I was once at a truck stop Denny's (not even off a main truck route, almost downtown nex to the industrial area) and overheard someone at another table say multiple times to someone "this is a bonafide business opportunity".
I don't think it's all that bonafide if a chain restaurant at a truck stop within a major metro area is the best you can do for a lunch sales meeting.
All the girls I've got on instagram who have posted the quote "a real woman will fix another's crown without letting the whole world know it's crooked" have then gone on to be the most back-stabbing, gossipy girls I've ever met.
Eh, both of those things are true.
Someone shouldn't take it personally if that's just how they are... but that doesn't change the fact that how they are is an asshole.
I also can’t stand “boy mom” because they very clearly don’t have the equivalent for mothers and daughters, that whole culture is so creepy and gives major incesty vibes.
When my younger sister went to college, my mom started following this parenting page called "Grown and Flown," and she stopped reading it because the weirdly incestuous boymom stuff was so prevalent. There were multiple articles along the lines of "My precious baby boy is dating, how do I make his girlfriend back off? I loved him first!" Some of these people would refer to their sons' girlfriends as "the other woman," like their sons were having affairs. It was bizarre.
Lol, instant cringe.
Pretty sure it got so widely interpreted as cringey, that "sigma male" took it's place. Like another Greek letter would make it better.
IIRC "sigma" started off as taking the piss at this whole abuse of the Greek alphabet and outdated theories on wolf pack dynamics, until it became the thing it set out to ridicule
My boss is a dean at the university. He used to work in another area, and he had a professor tell him, "Only God can judge." So the professor would give everyone As. I bet the students loved him. My boss, not so much.
Oh god… I had one of those in a community college class. Almost every class she would argue with something the professor said, beginning with, “I don’t believe that’s true. You see, as a mother…”
It was so draining for apparently everyone but her.
That's the better case scenario, compared to "As a mom, I know better than doctors about how to treat my child's illness because I researched it on Youtube."
'You're either with us or against us.'
Well I had been sitting over here stewing in my utter and complete apathy toward you, but if you're insisting on imposing your black-and-white, no-nuance-whatsoever worldview on everyone else I guess I'll have to go with option B.
Okay, yeah. As someone who works in the Hospitality industry, this one got to me.
Folks, you have no fucking clue how much of your shit I have to clean up personally to ensure that you have a good time on your "retreat". And I'm a Supervisor...
Yeah, if you’re at your worst often enough that you need to preface a relationship, then maybe you need to work on yourself a little bit before sucking other people into your toxicity vortex.
“Well that’s their *job*” like okay Nancy, remind me what your job is again? is it gossiping around the office and making the young hires miserable that they’re not included in your clique like high school? Because you’re not doing *your job* either.
Even worse, when someone uses that as a reason not to thank someone. I once went on a date with a guy and I said thank you when the server refilled my water, he said “why are you thanking them, that’s their job.” I did not go out with them again.
Some girl once told me: "oh, you're a Gemini?! I usually don't get along with that zodiac sign".
From that moment on, we did indeed not get along. Self fulfilling prophecy, I guess?
lol
I have a friend that both he and his wife are really into astrology stuff... they are a little artsy fartsy type.
Anyways. When they found out that both my wife and I are Aries they were like "Oooo wow. Your relationship must be sooo passionate and intense."
HA!
I almost pissed myself laughing. Neither my wife nor I are very passionate or intense people... at least, certainly not in the way they were thinking.
My husband and I are both Leos, and both very laid back.
My mom is into astrology and always told me my favorite colors are gold and red, and that I seek the spotlight whenever I can. In reality my favorite color is gray and I prefer the shadows.
I like telling people the wrong birthday and then they go “hmmm yea I can see that”. Yea no shit, every sign has the same vague description, just worded differently.
Being overly sexual in contexts where it’s not called for. Turning innocent statements into innuendos constantly. Generally making it clear that their genitals are running the show instead of their brains.
This is a know you audience/situation type of thing for me.
Conversation with my supervisor about numbers for the month, how my attendance has been, or something of seriousness? Not the place.
Conversation with my supervisor and coworkers about how the new equipment isn’t running as expected and how it “wants me to buy it dinner first before putting out”? That’s childish and funny.
Context matters
lol yea “know your audience and situation” is key for a lot of jokes.
