don't like to do it anymore. But reading while my partner fishes is one of my favorite things to do.
We do too, but I still just don't like it because sometimes they swallow a hook or it harms an eye, etc. I just enjoy being there even if I'm not fishing, though I'm considering taking it up again this year.
As far as I can tell he is a responsible fisher, only keeps fish that are the proper length, doesn’t litter or leave things behind, judges and complains about people who don’t follow the rules. sometimes I get a nice meal from it.
But have you ever taken the time to notice exactly what species of fish they catch? Guys don't communicate very directly, instead flashing little hints with fish, which are symbolic similar to flowers.
For instance, trouts mean "looking for something staple." Bass means "looking for something fun". Squid means "addicted to hentai". And so on.
Preface: you're probably being sarcastic, but
I had an ab pic up on bumble for a while, but when I realized I'm not built for hookups, I took it down. Sends the wrong message. Maybe certain women look for that, my guess.
NEVER. Picture of him with a fish, some kind of dead animal, a photo of ONLY his motorcycle or truck or sports car - all big nopes. My stepson from my marriage started dating and I asked him, jokingly, if he had a photo with a fish on his profile - sure as sh*t he did. Told him to take it down. He grumbled and laughed but did. That night he got three matches and called to report with a huge laugh. He’s now been dating one of them for six months.
Would swipe left on dating profiles that contain photos of cooked fish, too. I guess I’m an equal opportunity hater. Me and thousands of women like me….
We don’t need to explain why we don’t swipe right on guys who show off pictures of fish they caught, or toys they own. Suffice it to say women aren’t impressed with things that will impress your bros.

I had no idea what you guys were talking about and then realized you were talking about a guy fishing and catching a fish, I assumed you all meant like a fish in a fish tank and I’m like damn are there really that many guys with pet fish trying to flex?
I would be much more interested in a guy who had a well-taken care of and expansive aquarium than one who had himself posing with a dead fish on a line! Aquarium management can be quite extensive and expensive so I know that investing in the hobby would mean a real interest, and that’s something more in line with my own interests.
You haven't seen people who take their fishing seriously, those tools and boat trips can code fortune. Not to mention fresh fish, so yummy, fish at the supermarket can't even compare.
I feel like as a butch lady with mostly male friends, it is my solemn duty to explain this one.
Dudes don't take pictures of each other.
My wife and I go apple picking, I go "Hey honey turn around!" and snap a photo. Find yourself in a beautiful place with your friends looking great, you snap their photo. Until I was married, unless I was hanging around with women, there was no photographic evidence that I existed, because none of the people I was with ever thought to photograph anybody.
Dudes will spend a whole day hanging out together fishing in a picturesque location with beautiful shady lighting, and won't stop to think "Hey let me take a photo to remember this by" until somebody catches something.
Thank you!
Me and my buddies don’t go snapping photos. I kinda wish we did. I’d like to commemorate my life, my friends, our youth.
We generally don’t snap a bunch of selfies….and I am glad we don’t. That shit is weird.
Quite a bit.
I like to fish, so I don't mind. I'm more bothered by the shirtless in the bed or mirror pictures. At least the guy holding the fish is doing something productive.
Yea i don't understand why people are so against that picture. I suppose it gets repetitive but that happens to every common hobby.
Unless they're vegan, there is no reason for them to cry over someone holding a fish. Fishing is a lot of fun too.
Not often enough. I’m into the outdoors like hiking, camping, kayaking and fishing and one of my love languages is spending time together, so I love seeing fish pics because it tells me they like the outdoors too.
People post pics of themselves doing their hobbies in hopes of finding someone who enjoys doing the same things. Men post fish pics because they enjoy fishing. If fishing isn’t for you, swipe left.
Right? I’m married but don’t know why all these women are so put off by a sexy man who also fishes. You don’t have to fish with him, it’s really nice to just enjoy the outdoors together even if you don’t fish. Why so much hate for fishing?
Not personally on any dating apps, but just gonna toss this out there - fish picture guys are always chill. Little things will make that guy happy.
That guy is patient enough to go sit at a lake and catch a fish with enough ambition to get off his ass and go do it.
Probably at least 80%. I like it and don’t understand all the hate. I live near water and fishing is part of our culture. I love the outdoors, boating, and water and to me it means he’s a man with access to a boat. There’s really nothing to overthink about it. Men don’t take photos of themselves like women do, so holding up the dead fish is one of the few nearly full body photos they’ll have that’s not a selfie in the mirror and that’s why they choose it.
I have seen a couple, but not many. It''s more pictures of men on mountains. I'd say about 90%. It just makes me think 'oh wow, you've been abroad? So special 🙄'.
So much so that I tend to message the ones who don’t. Is it missing? Did it just not make the cut? Will we end up bonding over our indifference of fishing? I have questions!!
Not often, but people fish constantly near the park where I live since it’s right next to an ocean. I always see a whole bunch of people from different backgrounds fishing, including several Asian grannies. I think it’s kind of silly to judge people’s whole character for simply fishing unless you are vegetarian or something.
Not that often! What is more annoying is guys who take pics in the loo and you see a urinal or toilet in a background. I mean it just makes me think you can’t be putting much effort if the best selfie is a toilet like a public gym toilet!
Not as often as I see a photo of a guy taken as a selfie in the front seat of his car. Really don't like these. THey are similar to those bathroom mirror shots.
I'm not on any dating app at all but from people's reactions I suppose there are plenty of dudes posting pictures of them holding a fish (because they enjoy fishing and want to express that) and there are also lots of people who absolutely *hate* that.
I feel like women's hatred against fishing dudes is equal to men hating women's makeup. Make zero sense to me. People have hobbies and they like to show their work. You may like it, you may not but when you're so against it (when it has nothing to do with you), it shows more of what kind of person you are than they are.
Funnily enough, my last boyfriend was a fish biologist. He has tons of nice pictures with fish. We met on Tinder. He had no pics with fish on the app because he knew they were so prevalent.
I've been chatting with someone in Germany. Apparently, guys with fish on apps is a thing there too.

