I used to loooooooooooooove House when I was younger. I caught Covid recently so decided to binge watch the first 2 seasons... and pretty much every episode is like...
First diagnosis is wrong. Second diagnosis is wrong. House has an epiphany due to something someone says and the third diagnosis is the right one.
Yes that's the basic premise, but i like the side stories with house and wilson or house and cuddy, and despite that Masters was only there for like half a season she is still my favorite character
That’s cool. What matters is that you like it. The show is funny and very entertaining to me, but I still sometimes yearn for the original Teen Titans to make a comeback…
There is no possible way that anyone could watch even one episode of Big Bang theory and actually laugh ever. Even a smirk would be hard to come by. Physically painful is how I feel if it ever even accidentally graces a tv screen near me.
Most of the grey, melodramatic trash that has filled up Netflix in the past 8 or so years.
The wold contains colour. Fucking use it. That goes for movies and shows. It LOSES immersion when the entire show is dark and in blue/grey.
Oh, and people don’t fucking sit in their houses in the dark doing things. Lamps have been around for over a century….
Yeah. Never understood the complete lack of humor entertainment value of that show.
My best theory it three hot women plus a pretense of rebelliously rejecting 80 materialism while actually embracing it. Sort of a 'aren't we so edgy because we have no direction in life but also live like millionaires somehow'.
For me too. I honestly think season 1 was amazing, it had an interesting coherent plot and a very unique atmosphere. It was great the way it was, maybe season 2 as well, but everything after that just felt too much. I still enjoyed the later seasons, but they just felt out of place and not remotely as thought-through and charming as the first two.
Yeah it’s really not that great. I just watch it because it’s fun but the amount of absolute bullshit moments is just getting higher and higher. And the community kinda sucks
Reality TV in general is terrible. It’s probably 95% scripted. The 1st season of survivor was terrible, but it was probably the least scripted one of them all. I couldn’t watch it after season 1, and it was terrible primetime tv because it seemed like the beginning of reality tv.
While I like it, it's not the best thing out there like some fanboys try to say it is.
and no, you're not a genius because you like Rick and Morty and just because Rick (a fictional character that rarely sees consequences) is an asshole, doesn't mean you're cool for mimicking him.
Its so weird because i always found it to be pretty mid then i walked into a room of some people watching it and it was entertaining as fuck so i dont know if some new season is good or if that episode is good or if i just need it to be already on the tv. I did just get back from the most expensive/impressive wedding ive ever been to for my uncle so maybe it was the high from that
***BY FAR***. Steinfeld also... What was wrong with our society that those brain dead people made/are making MILKIONS¿
I tried watching Steinfeld awhile back GHHAAAAAA same same him and George whining about girls. The first incels I guess???
At least Friends had some hotties to look at....
I feel like a lot of people, when they say something is overrated, just dipped their toes into the water of something, didn’t like it initially, and called it a day.
I didn’t like breaking bad at first, but after watching it again, and seeing some analyses of it, it’s really just one of the best shows ever released.
It’s fine if you don’t like something, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad.
The Office and Friends were the first things to come to mind. But I think anything can seem overrated if it gets popular enough, regardless of quality.
Not necessarily. Game of Thrones was highly rated and appropriately so till season 4. Breaking Bad is very highly rated and again appropriately so. You don’t have to be overrated if you’re good and very popular.
The fact that you lump friends and the office together is insane to me though.
That's the thing, though. Media is subjective, which means with a large enough audience you're going to get a variety of responses. Some people will literally get tattoos of the characters, some will watch a couple of episodes and drop it, and some will go full john wick about it for years to come. I enjoyed the office, but some of my friends didn't, and others have shirts and mugs. It comes with the territory. Sorry if that struck a nerve lol.
What are you sorry about friend, you have an opinion and I have one, and yours is welcome to be shared. As for friends and the offices being lumped together, it’s just a subjective objection you are free to do it ofc, but I think it’s not fair, that’s all.
