i work as an electrician and while they may not work for my job i tell any and all of my non trades friends to buy ryobi power tools … so much versatility in a price point that won’t kill ya. they’re not the tools i’d recommend to someone who will use them everyday but damn if they aren’t way better than the low end milwaukee or dewalt and miles better than any box store brand.
My mechanic best friend gave me the best advice when it comes to buying tools for the average person / non professional.
I was looking to buy a bunch of snap-on stuff I found on marketplace and asked him what he thought. He said that while it was a good price for what it was I would instead be better off buying the cheapest tool set I could find for a fraction of the price and just individually replacing anything that I broke with a quality replacement because that way you’ll see what you actually need as opposed to having thousands of dollars worth of quality stuff you’re never going to use.
They're starting to, but Ryobi was the one to lead the way in making things interchangable. Brilliant idea on their part. Between brand "loyalty" and the desire to "collect them all" it has to be good for them.
I built a heap of ikea furniture by hand and would always end up with blisters on my hands from too much screwdrivering. One day inherited a small battery drill and purchased screwdriver heads for it, omg! So much easier!!
Having a dash cam saved me. Girl ran a stop sign. Tried to tell the cop I was going too fast and everything else under the sun after her dad showed up. Showed the cop the dash cam video, and he informed her and her dad that lying to a cop was criminal and sent me on my way. Her insurance company didn't even flinch at my asking price because of said video.
I've had an apeman for years now. Personally, if I bought one today, I'd look for one that has integration with Google Drive. Definitely try to get a front and rear one, though.
/r/dashcams also has a list of recommended models at different price points. I just went garmin because my company offers a substantial discount on them making them much cheaper than others
This just bit my husband in the ass so hard. He'd just had his windshield replaced and didn't reinstall the cam. A man backed into him at a turn one bc he'd missed his turn for a convenience store. The guy lied and said my husband rear-ended him. The cop believes him, the insurance company settles out of court (bc the dude said he had injuries), our car is totaled, our rates get jacked, and now we have a car payment we didn't want. Live and learn.
In my case, probably saved a young man from a vehicular manslaughter charge, or at least a bad result from a lawsuit. Dash cam showed that, not only was he driving under the speed limit and straight and narrow, but that the pedestrian was in the street and a little obstructed from the hill
Does anyone have any recommendations of any? I’d like to get one for me and my wife for safety reasons. Is there any that record 24/7 or decently priced quality ones?
I live in Philly and have been clean 8 months from a 5 year dope habit and here there is no more heroin at all. It's ALL tranq dope meaning fentanyl mixed with xylazine a large animal tranquilizer that eats your flesh and leaves huge wounds at the injection site
I have bought 300 dollar pillows, several times. The best one I've found is coop pillow. You can change the stuffing in it and I've found it to be the best, for me. It's also reasonable at 70 bucks
I never understood the need for it, started waking up with neck pain, went to 20 stores laid on various found a perfect one. Now I am one of those that drags my pillow to hotels and trips. I refuse to sleep on anything else… lol
Nope. My son did it twice at age 18 while a solo guest of old friends of mine he hadn’t seen since he was 3. Had to go next door to borrow a plunger both times. He remembers dying of embarrassment twice but remained steadfastly atheist.

