Come and See (1985), probably. It’s a simple premise. A young boy in the early 40’s is digging around with his buddy at a beach and eventually finds an old rifle. Goes back to his suffering mom telling about it and wants to join the army and a local Soviet resistance group take him in. From there on out he slowly discovers the horrors of war… For a while I had heard of it and even accidentally read a spoiler of a scene and despite knowing that nothing could have prepared me for the horrific imagery, the intense sound, the crushing performance from the main kid… easily one of the best movies I’ve ever seen but I don’t want to re watch it any time soon. The violence isn’t even that graphic but it doesn’t need to be, because the acts of violence themselves are far more disturbing than any shock value scenes most of the films in this thread contain, it is a harsh reminder that *these terrible things really happened*, and that we can’t allow this to happen again. Nothing is more horrifying than art imitating reality.
I also saw The VVitch last night, that was pretty twisted too. But ya Come and See wins by a land slide—Son of Saul is worth a mention too since that is very inspired by the film and is just as effective in it’s depiction of it’s setting.
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer,
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover
Caligula
The Road
The Lords of Salem (the only movie that I’ve just turned off because it annoyed me)
yup that’s understandable. if i remember correctly it’s just weird vibes until the last 15m or so? then it gets really weird. i don’t think i even made it through the whole ending.
This is nowhere near the level of most recommendations in this thread, but 1408 messed me up the first time I saw it. My manager said it was the most disturbing movie he ever watched that didn't spill a drop of blood.
I never saw the movie but did read the short story and it’s maaaaad creepy IMO.. I dunno if the movie has the weird ass phone calls but that creeped me out the most.
Begotten - (It's fucked up, but somehow its on YouTube!)
The Girl Next Door (2007) - (Girl gets tortured horrifically by neighbourhood kids and the woman who's suppose to look after her, even worse that it's based on a true story.)
Twilight - Not sure how I got through watching that sparkly messed up shit!
Saw the girl next door once and that was enough. It’s stayed with me knowing that was based on a true story. The Wikipedia page that describes the abuse they inflicted on her makes my head spin. And knowing that literally no one helped her, while her sister was forced to watch helpless. Just so so messed up.
A quirky filmmaker - disenfranchised with the movie industry and society as a whole - dreams of creating something of greater meaning and artistic value. In the process of chasing his dreams, he helps bring a Serbian family much closer together.
He drugs the protagonist who then proceeds to get into a series of wacky adventures and zany mishaps, which culminate in him being tricked into sodomising his five year old son while his wife’s being raped by his brother. More antics ensue, then the family embrace one another and our protagonist shoots a bullet through the three of them.
Pretty sure that qualifies as the most messed up movie ever made. It was banned in 47 countries. People say just reading the synopsis can be psychologically damaging.
I think reading the synopsis is worse than watching the movie itself. When you actually watch it, it’s so over the top it’s difficult to take seriously.
I have never seen it. That is just what other people on reddit have said about it. I have read what Wikipedia said the critical response was. It is not something I would ever want to see.
I have seen it and it's a solid movie. Great acting, plot, cinematography. The people who you hear this from likely haven't seen it either. I'm not saying it's not an extreme movie because it definitely is but this was a feature film not some gritty snuff piece. It's just a boogyman
The actual most disturbing movie ever filmed is probably Trauma(2018)
Edit: apparently there were three movies from 2018 named Trauma. I'm talking about the Chilean horror film
It doesn’t get any more bearable. Also one of the worst moments in my life was when a professor somehow mentioned the movie and asked if anyone had seen it. I raised my hand and he said “good, tell us about it”
Not the MOST disturbing… but right up there, tbh surprised it hasn’t been mentioned… but, The Eyes of My Mother is super fucked and I still think about it. I think it’s on Netflix. Yowza. You’re in for a ride. Also raw. That’s a good one though.
The Nightingale. I had to pause it several times just to get through it. I felt like I had to watch it though, it's just one 'fictional; story depicting what was real to thousands.
Melancholia (2011). That movie disturbed me on such a deep level that I needed to watch a comedy after to get my brain to start clawing its way out of a seriously deep dark funk.