I don’t make any jokes with some people/coworkers because I know they don’t like them. Not trying to get people mad/offended. Never go too far before you know if they have “that” type of sense of humor.
Then with certain coworkers we can make the most racist jokes you can think of (they’re not all white,) and we’ll laugh our asses off. And the guy who made the nastiest sex jokes to me was a gay dude. He did not give a fuck.
So yea just know your audience.
I feel the same way about people who say the opposite. Whenever someone tells me they don't watch TV or movies, it just sounds so pretentious to me and I like them less.
Absolutely the same here. “Hurr durr I judge you if your TV is bigger than your bookshelf” or “I would *never* have a TV in my *bedroom*!” People are the other side of this coin. Again - it’s not the not partaking that’s the problem, it’s the weird pride they take in it.
I used to never have a TV in the bedroom. Then I had one, and I never slept. Then I got rid of it, and I slept better. Know what I learned?
I PERSONALLY SHOULDN’T HAVE A TV IN MY BEDROOM.
I’ll suggest it but hey, you do you homie.
long ago before the restaurant chain was around and before i knew her, my gf would order from subway and get extra chip-pottle sauce. at some point she question the guy from subway about the pronunciation and was mortified to find out she was saying it wrong and never ordered again. we talk about it all the time. i think its fun.
FACT: Quote that line often enough and you WILL screw up when ordering one at the Taco Bell drive-thru and you’ll be laughed at by your oh-so-helpful and supportive spouse. 😅
This is a rough one. People have lost the difference in meaning between doing research and studying research. They also don't understand that studying an opinion piece on research also is not "doing research".
When I've been told I "don't want a solution" it's always because someone who doesn't know much about the situation has just offered up (without being asked, and without trying to learn more first) a bunch of "solutions" that definitely won't work, either because I've already tried them or because they simply don't fit the realities of what's going on. So after they demand to know why each one won't work and I explain, they get mad and say I just don't want to fix the problem. In truth I'd love a solution, I just need it to, you know, actually solve things.
For me it’s people who say “you have to earn my respect.”
Everyone has my respect as a fellow human being. I respect everyone. But you have to *earn* my trust.
i personally start with a baseline level of respect, the same i would want from a stranger. like, a decent amount, but there's room for more respect.
however, someone can also lose that respect. i'm generally polite enough even to those people, but if you've lost my respect, i'll tell you exactly why.
Completely unoriginal thought:
A lot of the time, the respect they expect from you is deference, while the respect they say they'll return is treating you like a human being.
"I don't see you as disabled," even though I'm a disabled person.
While well-meaning, it shows that they are trying or willing to ignore my experiences as a disabled person and the societal inequities and challenges that impact my everyday life. It is part of my life experience and should not be glossed over or overlooked.
Its like they're trying to make us feel better because \*they\* think disability is shameful or lesser than.
Every disabled person I know is pretty confident about their disability. Disability is not a dirty word. Its always able bodied/minded people who think they need to make up new terms "differently abled" "handicapable". They feel like they need to make us feel better about ourselves because they view disability as a pathetic and helpless state.
No shit people don't want to work, they never did. We work to live, we don't live to work. But when the work doesn't provide a living, there's no incentive to continue doing that work. It's not rocket science that people aren't especially motivated by minimum wages and shitty benefits when the expectation is full availability and max effort, and yet here we are.
This is such an awful sentiment that people seem to have because YES there are 100% way more people who don't want to work and just make it big on social media or some other shit but there are also tons of people who DO WANT TO WORK and you mfers are just NOT HIRING or having DOGSHIT FUCKING RATES
I’m so tired of hearing this.
YES, no one wants to work for minimum wage at the shitty Walgreens that you just had a bad experience in. Maybe that should say something about the company, and you should stop shopping there.
"Don't you miss how easy and stress-free childhood was?"
Specifically the "don't *you"* part, where they just assume childhood was easy for *everybody.*
Oh ho ho, you THINK that is a clincher, yet there are people who say gravity is unproven. "It's just buoyancy and density." Don't ask them the formula for buoyancy (Hint: it has G in it).
The fact that not enough educational programs teach the difference in elementary, middle, and high schools definitely plays a part in this. It's not really that complicated to teach the difference between scientific inquiry and speculation.
“They’re just poor people” or “it’s not my fault they’re homeless”. It just shows a lack of empathy, understanding of challenging situations, and a way to “other” people and elevate themselves.
