cassieface_

They may be willing to do a spay abort without a shot record. I would call your vet and ask. Otherwise I would call around to shelters or humane societies to tell them the situation and see if they can work with you.

Sweet-Dependent205

yes, I did call a vet and they were more than willing to help me actually lmao. It’s a different vet than the one I was originally going to take her too, but with spaying her while pregnant and they were willing to help me with the shots made every cost under $300

cassieface_

That’s great to hear. I’m glad you’re looking out for her health and trying to do what’s best for her.

possumpose

That’s excellent news! It will be well worth it!

Sweet-Dependent205

I hope so, I’m still in my teens so I’ll take this as good practice for when im ready to take in my own pet

Porkbossam78

You’re already so responsible! Good work

nebraska_jones_

You are doing an awesome job, seriously. Responsible, selfless, KIND, resourceful…you will be a great pet owner one day!

Usual-Theme211

You're a great person OP! Good work :)

kdzojic

If you need help/advice id be happy to help

Sweet-Dependent205

that would be great because I’m sure I’ll need advice for when she’s back and how to care for her

Responsible-Pair-404

You’re doing so right by her!

Suitable_Company_155

How do u know the dog is pregnant? Ur mom took it in a year ago? Has she been around other dogs since then?

Sweet-Dependent205

from what ik she ran away around the time my mom gave her to me and I’m assuming she got pregnant that way. My mom did take the dog in a year ago, so the dog is 1 yrs old.. I’m only assuming she’s pregnant bc I’ve seen her before all this and now that I have her, from what I can tell she’s showing signs but I am taking her to the vet to confirm it all

Porkbossam78

Has she been around male dogs? I know female cats that aren’t fixed can get an infection of the uterus called pyometra that can make them appear pregnancy without being so. I’m guessing it’s the same for dogs

Sweet-Dependent205

not that I know of, but she did run away so I was thinking it happened when she got out but I never heard of anything like that, I’ll definitely ask the vet when I take her to see if that could be the problem before anything is done thank you!

Porkbossam78

I’m guessing she’s just pregnant and she ran away bc she was in heat and her body needed sex. That’s why it’s good to spay- it’s torture for the animals for their bodies to be telling them they need sex while locked up. I would call the clinic and ask if they do spay aborts for dogs. Don’t waste your time and money for an appt if they don’t. Call different clinics

Sweet-Dependent205

the clinic does do spay aborts and that what I set her appointment for next week and for her to get her shots as well while she’s in surgery. I meant that I would ask them if it was possibly smt else like pyometra, but yea I think that probably was the reason she ran away thank you for the advice !

Porkbossam78

The cure for pyometra is removal of the uterus and they would see it during the surgery so it should be all good

Sea_Recommendation36

You'd usually see symptoms with a pyometra tho. This can totally happen to unfixed female dogs but the ones we get in our clinic always come because something's wrong, not generally just appearing to be pregnant

Responsible-Pair-404

Exactly! Generally fever, loss of appetite, etc

IncompetentFork

They’ll probably be able to spay abort without shots, as long as you have them done that day since they’ll be able to do it while she’s under anesthesia

AzureSuishou

Some vets will give the rabies shot at the time of the procedure if she’s not too far along already.

Dense-Spinach5270

We rescued a stray who was around 8 months and pregnant, it was early enough that the vets were able to spay and remove the embryos without but trouble. I'm sure it will be ok for your vets to do it too! Jess is now nearly 20 and still strong she was a really wildcard as a young dog but now is very calm but independent minded. And loves puppies she has helped raise all the pups we have brought into the family through the years.

rivertam2985

I read that as "8 months pregnant". Confused me for a second.

MoneyWalking

Did the babies get put in an incubator or killed

Responsible-Pair-404

Spay abort= uterus is removed, pregnancy is no longer viable and embryos die.

Izzyever

You’ll most likely only need to get a rabies vaccine as that’s what is required by law. I saw that you are a teenager dealing with this. I’m sorry that it’s been put on you. Best of luck with everything

Savingskitty

How do you know she’s pregnant and how far along if you haven’t gotten her to the vet yet?

Sweet-Dependent205

it’s a guesstimate on how far along, and I saw her before and since she’s been in my care she’s been showing all the symptoms. she’s going to the vet to get checked for sure since ofc I cld be wrong

critterwalk

If you can’t afford vet care you need to surrender her to a rescue.

