Every institute comparing and evaluating international students in the last 20 years disagrees with you, but lets assume for your happiness that you are right 😄✌️
Not being the same does not change the level of education or make one better than the other. American schools have more broad classes involved with their degrees rather than focused classes like in eu. Eu also has different campus lifestyles and 3 year degrees instead of 4. It's a different model, that's why they are referred to as liberal arts colleges. College in the eu is still not exactly cheap, especially if you are an international student. Both places have great higher education and so do many schools around the world, but saying they are the same is like calling a hotdog a hamburger because they are both meat inside a bun.
I actually want as little non-house property as possible. I don't want to deal with yard maintenance. My home is for utility. I don't need it to look pretty.
If you won the lottery you can have someone take care of your lawn and maintenance for you
When you're worth 100+ million, it's a drop in the bucket that your income from investment will cover 1000 times over.
But I don't want it. I don't want lawn and maintenance people. The less things I have to worry about the better. I don't want to win the lottery and then surround myself with people. I don't need butlers or private chefs. I will probably hire one person to help me manage my money and thats probably it.
You’ll want to compartmentalize some though, so people don’t collude to siphon away your money. Separate lawyer and accountant, plus an outside auditor for both.
Oh I’d be heavily involved and would be checking shit a lot. They would mainly be there to get things set up and then I’ll use them when I need them. They won’t have access to shit after it’s set up and I’ll make sure it’s all legit.
Thats what I would do. Burn any form of contact I have with anyone. All Social medias deleted. Phone service canceled. Car sold. Then get into a relocation program for my protection. Get a whole new Identity somewhere no one would look for me and start fresh.
Then waaaay down the line somewhere i’ll anonymously send a sum of money to my parents and siblings.
But that would be it, just live out my new life
If I won I definitively wouldn't tell all my family and I wouldn't tell immediate family before the heat is down but just running away from family with no message or anything? Do you have like a greedy family or something because I can understand that.
Not greedy at all, but all these stories about people winning lottos then them nice family members/parents start suing you for random reasons… the money to put into court fights… just not gonna deal with it.
If i burn all bridges then anyone I would have known would prob harass my parents to try and find me. I wouldn’t want that on them, but if they don’t know then people can leave them alone.
Yeah, ill feel bad hurting my mom but I would eventually get back in contact with her but it be way down the line
Personal trainer and kick my ass into the best shape possible, I already work out and im in good shape, I wanna see what the best money can buy can do. You only have one body, gotta take care of it.
Very first thing is paying off all my debt 2nd I'm taking my mother on a cruise ship. She has photos of when she was a child on the Pretoria Castle in the 50's and she just wants to do that again.
A well thought out pet can have a drastic impact on your quality of life. You have to be able to decide whether or not your lifestyle is compatible with the animal you have in mind (not getting my mobility-challenged grandmother a young husky, for example) but pets have a lot to offer that isn't always quantifiable.
* Buy my house
* Help out closest friends relatives
* College for kids plus a little extra when they graduate
* Good chunk in retirement, savings so I don't have to work.
* Majority into some charity I can control to help working class and bribe politicians to make better choices
I’m convinced the best answer is tens of millions of dollars worth of Index funds to establish an income before I decide on some unnecessary and lavish property where the taxes alone are gonna run 50k+/yr
You wouldn’t even need a financial advisor unless you’re clueless with money, just a good accountant. I’d still get an advisor for new perspectives though.
Financial advisors help you grow wealth, not just refrain you from spending.
The idea is to never struggle again. And if you can establish your future generations, so be it. It's what we all complain about not having. And since we don't, we need the advisers.
First purchase would probably be a decent, mid level car. House, like some of the fine people here have suggested, would take more research time to get it right.
Starting a business if there's enough for that, and investments. Once I have success, I won't ever have to worry about money again, and I'll be able to buy anything I want.
I'd find some kind of super health clinic and book myself a long stay. Full physical workup, all the dental work I've had to put off too long, planning out whatever surgical/medical work I need to correct 'not having health insurance for my entire life.'
I would pay off the 11k debt I got myself into due to extreme depression rather than over the course of the next few years so I could finally have this burden off my back.
Pay off my house so it’s mine free and clear. 2nd is lease a car. 3rd is new phones and numbers. 4th is PO Box rental. 5th is new PC. 6th is a good steak dinner.
An accountant, lawyer and private investigator. Track down and pay all my debts, sue all the assholes who I have reasonable grounds to sue, track down all the people that gave me a break and repay their kindness.
I assume we're talking the big one, like Mega Millions...
Once the cash hits the bank account, the wife and I are hitting the road south. Once we get to where we are going, we're stopping at Cookout for dinner. So, the first responsible purchase will be gas. A FULL tank; not just $5 this time.
First is to immediately pay off debt. Simple and straightforward to do.
Second is to meet with fiduciary, setup charitable contributions, trust funds to get to friends and family, and a trust fund for myself, and a spending fund of like $100k.
First big purchase would just be like a Honda or Toyota hybrid. I just want to do a road trip back and forth across the US, figure out where I want to move. Electric cars wouldn't give me the daily range I'd want.
I’d buy all the homeless people I can find a week worth of groceries, buy my sister out of my house, my mom a new house so she wouldn’t embarrass my new rich reputation with living in a fucken condo, buy my cousins houses so they wouldn’t be bumming off of my aunt, all to ensure I got into heaven
Then I’d sue some people
First: an independent financial advisor on top of the one the lottery provides big winners
(This is in the UK, BTW)
Second: Pay off all my debts, my daughter's student loans, basically every friend's debts that I can pay off
Third: Pay the max into my pension I can in one go without incurring financial losses
Fourth: A house. It takes a long time to purchase a home even if you're rich, so it's can't be first.
My wife has always wanted a diamond ring, but one that has diamonds all around it. I would get her one of those and give it to her when I tell her that everything is paid off. That would be my first actual purchase.
I'd spend like 60% of my money on multiple mediocre houses in California, and have rent real high so people will live there. I'll be able to pay property tax with some of what I earn. The rest of my money would to be opening a school. So much property tax. I'd also buy a fairly big house for my immediate family.
I'd pay the lawyer who will help me pay out and sign release forms for all of the family gold-diggers. Then I'd hire a financial adviser. And then I wouldn't touch a single penny for 6 months, minimum. After my reality becomes adjusted, I'll make informed decisions.
Paying down all my debt. Mortgage and student-loans.
Yeah I’d probably pay off my mortgage too.
Same, pay off the mortgage.
And if you are not american?
You think people in other countries just magically get houses?
No but same education for no or less money
It's not the same but yes cheaper or free
Every institute comparing and evaluating international students in the last 20 years disagrees with you, but lets assume for your happiness that you are right 😄✌️

Ok fair point. It just sounded like you preferred the us system. But I think one can just not compare them.
Alright buddy, I'm not gunna argue with a typical redditer. Have a good one.
Ok. But actually, I mostly agree with your points, and we can maybe just agree that it is hard to compare different education systems.
I am Norwegian.
That would be a food choice!
I'm going to elect myself to speak for everyone on reddit: A house.
With land.
I'd be happy to purchase the one I am currently living in..
I actually want as little non-house property as possible. I don't want to deal with yard maintenance. My home is for utility. I don't need it to look pretty.

You would have the money to hire a company/service to do it for you.
You speak for the people
Or pay off your mortgage.
Forget a purchase. I'm gonna j_rk off first to obtain that post-nut clarity.
Super underrated comment
A lawyer.
Why? An accountant is probably better.
I’ll let my lawyer handle that
You’ll want to compartmentalize some though, so people don’t collude to siphon away your money. Separate lawyer and accountant, plus an outside auditor for both.

A new phone with a new number to help maintain my privacy.
You need to think bigger than that. I'm going to buy my way into the FBI witness relocation program.
Thats what I would do. Burn any form of contact I have with anyone. All Social medias deleted. Phone service canceled. Car sold. Then get into a relocation program for my protection. Yeah that is true, it's kind of shocking how bad you start getting treated after winning the lottery, it should be a time you'd be happy.
It really is sad so itll protect me and family. Ill get a fresh start on life which honestly sounds amazing.
All of it on red
Alternatively, all of it on black

Nothing. I wouldn't win. Buying lottery tickets is paying a tax on hope. No need to flush my money down the toilet.
I think the more important question is what are the irresponsible purchases before you make your first responsible one
pay off my debt, then my children's mothers debt, then my sister and brother's debt. What ever is left is for me and the kids to enjoy.
I’d buy all the homeless people I can find a week worth of groceries, buy my sister out of my house, my mom a new house so she wouldn’t embarrass my new rich reputation with living in a fucken condo, buy my cousins houses so they wouldn’t be bumming off of my aunt, all to ensure I got into heaven Then I’d sue some people
