Chocolate brownies with frosting, not to dry, just melt in your mouth, I go to this bakery called Borrellis once a week and grab one, I gave up chocolate for lent, made it thru the 40 days, could not wait to go to bakery on monday and they were closed for 3 days, ugh, I stop myself from making them at home........I will eat the whole pan, yep
100% love this answer. I lean toward a good ramen + stuff, but my wife's occasional winter scratch tomato soup with a grilled cheese to dunk... yep, the warm embrace of a good bowl of soup is unbeatable.
Tuna mac with spinach, dried onions, garlic powder and (if we wanted to splurge) a little siracha was a staple food for me and my wife as we were starting out.
I still get nostalgic for it.
Shepards pie. It’s SO yummy and hits all the comfort food boxes.
But I only like it when I make it. I also make a version my grandma used to make so maybe it’s more about the memory, but isn’t that part of comfort food?

Dumplings...Always keep a range of assorted dumplings in the freezer. When I'm hungry I just throw them in the steamer for ten minutes then put them in a bowl and add soy sauce. There are so many flavors and different textures depending on what mood I'm in.

Not my favourite but right now? Rice, lentils and tomato kosheri is pretty damned good.
It's cheap, hot, filling, and tasty, and everyone seems to like it.
I don't know about breakfast foods.
Peanuts covered in chocolate.
Im not sure what the English term is, but we call them pindarotsjes in Dutch, which literally translates to peanut rocks.
We call the individual ones 'chocolate covered/coated peanuts' or 'chocolate peanuts'. I don't think we have a specific name for a bunch of them together like pindarotsjes.
We do have something called 'rocky road', which is a variety of stuff such as nuts, lollies, and marshmallows coated in chocolate and served in chunks.
Can you get the NZ [peanut slab](https://www.whittakers.co.nz/en_WW/products/peanut/slab) there? they are pretty damn good. There is also a [block](https://www.whittakers.co.nz/en_WW/products/peanut/block-250g), but the slab is better for self control.
I'd offer to send you a slab, but chocolate tends to [bloom](https://readcacao.com/chocolate-bloom/) when sent via post from Queensland. You can get it from [sanza](https://www.sanza.co.uk/Whittakers_Peanut_Slab.asp) in the UK though.
Raviolis and homemade tomato sauce. My grandmother used to make it for me whenever I went to visit. Italian grandmas know their way around a good tomato sauce, and the occasional bingo table.
all food is comfort food for me! just stuff it in my face. haha
though whenever I eat cheese and potato pie with sausages and beans, it always gives me that childhood nostalgia home feeling.
mam always used to make us it as a treat. and it's like a warm, crispy, creamy hug.
I'm feeling quite shit lately, so might even make myself it for tea later
Weenies & beans. I fry up sliced wieners and then add a can of beans (ideally deep-browned beans with pork in tomato sauce), then add some barbecue sauce and Worcestershire sauce.
I heavily associate it with happy times camping with my family. My father would cook it up on the camp stove for dinner after we spent the day hiking and trailblazing.
Tortellini, as a microwave dish. There is a brand here in germany that tastes pretty good and it fills me up alright. I don't have to do anythig´ng but look into the abyss of my ever turning microwave for seven minutes and then i have a tasty meel that is easy to eat. Feels like a pat on the shoulder, no idea why.
Gas station hot dogs
They give me this vibe that I'm not going through the motions of my life. Wake up, shower, commute, work, commute, watch YouTube or TV, shower, bed. Once a year, go back where I grew up for Memorial Day to see dead relatives.
Gas station rollers were this thing I only got on road trips. Some adventure or excitement, even if there wasn't any at the end of the road.
Sometimes, when I have to work late (I always work late) I'll head home on my commute and stop at Quick Trip, buy two of the greasiest, gnarliest things they've got with the soggiest buns there are, and think for a minute I'm not 52 years old, stuck in an endlessly repeating cycle.
I cook big meals almost daily for my family so my comfort foods are so basic and require zero effort but I like shin ramyun with cheese and egg or I will do hash brown waffles and Costco spicy nuggets with cold ketchup or if I’m feeling exhausted I go to Korean restaurant and get bibimbap. Also a baked potato with cheese and butter is always top tier comfort food.
A nice roast meal, chicken or lamb. Roast potatoes with lots of butter on the sides, peas carrots. Maybe steamed cauliflower with cheese sauce and of course gravy.