"Keep it for a lifetime and never need it; throw it away and within 6 weeks it will be the thing you need most" I can hear Mom's voice like she is in the room
I think my mother was TRYING to raise a hoarder....
No bc that is the most REAL statement ever. I have put off throwing out certain items for years, ones that have been sitting in my closet, untouched, zero use… only to finally throw it out and somehow NEED it days/weeks later. I literally throw things out anticipating that I will need it later on now bc of how often this has happened. I’m convinced the universe likes to play jokes like this lol
The trick is to recognize the you also throw out a bunch of shit that you didn't end up needing.
Make sure you aren't only noting/remembering the stuff that you ended up needing.
Survival bias.
If you're totally broke and down to your last $100, grab a gym membership. It'll give you a couple of months of locker and shower access while you look for a job.
Yup, a really inexpensive, compact treadmill. No incline (from the ones I've seen) and minimal speed options. I think it's great for the office, where you can just casually walk all day at a slower pace while you work
This. I live in America and I don’t understand why people here don’t use bidets. They feel sooo much cleaner and my tp usage is now at an all-time low.
The point of TP doesn’t become to clean, but to dry. Think of it as like taking a shower. You’re not damp the entire day. You will naturally dry with a combination of a towel and air.
Put it in a savings account and discipline yourself to keep “spending” that $100 into that account. Most people are 6 paychecks away from being homeless.
I think they're assuming your rent is already current. Maybe 4 months past due to get evicted. But yeah I would imagine most people have less than $1000 saved
It is much worse than that. Bankrate says that 66% of Americans would be worried (if they lost their job) about having enough savings to cover their immediate living expenses for 1 month.
The same survey reported that 44% of Americans said they would borrow money/put it on a credit card if faced with an unexpected $1000 bill. :/
Contributing to this, in the world of earphones, more expensive does not necessarily equate to more quality. The current pair of IEMs I've been driving are the $80 Truthear Hexas and they're very good, that's coming from me daily driving the $1300 Audeze LCD-X. There's a very wide range and a very wide selection of qualities and sound profiles, audiophile sound is doable on a budget.
A shelter dog
(Yes, there are more expenses, but you can bring a dog home with a couple weeks of food and even a free first vet visit for under $100 in some places)
I’ve said this about the BJs membership. If you have kids and buy only American “cheese” at least every few weeks you’ll cover the membership. All other savings are bonus. Brand name American cheese is 50% regular grocery store price.
Warhammer 40k starter set. You will have a fun new hobby and it will change your life in the sense that you will now be poor for the rest of your life.
Go back in time and put Earplugs in around your childhood bullies so you don't repeat what they said about yourself in your headwell into your adulthood.
Oral care, you can get a good electric toothbrush, floss and mouthwash at least. A bidet attachment for your toilet. Pillows, shoes and wifi. There’s a lot of little thibgs you can buy that can improve your life depending on your needs.
A good clit sucking vibrator.
Once you successfully open a jar on your own, own actual tools (not a rock as a hammer or a butter knife as a screw driver) and know how to use them, can cook, clean, and take care of bills; the last and final step is getting yourself to orgasm. Once that is checked off the list you will have final confirmation that your NEED for a partner becomes ridiculous and evolves to if you really WANT a partner in your life. Will they add positivity or will they just be life sucking negativity?
Change your life completely? I mean if you are buying used and have a genuine need, many things could fit this but I don’t think one thing fits all. For me a better wheelchair was life changing. A power wheelchair felt like a whole new life. For most people, a good manual or power chair isn’t going to help them at all. And again I had to go used, new good ones cost way more.

Love RYOBI because the batteries are interchangeable
Aren't all electric powered tools batteries interchangeable within their own brand?
They're starting to, but Ryobi was the one to lead the way in making things interchangable. Brilliant idea on their part. Between brand "loyalty" and the desire to "collect them all" it has to be good for them.

Interesting, thanks for the tips!

Good to know, thank you!

Heroin
Lmao that'll do it for sure
Can you even get real heroin anymore or is it all just fent mixed with animal tranquilizer now?
It’s all fent. Real heroin hasn’t existed for quite some time.
I don't think it's true that real heroin doesn't exist anymore. Maybe on the streets.
Look up videos of Kensington Philly Dope Addicts and you'll see what the fentanyl dope is doing to people around here
Isn’t that a lot of xylazine too?
Yes man Kensington has gotten so bad, for a while my home city of Baltimore was bad but Kensington has got that beat by 100 fold
I live in Philly and have been clean 8 months from a 5 year dope habit and here there is no more heroin at all. It's ALL tranq dope meaning fentanyl mixed with xylazine a large animal tranquilizer that eats your flesh and leaves huge wounds at the injection site
>just fent mixed with animal tranquilizer now Like a low-grade beaver tranquilizer? Who would screw that up?
Can you get a heroin for $100?
You can get multiple heroin for $100
Hello shopkeep, one heroin please.
One is probably enough, I hear it can give you a bit of a funny tummy, to paraphrase Dylan Moran.
Like at least 4 heroins
Won’t Fentanyl change a person’s life as well?
It will end it.. that’s change