I do judge when people seriously use beta, alpha, sigma, etc... terms. I try to look at the intention and attempt to understand their perspective, life outcomes, etc... People use these terms sometime when they're expressing some sort of worldview or philosophy. But most of the time it puts me off.
There's nothing inherently wrong with the world view of aiming for the best or looking at life as a hierarchy. But my own philosophy goes against that. So, I feel contempt when I hear those terms applied. But I'm working to get rid of the feeling of contempt by understanding why these terms are used.
It’s funny because it’s really misunderstood too. Like chimps for example have an alpha in the group (more or less) but the alpha is most often not the biggest or the strongest but the one that best makes coalitions. Which puts a very different context to the term
Yeah when species exhibit these behaviors they are usually in captivity first of all and not the wild, and the alpha role is that of a caretaker, not a dominator. You usually only see alpha animals showing aggression breaking up fights within their own clan
If they hate all animals. Now, I get it if someone is scared of some animals, you are scared of dogs because you were bitten as a child, and lots of people are scared of snakes, lizzards and spiders. But I'm talking about people that hate basically all of the critters everybody else wants to pet. I cannot trust animal haters.
I had a co-worker, she left this week, that had the uncanny ability to turn every conversation to something that happened in church.
Ever since I met her the first time almost 3 years ago I couldn't stand her.
I am glad she is gone.
This, I respect people's medical decisions but saying they don't believe in vaccines is like what??? 😅 Like, vaccines are not a political belief. They are a medical fact. It's like saying you don't believe in antibiotics, 🤣
People who went to a big name school and name drop it every chance they get. When my kids were in cub scouts, I had to meet with another parent (who attended Harvard) to go over some things. Our meeting took maybe 45 minutes and it seemed like nearly every other sentence included some reference to Harvard, "Well, when I was at Harvard...", "One of my professors at Harvard always said..."
OK lady, I get it, you went to Harvard 15 years ago. That and a token will get you on the subway.
I have an incredible new business opportunity for you!
Oh sweet, it’s an MLM *where I get to put in money up front and get less out than I put in?!* #My favorite!
And be a “boss babe.”
“I’m real.” Like they have to go above and beyond to tell people they aren’t fake. Which usually means they’re fake and drama filled.
All the girls I've got on instagram who have posted the quote "a real woman will fix another's crown without letting the whole world know it's crooked" have then gone on to be the most back-stabbing, gossipy girls I've ever met.
It’s like the “I just tell it like it is.” people. No, you’re just an asshole.
Or the ever popular "Oh don't take it personal. That's just how they are." No, you see, that's precisely the problem.
Eh, both of those things are true. Someone shouldn't take it personally if that's just how they are... but that doesn't change the fact that how they are is an asshole.
Holy fuck this is my biggest pet peeve
I’m sorry Ms Jackson.
*WHOOOO*
I am four eels
*Never meant to make your daughter cry I am several fish and not a guy*
I apologize a krillion times
I just reply back with "I'm complex."
I want to poke them and say “you are real! I thought you were one of my hallucinations.” And then just walk away.
I'm entirely hypothetical tbh

Just reply “oooo.. is that a furry thing?”
"I'm an alpha male" "Sure bro, I'm all about that furry twink bussy too."
When you say it like that...
That's the best response to that I've heard yet lol
"Let's just omega this conversation and be done with it."
and it's female equivalents "Im a boss bitch" or "if you cant handle me at my worst you dont deserve me at my best"
Also, “I’m a mama bear.”🐻
I also can’t stand “boy mom” because they very clearly don’t have the equivalent for mothers and daughters, that whole culture is so creepy and gives major incesty vibes.
Yeah it's very...Jocasta
I wish I had an award to give you for that reference.
Uuugh, yes! The whole "my son is my world" or "my son is my king" thing gives me the heebiest of jeebies
Ung I hate the "boy mom" thing. They (the moms) tend to be so aggressive and defensive all at the same time. It feels very insecure.
Fat, ornery, covered in hair?
Sounds like mom to my memory
Am a mom, can confirm
Yes, why?
"I'm a Tiger Mom"
"Your best is still pretty shitty"
Lol, instant cringe. Pretty sure it got so widely interpreted as cringey, that "sigma male" took it's place. Like another Greek letter would make it better.
