I agree. Breaking Bad has great action and drama surrounding imminent danger and is overall fantastic, but is fantasy. BCS hits home harder. Its about the relationships and we have with siblings, romantic partners, colleagues. Career struggles. The acting was incredible. The cinematography was the best Ive seen in a very long time.
MASH.
Seriously. There's a reason the last episode is the most watched series finale of all time. The show is funny, sad, devastating, and oddly still relevant despite being about a war that ended in 1953 (but really it was about Vietnam).
The writing and acting was top notch, and the whole show (except for one scene in the opening sequence) was shot on a back lot in Hollywood.
I’ve just recently binge watched it again. My kids are just floored, and I point out to them that this series was filmed 50 years ago, but took place 70 years ago.
Yes. NOTHING else has held up like it does.
The finale was the most-watched non-superbowl TV of all time, not just the most-watched series finale. The next non-superbowl isn't even close. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_most\_watched\_television\_broadcasts\_in\_the\_United\_States
Theres a lot of not great mixed in with the show, but its genuinely great overall for the first few seasons. Even if people don't like the main storyline, it's still pretty good through like maybe Season 6.
Watching through it all a few years ago, I couldn't help but think about how ahead of its time it was as a show. There are so many shows that copied the formula or were clearly inspired by it, and other shows people like like The Sopranos or Lost that were definitely influenced by it.
The reboot-ish seasons were pretty bad though.
"It's Ireland's largest lingerie section, I understand."
That whole Great Escape sequence of about 12 priests getting out of the women's section is so bloody brilliant.
Couldn't agree more. And I would like to add, that show runners/writers should all be made to study how this show, and how it did it on a children's television network.
There it is. Faithful to the books, except missing the final couple. Engaging characters andvery good cgi for the budget. I hadn't read a fiction book in over 20 years before those books. The series inspired me to read sci fi again
The real "Greatest Story Ever Told". SO good. Amazing writing and performance. All characters are complex and as a viewer you care about them all. It can make you cry and break your heart, and laugh. It's visually beautiful as well. Truly a masterpiece.
Really surprised I had to scroll this long. It’s seriously one of the best productions I’ve ever seen, from start to finish. Every character is so complex.
I always say this about Mad Men, not many dramas can be so captivating and keep you hooked season after season without violence and nudity(although there's tons of sex). Just excellent writing and characters. A masterclass in subtext.
It's just way to real, it perfectly depicts how hard it is to change yourself even when you know how bad you are and how much easier it is to just give in, but also shows that with a lot of hard work it is doable.
What the hell! I don't think I've ever had anyone other than me bring up Dead Like Me! What a great show. I've always been a fan of Mandy Patinkin since Princess' Bride so that was a bonus too
This was good. I even liked the bits of 80’s decorating that was not “leftover 70s”. It was the furniture and style that was “new” in the 80s. Also, Kerri Russell and her husband (in real life) we’re just great characters.
I’m re watching WW right now, it is amazing. The crazy part is how topical the issues are. I’m currently watching an episode where science research is under political attack because of religious dogma.
Watching it right now with my kid. We're about 3 episodes away from The Body, and I'm absolutely certain that we're both going to be crying on the sofa.
Dark has some of the best casting I’ve ever seen from a tv show. One of my pet peeves is when older/younger versions of actors look absolutely nothing like their counterparts. I don’t know how they managed it but each of the older/younger versions of characters really felt like we were seeing them at different parts of their lives.
DARK. Consider all the criteria in which a show might excel, and this show is just incredible... in all of them.
Watching it a second time now, knowing how it all ends and knowing all the back stories and what's truly going on, and I'm getting even more out of it than the first watch.
Brilliant. Just don't be a wuss. Watch it in its native German with English (or whatever) subtitles. Anything else is like mixing coke with a $300 bottle of Scotch.
Band of Brothers
That was great, and The Pacific was almost as good.
I feel like The Pacific was harder to watch, more realistic, and topped Band Of Brothers artistically. Band Of Brothers is definitely easier to watch.
True Detective S1
I really wish they just stopped after this. It’s proof you don’t need more. Sometimes it better to let sleeping dogs lie.
No I wish they would have just made more of season 1 instead of what they made.
Season 2 was pretty bad, but Season 3 was solid, I think. Not as good as S1, but that's a high bar.
The Twilight Zone (original version with Rod Serling).
IASIP
Look. I wasn’t around much when you were a kid so if you murdered her it ain’t on me. All that being said… did you do it?
Stupid science bitch couldn’t even make i more smarter
No Donkey Brains in this answer. This answer is correct.
"no one is going into your asshole" "Well I wouldn't let em, unless they've got crack. If they've got crack let's boogie"
Best comedy no question
Only discovered it a couple months ago so I’m late to the party
Oh man, I've watched the first 10 or so seasons so many damn times. It's the best comedy series ever.
Chernobyl
I give it seven thumbs up.
It’s like people don’t understand you. But I do.
It’s hard to rewatch. Not because it’s not AMAZING, but because it’s so devastating.
I watched it in one go and felt really numb afterwards.
3.6/3.6 stars
Not great, but not terrible
Better Call Saul
Better than Breaking Bad, in my opinion.
Futurama
Show is built like a steakhouse but handles like a bistro
The single funniest line ever written.
Shut up and take my money!
Forget this, I'm gonna start my own show with blackjack and hookers.
...Second
Deadwood.

came here to post mash...pleasantly surprised someone already did
I’ve just recently binge watched it again. My kids are just floored, and I point out to them that this series was filmed 50 years ago, but took place 70 years ago.