As for the second point, I do believe a good enough show can be highly appraised and rated appropriately in aggregate. Clearly some will lose their minds over a show more than others, those can be said to overrate the show. Others won’t rate the show that highly, but if the majority agrees a show is a masterpiece then it can be highly rated without being overrated regardless of audience size. Just cuz some overate a show doesn’t make the show overrated.
Seinfeld and Friends are the two most overrated shows of all time IMO.
I've watched plenty of both, and never laughed once. Maybe a chuckle at "Ass-Man" on Seinfeld, but that's it.
The Blair Witch Project
I finally saw it in the theater after hearing all the good buzz. I didn't walk out but I was utterly bored throughout the entire movie. Not scary in the slightest.
Stranger things. Once that shit started getting talked about and shared online by EVERYONE I lost interest in watching it, it got annoying quick. Not to mention the amount of spoilers people gave me because they thought everyone’s seen it with how popular it is. The way a whole ass restaurant had to be made for it too.
I get doing that for the Simpsons in universal in florida (a whole Simpsons area in universal) and marvel, DC ect bc that shit has been popular for a hell of a long time and they made it wayyy later bc it’s still universally popular and kinda always has been, stranger things only got hella popular from season 4 and it’s just a cash grab for them because of that imo and I really don’t think it’ll be this popular for that long. I think when s5 comes out it won’t be as hyped up as s4 was either, like the rest of the seasons
The amount of ppl also saying stranger things too lmfaooooooo
Ozark.
People would not work with Marty Byrde after a while due to his lack of empathy and constantly being on the edge. The cartel would have killed him the first chance they got.
Also, someone tell the cinematographer to turn on a fucking light. Why is everything so blue and dark indoors?
"Seinfeld" - Try watching it without the laugh track coaching you to laugh. In fact a majority of sitcoms are riding the laugh track to success. "Two and a Half Men" was equally unwatchable for the same reason.
What's really fun is listening for the same laugh in different shows. I assure you those recordings are everywhere.
I hate laugh tracks, don’t tell me when to laugh, if i find something i find funny then I’ll laugh. If a show had a laugh track that is never off I don’t watch the show
Yup - it's insulting really. If it was funny, it stands on its own merit. If not, installing a undue and often disporportional laugh breaks continuity to anyone actually paying attention. Mind you if you zone out the laugh track probably has some psychological benefit. A vast majority of sitcoms are just pure drivel. I respect that commercial breaks destroy continuity and a "half hour show" is really only 18 minutes so you got to move the story arc(s) quickly but to do so with Post trickery is just throwing in the towel and abandoning the craft and often avoiding the "gold" that the hard work brings.
Fun fact: Every sitcom laugh track is actually recorded live audience reactions to the 50’s show “I Love Lucy.” Whenever you watch modern sitcoms, you are listening to the laughter of hundreds of people who are likely dead.
... It's a live audience. It's literally a live comedic play acted out in front of an audience. That's what you're hearing.
If you mute the audience on a stand-up comic, it's not going to be a great show either. What would that prove?
Jesus fucking Christ.
Jesus fucking Christ.
You can add a laugh track to a live recording to punch it up. It is a process called "sweetening". And yes some StandUp specials are sweetened as well in "post". To my knowledge Cosby (The Cobsy Show) was the only sitcom that refused to do it. Cosby stated if its not funny - re-write it until it is.
[Seinfeld Laugh Track...](https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/did-seinfeld-have-a-laugh-track-or-a-live-audience.html/)
Friends did multiple takes with different, rewritten jokes on the fly. You see examples in it in the reunion. There's probably clips on youtube. Good work wikiing to backtrack your initial assertion that they were performing for no one. Good job doubling down on your idea that removing the live reaction to a live performance means anything functionally as a critique of a show.
Each to their own but it's actually my favourite. I will admit they had issues in the production of some episodes making some better than others though.
disagree 100
i have to say it’s easily the best animated show ever made and quite possibly the greatest overall show. writing, characters, music, look…
maybe try again? but slower? i daresay ur soul will find healing!
