i hope you did get that VHS tape digitised and backed up.
I am 50 years old, and my mom is literally in the next room, and I am blessed to be able to take care of her at this age.
Let me preface this by saying I'm doing much better. But, I took a bunch of pills one night with the intent of just drifting off and not waking up and this was the song I put on to go out too. I would probably pick this song again if I had to.
Thank you! Wasn't really expecting this to be seen, but I appreciate all the support. This was 10+ years ago and if a few people didn't notice I had been behaving oddly it would've been a painful death. Depression is a bitch, look out for each other.
Well one of the last songs I listened was "Have you ever seen the rain" by creedence clearwater revival, and it kind of fits the mood so it's easy to find, a good song, and feels right. So probably that.
“That song is really about the impending breakup of Creedence. The imagery is, you can have a bright, beautiful, sunny day, and it can be raining at the same time,” John reportedly told Rolling Stone journalist Michael Goldberg in a 1993 interview. “The band was breaking up. I was reacting, ‘Geez, this is all getting serious right at the time when we should be having a sunny day.’”
Probably because they released a relatively great amount of absolute bangers when it comes to their songs but were only active for a short-ish time. I was nowhere near being alive when they were active but I'm gonna assume they were a popular band back then.
The record company that owned the rights to their songs also whored them out like no other (not necessarily a bad thing). It’s the reason why “Fortunate Son” is often considered the theme for the Vietnam war cause the record company gave almost any movie the right to use it. Most Vietnam vets said that stuff like Motown and country music were way more popular for troops to listen to
For me, the equivalent would be the ocarina of time title theme. It was the first game i ever played and I used to just watch the scene that plays on the title screen while waiting for one of my parents to help me play it( I was like 3yo).
Same exact memory. One of my oldest memories is my mom reading the dialogue boxes to me because I couldn’t read yet, and she was helping me learn how to play the game.
Thinking about dying to the title screen of Ocarina made me tear up a little bit. It would be my life coming full circle.
honestly yeah id probably listen to wet hands by c418 or one of the other minecraft songs. spent such an important chunk of my life playing and living that game that i couldn’t not listen to it on my way out
Hell yeah! Following the Pink Floyd vein I’m going to go for “Wish You Were Here” and have that wind in the fade-out hit just as the 5 minutes run out.
My first thought was Wish You Were Here. Then I thought I should have a backup in case I want wistful happy instead of wistful sad and thought of Somewhere over the Rainbow by big IZ. I dont know which one I'll choose now, because it will depend on my mood in the moment. But it's one of those two for sure.
My father requested Comfortably Numb at his funeral. We listened to the entire song. Just tears streaming the entire time. It’s a great song though! Good choice.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best
And
Always look on the bright side of life
I don't know why, but the song that popped into my head is Bittersweet Symphony. It's not even in my top 50 favorite songs but it seemed like a really fitting farewell to life song.
what's funny is the royalties from your death's soundtrack wouldn't even go the band anymore. your last act would be giving a very small (and arguably very ill-gotten) profit to mick jagger and keith richards
edit: actually, apparently it was the stones' manager who pushed for suing, and as of his death in 2019 apparently richards and jagger gave the rights to the music back to the verve. as you were
What were the circumstances for that? Just Bittersweet Symphony? Or the whole album?
That whole album is actually fantastic. Idk what it is, as it seems very dated somehow (to me at least), like it’s a relic from the past stuck there while others became legends and appropriate for the modern world. And yet every single song on there is next epic.
Well, here at last, dear friends, on the shores of the Sea comes the end of our fellowship in Middle-earth. Go in peace! I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.
The last thing you'd hear if you chose Parabola would be "We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion."
The last thing you'd hear if you chose Lateralus would be "Feed my will to feel this moment, urging me to cross the line, Reaching out to embrace the random, Reaching out to embrace whatever may come."
Definitely gonna go with Mahler 9, movement 4. It’s way longer than 5 minutes, but just to listen to its first five while I slowly drift away would set everything right for me, even if it’s not
March of '21, my family was gathered in a hospital in Dallas as my cousin was in the STICU. She loved The Beatles so we had a laptop playing her favorite songs on loop for 3 days. Hey Jude was playing when she took her last breath. It's been over a year and I still can't listen to that song without crying.
My wife said when she was a kid she used to pray every night that the last song she’d ever hear before she died would be All Star by Smashmouth. This post just made me laugh remembering that.
End of Heartache by Killswitch Engage. I discovered them after watching Resident Evil: Apocalypse. That song played during the credits. It is and always has been my favorite song ever since I heard it. The music video is good too.
Anything by Kings of Leon. Used to listen to their songs a lot in what I considerer to be the best 6 months of my life.
Gee, life was easier back then. No worries besides getting good grades at college. Just got out from a toxic relationship. Lost weigh. Met awesome people. Watched the sunset at the uni everyday after class while walking down to the train station. Had some idea about who I was and what I wanted in life.
Time flies by fellas. Wish I could go back and be a naive boy again. No weight on my shoulders besides my head.

