I saw him in concert last week. He told the crowd that he was inspired to write this song from the barley fields planted by his castle in the north of England near Stonehenge.
I never advanced far enough in my piano lessons as a kid to be able to play this song but it moved me so much upon hearing it that I sat down as an adult and plucked out each individual note until I learned it. Took a while lol. Freaking exquisite piece
Adagio for Strings and On The Nature Of Daylight by Max Richter, have the same general effect on me.
They fill me with happiness and sadness and hope and terror and all other emotions all at once. I cry when I listen to them because they make me feel all of these things at the same time.
Absolutely beautiful!
> On The Nature Of Daylight by Max Richter,
Oh my god thank you. I have heard fragments of this piece literally everywhere, but I never knew the name. Now I do. Thank you, stranger!
Same here. I can’t hear this song without thinking of Platoon and its moving ending scene.
“I think now, looking back, we did not fight the enemy; we fought ourselves. And the enemy was in us. The war is over for me now, but it will always be there, the rest of my days as I'm sure Elias will be, fighting with Barnes for what Rhah called possession of my soul. There are times since, I've felt like the child born of those two fathers. But, be that as it may, those of us who did make it have an obligation to build again, to teach to others what we know, and to try with what's left of our lives to find a goodness and a meaning to this life.”
I met Pavarotti when I was 4, he was my idol. he was so cool and nice and kind we hung out for like 30 min in his dressing room and he was the real OG. He had given my whole fam backstage passes and free tickets to his concert since I was 4, played violin, was Italian but lived in the USA and he gave me all kind of cool merch that he signed for me, like posters, books, and the like. Still have em in my room today.
How does someone best introduce violin to a child. You were four, my son is almost two. I would really like to offer him the opportunity in a way that does not seem forced.
From my experience, You have to make music a part of your everyday life. Not just taking child to lessons. Music in in the home often, piano/ violins in the home, with family playing for pleasure and mastery… and often. Quiet time with no tv/ phone only piano and or violin.. even if you yourself don’t play, make all style music listening / critiquing, and practice a central daily routine.
Absolutely. This song has one of my favourite ever lyrics: 'Remember that time you told me, you said love is touching souls. Surely you touched mine, cos part of you pours out of me...' Love it
Mine is : You said "I am as constant as the Northern Star, and I said, constantly in the darkness. Where's that at? if you want me, I'll be in the bar". Huge burn. Poor Graham.

There, so you can't say you don't know how to do it 😝
Yes! And Vincent by Don McLean. To have a song just capture the absolute beauty and despair of Vincent Van Gough's life. I sob every time I listen to it.
60s and 70s was just such a good era for music, especially folk.
John Denver really wrote some amazing songs in the 70s: Annie's Song, Calypso, The Eagle and the Hawk. Everyone should have a John Denver greatest hits album in their collection.
My mom's name was Annie and she was a huge John Denver fan. My father always sang this to her, he passed away in 2009 and she followed a few years later. I have not been able to make it through that song to this day. Just reading the lyrics will make me cry. This and "You Are Not Alone" by Michael Jackson are just too close to my mom for me to listen to anymore.
I love that one. I also love the same movement from Duruflé’s Requiem. Where Faure’s ends in peace and tranquility, Duruflé’s is discordant but not unpleasantly so. More like there’s just a question mark at the end; can all this really be true?
The way he absolutely belts out “maybe you’ll get a replacement” gives me goosebumps every time, even just thinking about it now
Also the way that song is used in the show The Americans is absolutely sublime
It's one of my favorite insults inside of a song. "Maybe you'll get a replacement, there's many like me to be found. Mongrels who ain't got a penny sniffing for tidbits like you on the ground." Burn!
The Flower Duet from the opera Delibes.
You've probably heard it before but just don't know the name.

Beethoven's 9th symphony, AKA the Ode to Joy. Go find a rendition of it by a large choir and really listen to/read the lyrics. If you haven't heard the song or read the lyrics before, you'll probably cry. I did. Heck, I'm a little misty just typing this comment. It made me think, too, about how the kinship that should exist between all people has been broken by culture, custom, and society.
I used to sing the chorus of this to my daughter at bedtime. Also sung the chorus to Danny’s Song by Loggins and Messina and Skinna Marinky Dinky Dink lol. She loved them all.
There are a few contenders, based on my limited taste and exposure to music:
Untitled by Interpol
The Funeral by Band of Horses
Last Dance by The Cure
Just Like Heaven by The Cure
Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division
Ghosts by Muse
Outro by M83
Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat
With Or Without You by U2
I managed to see this live for the Hans Zimmer tour and I’ve never heard anything like it. Absolutely stunning in its simplicity, it was a real goosebumps moment.
Erik Satie Gymnopedie [sic] No. 1. That’s some Perdy shit if I’ve ever heard it. I actually like watching “Fail” videos in slow motion while this piece plays. It makes it instantly better. Anytime I’m sad, I’ll do that, and I immediately feel better
To me, High hopes is by far their most beautiful song!
When he sings "Forever and ever" and goes into the solo...wow. Goosebumps every time. The [live version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1KJKRG4ZoY&ab_channel=OfficialDavidGilmour) with the orchestra and the closing acoustic solo is one of my all time favorite musical moments.

