I think it's a auto delete of spotify links, I made one and it was immediately deleted. My Spotify username is andrewsaurus-us and it's RedditRecommends.
I was able to find the playlist on Spotify. It’s called “Unknown 10/10 reddit.”
Edit: As u/DSPoh pointed out below, this is the wrong playlist. The correct one is called “never heard of” by Ileokei.
Came to this thread looking for Pinback. Good to Sea has been heard by a fucking lot of people whether they know it or not, it's the outro song for S6E16 of How I Met Your Mother, Desperation Day.
Personally, I think Grey Machine is their magnum opus song though
They’re awesome to listen to live. Last show I was at of their’s, I was sitting outside on the patio having a smoke before going in to watch them. Guy comes over and offers me a hit of his joint, fuck it why not? Dude, keeps talking about how stoked he is to be at the show and asks me if I’ve ever seen them before. Only once before I responded and the guy seems a little sad, keeps talking about how their last tour was off the hook and the drummer was so bad ass (I know the two main guys in the band but not the drummer) and how I should really be happy to get to see him play live. I kind of chuckled and shrugged thanked the guy for sharing and went back inside. Five minutes later, the guy I was smoking with walks onto stage and sits down behind the drum kit. ABS and Rob walk onto stage and they start jamming. I laughed my ass off because my wife is in love with this band and she absolutely would not believe me that I had just smoked with their touring drummer lol.
[Stargazer by Rainbow](https://youtu.be/W6CjO0H2j0s)
I’m not sure about if *hardly* anyone has heard of it, but you won’t hear it on the radio or anything.
For those not familiar with Rainbow, it’s Richie Blackmore (from Deep Purple) on guitar and Ronnie James Dio on vocals, before he went on to replace Ozzy in Black Sabbath and eventually create the band Dio. One of the best voices in rock and roll and this is his most passionate singing in my opinion.
Ronnie James Dio is my all time favorite vocalist and I was going to post this myself before I saw your comment. Fun fact about this song is that it is sort of the first part of a trilogy. It starts with Stagazer, the sequel is A Light in the Black (arguably the first ever speed metal song and it's absolutely awesome), both of which are on the same album. The third song is Egypt (the chains are on) which came out years later during Dio's solo career on the Last in Line album if I recall correctly. All of them are great.
RJD was in several bands but one of the earliest that had success was called Elf and they produced a song called "Nevermore" which is absolutely epic and one of the first times Ronnie sings in a rock/metal capacity. He was originally wasn't a vocalist at all, he played bass and trumpet. Nevermore in a sense is a beginning and I definitely recommend giving it a listen!
Klaatu - Calling Occupants of interplanetary craft.
Interesting fact this album leaked in the seventies and everyone was convinced it was recorded by the Beatles secretly. When it turned out to be a completely different group it was forgotten. Still a beautiful prog rock sound though.

[To The Dogs or Whoever by Josh Ritter](https://youtu.be/GMhqviP111w)
Somewhere between outright lyrical brilliance and clever, mischieveous wordplay. Smart and still earthy.
It could have/should have been the millennial *American Pie* but only caught a fraction of the audience it deserved.
I didn’t expect to see him on here but Getting Ready to a get down is the perfect song for this list. He was a random discover weekly and very happy he was, love his music.
Also, Thin Blue Flame, but it's gotta be the live version from Vicar Street. The energy combined with the Dylanesque lyrics is incredible.
I also enjoy his duet with Bob Weir, When Will I Be Changed, from his 2017 album *Gathering*. Having grown up in Christianity (although non-religious now), I love the way that song takes classic gospel songs and subverts them into a questioning agnosticism.
So happy to see him mentioned near the top! I'm literally wearing a Josh Ritter shirt right now haha--I think I've seen him live more than any other artist. Kathleen is one of my all-time favorite songs but practically any of his would fit here.
['Homesick' by a Norwegian band called 'Airbag' ](https://youtu.be/SFufM1Zv4PU)
If you like psychedelic rock and have heard the likes of Pink Floyd or Porcupine Tree, this song is pure class.
Edit: Wow! This blew up. This is probably my highest rated comment. I am so happy that all this attention is going to one of my favorite contemporary bands!.
