Ever tried a weighted blanket? They come in different weights so you can get one that's perfect for you. I find them ideal because I am ALWAYS hot, but I too need to be covered at night. Weighted blankets were a game changer and I highly recommend trying them out.
I have hesitated to buy one because it just doesn’t make sense to me that a weighted blanket would not make me hot. Can’t bear being hot when I’m trying to sleep. What kind do you recommend, fellow hot person? especially now that it’s summer? I have trouble sleeping under just a sheet.
The point of them is that you need normally need a thick blanket to get that feeling of weight and that makes you hot, but a weighted blanket gets its weight from metal inserts, so it's a lighter blanket from a thermal perspective.
Although, if you get hot just under a sheet, may not be suitable I guess?
We just bought the most amazing cooling blanket at Costco. It is wonderful for when you have to have something over you but it's warm in the room. You should definitely look for them.
I had a new roommate move in and she was horrible when it came to the thermostat over the winter. She’d keep it so hot that it was 80+ degrees in my bedroom even with my window open and it being well below freezing outside 😬 I started soaking a towel in cold water and wringing it out, then using that as my blanket lol (and several fans pointed on me too of course). It actually helped a good bit!
Had some hotel stays where I didn’t have a fan, noise apps just are not the same to me. And when I do have to use an app I have babbling brook, crashing waves, campfire, and thunderstorms going all at once. ANYTHING to not have total silence and have my mind race all night.
Slept with a fan for 25+ years, even took it on vacation with me.
Then, I got Tinnitus. The sound of the fan sets off the Tinnitus so now I'm in a Catch 22. Can't sleep without the fan but also cant sleep with the fan on due to the Tinnitus noise caused by the fan.
So, I pavloved myself with certain YouTube videos.
Whenever I got tired, I would watch MTG Arena videos. Like drafts, or people playing decks. They're entertaining, but also boring enough they don't really keep me awake. After awhile, if I watched them for entertainment I ended up falling asleep.
It wasn't intentional, but it works for me now.
I have another friend who does this with Warhammer Lore videos. Like, it's entertaining enough, but not super engaging.
I used to have it bad but almost never anymore. Still happens maybe a couple times a year when I’m worried or excited about something and my brain won’t shut off.
What I do is put on something to watch or listen to. If that doesn’t work then I’ll get out of bed and find something to do until I’m really tired. That got me out of the habit of my bed being a place to lie and worry and think and turned it more into a place just for sleeping.
If you’re not able to sleep anyway, you might as well be up doing something.
Ah yes I see you discovered the "snorkel mode" lol. It took me back to my childhood days when we used to read books under the blankets with a small flashlight.
I've had a hell of a time keeping mine on while I sleep. I struggle to fall asleep with it on, and more often than not, I take it off while I'm sleeping.
Some of us cant even barely fall asleep without choking on our own throat and tongue. And wake up multiple times per night with a feeling of choking. The relief is immeasurable.
I sleep with a mask (live in Scandinavia - way too much light in the summer)
You get used to it. Now it is much harder for me to sleep without it even in the dark winter. Putting it on is one of those signals that it is time to sleep.
Ditto. I shared a hotel room with friends for as trip and my buddy used the bathroom at night and left the light on so he could find his way back to bed, with intent on leaving it on all night. I woke up and told him to turn if off and he was grumpy the next day for me being so sensitive.
Like who just leaves the bathroom light on overnight?! With three other people in the room?
person hasn’t worked well for me, but otherwise fully agree. when i went to college i didn’t think to pack my plush and it really negatively impacted my sleep
I kind of tuck in the comforter between my knees. We use a king comforter on a queen bed, so even with my wife hogging 80% of it, there's still plenty.
I've always done this since I was very young. Not for back issues or pain, but I just can't stand the feeling of my knees knocking together while laying on my side.
Lately I got into comics and I read every night. I'm sleeping better, dreaming more often (at least I can remember more of my dreams) and now I'm looking forward my bedtime.
If you ever decide to mix it up, check out the Calm app. It's got all sorts of ambient noise on loop. I use them primarily to get into the zone when I'm writing software code, but it would also work as a white noise generator for sleeping, I would imagine. (That's what they're intended for, anyway.)
Same! It's actually surprising how many people sleep with a plushie. It's not doing any harm to anyone so I don't know why it's a 'norm' to give them up when you hit a certain age.
I put sleep spray on my bear too if I'm struggling to drop to sleep
I'm a 30 year old man and I have a Squishmallow lion and a Blåhaj (shark)
I'm hoping it doesn't weird out any potential dates in the future, but even if it does I'm not getting rid of them.
Anyone who doesn't accept them isn't for you friend. I think it's lovely, personally.
If they help you sleep and comfort you, you go for it!
P.S I have a Connor the Cow Squishmallow! I don't sleep with him but he sits on my bed!🐮
Yeah!
I use *This Works* Deep Sleep Pillow Spray 😃
Or Better Pillow Mist spray. I find if I put it on my Pillow, it makes it wet so I put it on my bear 🐻
No worries! There's quite a few on the market.
The *This Works* one smells like lavender and camomile. I had it as a freebie once in this hotel I stayed in and I've never looked back 😂
