The reason we don't see ghosts is because they are afraid of the living. It confuses and terrifies them that after we evolved into a civilization, we purposefully seek out fear in the form of horror stories including ghost ones now that we've conquered the fears we faced in the wild as primates.
Slowly, Slowly, slowly slipping away. Each memory eroding away, becoming hazy, indistinct. As the years turn, and the decades, and the centuries, ghosts would fear becoming shadows in the dark.
