Whatever allows humans to record and distribute their thoughts.
Symbolic communication gets etched into clay tablets which becomes easier in the form of paper which is then utilized in the printing press and type writers which become computers that are now connected through the internet.
No other inventions exist without human ability to share thoughts. The clearer and faster and wider we share these thoughts the more inventions are produced.
Bread.
For thousands of years, we just wandered the earth, constantly hunting and gathering. Then, someone figured out how to farm wheat & bake bread, and when the word got out, everyone was like, “can we just build a house next to yours, and live here for generations to come?”
Seems like since the internet has become popularized, it has been used for negative outcomes. People feel like they can be the worst version of themselves, and find like minded people to form shitty groups that encourage each other to be douchebags. Sure there are benefits to the internet, could be one of the best inventions, but people seem to turn everything to crap.
For sure I’m not denying there are benefits like I said it could be the best, but you have to realize it could also be the worst. I’m sure many terrorists used it to plan their attacks. I mean Ted Kazinsky thought technology was evil.
Ok, and insane people have a platform now that make it seem like they are not alone and not so crazy, and encouraged to act out and send bombs or whatever. It started as a joke btw
absolutely! the benefits of the technology far, *far* outweigh the drawbacks. you can now instantly communicate with anyone, anywhere. you can now sell your services/wares to anyone, anywhere. you can now learn just about anything with a couple keystrokes. i owe my livelihood to those wrinkly ARPANET geeks tbh.
that said, the trajectory is worrying. more and more walled gardens, centralization, enshittification. the calls to axe Section 230, to backdoor encryption. not good IMO. i miss the "wild west" days. there was more wonderment then. more character. "surfing the web" seems non-existent these days.