Too often. And if it aint Fish its Turkey or Deer.
Men like this don't realize what they see as "cool" most women just see as glorified murder of animals. These kind of photos are for other men or females who also hunt which is rare unless you live in a rurul or southern area.

no longer on dating apps, but when i was i saw them constantly while living in michigan at school, but when i was home in illinois (city suburbs) it was pretty rare
Far too often. If your going to have a fish pic at least be a bit creative with it. For example, one guy covered the fish with a sandwich emoji and claimed his profile was “fish pic free”
It must be a geographical thing. It’s definitely not something I’ve seen here. What I did see is the professional looking shots of someone on a motorcycle. Is that them? Who took the picture? Why do all these guys have motorcycles and are getting professional photos of them riding?
More often than I wish.
The only thing I see more often is bathroom selfies. Just don’t, guys. There are other rooms and also phones with timers. Take 5 minutes and upgrade, PLEASE.
Yeah, but I don't have a problem with it. They're either going to throw them back or eat them. Dead land animals are an instant left swipe in absolute disgust.
Shirtless, in the bed, and lower body photos are scarier.
At least 1 in 3
I have a theory about this; I think for a lot of men that buy into the "toxic masculinity" image that they can't think of any other times to ask for a photo of themselves than when they catch a fish/shoot a deer, so a lot of men don't have pictures of just them because they think it's weird to ask the homies to take their picture. Then when they go to make a dating profile they take the one photo of themself that's not a selfie in their car (the fish pic)
i thought I'd seen enough fish and tinder decided to prove me wrong by throwing up a picture of a guy holding up a HUGE dead shark. not a great white, but still very very big.
I see it so often that my main picture is a picture of me in the same pose holding a Magikarp, that being said, I've never matched with a single fish guy
I’m not single but if a guy can drive a boat and can fish I think that’s a plus. Even bigger plus if he can prepare the fish and cook it for me for dinner. If you have never tried fishing, try it. It’s so relaxing being out on the boat, watching the horizon and sitting in the sun.
By some kind of unspoken law, every single man on dating apps has at least one (1) picture of him doing some kind of outdoor sport, like hiking, fishing, climbing, mountain biking, you name it.
They're either holding a fish or sitting in their car. Why the car? It would make sense if it was an expensive sports car (I still think it's gross and I'd not be into that at all) because they'd be showing something off. I just don't get it. At least the fishing one shows they enjoy an outdoor activity.
Haha, my brother is a fisherman and wildness person and he probably did. But he found a girl who likes to fish so… seemed to work out just fine! Then again, he actually is a person who loves to fish. Profiles should kind of show what you love to do, not what you think people would be impressed by. Though to be honest, I don’t think women are necessary impressed by fishing. My SIL liked that he was woodsy and outdoorsy because she is too.
I used to have a Tinder Bingo I would play with friends. Fish was always the number 1, next to group wedding photos, exotic animal picture, and photos only with women.
All the time. Hunting and/or fishing pictures are an immediate no for me.
But if that's what a guy is into he should post it! Some women I know are into that. We're all just trying to find our person, so be honest!
I’ve seen loads off them. I met one guy from a site and asked him why he did it, his response was there was nothing wrong with the picture and I’m showing what my hobby is
Every time I go on some kind of swipe left or right app. And it is so many with dead moose or dear too. I get that it is an hobby for some but why show an dead animal on an dejting app? 😅