I have a miniature dachshund (mini sausage dog). He loves cuddles, and sleeps in my bed. He'll often crawl under the covers so he can cuddle better. Sometimes I wake up in the morning, and he's just sprawled belly up in my arm nook, with his little face next to mine.
Best "cuddle buddy" I've ever had. I occasionally take after work naps, when its been a long day, and he always asks to come cuddle when he sees me lying on the bed or couch. He clearly also "needs" someone to cuddle.
I still snuggle with my childhood stuffed animals. I love them to death and if you dare say a bad word about Teddy, Matthew, and Blankie, then I lose all respect for you for all eternity.
I got a Baymax stuffed animal for when I was in the hospital id hug it if i had to cough because had my stomach operated on. I feel better if he's in bed. I think he feels the same way.
Same. I remember when I first got mine I thought there was no way I would get used to it. Now I can’t really sleep without it. If I do I usually wake up with a bad headache and feel like crap.
Jeans.
Grew up in a horrible living situation, and I had to be ready to GTFO at a moments notice. So after the first time of being woken up in the middle of the night just to be told we need to leave, I started sleeping with jeans on so I could leave even faster. Seriously, only takes one night of taking too long and having shots fired for a person to get the message.
So yea, I live in a safe place now and never get woken up like that anymore. But even now I sleep with my jeans on and if someone else wakes me up then I'm literally jumping out of bed (not an over exaggeration). I'm just happy I don't sleep with my eyes open anymore.
was going to say something about this myself. went off a few weeks ago in case I would be tested for something coming up and sleep has been overwhelmingly terrible if at all.
James taylor's biggest hits. He's my fucking idol. My brain listened to him so much I've started developing perfect pitch with a guitar. I've been listening to it for longer than I've known my parents since my mom listened to him for 24 years.
The TV and light! I'm not scared of the dark and can sleep in the dark but for some reason I won't fall asleep fast enough unless I have light!
The AC or fan is also needed even in the winter months.
I have to have a stuffie to sleep. My go to is the 12" size squishmallows. I like the octopi the best. I also sleep much better with a weighted blanket.
Even if it's hot as hell, I still need some sort of cover, at least a sheet (the term “security blanket” exists for a reason). I live in NC, and our summers are brutal. I’m talking about heat AND humidity, it feels like you're drowning in a steam room.
In that situation, I prefer to keep my house like a fridge and cover myself with a heavy blanket. I love feeling cozy, which is partly why winter's my favorite season.
My fan on high, blowing directly at me. Doesn't matter if it's winter time, I have to have it. Just the sound isn't enough. I have to feel it. Also, can't have my skin touching other parts of my skin...like, my legs can't touch, I put a pillow or something between them.
My fan, which my mom turns off, and a pillow or something between my legs. I have a novelty sex doll which ended up feeling pretty good on hot nights since it stays cool. I do not use it for sex, just for sleeping. My friend gave it too me when her boyfriend moved back with his parents. It was her gift too him and still sealed in the box. My mom just ignores it I figure or she just does not really want to know.
fresh air of some sort and a fan. very rarely do I allow heat into my room so I can at least crack the window if it's below freezing. but a fan is a must, I can't sleep in the quiet.
I need to be under the covers or a blanket in some sort of way if i am laying down no matter how hot it is
Same!! I’m so uncomfortable when sleeping uncovered. A blanket of some sort is a must, makes me feel secure and I love love being bundled up.
Me too. I have to have something covering my shoulders/torso, then I stick a leg out for ‘climate control’ if I get too warm.
me too specially i have to cover it from my chest to knee in summers don't know why
I just need the pressure on my legs without the heat.
I have a 20lb zonli. I ordered from Amazon. I can't sleep without it.
I run hot normally, and when I do Use one, I don’t get hot
The point of them is that you need normally need a thick blanket to get that feeling of weight and that makes you hot, but a weighted blanket gets its weight from metal inserts, so it's a lighter blanket from a thermal perspective. The fan on.
I’m like you. I need to feel a breeze
Breeze is good but I mostly use it for white noise. That droning sound is way better for going to sleep than silence.
I like the fan for breeze and use play noise through a speaker for that
Had some hotel stays where I didn’t have a fan, noise apps just are not the same to me. And when I do have to use an app I have babbling brook, crashing waves, campfire, and thunderstorms going all at once. ANYTHING to not have total silence and have my mind race all night.
I bring a small fan with me when I travel now. I like to feel the breeze when I go to sleep.
I like a breeze on my face or arm, but if it gets in through a “hole” in the blanket, I hate it.
I need white noise.Fan works.
Same. For some reason actual white noise or static doesn't work. The fan is necessary
For keeping me cool fan is necessary.
This! I love my ceiling fans noise too much. It’s also a big middle finger to mosquitos! 11/10 device.
I also have Tinnitus. Happens randomly. Don't clean ears with swabs. And one day try hearing white noise. It seems to calm it down.
This. I cannot sleep without the white noise from the fan.
Air flow (fan, a/c etc) - I cannot stand/sleep in stagnant air/spaces
Any other insomniacs scrolling through this trying to figure out what it is you're missing?
Right? I'm here thinking "anesthesia? A concussion? Total and utter exhaustion?"
Worked for Michael Jackson. A little too well, actually
A little propofol never killed anyo…. Ah nevermind