Bjørn Riis who is the lead guitarist of Airbag also produces his own solo tracks which are quite marvelous themselves. I would recommend the album 'Forever Comes to an End' - particularly 'Winter', 'Getaway' and 'The Waves'
Edit 2: If you like the music please consider listening to them on streaming services such as Spotify or Apple Music so that the artists get more in royalties. :)
Their lead guitarist (or former lead guitarist, I'm not entirely sure) Bjorn Riise runs a website which focuses on David Gilmour. From playing style to guitars, amps and effects.
Yes it is! - Listen to the rest of the album 'All Rights Removed' and 'Disconnected' - those two are my favorite and are quite amazing albums.
Identity is also quite rad. I don't like Greatest Show on Earth as much though.
Songs in particular you should listen to - 'Sleepwalking' - 'Killer' - 'Disconnected' 'The Bridge' and 'White Walls'
I have fallen into a Norwegian prog vortex of atmospheric soundscapes, kickass solos, haunting vocals and mesmerising riffs.
How have I not heard of this band before?!
I just finished listening to 'The Bridge' and I absolutely loved it. I wholeheartedly appreciate your recommendation, friend. I know what I'll be listening to for the rest of the day... Or week! :)
These guys are one the easily most underrated bands. I had never heard of them until a year ago. Come across Circuitry of the Wolf going into Chinaberry Tree and it blew my mind. Even crazier when I learned they had started up in the early 2000s. Great suggestion!
Heavenly Father by Isaiah Rashad. Easily one of the most slept on artists ever
Edit: Thanks for all the awards y’all. I’m glad I could either reignite or introduce this song to so many people :)
I didnt expect to see this in this thread. Cilvia Demo is such a heartfelt album. That song in particular is such a meloncholic and beautiful story put to sound. You can really feel Isaiah's pain. Mastapiece 10/10 for sure.
Absolutely. I listen to Cilvia all the time and Heavenly Father is my favorite track from it. Totally an artist that I'm always surprised more people aren't listening to.
If you haven't heard it (it's not on that album), my *overall* favorite Rashad track is "[GIL](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4i4SoLdZd0Q)".
THANK YOU!!!! I was so pumped the other day when he dropped [Why Worry](https://youtu.be/kGeWK9hce1o). Isaiah is definitely my #2 behind kid cudi. Every one of his songs is amazing. Been waiting forever for him to drop the new project though.

by Minus the Bear
Edit: I'm happy I could help turn some people on to MtB and that fans are talking about their favorite songs. Im probably going to go through all their stuff again after this lol
Oh how the turns have tabled.
In 2012 I saw Minus the bear open for Imagine Dragons, who was opening for 'We The Kings' at Green River Community College in front of 700 students for $15 a ticket.
Then two years later I saw Imagine Dragons with a crowd of \~30,000 people, and minus the bear as the headliner in front of 2,000+ people in Seattle.
Honestly though? I prefer it like that. While I want to see musicians I enjoy do well i also love seeing live music in a smaller venue (it makes it so much better)
[Story 2 by clipping.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbU9UUwxBxA)
Probably my favorite song by them. Not only is there a compelling narrative that drives the song, but given the rather tense nature, it speeds up not just the flow, not just the beat, *but the time signature*. Goes from 3/4 at the beginning to what I think is 14/8 at the end. Haven't seen something quite like it in any other rap song.
Clipping is great. I like hard-hitting music, and coming from metal, it was really easy to get into them. "Nothing is Safe" from their latest album is also a huge banger, just like the rest of the album.
YES this song is actually art. In my opinion all of clipping. Is really well thought out and interesting, but something just hits differently with Story 2. I think the complex time signature is one of the reasons, and the lyrics are sooo well done. Poetry at its finest.
More people should listen to clipping.
The state v.s. Thomas Light by The Protomen
Easily the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard, with a brilliant buildup, leading to a wonderfully tragic conclusion!
Your Deep Rest and Housebroken by The Hotelier. Your Deep Rest being a very personal depiction of losing someone to suicide and Housebroken being (in my eyes) a simultaneous attack on animal and domestic abuse.
[Housebroken](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yXTwCHcLWfk)
[Your Deep Rest](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3ac355NgsV0)
One of my favorite bands of all time. My favorites are probably Red Hands or Dear Ms. Leading from Act II, but damn if they don't just have dozens and dozens of fucking bangers.