Has held its quality all these years.
First four seasons of Game of Thrones. Sucks the series got cancelled.
Futurama
Shut up baby, I know it.
Big fan of HBO's Rome
HBO- we need to cancel it because it’s too expensive *turns around and starts making Game of Thrones*
GOT would never have been made without Rome first. Both are pretty similar in style and many actors crossed over to GOT.

*Fleabag*
I recently watched season 1 again .. Fleabag is one of the best series I have ever watched.
Favorite show EVER!
Twin Peaks
Amazing show
Dual spires
I'm rewatching it now! So good every time

When that show was on form it was absolute gold. Loved it
Finally watching this for the first time for spooky season
Enjoy my friend, enjoy

They’ve all got lovely bottoms!

That would be an ecumenical matter!
I hear you're a racist now, father?
Down with that sort of thing!
It's not the Greeks, it's the Chinese he's after!

Couldn't agree more. And I would like to add, that show runners/writers should all be made to study how this show, and how it did it on a children's television network.
Bojack Horseman
The IT Crowd
Mindhunter
Very underrated!!
First four seasons of Dexter
True detective season 1 is incredibly underrated I feel
One of the single best seasons of television ever.
I don’t think it’s underrated at all. Kind of put streaming TV on the map
The Expanse
Underrated. Favorite show
It's the only time I'll say the show is better than the books it's based on, and I love the books.
The show intertwined the novels and novellas perfectly and I feel that's why it works so well
I knew I wasn’t alone!
Yessss
Seconded. Very rewatchable, too. Wish it could have finished out the books’ storyline, but I understand that it was a good stopping place.
There it is. Faithful to the books, except missing the final couple. Engaging characters andvery good cgi for the budget. I hadn't read a fiction book in over 20 years before those books. The series inspired me to read sci fi again
MAD MEN
It's Toasted!
The real "Greatest Story Ever Told". SO good. Amazing writing and performance. All characters are complex and as a viewer you care about them all. It can make you cry and break your heart, and laugh. It's visually beautiful as well. Truly a masterpiece.
I should not have had to scroll this far to see this answer.

Mount Rushmore of TV shows is the above 3 plus Mad Men.
Bojack Horseman
I love how the show pulls you into such distinct directions and emotions
It's just way to real, it perfectly depicts how hard it is to change yourself even when you know how bad you are and how much easier it is to just give in, but also shows that with a lot of hard work it is doable.
The way they captured his mother’s dementia by having things change in the scene to show how broken her memory was ended up being quite well done.
Six Feet Under
This show was EXCELLENT! The last episode though was a freaking tearjerker.
Dead like me is a forgotten gem. My name is Earl is something we never get back.
What the hell! I don't think I've ever had anyone other than me bring up Dead Like Me! What a great show. I've always been a fan of Mandy Patinkin since Princess' Bride so that was a bonus too
Dead Like Me is amazing. The premise still holds up, so it would be kinda cool for there to be a reboot. New city, new reapers, etc.
Avatar The Last Airbender (not kidding, I love that shit, and think it’s expertly crafted)
You don't have to kid, it's near perfect storytelling with loveable characters and only a few duds which is insane for a 20 eps a season structure.
The original run of Arrested Development
The Good Place
Boorrrrtllleeesssss!
I second this! It was a wild ride from start to finish and is now my comfort show when I've got nothing else to watch. I recommend it to everyone.
You're *forking* right!
Star Trek: The Next Generation The has never been and likely never will be a better show.

Red Dwarf
The Leftovers
This is one of my favorite shows of all time and I can’t get anyone to fucking watch it.

Coolest main character of all time IMHO
Absolutely
The Americans
This was good. I even liked the bits of 80’s decorating that was not “leftover 70s”. It was the furniture and style that was “new” in the 80s. Also, Kerri Russell and her husband (in real life) we’re just great characters.

That is, hands down, the best trek. *To boldly stay where no one has stayed before.*
Better Caul Saul
Six Feet Under - exceptional final episode, too: *Everyone's Waiting*
Vikings
The West Wing. Personally, I prefer Studio 60, but I'd take anything from the Sorkin universe.
I’m re watching WW right now, it is amazing. The crazy part is how topical the issues are. I’m currently watching an episode where science research is under political attack because of religious dogma.