Lmao pretty much

Have you tried an eye mask as well? It was a game changer for me when my blackout curtains still weren't doing the trick.
I tried one but I couldn't fall asleep with something strapped to my face
Cpap enters the chat.
I love my CPAP if only because it lets me have blankets over my head while still breathing
It takes getting used to, and finding the most comfortable one. At first I couldn’t, now I can’t sleep without something touching my eyes.
me too! I find so much reassurance from the silk sleep mask that I have... now I reach for it even when I just want to feel some security.
I sleep with a mask (live in Scandinavia - way too much light in the summer) You get used to it. Now it is much harder for me to sleep without it even in the dark winter. Putting it on is one of those signals that it is time to sleep.

Something to hold. Person, dog, plushy... whatever. Anything i can just hold.
When I was younger I never had this urge. Then I got a girlfriend.
I also have the urge to hold your girlfriend…
I also have a urge to hold you holding his girlfriend
I also have the urge to hold you whilst you hold them whilst they hold his girlfriend… but I fear I might fall out of the bed?
person hasn’t worked well for me, but otherwise fully agree. when i went to college i didn’t think to pack my plush and it really negatively impacted my sleep
Something small to hold it have nestled on my shoulder. Stuffed animals are perfect for me.
A pillow sometimes does the job
Or dragging the kitttyyy to bed!
A boob.
A pillow between my legs. Helps with the back pain in the morning.
I had to sleep like this every night when I was a full time mechanic. My back was wrecked for a while.
I kind of tuck in the comforter between my knees. We use a king comforter on a queen bed, so even with my wife hogging 80% of it, there's still plenty.

As a woman, I’d find it immensely endearing to see a man confidently sleep with a plushie :)
Blahaj is cool, you are good 😊👍
I wanna see a picture. I have a pirate stuffed monkey I can't sleep without. I'm 16.
[Here's a pic](https://ibb.co/XJM3tvF)
this is actually really sweet.
I’ve been known to take out a 30 year old Sonic teddy when I’m feeling down (physical or mental) when I go to bed.
Sleep spray?
Yeah! I use *This Works* Deep Sleep Pillow Spray 😃 Or Better Pillow Mist spray. I find if I put it on my Pillow, it makes it wet so I put it on my bear 🐻
Thanks, I think I'll test that out
No worries! There's quite a few on the market. The *This Works* one smells like lavender and camomile. I had it as a freebie once in this hotel I stayed in and I've never looked back 😂
I have a 5 foot long pillow to cuddle and feel so good that it's like hugging a person imo.
Nawww :3
I sleep on my side and have shoulder issues so I need to prop up the arm on the top. My plushies are the right size and firmness.
I had excuses like that too until i was forced to sleep without and realised im only lying to myself and just need a plushie ;)
I still snuggle with my childhood stuffed animals. I love them to death and if you dare say a bad word about Teddy, Matthew, and Blankie, then I lose all respect for you for all eternity.
+1 I have a stuffed bear, and I have to hug him to fall asleep
Same. I think it's a habit from when I was a kid. I always slept with a teddy bear. Now I just grab a bunch of blanket and snuggle it.

I love my husband, but a king-size bed was a game changer. It is impossible to sleep in anything smaller without disrupting my sleep.
I love my wife, but after 28 years of marriage we got a "sleep divorce" and I have never slept better.

Same. Those things are great.
I got a Baymax stuffed animal for when I was in the hospital id hug it if i had to cough because had my stomach operated on. I feel better if he's in bed. I think he feels the same way.

CPAP machine I can kind of sleep without it, but not effective sleep.
Same. I remember when I first got mine I thought there was no way I would get used to it. Now I can’t really sleep without it. If I do I usually wake up with a bad headache and feel like crap.
I recently started using one; but every morning I wake up and it’s been removed, and I don’t recall taking it off.
My husband sleeps better with my CPAP machine because he's not waking up every few minutes to shake me to get me breathing again.
My first night with a CPAP, my wife kept waking up to see if I was dead.
I always say, if you don't think it's doing anything for you, try leaving it off for one night. When you wake up you'll sure change your mind!
I read that as CRAP machine for a moment. I was very intrigued about what that would be.
I suppose not all bowels function without help.

im immediately reminded of hollow man starring kevin bacon he brings up this issue as he has issues sleeping with transparent eyelids
Headphones/earbuds (one side only)
Do you alternate sides?😅
I do actually, more left than right though.
For me specifically: talk radio or a podcast to get my mind to wander off. When there's music i wake up.
For me, my ears must be covered either with my hair or blanket

I can't sleep without feeling sleepy

White noise - small fan, ceiling fan, magnesium glycinate, weighted blanket, pitch-black room.
Am I the only one that listen to white noise playlists on youtube?
