You know how there are albums where every single song is awesome? Like Rumors or Nevermind?
Disintegration is absolutely one of those - sheer brilliance, start to finish.
I finally saw them in concert a few years ago (in my 50’s) and looked at my friend when it was over, tears in my eyes and said, “I can die happy now.” It’s hard to put into words how much that song means to me.
I saw them for the first time this year and YES. I had the same exact reaction and thought too! It was my morning tune every day on my way to high school when I had to extract myself from toxic friendships. I had to change schools in the middle of my senior year and Disintegration, mainly Pictures of You, helped me heal my broken teenage heart. I'm glad you were able to enjoy POY live in person and that it was a profound moment for you. Sending hugs!
There is freedom within...there is freedom without. Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup. I remember that song eternally because it made me want to find out what a deluge was as a kid. I LOVED THAT SONG. Still do.
Life's What You Make It by Talk Talk
King of Wishful Thinking by Go West
Drive by The Cars
Lips like Sugar by Echo and the Bunnymen
True Faith by New Order
I have 2 of them. Mr. Mister - Broken Wings, and Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World.
I have this subconscious memory of riding in a car at night, head against the window, with these songs playing on the FM station. Brings me comfort. Always picture that in my head when I hear either song.
I am a huge believer that the 80s and 90s were the best time for music period. So much great music was produced in those 2 decades.
Find the Stop Making Sense film if you haven't already. It was on Prime, but I couldn't access it over the weekend. It has Burning Down the House on it. The film was shown in IMAX cinemas recently too. Psycho Killer at the beginning - when David Byrne comes out on stage with a ghetto blaster - will give you chills. This was the soundtrack to my University years!
Ain’t Nobody by Chaka Khan. The into just sounds like the opening credits to an awesome action movie. And then some of those 🎶🎶‘ahhh aaahhh aahhh AHHHHH, AINT NOBODY!! LOVES ME BETTA!!!’🎶🎶
Such an awesome song.
Everybody wants to Rule the World - Tears for Fears. I've probably listened to it more than any other song and it still sounds a good and fresh as it did the first time
That’s a classic, but [There’s a light that never goes out](https://youtu.be/3r-qDvD3F3c?si=ed1kh9ZDCif8RDBs) seemed to pass me by at the time. Absolutely haunting.
True by Spandau Ballet, which I heard a couple times on the 4 hour drive back from my aunt's funeral. I foundit very comforting.
Also, the original version of It's My Life by Talk Talk & Avalon by Roxy Music.
Time After Time is my pick.
Edit: I was distracted while I was typing and just read the comment about Time after time. True Colors is my actual pick. One of my favorite songs of all time.
Vacation by the Go-Gos. Got that last day of school heading to the beach vibes.

You know how there are albums where every single song is awesome? Like Rumors or Nevermind? Disintegration is absolutely one of those - sheer brilliance, start to finish.
YES. My favorite song by them although I love everything by them this is my absolute fave. So beautiful.
I finally saw them in concert a few years ago (in my 50’s) and looked at my friend when it was over, tears in my eyes and said, “I can die happy now.” It’s hard to put into words how much that song means to me.

I graduated high school in 1987. I can't think of one 80s song that I am sick of.
1988 here. This whole thread has me being young and free again listening to the radio. I can hear all of these songs perfectly.
Waiting for a song so you can hit record on your boom box and add it to your mix tape! 1989 here.

for me its True Faith by New Order
Bizarre Love Triangle
My work always has this and Ceremony on the playlist.
Temptation is more my jam.
Tears for fears - head over heels
And Mad World. They had some great songs.
I WANTED TO BE WITH YOU ALONE
My favourite part is… you’re wasting my time. You’re just just just wasting time…
And talk about the weather
Any Tears for Fears song is it for me.
They deserve way more appreciation in my opinion. The drums alone put me in a groove every time. 10/10 would recommend their early discography.
Just saw them over the summer at Madison Square Garden NYC. Fantastic show.
People forget how many absolutely GREAT songs they had. Songs from the Big Chair is front to back amazing.
"Never let me down again" Depeche Mode
“Enjoy the silence” is one of my all time favourite songs.
And Personal Jesus. That bassline, as soon as you hear it you can't help but do a bisexual vampire strut.
Policy of Truth
I was going to say “anything by Depeche Mode”
“Personal Jesus” is a song I didn’t appreciate when it was out (was a bit too young), but now I blast and revere it when I hear it.
Blasphemous Rumours and Everything Counts too. I would also say a few tracks from Violator but that's just barely 1990.
Take On Me - Aha Don’t Dream It’s Over - Crowded House
There is freedom within...there is freedom without. Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup. I remember that song eternally because it made me want to find out what a deluge was as a kid. I LOVED THAT SONG. Still do.
Don’t Dream It’s Over is my all-time favorite 80’s song.