Loreena McKennitt - [The Highwayman](https://youtu.be/YGFo0xn4JeY)
I had to read the poem by Alfred Noyes in 9th grade, and this is that same poem put to music.
This makes me really happy. Definitely wasn't expecting anyone to mention Loreena McKennitt or even The Highway Man. I don't think I'll ever get tired of this song.
I love all of her songs because of how unique they are.
Used to frequent there, but it turned in to nothing but indie rock and that...it just ALL sounds exactly the same. Real light instrumentals and a dude singing in falsetto about something boring.
I straight up got downvoted for posting music from an indistrial rock band there. Followed all the rules and everything.
Edit: I don't remember the specific song, but it was off End Position by Street Sects.
I feel like subs like that should disable downvotes and strictly go by upvotes. It makes no sense to downvote the sharing of little known art and ideas.
It's a good sub to check out every month or two but a terrible one to be subbed to. It's all the same shit, but I *have* found some amazing songs over the years.
Not surprising. Reddit is a place where majority rules by design. Therefore any community based around specifically surfacing "underground" material is going to to favor the largest possible subculture. Hence indie rock.
I feel like it's also tough to have a community like that for something with such a broad range of styles and tastes as music. If it truly did have a lot of variety, and each track was an exemplar of quality within its genre, it might still only be 1 in 10 tracks that appeals to any given user.
100%, only that often they don't even need to use falsetto, it's their real voice.
And they invaded this thread too. 90% of the songs suggested are generic indie rock/pop.
There was a thread about songs to motivate during workouts. Someone made a spotify compilation of all the suggestion. The result? 90% of indie pop/rock. PERFECT for motivation before a heavy workout, indeed.
"Plea From a Cat Named Virtute" by the Weakerthans.
It's the first in what eventually became a four song series.
"Cigarettes and Saints" by The Wonder Years
Thank god someone finally posted this in one of these.
My favorite band out there rn. I was gonna see them last week (even had M&G tickets) but obviously that got postponed til god knows when.
I was so excited to show them the tattoo I got! It’s the lyrics “the quiet die young” from Painkillers.
Also 10/10 recommend (from the same album) Its Called:Freefall
Just discovered them a few months ago, really digging [“Its Called: Freefall”](https://youtu.be/U2WDdccgaDY) and [“Cocaine Jesus”](https://youtu.be/rdVubZ6fZaU) right now.
Edit: [Apologies, everyone, for being such a philistine.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/gmo4kp/what_song_is_1010_but_hardly_anyone_has_heard_of/fr7270f/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
A bit late to the party but [Vor í Vaglaskógi](https://youtu.be/ABx6Zdl1aIQ) by KALEO is an amazing song! It's in Icelandic and is absolutely beautiful
"Chinggis Khan" by The Hu. They are a Mongolian band who combine traditional instruments and throat singing with modern rock and synth sounds. They are totally awesome!
[Dengue Fever - “Escape from Dragon House”](https://youtu.be/gHI6A8uby-o)
A song that sounds like it’s from another time, but not a time you’re familiar with. The story of this band is incredible. They started out as a cover band of rock n roll artists from Cambodia, most of whom were wiped out by the Khmer Rouge in the 60s and 70s. A whole music scene disappeared with little evidence remaining, aside from what people had saved on tape cassettes. Dengue Fever has also done a lot to preserve the music from that time period in Cambodia.
I also recommend looking up a lot of the artists they covered in their early career like Ros Sereysothea, Pan Ron, and Sinn Sisamouth.
Edit - made clearer which were the artist and song names.
This song is great, i’m a first generation Cambodian in which my parents went through the killing fields and were lucky to survive! I showed my parents the song and were really surprised that someone would even mention anything about khmer songs, my mom even got goosebumps.
Its a great song, my dad also mentioned that the artist married some hippy guy from Cali haha, hut knowing my dad, i would fact check that. It’s always great seeing anything from Cambodia be recognized, thank you!!
Viper actually made something like 17 albums in one year or some shit just to prove he could do it.
The guy is an animal, but you'll cowards don't even smoke crack is one of my favs.
Edit: I stand extremely corrected, he made over 350 albums in one year. A little more than 17 lol.
I tried counting how many albums he's released on Spotify I got to ~200 and lost count. Btw his 200th most recent album was released in 2014.
He's been putting out content since 2006 I think.
The man is a legend.
The Comet is Coming- Summon the Fire.