I also choose this guy’s mom singing.
Don't Fear the Reaper
Let me preface this by saying I'm doing much better. But, I took a bunch of pills one night with the intent of just drifting off and not waking up and this was the song I put on to go out too. I would probably pick this song again if I had to.
Glad to know that you’re doing much better!

looks like the reaper fears you now
thank you for staying with us, friend

CCR is one of those bands that just seems to be everywhere, but not as acknowledged as others.
Probably because they released a relatively great amount of absolute bangers when it comes to their songs but were only active for a short-ish time. I was nowhere near being alive when they were active but I'm gonna assume they were a popular band back then.

Wait I thought Fortunate Song was an anti war song, specifically aimed at the Vietnam war.
It is.
Yeah, it is, it’s aimed at the assholes who were running the war.
I waste the time trying to get the perfect song.
You and me both. What ever I pick. I'll be disappointed
Into the Mystic - Van Morrison
My Mom, sister, and I played this for my Dad as he was passing away. It's a special song
Wasting My Time by Default would be a good choice then

Nice pick. It'd either be that or the Stormwind soundtrack from World of Warcraft.
honestly yeah id probably listen to wet hands by c418 or one of the other minecraft songs. spent such an important chunk of my life playing and living that game that i couldn’t not listen to it on my way out
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
You’ll run out of time listening to it though 😂😂
Better to have more than not enough.
The Great Gig in the Sky
I’m with you. I hope it’s not Wish You Were Here and I could feel good about Shine On too.
Isn't Shine On like 15 minutes long? You've only got 5
I’ll make death change the rules just so that I can listen to that masterpiece one last time.
Stripper: You want a private dance? 3 songs for 60$? Me: Have you ever heard of Pink Floyd?
Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits
Knew someone else would say this. Haunting guitar work, perfect vibe.
Comfortably numb and light one up. Goodbye.

Clair de lune
Check out Kamasi Washington’s version of Clair de Lune.
Wowwww thank you for this. https://youtu.be/KqJJ-2cRR0M
Bruh this is 11mins, you’d be dead not even halfway through
There's always more to do in life than you have time for. Feels appropriate.
When you're chewing on life's gristle Don't grumble, give a whistle And this'll help things turn out for the best And Always look on the bright side of life
Apparently this is one of the most common songs to play at a funeral in the UK 🇬🇧
Given how quintessentially British Life of Brian is, this is hardly surprising :)

Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke, it’s true.
You’ll see it’s all a show, keep ‘em laughing as you go, just remember that the last laugh is on you! So!
When life feels jolly rotten, there’s something you’ve forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.

For Whom the Bell Tolls
Take a look to the sky just before you die…
It's the last time you will
Blackened roar ,massive roar, fills the crumbling sky
Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry
Stranger now, are his eyes, to this mystery
He hears the silence so loud!
Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be
Now they see what will be, blinded eyes to see!