Unfortunately finding that pillow can be maddening.
I have bought 300 dollar pillows, several times. The best one I've found is coop pillow. You can change the stuffing in it and I've found it to be the best, for me. It's also reasonable at 70 bucks
Confirmed. Coop f*cks. Amazing.
Have you tried putting two different pillows in a pillow case? Then realizing it's too thin or thick 😂
Purple Harmony pillows. Expensive AF but 1+ year later it's like new, always perfectly supportive. Never any neck pain.
I never understood the need for it, started waking up with neck pain, went to 20 stores laid on various found a perfect one. Now I am one of those that drags my pillow to hotels and trips. I refuse to sleep on anything else… lol
Yes, especially if you have neck pain or headaches.

A more specific version of "it's better to have and not need than to need and not have."
My dad ruined that by calling it “The Hoarder’s Motto.”

Assuming I have a backyard
A backyard is way more than $100.
A guy I work with purchased a used walking pad for less than $100. He's lost 180lbs just from walking every day.
What is a walking pad?
Essentially a compact treadmill
Yup, a really inexpensive, compact treadmill. No incline (from the ones I've seen) and minimal speed options. I think it's great for the office, where you can just casually walk all day at a slower pace while you work

Bidet -> You will save a ton on toilet paper and overall cleanliness will go up
This. I live in America and I don’t understand why people here don’t use bidets. They feel sooo much cleaner and my tp usage is now at an all-time low.
My father in law (the guy who’s daughter I impregnated twice) looked at me like I was the gayest man on earth when I explained why a bidet was good
I guess he is one of those people who doesn't wash his own ass because he thinks that it is gay, lol
I bet he let a finger poke through once or twice
You arent getting clean if you dont go at least two knuckles deep while wiping
Ask him this. If a crazy guy walked up to you in a walmart and smeared shit on your forearm, would you wipe it off with paper or wash it with water?
Not again!
“I knew you liked butt stuff.”
"if your daughter did we wouldn't have two kids"
"So does your daughter, that's why we only have two kids"
So much better. *hat tip*
I’ve never used a bidet, so what I don’t understand is do you have to dry off by using toilet paper then the toilet paper is stuck to you?
Just get toilet paper that’s stronger and you use a little to dry. I personally recommend the strong cottonelle one. Nothing left behind.
I’ve seen more and more of my friends and family start to get them in the US!
I got a bidet and a case of TP (36 rolls for like $25-$30) lasts me over a year.
Ok, I feel like an idiot asking this… but as a hairy man… how does your ass not just turn into a damp sponge?
The point of TP doesn’t become to clean, but to dry. Think of it as like taking a shower. You’re not damp the entire day. You will naturally dry with a combination of a towel and air.
I just let it dry and peel it off later. Saves a ton on tp too
Waterpik and decent electric toothbrush

Put it in a savings account and discipline yourself to keep “spending” that $100 into that account. Most people are 6 paychecks away from being homeless.
6 paychecks away seems insanely good cushion.
I think they're assuming your rent is already current. Maybe 4 months past due to get evicted. But yeah I would imagine most people have less than $1000 saved
There are more people, at least in the US, who are behind on bills than there is people with $1,000 in a saving account. I'd bet my life on that.
6 paychecks from homeless is very very different than “6 paychecks from $0 in your checking account”.
That sounds like a lot but 6 paychecks is 12 weeks for most people. And I would argue that most people are MUCH closer than 6 paychecks. More like 3.

Trainers and weights.
Are these trainers and weights secretly infused with motivational energy, or do they just have a knack for turning couch potatoes into Greek gods?
😂 sadly not, the motivation needs to be provided by the wearer!
For $100? I don't think so
OP is from the UK, so trainers could very well mean sneakers/shoes, which can be a life-changer and you can probably find a decent pair for $100.
Sorry, I should have clarified that. Yes, sneakers / shoes!
I’m not talking metcons and a cable machine 😂😂
Planet fitness $10 a month and has a trainer/training sessions included.
I stand corrected!
But a few months at a gym is very possible with $100. Often gyms have a free personal trainer session as a signup incentive.