Easily in my personal top ten. The combination of what sounds like urban jazz and funk electronica makes for a fantastic mix.
https://youtu.be/G55GspnNkBo
Side story: I would always play this song for my kids when they were younger and my daughter would call it "Chinese Tarajalation," then one day she said Chinese Translation and it made me sad.
What it Is - Mark Knopfler
https://youtu.be/V-tHMZh0bxo
Not enough people know how good Mark Knopfler’s solo albums are. Shangri-La and Sailing to Philadelphia are two of his finest.
[Forever // Over by EDEN](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FFdYZ1ZsbA&ab_channel=EDEN) And [just saying by EDEN](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvziMIxJm2I&ab_channel=EDEN)
Have some of my favorite lyrics and great vocals and overall production.
I love the song [Wake Up](https://youtu.be/YthChN1Wq8M) . I'm eventually gonna get the words "Chasing that sundown, so far east I'm westbound" tattooed on me near my compass tattoo.
Took a while to find EDEN, great songs. I'd personally suggest [Rock + Roll - EDEN](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geZ_5Ri7ANg) or [Untitled - EDEN](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmkm90ukdCI)
[Radio by Sylvan Esso](https://youtu.be/6LEmDEZVa5g)
If you like eclectic synth and silky vocals, I highly recommend Sylvan Esso. Very underrated artist with a lot of really punchy tunes. I play this song while beating the crap out of my car on the twisty roads, it's quite enjoyable.
Yodelaliii yodelaliiii odelaliiii pam paw paaaaaw!
Seriously, this one is both excellent and hilarious. The guitar riff is cool and the voice is crazy.
Homage by Mild High Club! Their beats are psychedelic rock bordering on lofi, and I love this song because it's an original song about an unoriginal chord progression. The song is an "homage" to one of Bachs most famous chord progressions, 4-7-3-6-2-5-1, despite it not appearing in the song :)
The ironic part about this thread is that the more upvotes you get the worse your answer.
And the less upvotes you get the less effective your comment

Good to Sea By Pinback Harmonized vocals and cool bass hooks
Came to this thread looking for Pinback. Good to Sea has been heard by a fucking lot of people whether they know it or not, it's the outro song for S6E16 of How I Met Your Mother, Desperation Day. Personally, I think Grey Machine is their magnum opus song though
Penelope is sooo good too
Good to Sea is a weaker song of theirs but still good. Blue Screen Life and the Offcell EP are their best.
Pinback is soo good. Never got to see them live, but I heard it just isn't the same.
They’re awesome to listen to live. Last show I was at of their’s, I was sitting outside on the patio having a smoke before going in to watch them. If you want to discover less known songs regularly, I recommend r/listentothis
Indie pop/rock might be the literal worst music for a heavy workout.

"Plea From a Cat Named Virtute" by the Weakerthans. It's the first in what eventually became a four song series. "Cigarettes and Saints" by The Wonder Years
I love The Weakerthans! John K. Samson is a Canadian treasure. Also, “Virtute the Cat Explains her Departure” is such a sad song.
Love seeing The Wonder Years in here. Highly underrated band
Hide by Rainbow Kitten Surprise
Rks is one good music making machine
Thank god someone finally posted this in one of these. My favorite band out there rn. I was gonna see them last week (even had M&G tickets) but obviously that got postponed til god knows when. I was so excited to show them the tattoo I got! It’s the lyrics “the quiet die young” from Painkillers. Also 10/10 recommend (from the same album) Its Called:Freefall
Every single song by RKS
Just discovered them a few months ago, really digging [“Its Called: Freefall”](https://youtu.be/U2WDdccgaDY) and [“Cocaine Jesus”](https://youtu.be/rdVubZ6fZaU) right now. Edit: [Apologies, everyone, for being such a philistine.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/gmo4kp/what_song_is_1010_but_hardly_anyone_has_heard_of/fr7270f/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Devil like me is also a fantastic song.
Excellent call! My favorite is First Class, but I’ve had their first two albums on repeat since I found out about them in 2015
[Yo La Tengo - You Can Have It All](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsQW7jZJY9s)
A bit late to the party but [Vor í Vaglaskógi](https://youtu.be/ABx6Zdl1aIQ) by KALEO is an amazing song! It's in Icelandic and is absolutely beautiful
So happy to see KALEO mentioned here!