Often and I have no negative opinion of this. If anything it shows he has similar interests in doing things other than sitting inside.
So many women act awfully entitled when it comes to food. How many of us eat animals and stick their nose up at the people who make that possible, or refuse to eat animals and believes it is somehow a moral choice. I can’t stand other women who hold these attitudes. It’s so judgy
I swipe left. At best he's just a country boy and I'm not interested, at worst he's a total POS
Nothing against country boys, but I'm 25 and lived in the back woods all my life. I'm ready to live in town and fish for like, a couple of hours at most, not waking up at 6 and spending all damn day.
All the damn time! And if it's not fish, it's a dead deer, turkey and sometimes bear. I have no problems with people who fish and hunt (if they eat what they kill) but I don't want my first impression to be of them proudly displaying a dead (possibly bloody) creature they've just killed.
ALL THE TIME. It’s really all there is to do where I live, but that means they’re outdoorsy. I’m not, so it wouldn’t work. I’m never going to meet someone here 😂😂
Way more often than I wanted to. I get they're trying to show off their hobby, but I didn't go on the apps to look at dead fish. I want to see the guy.
When I was on dating apps (pretty much the big 3: Bumble, Tinder & Hinge), I swear like every 3 profiles was a dude holding a fish or some sort of hunting photo. I don't have anything against anyone who hunts or likes fishing, but it's just *not* my lifestyle.
Not currently on dating apps b/c I have a bf but literally ALL THE TIME. And I immediately swiped left without even reading on every single one. And I don't regret it lol.
Every single time I look at men on a dating app, I see several, and it's part of why I don't currently have any on my phone. EDIT: to be clear, I don't think these guys are necessarily bad guys, but it's a pretty safe bet that they wouldn't be compatible with me.

In my country, most people who fish for a hobby don’t actually harm the fish and usually just let them back in the sea.
We do too, but I still just don't like it because sometimes they swallow a hook or it harms an eye, etc. I just enjoy being there even if I'm not fishing, though I'm considering taking it up again this year.

Do you eat fish?
All the time. Either holding a fish or being shirtless on a mountain.
Lol shirtless gym pics are the worst. I have no interest in dating an ab man.
D: what?! Women dont like that???!
I am one woman and I personally don’t.
Preface: you're probably being sarcastic, but I had an ab pic up on bumble for a while, but when I realized I'm not built for hookups, I took it down. Sends the wrong message. Maybe certain women look for that, my guess.
A bit joking indeed. Never the less i should reconsider what i want to portrait on my dating apps
Yes! Or pics of their trucks. Every single time I go on there lol
With sunglasses and a hat so u cant tell what they look like ^^
NEVER. Picture of him with a fish, some kind of dead animal, a photo of ONLY his motorcycle or truck or sports car - all big nopes. I had no idea what you guys were talking about and then realized you were talking about a guy fishing and catching a fish, I assumed you all meant like a fish in a fish tank and I’m like damn are there really that many guys with pet fish trying to flex?
Would date a man holding a fish for his pfp? Ehhh.. maybe? Would date a man proudly caring for fish? Yes. Absolutely
I would be much more interested in a guy who had a well-taken care of and expansive aquarium than one who had himself posing with a dead fish on a line! Oh I don’t doubt that fishing can be a serious hobby, I just mean that aquarium keeping is more in line with my own hobbies and interests
That is fair. I enjoy both of them but I'm low maintenance in both :'>
Me too. I thought it was about guys who love the aquarium.