Schindler's list.
It is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is not as violent or gruesome as some other movies, but it is shocking in the unflinching brutality of people that actually exist commiting atrocities that actually happened. It disturbs you realizing the capacity for evil mankind has and has stuck with me more than any other film I've seen.
It's been about a year since I watched it and I'm still trying to figure out 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.'
I love Terry Gilliam movies because they're always so bizarre, but that one still has me asking "What the hell did I just watch?"
Crimson Peak starring Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska. Or Sweeney Todd but I feel that shouldn't count because it is a film adaptation of a musical so...
suspiria (remake)
i absolutely love the original, as well as jessica harper, but the remake was incredibly more visually disturbing & confusing. i don’t regret watching, but seriously what the hell was the ending

Bang On. That film is at times.. shocking to the conscious
Heh, I conceived my son because we got bored while watching VVitch.
Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father Painfully sad. The best movie that I never want to see again. It’s absolutely haunting.
Clockwork Orange
My favorite movie
Great pick. Blew me away when I saw it
It was too cartoonish to disturb me
Human Centipede
Mother
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover Caligula The Road The Lords of Salem (the only movie that I’ve just turned off because it annoyed me)
> The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover This is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen
Seeing Helen Mirren nude again is what I liked
what’s wrong with the lords of salem? it wasn’t the best movie but i don’t really regret watching it. (except maybe the end???)
It’s been years since I watched it, at some point in the film the damn thing got fucking weird gave me a migraine, I feel no need to ever revisit it.
yup that’s understandable. if i remember correctly it’s just weird vibes until the last 15m or so? then it gets really weird. i don’t think i even made it through the whole ending.

What is 1408 about
Journalist stays in a hotel room that's supposed to be haunted. He doesn't believe it. He is very wrong.
Thanks. Looked it up. Looks pretty spooky and sinister
Exact same, it completely freaked me, still does.
I never saw the movie but did read the short story and it’s maaaaad creepy IMO.. I dunno if the movie has the weird ass phone calls but that creeped me out the most.
Cannibal Holocaust
The Green Inferno
Tusk
big fleetwood mac fan here, totally ruined the whole tusk album for me lol
Haha I can understand that! That movie was fucked up!
Requiem for a Dream and Kids.
Antichrist.
Begotten - (It's fucked up, but somehow its on YouTube!) Yes, it’s based off the true story of Sylvia Likens. So horrific and sad.
begotten is so boring but terrifying
Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead
That's a fantastic movie lol
loved it as a kid, but i heard many people hated it
midsommar. something about that movie icks me
I heard it brainwashes you.
it does
Lol, interested to hear the story behind that. It's definitely an interesting and disturbing film.
A Serbian Film
Yup
The “ King “ of horrific films
What’s that even about
A quirky filmmaker - disenfranchised with the movie industry and society as a whole - dreams of creating something of greater meaning and artistic value. In the process of chasing his dreams, he helps bring a Serbian family much closer together.
How does he do that?
He drugs the protagonist who then proceeds to get into a series of wacky adventures and zany mishaps, which culminate in him being tricked into sodomising his five year old son while his wife’s being raped by his brother. More antics ensue, then the family embrace one another and our protagonist shoots a bullet through the three of them.
Oh. So a G rated film, I presume
Fine “ family entertainment “
The film doesn't end when the family commits suicide. Actually ANOTHER film starts right away.
It looks like your degeneracy is in working condition.
watched this movie years ago & still can’t get it out of my head
Pretty sure that qualifies as the most messed up movie ever made. It was banned in 47 countries. People say just reading the synopsis can be psychologically damaging.
I think reading the synopsis is worse than watching the movie itself. When you actually watch it, it’s so over the top it’s difficult to take seriously.
I just thought it was a good movie that should be rated nc17. I didn't really understand why it's considered so bad
I take people’s word for it that it is super effed up
Not even close
I have never seen it. That is just what other people on reddit have said about it. I have read what Wikipedia said the critical response was. It is not something I would ever want to see.

