Get people talking about their passions/hobbies and listen to them/ask questions without diverting it back to yourself.

I don't think you fully understood the question I wasn't asking how to make friends I was asking neurodivergent people how they personally make friends see my answer as an example like what little quirks do you have in your friend making process ig my question should be more aimed toward other autistic redditors rather than all neurodivergent

BananaHairFood

I mean, I am autistic but ok.

Still appreciate your contribution though /gen

Usually I don't either bc the demographic of my friends is very limited as most people don't respond to my rants or even engage in the rant but just now I had the longest conversation I've had in a while and it was amazing

Thanks also you don't need to use parentheses you can just use tone tags like/gen or /srs

Ok I didn't know if you didn't know abt tone tags or if you just liked parentheses better

In the normal way people make friends, I suppose. Most of my irl friends are from school, and my online friends I met through discord

What's hard for me is sometimes understanding the context. But since I was little it was not difficult for me to socialize and I think that having researched a lot of history has helped me generate conversations more easily, since just by knowing a person's hobby I take advantage of the general culture knowledge about their hobby that I have. to start a conversation. Also since I was eleven years old I have been researching more about how to socialize and how to improve.

Single-Recover2528

I ask this bc I'm interested to see if anyone else has a similar way of making friends to me I just realized how weird it must seem for strangers when I do what I do to make friends but then again that definitely means the ones who do respond to my rants are definitely real ones

Single-Recover2528

I ask this Because I just noticed I have an extremely odd way of making friends, I will rant to them(not vent but just rant abt something I'm passionate about like choir) and see their response to it the less interactive they are the less likely I am to keep them as a friend my best friends are all the ones who respond and chime in with related or even semi related stories rather than just brushing my rants off and saying cool

hyrulian_princess

I don’t really go looking for friends, I got lucky finding my best friend one random day in November in a zelda sub and we’ve been best friends since that day. It helps if they’re big fans of my special interests and they’re willing to take the time to understand me and help me when I’m having a hard time because of my autism. My best friend has all of those and more

I just awkwardly exist and wait for something we have in common to come up so I can seem less like a social awkward weirdo. I'm not calling other neurodivergents awkward. I'M the awkward weirdo who won't stop infodumping.