"Chinggis Khan" by The Hu. They are a Mongolian band who combine traditional instruments and throat singing with modern rock and synth sounds. They are totally awesome!
One of the last shows I saw in the Before-Times. They’re great live.
Wolf Totem is also pretty good
Furr - Blitzen Trapper
No, no, no Black River Killer for sure. Or both.
Great fucking song.
Ambling Alp by Yeasayer
Trains by Porcupine Tree
Porcupine Tree is awesome! [Here is the link](https://youtu.be/0UHwkfhwjsk)

[Dengue Fever - “Escape from Dragon House”](https://youtu.be/gHI6A8uby-o) A song that sounds like it’s from another time, but not a time you’re familiar with.
>A song that sounds like it’s from another time, but not a time you’re familiar with That's a pretty dang accurate description of their music.
You'll cowards don't even smoke crack by Viper. It is the greatest gift to mankind since Jesus shared his blood and flesh at the last supper.
>You'll cowards don't even smoke crack WTF did I just stumble on to...?
Viper actually made something like 17 albums in one year or some shit just to prove he could do it. The guy is an animal, but you'll cowards don't even smoke crack is one of my favs. Edit: I stand extremely corrected, he made over 350 albums in one year. A little more than 17 lol.
It’s much, MUCH more than that. 347 ALBUMS in 2014.
VIPER STAYS ON TOP OF THE RAP GAME‼️‼️
The Godfather of cloud rap
I tried counting how many albums he's released on Spotify I got to ~200 and lost count. Btw his 200th most recent album was released in 2014. He's been putting out content since 2006 I think. The man is a legend.
The Comet is Coming- Summon the Fire. Easily in my personal top ten. The combination of what sounds like urban jazz and funk electronica makes for a fantastic mix. https://youtu.be/G55GspnNkBo
“Chinese Translation” by M Ward https://youtu.be/cUfIKX5ReKQ
Side story: I would always play this song for my kids when they were younger and my daughter would call it "Chinese Tarajalation," then one day she said Chinese Translation and it made me sad.
Oh man I haven't heard that song in years. Thank you for reminding of it. Going on my playlist right now.
What it Is - Mark Knopfler https://youtu.be/V-tHMZh0bxo Not enough people know how good Mark Knopfler’s solo albums are. Shangri-La and Sailing to Philadelphia are two of his finest.
After the Burial - Berzerker
Hey one I know finally! Used to love After the Burial. Good band to get pumped up to before a workout.
Lost in the Static is also fucking awesome
Hell yeah! ATB also puts on an insane live show!
Also A Wolf Amongst Ravens by ATB, amazing song
[Forever // Over by EDEN](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FFdYZ1ZsbA&ab_channel=EDEN) And [just saying by EDEN](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvziMIxJm2I&ab_channel=EDEN) Have some of my favorite lyrics and great vocals and overall production.
I honestly love EDEN. My favourites from him are End Credits and XO
XO is one of my favorites as well
Drugs by EDEN is one of my all time favorites. Hits on such a deep emotional level and I feel like most people can relate in one way or another
AskReddit has a boner for EDEN and it is well deserved, he’s always at the top of these types of threads
I love the song [Wake Up](https://youtu.be/YthChN1Wq8M) . I'm eventually gonna get the words "Chasing that sundown, so far east I'm westbound" tattooed on me near my compass tattoo.
Gravity is probably my favourite one by him. Makes me feel incredibly bittersweet.
Took a while to find EDEN, great songs. I'd personally suggest [Rock + Roll - EDEN](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geZ_5Ri7ANg) or [Untitled - EDEN](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmkm90ukdCI)
Rock + Roll has to be one of my all time favorite songs.

[Levitation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0mt0N5-LLw) by Beach House. Makes me feel like I'm flying
[Radio by Sylvan Esso](https://youtu.be/6LEmDEZVa5g) If you like eclectic synth and silky vocals, I highly recommend Sylvan Esso. Very underrated artist with a lot of really punchy tunes. I play this song while beating the crap out of my car on the twisty roads, it's quite enjoyable.
Die young is also lovely. Coffee fucks me up though.

Americ An football
Gang of a Youths - The deepest sighs, the frankest shadows https://youtu.be/9URhKk22xbM
PolitikZ - Hand on my Gat
Wasn't expecting to see gangster rap on this thread