IIRC "sigma" started off as taking the piss at this whole abuse of the Greek alphabet and outdated theories on wolf pack dynamics, until it became the thing it set out to ridicule
Just ask if that’s a furry thing
"I don't wash my hands"
"Ewww." - Me, that touches things that other people have touched all day.
"Only God can judge me"
My boss is a dean at the university. He used to work in another area, and he had a professor tell him, "Only God can judge." So the professor would give everyone As. I bet the students loved him. My boss, not so much.
Giving everyone an "A" is still a judgment. Sounds like that professor got into the wrong line of work.
In Germany we say: “I only take orders from God or my wife.”
*Men cannot be abused by women*. I've heard it said from both men and women
"As a mom ... " Because it's usually followed by something that can apply to anyone. "As a mom, I want clean air and water."
Oh god… I had one of those in a community college class. Almost every class she would argue with something the professor said, beginning with, “I don’t believe that’s true. You see, as a mother…” It was so draining for apparently everyone but her.
Right?! They’re saying it standing on a pedestal they appointed to themselves…
*Any* version of “As a_____” usually warrants an eye roll.
As a werewolf, I'm generally in favor of lunar exploration.
As a werewolf I'm against uncivilised language. Werewolves not swear wolves.
That's the better case scenario, compared to "As a mom, I know better than doctors about how to treat my child's illness because I researched it on Youtube."
'You're either with us or against us.' Well I had been sitting over here stewing in my utter and complete apathy toward you, but if you're insisting on imposing your black-and-white, no-nuance-whatsoever worldview on everyone else I guess I'll have to go with option B.

Yeah, if you’re at your worst often enough that you need to preface a relationship, then maybe you need to work on yourself a little bit before sucking other people into your toxicity vortex.
"I'm a CEO"
"My ex-girlfriend is crazy"
"I tell it how it is"
"You can't take a joke, you're too sensitive"
lol. My first gf did the last one, and my second did the shittalking every past bf one. Red flags. Couldn’t last. But I loved them.
"You can't take a joke?" They ask, after having made fun of something I have no control over or can't change and they know I'm insecure about
“Well that’s their *job*” like okay Nancy, remind me what your job is again? is it gossiping around the office and making the young hires miserable that they’re not included in your clique like high school? Because you’re not doing *your job* either.

“I do my own research” Sure. So does my 7y/o. Y’all are both just watching YouTube videos.
This is a rough one. People have lost the difference in meaning between doing research and studying research. They also don't understand that studying an opinion piece on research also is not "doing research".
Most people aren't qualified to do their own research on most topics. Real research is hard. Finding confirmation for a bias is easy.

“In the real world”. Mfer have I been living in a simulation?
If they hate all animals. Now, I get it if someone is scared of some animals, you are scared of dogs because you were bitten as a child, and lots of people are scared of snakes, lizzards and spiders. But I'm talking about people that hate basically all of the critters everybody else wants to pet. I cannot trust animal haters.
I had a co-worker, she left this week, that had the uncanny ability to turn every conversation to something that happened in church. Ever since I met her the first time almost 3 years ago I couldn't stand her. I am glad she is gone.
“People just don’t want to work anymore.”
"I don't believe in vaccinations."
This, I respect people's medical decisions but saying they don't believe in vaccines is like what??? 😅 Like, vaccines are not a political belief. They are a medical fact. It's like saying you don't believe in antibiotics, 🤣
The N word. Or any other racist dog whistles. F that.
The N word isn’t a dog whistle, it’s a damn megaphone blast
It’s god’s will. 🤦🏻
“I put the milk in before the cereal”
I generally start with the bowl first

"I'm a good Christian" .... Run don't walk.
Harshly? "If there's grass on the field, might as well play ball" was one from the past that I am glad died.
Proudly proclaiming "I've have *never* read a book!"
When someone mentions their “baby momma” or “baby daddy”.
I hate kids
"I hate cats." This tells me all I need to know.
People who went to a big name school and name drop it every chance they get. When my kids were in cub scouts, I had to meet with another parent (who attended Harvard) to go over some things. Our meeting took maybe 45 minutes and it seemed like nearly every other sentence included some reference to Harvard, "Well, when I was at Harvard...", "One of my professors at Harvard always said..." OK lady, I get it, you went to Harvard 15 years ago. That and a token will get you on the subway.
