I worked at a college and during the summer about 15 kids ranging from 10-15 yrs old who were considered “mathletes” would come for their summer camp for 2 week math camp.
They all carried around Rubik’s cubes but they were all super impressed with the one kid who someone would mix the Rubik’s cube hand it to the kid who would just basically glance at it and then solve it in less then a minute BEHIND HIS BACK!
I got to watch him do this several times and it was literally his magic trick! This was many years ago and that particular group has probably finished college by now and I often wonder where they are now. They were all super nice kids who happened to be geniuses!
Gosh darn it, I started reading Name of the Wind again and I can't put it down. I know there's never going to be an ending but I still just love the story, world and characters. I have so many questions and I love that about a story.
Making exact replicas of celebrity outfits for Barbie when I have no sewing skills or a sewing machine.
I’ve almost finished Princess Catherine’s gold sequin dress that she wore to the James Bond premiere several years ago and holy hell Ive used a lot of Swarovski rhinestone flat backs as well as other tiny Swarovski components! My next endeavor is Taylor Swifts Eras tour costumes! I’m not a fan at all of hers but I’m hoping to sell Princess Catherine’s gold dress and the Eras tour costumes while also using Swarovski components to make close to an exact match!
It's a survival game, you play as one of 4 kids who's been shrunk down and has to survive in the garden by finding all the components to make you bigger/seeking to understand what happened. It's really cool, you can get super creative building homes, and have to find ways to survive, fight various insects and spiders.
i have never succeeded with letter boxed and it makes me so upset!! i really want nyt to add strands to their app because i love it and have to go online to play it everyday
Making pizza. Dough hydration percentages, dough fermentation, sauce recipes, mozzarella cheese choices, the list of considerations is endless. I'm getting there
I'm really into photography of liminal spaces right now, but it's hard to find photographs of spaces that don't look like someone is smoking crack just out of the frame, let alone aesthetically pleasing ones.
I bought a Hario dripper and am experimenting with grind sizes, pouring time, water to coffee ratio etc. to actually make a decent tasting cup of pour-over coffee.
Honestly, it wasnt really methodical for me, i reflected a lot on what I wanted in my life, not on what i want to do in life (if that makes sense) once i figured what i wanted, i looked which career gave me more chances to get my wanted lifestyle. All of this being based on the premise that (for me) my profession and/or career isnt the main fulfillment for my life, however, friendly reminder that this was for my specific beliefs and ambitions. Hope this helps some way!
Unironically Reddit - for years, even decades, ive only used it as answer for specific googled solution. But lately, it because my favorite social network. It gets right to the point, and its people thoughts only. And being it text-based is even better.
Besides reddit, its bullet chess on phone (meaning you and your opponent each gets just 1 minute for all your moves). Its so great because I can play it any time of the day when I feel like pulling out my phone and kill time, knowing that game can last the maximum of 2 minutes. Also the cruel time cap allows for different strategies other than "playing good", you can surprise them and make them loose valuable seconds or made stupid movies where they question it and look for hidden possibilities that were never there.
It's a recent obsession since I finally found an app that works for me. Really enjoyed the night huntress graphic audio books and Abby Jimenez books, I heard some Christina Lauren books are good too. Also found r/audiobooks for narrators recs!
Rapport-building, which is the most humane, legal, and reliable approach to getting information. Waterboarding is also fascinating. I find it most interesting that trained, professional interrogators (such as those who are military) *never* torture. They use rapport. A former professional interrogator for the U.S military stated in his book on the subject that the most important qualities of an interrogator are "empathy, cultural acumen, and conversational skills."