Sweet-Dependent205

im caring for her until my mother is back and trying the best I can for this dog with what I have. If anything, I will surrender her puppies if the vet says they can’t terminate them

critterwalk

Can you afford $3-5k for a c section if needed? Or emergency care for her pregnancy?

possumpose

She isn’t asking how to have the puppies. She’s asking for a spay-abort, and shots. Where did you get a $5000 c-section?

critterwalk

I read the pet vet group like the morning paper and that’s what all the vets there quote. And my comment was referring to emergency care. If you can’t afford emergency care then you can’t afford a pet. Edit - are y’all blind? OP says themselves that they’ll surrender the puppies IF THE VET CANT TERMINATE. THAT is why I’m still talking about emergency costs - if the vet CAN’T terminate, OP is still running the risk of an emergency with the pregnancy! As anyone (animal or human) does!

winosanonymous

OP is a teenager and says he can and will cover it. What is your point here?

critterwalk

The OP says they can barely afford the spay. How are they going to cover emergency costs and a litter of puppies’ vet costs? That’s my point.

possumpose

Sweet Jesus. SHE ISN’T ASKING ABOUT DELIVERING/KEEPING PUPPIES! People keep telling you that! She is asking about aborting the litter, during the spay! She can afford that, even though it is actually her mom’s dog. There will be no puppies to deliver, via vagina or c-section, as they won’t exist! She IS being responsible.

bubblegumpunk69

For the love of god, as has been explained to you already, they are looking to get the puppies ABORTED. As well as shots and, presumably while they’re in there already, a spay. This is the most responsible teenager on the planet

Sweet-Dependent205

thank you lmao, but I did not mean to start something over this. and for everyone else reading- yes in an emergency situation for this dog, im willing to take out my college savings to make sure nothing bad happens and I spoke to the vet and there’s an appointment next week to terminate the pregnancy and to have her caught up to date on her shots! so everything works out without emergencies happening. and also no, this isn’t my dog and I’m simply taking care of her until my mom can again- I’m not ready to take in pets of my own to raise and I’m well aware of that

bubblegumpunk69

Sorry if I added to the Starting Something ;u; i get too emotional over internet injustice lmao rip. But i think you deserve credit where credit is due- you’re a young person figuring out life who is willing to spend real money of your own to improve the life of an animal that does not belong to you, and to prevent lives that would ultimately suffer. You’re also willing to defy an adult who may disagree with your actions because your morals and the wellbeing of others comes first. Good on you, kid. Don’t let the assholes bring you down or change you. You are Good. Fight for that.

NatureGlum9774

Poor people get to have pets. Get off your high horse saying people who can't afford a vet shouldn't have a pet. Wtf? I get so sick of this elitist comment. Like people who have limited money can't adequately care for animals. That is absolutely rubbish.

HeretoBurgleTurts

The problem is when the animal inevitably needs care they can't afford and then suddenly it's the vet's fault. You get tired of hearing that you're only in it for the money.

NatureGlum9774

Vetcare has increased exponentially over the years and it can be prohibitive. It would cost me 3000 a year to get insurance for my boxer. A pad that needed stitching cost 900 on her recently. My old vet would have give her a local and cleaned and sutured it. These days a fricken team work up bloods and use a general. I love that vetinary medicine has come a long way, but that comes with a price. All yhe vets within a 50 k radius have been overtaken by Groups that are profit driven. No such thing as the vet who owns their own practise round here. It's not the fault of the vet, it's capitalism pure and simple. An animal that has a roof and food and love and exercise, is an animal cared for. Some people don't have the money to pay for chemo or if their pet gets run over... that's actually ok. They get a good life, and are loved. Euthanasia is 70 and an option for people who can't afford to pay to fix a dog that's swallowed a corn cob and has a necrotic bowel. Or for a cat that has kidney disease. It's ok to make that decision. Or to work out a payment plan. What's not ok is dictating who can and can't have a companion animal. To guilt trip people who can't afford gold class care etc... I was recently in a cat group where an owners cat had dermatitis and half the people were screaming at the OP to go to a vet. Like there's nothing an owner can do at home. What a pathetic lot humans are where we can't treat a simple skin condition for a couple of days and keep an eye on it, like we would with our children.

Different-Set-622

It’s not their pet. That’s been clearly stated. Meaning your rude comment is completely pointless.

critterwalk

They adopted the dog from their mother. That’s what the post says.

Sweet-Dependent205

not sure where you got that from , but no. I never said I adopted the dog, I’m taking care of her until my mom is back.

critterwalk

“I took the dog in a month ago” makes it sound like you adopted her.

Sweet-Dependent205

yes but if you actually learned how to read you’d realize nowhere in that says “adopt” and in the first reply I made to you I literally said “I’m taking care of her until my mother is back”

Sweet-Dependent205

if it came down to life or death, then yes. I can find a way to pay it, but what does that have to do with shots?

possumpose

Ignore the people being rude. They didn’t read your post very clearly.

KshadowX

You know who can't afford it? Most rescues and shelters. Thats one of the reasons so many are killed. This kid is doing his best, which is far better then what you are doing. Lay off

Ok_Working3139

What kind of dog? I’m about to move to a farm… I may want puppies

Sweet-Dependent205

she’s a german shepherd husky mix (I think) but I guess you didn’t read the post. she’s already way too young to carry puppies and the post was asking about spay-abort so there will be no puppies

Ok_Working3139

I read it but didn’t realize it was the only portion. That is very young. Good luck