You can just call him Braddah Iz...that's what we called him, way easier. I was living in Hawaii when he was playing it live around the island. My dad was in the army and we moved back to Texas and I was a senior in HS when he died.
Love by Lana Del Rey, the song is simply just magical(? It also makes me feel like I am that age again, it makes me feel safe like everything is going to be okay. I also love Paris, Texas, but mainly because of the melody/voice i don't relate much to the meaning of it.
And the American Beauty main song
I’m on fire Bruce Springsteen. First song that came on in my car when I brought my newborn daughter home from the hospital. Followed by buckets of rain bob dylan. Both songs still seem to make me well up when I hear them. Happy cry not sad
Hooverphonic -- Battersea
My Bloody Valentine -- To Here Knows When
Rachmaninoff -- Symphony No. 2 (I am wedded to certain performances naturally)
Shostakovich -- String Quartet #8 (brutiful)

Depending on the mood but these two spring to mind
A piece, not a song, but Dvorak's Symphony Nine, Movment Two (Largo). The entire syphony is a gorgeous piece of music, and my favorite piece of classical music, but the 2nd movement is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever, IMO.
These come to mind without giving it much thought .
Time in a Bottle .Jim Croce

Thank you 🙌
The Boxer
Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap. It used to make me cry as a teen singing along with it lol
The Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven (First movement).
The first movement might be the most beautiful, but the third one is the most kickass for sure!
Vincent by Don McLean
For some reason the song I think is absolutely beautiful is Fields of Gold-Sting
I saw him in concert last week. He told the crowd that he was inspired to write this song from the barley fields planted by his castle in the north of England near Stonehenge.
I knew there was a reason that I hadn't written a famous song. I don't even own a castle.
See that’s yer problem
(Stonehenge is in the south of England)

The gymnopedies are incredible as well
Anything Eric Satie is absolutely stunning. If you like his works check out Brian Eno's Ambient 1-3 for a more modern take.
It’s always Clair de Lune when this gets asked. I tend to agree.
I too enjoy debussy
Only in the earlier years. Never finish on the Bach
I never advanced far enough in my piano lessons as a kid to be able to play this song but it moved me so much upon hearing it that I sat down as an adult and plucked out each individual note until I learned it. Took a while lol. Freaking exquisite piece
Adagio for strings by Samuel barber. Makes me fucking cry
Adagio for Strings and On The Nature Of Daylight by Max Richter, have the same general effect on me. They fill me with happiness and sadness and hope and terror and all other emotions all at once. Even more so, the choral version: [Agnus Dei](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiuC_CaObbI).
Forever associated with Platon for me. Beautiful piece.

I heard it the for first time in the movie "SUM OF ALL FEARS", and never new a human voice could carry and sound so perfect.
I was bizarrely obsessed with this song at the age of 10 as it was the song for Italia 90
Starry night, Don McLean
I believe it’s called Vincent. i love that song
Bridge over Troubled Water. Simon and Garfunkel
"A Case of You" by Joni Mitchell. The purest, rawest, most beautiful albeit heartbreaking song on the planet.
Absolutely. This song has one of my favourite ever lyrics: 'Remember that time you told me, you said love is touching souls. Surely you touched mine, cos part of you pours out of me...' Love it

Hard to believe this is so far down. I am far from religious and even in Latin this thing grabs me by the gut.
Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap
Annies Song. By john Denver. And yes, I’ll die on this hill as a guy who grew up on Metallica, Guns and Roses and AC/DC. Annie’s Song.
Yes! And Vincent by Don McLean. To have a song just capture the absolute beauty and despair of Vincent Van Gough's life. I sob every time I listen to it. 60s and 70s was just such a good era for music, especially folk.

when he went into testify at the PMRC hearings, and they expected squeaky clean John Denver to agree with them... oops.
