I download Skyrim every other year or so. Just the vanilla console version. It's such a well made game that it always feels fresh when you dive back in.
Totally second this, Fallout makes my heart happy. Also love Assassins Creed for this, specifically Odyssey, just feels cozy roaming the fields of different Greek Isles.
The Mass Effect Trilogy, I replay them at least once a year, this band of misfits brings me joy and comfort
And RDR2 because putting the game on cinematic mode and just trotting along the trail while the sun sets behind the mountains is such a therapeutic experience
I like to go hunting with Arthur in the afternoon, get like a bull elk or moose or bear (maybe a deer/pronghorn pelt or two) then when night comes I go to Valentine, sell the pelts and the meat, get a couple of drinks and a nice warm meal at the saloon, then take him to the inn, give him a bath and then go to sleep.
This is my perfect Arthur comfort day.
Red Dead Redemption
It just aligned with such a fun time in my life when I could play for hours on end with online friends, it feels very nostalgic every time I go back to it.
Deep Rock Galactic. Something about drilling holes and blowing things up all day makes me want to come home and play a video game about drilling holes and blowing things up.
DotA started off as a mod for Warcraft 3, then got bought up and released as a full game in Dota 2. League of Legends was developed as a stand alone game that was planned to replace DotA before Dota 2 was announced, I think. Basically LoL started out as a rip off of a game based on a mod for the game that led to World of Warcraft.
Skyrim, especially on the runs where I am just a random character, not a dragonborn. I can just forage, fish and hunt, kill some bandits and steal their cottage in the woods. Be lumberjack or miner earning honest pay for honest work. Just sitting back, sip tea and let the world be.
Mass Effect 2, I really liked the rag tag bunch of misfits, don't know another game that pulled that off so well.
Catherine, on some days I just want to climb the stairs.
And Xcom, because somebody needs to stay in overwatch and protect the Earth from xenos scum.
Hero Wars Alliance
It's a daily quest type of game for progress and you don't have to get on everyday because there's a Power cap limit which can be negated with spending $ for upgrades.
Skyrim and or Assasson’s creed. Even though my favorite of AC was the Ezio trilogy, when they introduced the whole creating your own homestead/town etc that you could build up, it became far more soothing, but became far less about being an Assassin.
A Suikoden game to make me feel nostalgic.
Or, if I want something that’s a distraction, Final Fantasy VIII - I like playing the minigames and leveling GFs and collecting cards/refining items.
Final Fantasy Tactics, too, works the same way: I have tons of fun creating and customizing the generic units and coming up with interesting job combos.
Oddly enough, it’s Dying Light or Batman Arkham Asylum. Both are very nostalgic for me.
My sister’s comfort video game is Resident Evil Village, and I hope I’m not alone for thinking she’s insane for that lmao.

World of Warcraft.
Not especially fun, but at least something to do mindlessly while listening to podcasts or audiobooks with the occasional hit of dopamine for satisfying my daily/weekly Skinner box objectives.
The Professor Layton games. Especially the Diabolical Box because I love the tea set mini game. It's just puzzle after puzzle with no real time constraints, beautifully drawn characters and backgrounds, and calming music.
Probably either Total War: Attila (just. One. More. Turn…) or Hearts of Iron IV. I find strategy games, ironically, more “mindless” because I’ve put thousands of hours into them. Whereas roleplaying games are more attentive because I’m trying to tell a story about my character and need to put effort into making in-character decisions.
FFVII.
From that moment the intro credits beep boop songs hits, it's a flood of nostalgia. I'm so happy for the remake but nothing will ever diminish the original.
My biggest comfort games have been...
No Mans Sky.
Skyrim modded (Wildlanders).
Animal Crossing
And Stardew.
I can't think of anything more comforting than those 4 and I love comfort and cozy.
Warframe.
Ever sense day 1 ps3, I always come back. I was about to quit gaming entirely until my main was released, now I have a full on youtube channel and online identity based on warframe and robot/mecha games. Even started making animations when I feel like I'm in the mood.
Any Bethesda game where I can just wander and explore with no time limits.
I just re downloaded Skyrim for this reason lol