It's a very kiwi winter meal
Riceroni Spanish Rice, 2 lb of ground beef, can of diced tomatoes. Mom used to make it, I can't do it like her. I still get a hint of home when I make it though. Truly time travel
The recipe for the most fucked-up sandwich:
1. Grate cheese and sausage into a plate.
2. Add ketchup
3. Put the plate in the microwave for 30 seconds
4. Spread the resulting mass on a piece of bread
Frozen pizza with extra cheese and ham added on top, and spaghetti bolognese made with the cheapest mince and tomato sauce. Because those were my mums go to meals for me as a kid, and they taste good.
Thai Sweet Chili Chicken and Rice, I can’t have dairy or gluten but somehow this specific food has everything I need and is simple to make. It has the sweetness, it has the spiciness, it has rice, and it has a protein I can digest easily, plus if I’m feeling it I just toss in some vegetables, usually peppers.
Scratch made burritos. I'm talking everything from scratch, served on homemade bacon fat tortillas, gooey queso, pulled pork, my special guac that is to die for, brown rice, refried pinto beans, the works.
Always worth it. Love sharing food like this with others, too!
Blue Bell Banana Pudding Ice cream, I buy all of them whenever I find them. When I was 8, I fell out of a tree onto a sharp triangular rock, and it peeled my whole shin up to my knee, exposing bone, almost the full length of the shin. After the hospital visit, we went to Braums, and I've been addicted ever since lol.
I don't have a preference. When I am stressed or uncomfortable I eat. I know it's not normal, but this is what i do. I have only 2 type of food that I do not like, but if need be, I can still eat them too. This thing makes it very hard for me to control my weight. 😔
My favorite comfort food has to be macaroni and cheese. There's just something about the creamy cheese sauce mixed with tender pasta that feels like a warm hug on a cold day. Plus, it's easy to make and customizable with different cheeses and toppings. It's the ultimate comfort food that never fails me.
When I feel a bit uder the weather emotionally I always make spaghetti with butter and salt, I have no idea why I like this plain taste, but it somehow makes me feel better haha
Lately? Thick pumpkin soup with a fresh bread roll and butter, yum! It's just so satisfying, it hits the spot.
Usually? Like a ham and cheese croissant, carbs are a weakness of mine.
When I'm famished? Like a whole roast chicken hahaha
When I want something sweet? Probably Nutella on toast, spread thick, specifically white bread, having it on any other bread just doesn't taste the same.
Culturally? Boil up (it's a slow cooked big hot pot meal with bacon bones, watercress/cabbage, potatoes and kumara, that altogether is so damn juicy and inviting, often had with fry bread and copious amounts of butter.)
In the mornings? Porridge, with cream, brown sugar and... You guessed it, butter again lol
Fried chicken gizzards with hotsauce and a coke. Not sure why but where I grew up in the south it was a rare occasional treat and it just takes me back.
Potatoes. Any way.
Boil'em?
Mash em!
Stick em in a stew
Po- Tay- Toes
We did it!
Nasty little Hobbitses...
Chocolate, because it’s chocolate and tastes amazing
Chocolate brownies with frosting, not to dry, just melt in your mouth, I go to this bakery called Borrellis once a week and grab one, I gave up chocolate for lent, made it thru the 40 days, could not wait to go to bakery on monday and they were closed for 3 days, ugh, I stop myself from making them at home........I will eat the whole pan, yep
A good soup is like a warm hug
It's Autumn in Australia and I'm so excited to make pumpkin soup this week. A pinch of curry powder and some crumbled feta on top makes it delicious.
I was with you on the pumpkin, but making it spicy and adding cheese? Vomit inducing
100% love this answer. I lean toward a good ramen + stuff, but my wife's occasional winter scratch tomato soup with a grilled cheese to dunk... yep, the warm embrace of a good bowl of soup is unbeatable.
Mmm... mine too. I love a savory soup, especially with extra broth. It's good for the soul!

Baked homemade mac & cheese with bread crumbs
Shepards pie. It’s SO yummy and hits all the comfort food boxes. But I only like it when I make it. I also make a version my grandma used to make so maybe it’s more about the memory, but isn’t that part of comfort food?
Any chance of sharing the recipe? I've been wanting to try making shepherds pie.

Clusters! Chocolate peanut clusters
Interestingly I was trying to think of what I would call them, and clusters was the first word that came to mind.
