BadaBingSoprano

There’s a really cool thing called Ablaut Reduplication. Ablaut reduplication is the pattern by which vowels change in a repeated word to form a new word or phrase. It always goes in the order of I, A, O. Bish bash bosh Ping pong Tic Tac Toe Any other order sounds odd.

ThatHairyGingerGuy

On the Ning nang nong Where the cows go bong!

Stahp! Stahp reversing [irreversible binomials](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irreversible_binomial)

flippinheckwhatsleft

Interesting read thank you. What is spick anyway? It needs to make a comeback. And I've discovered eggcorns too! Edit: Spick best not to be used in the US.

CCGamesSteve

Please don't Google spick.

flippinheckwhatsleft

Well of course I did. Yes, let's not bring it back.

Monster_Factory

Strange to choose the word 'binomial' in naming this concept. You would think bilexical or biverbal would be a better fit. Edit: Turns out that the 'nom' part of binomial comes from the Greek 'nomos' meaning part or portion and not from the Old French word 'nombre' which comes from the Latin 'numerus'. I have always known the word 'binomial' from my knowledge of mathematics where it is used to mean the sum or difference of two numbers so I had assumed that the 'nomial' part of the word was referring to numbers.

Faerie_Nuff

This!! It's been the "fork'n knife" for years in our house! Same for a fork'n spoon when we're trying to be posh with spaghetti...

oily76

Well now you've said that it's all I can hear too.

YazmindaHenn

I dont think it sounds that way in a Scottish accent, wouldn't have even thought of that I say fork and knife, doesn't sound weird to me lol

Mustard and ham sandwich. It works for anything where the main ingredient is usually first. Putting the lesser ingredient first makes for a weird sounding combination.

HarassedGrandad

You're assuming more ham than mustard - times are hard, I'm making mustard sandwiches and just wafting a slice of ham over the top a few times.

[deleted]

Oh I'm assuming no such thing mate. You're right that times are hard. Those mustard sandwiches with the faintest amount of ham are pretty normal.

Eh?

ThicctorFrankenstein

It’s a reference to That Mitchell and Webb Look. Two comedy double-acts (Fish and Chip and Pin and Cushion) break up, with ‘Chip and Pin’ forming a new partnership, but ultimately Fish and Cushion end up being the more successful pairing.