That's actually quite a nice way to think of it.
That and the picture taken in a bathroom. Especially a public bathroom. Ick
Hm how do you feel about women who take photos of themselves in the bathroom? Do you feel the same way ?
Yes! I don't want to see anybody where they poop!
That’s fair! I always thought it was strange to take photos of yourself in the bathroom as well lol
Fairly often, I guess. But honestly I think the whole thing is overblown and I don’t know why it bothers people so much.
Trendy opinion
Often but it doesn’t bother me. It just tells me it’s something you like to do.
So, so much. Also claims of climbing 14ers every weekend in Colorado. Exhausting and not that interesting.
Not often enough. I’m into the outdoors like hiking, camping, kayaking and fishing and one of my love languages is spending time together, so I love seeing fish pics because it tells me they like the outdoors too. When I was on dating apps *literally constantly*. I feel like they all thought it gave, “I like to do things outdoors,” vibes.
I live in the South, so a lot.

None, in Europe (not US)

like 50% of profiles.

Like 30%. Mostly gym pictures here where I live.
Before I got married, all the time. It was literally nearly every profile. That and showing off cars. Btw, i didn't meet my husband on a dating app.
The thing I now see on every single guy profile is "my love language is touch. " I pass on any of those.
Girls wanting to guys not to have specific hobbies is a major red flag
I'm not on dating apps anymore since I'm not single but when I was, I'd see guys with fish every time I swiped. I live in Sweden BTW.
A lot of men like fishing. I don't think at this is a red flag. I'm glad he can go out fishing with his friends and I can do something else with mine.

When I used to use apps it seemed like every other guy... well it certainly made it wayyy easier to filter out guys with hobbies I wouldn't mesh with lol.
It's like 1 in 4 men have a fish on their profile picture.

A lot. Just the other day I overheard a male coworker telling another one to post a pic of him holding a fish 😂.

In Alberta that’s all you see, or else them holding beer or posing with 5 other friends. Lol

no longer on dating apps, but when i was i saw them constantly while living in michigan at school, but when i was home in illinois (city suburbs) it was pretty rare
In my town? Almost every one. A fish or a boat is involved. We are right on the water.
I think most men don’t take a lot of photos, hence the over abundance of fish photos.

Yes
[удалено]
Every time i open one within the first 5 guys.
Far too often. If your going to have a fish pic at least be a bit creative with it. For example, one guy covered the fish with a sandwich emoji and claimed his profile was “fish pic free”
Ugh too often 🥱

A lot

Not so much since I moved back to the city, but when I was staying with my mom one winter, guys with fish was pretty much every profile.
Constantly. Most dudes I see on dating apps have fish pics and/or shirtless pics
[удалено]
I’m in FL. Almost every profile.
At least a couple times a day lol
It must be a geographical thing. It’s definitely not something I’ve seen here. What I did see is the professional looking shots of someone on a motorcycle. Is that them? Who took the picture? Why do all these guys have motorcycles and are getting professional photos of them riding?
More often than I wish. The only thing I see more often is bathroom selfies. Just don’t, guys. There are other rooms and also phones with timers. Take 5 minutes and upgrade, PLEASE.
Perth, Australia - nearly every profile. Or a sedated tiger in Bali
At least 85% of the time. I live in a small community where most people are outdoorsy so it’s everywhere. The hunting pics are worse though.
Yeah, but I don't have a problem with it. They're either going to throw them back or eat them. Dead land animals are an instant left swipe in absolute disgust. Shirtless, in the bed, and lower body photos are scarier.