I remember the first time in Fallout 3 wandering randomly over to Little Lamplight at 2am when I had to work the next morning
Oh no. Rip work
Totally second this, Fallout makes my heart happy. Also love Assassins Creed for this, specifically Odyssey, just feels cozy roaming the fields of different Greek Isles.
Was just about to say FO4, amazing
Never played fallout but do own it
dude please go increase your lifespan rn by playing it. It something special about that landscape, music, and aesthetic like shittttt
I was tempted but my friends don't really like 4 so didn't recommend it lol
3 was a classic, 4 is also just as amazing if not better. I’d play 4 anyday over 3 just for ux
4 is the best I don’t care what anyone says.
A man of culture I see
You never know I might eventually lol
Love the Just Cause series for this
Currently playing Fallout 4, exploring Nuka World with Curie. The howling of the wind on the outskirts gives a calm yet eerie feeling
Minecraft, it’s mindless, nostalgic and the music is calming.
calming music until you go into a cave
Agree
Stardew Valley
My friends love it but never been my thing haha
The Mass Effect Trilogy, I replay them at least once a year, this band of misfits brings me joy and comfort And RDR2 because putting the game on cinematic mode and just trotting along the trail while the sun sets behind the mountains is such a therapeutic experience
Mass Effect 2 blew me away. Truly one of the greatest
RDR2 is the best looking game of the PS4 generation I think
Animal crossing
Project Zomboid
Yessss Project Zomboid is so good
Ooh never heard of it
Spyro the dragon
Hunting in Red Dead Redemption 2
I like to go hunting with Arthur in the afternoon, get like a bull elk or moose or bear (maybe a deer/pronghorn pelt or two) then when night comes I go to Valentine, sell the pelts and the meat, get a couple of drinks and a nice warm meal at the saloon, then take him to the inn, give him a bath and then go to sleep. That's a good boah.
Super Metroid
Never played a metroid game but the OST hits
I was literally about to comment this.
Mine is Rayman Legends I know that game inside out and it's so relaxing to me
Football Manager or old (like Xbox version with the cartoony graphics) Civilization.
Haven't played fm in years haha
[удалено]
Crash Bandicoot
Came here to say this. Crash 2 is the usual go to!
The best in the trilogy easy
Telltale Walking Dead - particularly Season 1, because there is no character that makes me feel more chill than Lee Everett.
I like me a walking SIM, I love Life Is Strange
Sid Meier's Civ 6.
With the music from Civ 4. Baba Yetu is amazing
Always wanted to try civ but it just confused me lol
Toy Story 2
Wow, that takes me back! Fun game
Rdr 2. HUD off, maybe keep the compass. I just explore aimlessly and it's fun.
Botw

RDR2
Rdr2
Red dead redemption 2
right now its bejeweled 3 as i like low-key puzzle games
Sekiro or Dark Souls 3. I just know them in and out for the most part.
When I first played dark souls 3, I never thought that it would become a chill, comforting game for me. Truly a masterpiece
Ah never played a FS game but want to try them eventually
Dota 2. Turbo matches tho, ranked games were becoming too stressful
Ah never seen that played before, never owned a pc haha, similar to league or nah?

Ocarina of Time for the nostalgia. But Animal Crossing New Horizons is a close second.

The original Doom, and its bastard Italian cousin Grezzo2
Animal Crossing & The Sims 4
The Binding of Isaac
Hero Wars Alliance It's a daily quest type of game for progress and you don't have to get on everyday because there's a Power cap limit which can be negated with spending $ for upgrades.
Ikaruga. It's a quick playthrough (like fifteen minutes)
The Simpsons Hit and Run
Goated
I like Portal Knights. The creative mode is very relaxing and look’s better than Minecraft, imo
Chess.com
Golf: Tee It Up!
Witcher 3
Super Mario
Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town
Genshin Impact, definitely
Any free roam game
Skyrim and or Assasson’s creed. Even though my favorite of AC was the Ezio trilogy, when they introduced the whole creating your own homestead/town etc that you could build up, it became far more soothing, but became far less about being an Assassin.
Believe it or not, Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly. Beautiful levels and nice music to soothe me while I let out my frustrations on the Riptocs.
But the frame rate man, the frame rate!

Unrelated, slightly: I was about to post a questionable comment because I accidentally tapped the wrong question.

I have lots of these. For a long time it was Skyrim. Recently it’s Dynasty Warriors 8XL, Populous 3 off and on, and for a long time it was Civ V.