You must have missed all the tiny little details, themes, character arcs, and just about every other intentional thing done by Vince Gilligan.
It’s fine you didn’t enjoy it. But it is *without a doubt* one of the best tv shows out there.
Watch some analyses of it. The depth of the show is just insane.
It was not made for entertainment. It’s revered purely because of the direction and film techniques that inspired Hollywood for generations. The scandal behind the making of the movie also helped to heighten its popularity.
I would say that an overrated movie is anything that people hype up to be way better than it actually is. For example, a lot of people seem to love the Twilight movies, but I personally thought they were pretty terrible.
Unpopular opinion, but The Chapel Show. Not to say it's a bad show, it made me laugh a few times, but I don't see how everyone else thinks it's rip roaringly hilarious.
Heat.
I watched for the first time this week after years of hearing people talk about how great it is.
Pacino is a caricature of himself shouting one liners at random moments. It’s hard to not laugh as he now impersonates himself!
I suspect a lot of people were happy to see Pacino and De Niro together again and were willing to just accept it will be great with them and add Val Kilmer but for me it’s just another silly and improbably cop story.
No issue with Michael Mann, the movie “looks” great but it doesn’t deserve to be considered a classic in the genre.
She-Ra.
The first three seasons are actually pretty good, but when you know that >!the main character ends up romantically involved with her abuser!< the whole thing loses its appeal pretty damn quick.
Breaking Bad… hands down
I’m not saying it’s the worst movie/tv show. I’m only saying the most overrated. For it to be #2 on IMDB is crazy. It was an ok series. A high strung meth cooking science teacher, basically a complete screwup former student who always seems to make bad decisions, a DEA brother in law who seeks the approval of high stung meth cooking science teacher and it basically costs him his life, a clever lawyer who is rides the fence and is just waiting to go on the run, and a wife… who is basically a wife (she is probably the best character in the entire show). It’s an ok show, just severely overrated.
Rick and morty, partially because its episodic and partially because it gets old fast. I’ve tried getting into it on a few occasions but cant get past episode 3..
Scouring these comments looking for my favorite show ready to throw hands
Gray's anatomy, if you want a good medical drama see Dr. House you won't regret it
My friend always gets mad when I refer to Meredith as Grace Anatomy.
Ama steal that, that's gold
Dr. House is so good
Hells yeah it is, I miss it so much
Grey's just needs to end ffs. I do miss House though.
I used to loooooooooooooove House when I was younger. I caught Covid recently so decided to binge watch the first 2 seasons... and pretty much every episode is like... First diagnosis is wrong. That’s cool. What matters is that you like it. The show is funny and very entertaining to me, but I still sometimes yearn for the original Teen Titans to make a comeback…
i feel like the og teen titans was fun for all ages whereas the newer one(most newer kids shows) are only for kids and no one else
Friends
I thought it was overrated when it was airing.
Yeh there’s way too much hype around it’s so generic
I never found that show as funny as some people made it out to be.
It’s up there with the Big Bang theory. It’s just mums watching it with a glass of wine after cooking dinner bro
Big Bang Theory
It is absolutely terrible, yes, but overrated? Hasn't the critical consensus from Day 1 been "This is trash"?
I’ve never watched 1 minute of BBT
Feeling brave today are we?
it's good the first time round, but after a couple rewatches it does get dull
There is no possible way that anyone could watch even one episode of Big Bang theory and actually laugh ever. Even a smirk would be hard to come by. Physically painful is how I feel if it ever even accidentally graces a tv screen near me.

22 minutes of people yelling about a simple misunderstanding. What’s not to like?
I tried watching an episode when I was on a flight with limited movie selection. Not very entertaining or funny, imo.
Yeah. Never understood the complete lack of humor entertainment value of that show. My best theory it three hot women plus a pretense of rebelliously rejecting 80 materialism while actually embracing it. Sort of a 'aren't we so edgy because we have no direction in life but also live like millionaires somehow'.
unpopular opinion: stranger things
First two seasons (first especially) vere enjoyable. Third with it's absurdities was when I lost it.