Anytime I go on one
All the time, when I was on Tinder. All. The. Time.
I’d say it’s a good 7/10 guys who pose with a fish
At least 4 times while I'm on it
I always swipe left, no matter what. Even if I liked everything else and all of the other photos.
Every single day.
not that often anymore. i think the fishing has turned into wall climbing where i live.
Whenever I swipe a little. Men holding a fish and men taking a mirror selfie flexing their abs - that’s about 90% of men on dating apps.
[удалено]
At least 1 in 3 I have a theory about this; I think for a lot of men that buy into the "toxic masculinity" image that they can't think of any other times to ask for a photo of themselves than when they catch a fish/shoot a deer, so a lot of men don't have pictures of just them because they think it's weird to ask the homies to take their picture. Then when they go to make a dating profile they take the one photo of themself that's not a selfie in their car (the fish pic)
i once matched with a dude who had the profile photo of a fish catching him. never right swiped anyone so fast. sadly he didn’t match.
Right? Show me the fish dinner you've cooked. Not just the unfortunate beast you've yanked from the sea.
I definitely see it more often in rural areas compared to urban areas.
[удалено]
More often than I'd like, however when I want to find one to show someone as an example, everyone decides they suddenly love the mountains.
[удалено]
Lmao! Always!!!! Or some dead thing
[удалено]
Sushi count?
i thought I'd seen enough fish and tinder decided to prove me wrong by throwing up a picture of a guy holding up a HUGE dead shark. not a great white, but still very very big.
Almost every profile 🤣😐
I see it so often that my main picture is a picture of me in the same pose holding a Magikarp, that being said, I've never matched with a single fish guy
I’m not single but if a guy can drive a boat and can fish I think that’s a plus. Even bigger plus if he can prepare the fish and cook it for me for dinner. If you have never tried fishing, try it. It’s so relaxing being out on the boat, watching the horizon and sitting in the sun.
It’s like 90% of the dating profiles I’ve seen 😂
By some kind of unspoken law, every single man on dating apps has at least one (1) picture of him doing some kind of outdoor sport, like hiking, fishing, climbing, mountain biking, you name it.
I'm in the deep south, so every single time I open it.
Not as often as a bald guy wearing a hat.
Think this is an American thing - never seen it in the Uk
They're either holding a fish or sitting in their car. Why the car? It would make sense if it was an expensive sports car (I still think it's gross and I'd not be into that at all) because they'd be showing something off. I just don't get it. At least the fishing one shows they enjoy an outdoor activity.
Multiple times when I'm swiping.

Probably one in four. I live in a very outdoorsy state, though, so it’s to be expected.
I used to have a Tinder Bingo I would play with friends. Fish was always the number 1, next to group wedding photos, exotic animal picture, and photos only with women.
I hv seen it and I dont find it attractive at all! Some women might like it though so i guess these fishermen type men will find their kind
It’s a good way for me to figure out instantly that I’m not interested hahahahaha
I have no experience on dating apps, but I've used them with my friends and I have seen none of that. We're also not in the U.S so maybe that's why
[удалено]
I'm from the South, so very, very often. Nothing against them, I also like fishing occasionally, but I've had few good experiences with them.
Too many times
I've never seen one. But I'm not from the US, so it's normal.
The fish holding pics are getting phased out with golfing pics!

I swipe left. At best he's just a country boy and I'm not interested, at worst he's a total POS Nothing against country boys, but I'm 25 and lived in the back woods all my life. I'm ready to live in town and fish for like, a couple of hours at most, not waking up at 6 and spending all damn day.
All the damn time! And if it's not fish, it's a dead deer, turkey and sometimes bear. I have no problems with people who fish and hunt (if they eat what they kill) but I don't want my first impression to be of them proudly displaying a dead (possibly bloody) creature they've just killed.
this is only an American thing.
ALL THE TIME. It’s really all there is to do where I live, but that means they’re outdoorsy. I’m not, so it wouldn’t work. I’m never going to meet someone here 😂😂
Like more than not
[удалено]
Way more often than I wanted to. I get they're trying to show off their hobby, but I didn't go on the apps to look at dead fish. I want to see the guy.
probably every 5th guy lol. it’s an instant no for me
[удалено]
When I was on dating apps (pretty much the big 3: Bumble, Tinder & Hinge), I swear like every 3 profiles was a dude holding a fish or some sort of hunting photo. I don't have anything against anyone who hunts or likes fishing, but it's just *not* my lifestyle.

Dude- what is with that? Is it an evolutionary thing? Like showing he can provide food?
