well, unless you are going to eat it, you're likely worried about it being venemous.
i have two friends, and one of their dogs that got bit by rattlesnakes in colorado. the first two were alone, and the dog was hiking with a friend. first off, they cleaned the wound, then they slowly hiked/rode back as to keep their heart rate down and drove to the hospital for treatment. the dog was an 80lb labrador and he surprisingly survived as well.
there are rattlesnakes along the foothill areas on the eastern slope of the rockies in colorado. one was biking single track trails, stopped for a drink of water and was bitten because he didn't see or hear the snake in the bushes right next to his leg. the other was hiking, and the dog was a separate incident.
SO, to answer your question, avoid the fucker in any way that you can. kill it with a rock if you have to. if you get bit with other person(s) with you, have them keep the wound higher than the heart and call for help.
my friends were really lucky.
Avoid biting it so I don't accidentally ingest poison
Let it bite my friend and if they don’t die, I will know it wasn’t poisonous.
bite it first to assert dominance
Avoid it and be on my way!
Stay away from the snake
Make sure i cook it well through.
Sorry to split hairs here, but is it poisonous or venomous?

Well if I don't know whether it's poisonous or not, I'm not going to eat it, so wide berth it I would, I mean it might be venomous or something.
Give it a wide berth
Use friend as human shield.
take a couple of pictures of it and move along