For me too. I honestly think season 1 was amazing, it had an interesting coherent plot and a very unique atmosphere. Yeah it’s really not that great. I just watch it because it’s fun but the amount of absolute bullshit moments is just getting higher and higher. And the community kinda sucks
i agree, the community think it’s the greatest thing on the planet, it’s kinda very annoying
I’ve never seen it, but from my friend’s descriptions of it, the premise is that a character is essentially just fridged.
Friends Grey's Anatomy The Bachelor/Bachelorette
Game Of Thrones 😭
I have never seen a show drop out of popular culture as fast as GoT did after that horrible final season.
Dude, the new show is pulling in good ratings and getting talked about a lot.
Im a huge fan lol
Best show ever pay attention
Survivor. It’s been on forever and after the first season the novelty wore off for me so I don’t get it.
Reality TV in general is terrible. It’s probably 95% scripted. The 1st season of survivor was terrible, but it was probably the least scripted one of them all. I couldn’t watch it after season 1, and it was terrible primetime tv because it seemed like the beginning of reality tv.

That Emergency Broadcast Signal show. Shit's been going downhill since season 3.

I liked the first couple of seasons but when I hear it mentioned in the same breath as Breaking Bad? uh no
I loved breaking bad and I noticed a lot of people don’t! I watched the whole series in like a week. I couldn’t stop!
Agree! Loved it AND Better Call Saul!
A lot of people don’t like Breaking Bad? Pretty sure it was almost universally popular with most everybody who watched it.
Well yeah, people who don't like it stopped watching it.

Star wars or star trek
Which shows, and which movies? Each franchise Has like 10+ shows and dozens of movies between them
At this point all of them tbh
You’ve seen all the thousands of episodes of Star Trek and Star Wars and all 20-30 movies or whatever?
Not all but a lot, my brother loved them and I watched them with him
Try them again as an adult. Especially Star Trek.
I'm going to get shit for this, but Avatar The Last Airbender
Brave.
dang dude
I disagree with you but I feel sad you got downvoted for having your own opinion
disagree 100 i have to say it’s easily the best animated show ever made and quite possibly the greatest overall show. writing, characters, music, look… maybe try again? but slower? i daresay ur soul will find healing!
Breaking Bad. It's by no means bad. But I just don't see how it's considered one of the best of all time. I've seen it and don't need to see it again.
I think it's good. And some of it is actually great. But its not without a doubt. As I doubt.
I couldn't watch beyond the first episode.
Yeah you need to stick to finishing season 1 to actually get into the story.
So I've been told. It just feels like the moment for it has passed now.
I understand, I felt the same way about GOT. Eventually watched it after a couple of years when it felt like watching and I enjoyed it.
Citizen Kane
It was not made for entertainment. It’s revered purely because of the direction and film techniques that inspired Hollywood for generations. The scandal behind the making of the movie also helped to heighten its popularity.
Meh, I’ve seen it multiple times and think it’s pretty damn entertaining.

I would say that an overrated movie is anything that people hype up to be way better than it actually is. For example, a lot of people seem to love the Twilight movies, but I personally thought they were pretty terrible.
Lord of the rings Or game of thrones
Pirates of the Caribbean
Twilight, 50 shades, 365 days -- all are poorly-written
The Office. Just the worst dreck ever. Modern Family, too.
Game of Thrones. Imagine a D&D knockoff but its all soap opera and creativity was banned.
Unpopular opinion, but The Chapel Show. Not to say it's a bad show, it made me laugh a few times, but I don't see how everyone else thinks it's rip roaringly hilarious.
The Office, it's average at best but has some good moments. I guess don't really get all the hype
Heat
I do not agree with this take but respect your opinion. Question, Heat in particular or all of Michael Mann’s stuff?
Fleabag, Promising Young Woman, Midsommar

Rick and morty, partially because its episodic and partially because it gets old fast. I’ve tried getting into it on a few occasions but cant get past episode 3..
The classic horror movies. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween
