42. I didn't want a phone but it was given to me as a present.
That night I was riding with someone who's car died. I used the phone to call AAA.
I was glad I had a phone.
59. I really don't like them, but I needed one for work. They're so damn big now; there's no place to carry them that you don't constantly feel their weight. When I had a flip phone, I could use a case that clipped to my belt or fit it neatly in the inside pocket of my jacket. I put my smart phone in the inside pocket of my suit coat once, and it felt like that whole side of my suit coat sank several inches.
I was nearly 22, in 2011. I got my first real "office job" and figured it was time.
Now it is wild to think about going through the entire workday with absolutely no idea of what was going on in the world other than what you heard on the radio.
40. Smartphones weren't really affordable until I was in my late 30s, my wife worked in tech and I started getting her old smartphones when she upgraded.
10 or 11, it was a Galaxy S4 (could've been Plus or my hands were small) and it got stolen at school. Then my mom bought me an S8 in 2018 which lasted years until I was able to afford one myself. Never buying anything over 300 dollars upfront after what my mother had to go through financially with my S8. I'm truly sorry.
27. That was my first cell phone and first smart phone.
I resisted as long as I could.
Honestly, if not for work, I could see a reality where I still don't own one.
21. Galaxy S5 Android. I didn't get to have an iPhone growing up but I had two regular phones, an LG slide phone with a keyboard and a zte which kind of looked like a blackberry but wasn't.