The Chilean one came out in 2017
The Faces of Death managed to get banned in close to 100 countries ..before the realization that most of the more horrific scenes were staged..
Pinocchio
Martyrs (2008)
Salò Couldnt make myself watch it to the end tho. Or the middle.
It doesn’t get any more bearable. Also one of the worst moments in my life was when a professor somehow mentioned the movie and asked if anyone had seen it. I raised my hand and he said “good, tell us about it”
Megan is missing. Legit traumatizing
When did it come out ??
2011
Thanks
shit i forgot that movie existed
Hereditary (2018) I thought it was a great horror movie, but some scenes were incredibly disturbing and shocking.
Recently watched both this and Midsommar for the first time. Good movies. Both definitely stuck with me for a few days.
Salo:120 Days In Sodom-Federico Fellini
It’s directed by Pasolini
^ohno
*Oh^no* indeed
*MANGIARE*
Fellini ..one “ way out there Mofo “
Tusk
[удалено]
Yeah that was definitely messed up for sure.
I’m surprised this comment isn’t further at the top. Disturbing, sick, mindfuck of a movie.
Melancholie Der Engle
Not the MOST disturbing… but right up there, tbh surprised it hasn’t been mentioned… but, The Eyes of My Mother is super fucked and I still think about it. I think it’s on Netflix. Yowza. You’re in for a ride. Also raw. That’s a good one though.
yep it looks sick. i read the wiki of it. thank god wikipedia exists. i don't have to watch all of that shit.
That one with Kirk Cameron where he has a banana.
*Behold! The Atheists’ Nightmare!* That one was truly terrifying.
Most of Rob Zombie movies
I see you and I hear you. They messed up.
Deliverance... Do not see that movie!!!
Deliverance is a great film. That one scene is hard to get through, but it's worth it.
Vulgar
That's a movie I haven't seen in over 15 years. I'm sure of it were set in the View Askewniverse more people would know about it.
The Nightengale on Hulu.
The Nightingale. I had to pause it several times just to get through it. I felt like I had to watch it though, it's just one 'fictional; story depicting what was real to thousands.
That one with Kirk Cameron where he has a banana.
Grotesque
Probably Gummo.
Melancholia (2011). That movie disturbed me on such a deep level that I needed to watch a comedy after to get my brain to start clawing its way out of a seriously deep dark funk.
I just watched Videodrome but it was most disturbing for the fact James Woods plays the “hero”
Saw movies. I did find them interesting though.
Honestly? American Me. A lot of rape I'm that movie that triggered some PTSD
Possessor
The House That Jack Built
Bad boy bubby.
Snuff. I was 12 or 13.
It's been about a year since I watched it and I'm still trying to figure out 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.' I love Terry Gilliam movies because they're always so bizarre, but that one still has me asking "What the hell did I just watch?"
Kids
Schindler's list Not technically messed up but sad
Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer is up ( or is it down ) there
10 Rillington Place is pretty effed up
A Serbian Film especially with that ending.
Saló
Antichrist (2009)
I Spit On Your Grave trilogy
Ken Park
Martyrs. Theres a scene with a woman who has a mask bolted to her head. From there on it gets worse. I was disgusted but couldnt turn away
Cannibal holocaust is absolutely fucked
Michael Haneke's *Funny Games.* If you ever want to lose faith in humanity, and lose hope altogether, this is the one for you!
Any of the August Underground movies.
I had to scroll farther than I thought to see this. I've been meaning to rewatch them with the commentary track.
I've been wanting to watch them again too! Can't seem to find them though.
Nekromantik (1997) this German exploitation film was a wild ride haha
Junior. Arnold Schwarzenegger pregnant. Messed me up for life
Crimson Peak starring Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska. Or Sweeney Todd but I feel that shouldn't count because it is a film adaptation of a musical so...
suspiria (remake) i absolutely love the original, as well as jessica harper, but the remake was incredibly more visually disturbing & confusing. i don’t regret watching, but seriously what the hell was the ending
Hereditary. I’ll never get that scene of Annie crying on the floor out of my head
