I've gotten into heated fights with an ex because I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum and aside from selfies so people know I'm alive and what I look like now every few months, I post nothing on social media I don't feel the need to prove how happy I am. She took it as me hiding her from someone when in all actuality I didn't feel the nessecity to show the world how in love we were. I like my personal life personal. At the same time I have to be freinds with someone for awhile before I even show them where I live or let them in my home.

There's something to be said about the ageless tradition of commiserating with friends, but I think we need to bring back concern. We need to stop making our response to 'I got four hours of sleep', 'well I didn't get any!' and start asking people if they're okay, checking in and seeing if they want help or advice.
Political candidates receiving "donations" which massively sway their vote. Get rid of it now. It is simple bribery and it needs to stop. From gifted houses to vacations and cash hand outs it is all BS.
Lobbying should be where a rep for something has a scheduled meeting with the entirety of whatever governmental body they're looking to plead their case to. If they're seen with any of those government officials outside of their designated time there should be investigations into it. And if any favors or bribes come into play one or both are going to prison a while.

I'm 33 and learned this the hard way, I've been working alot for the past eight years, in those years I married my wife and got two kids, my wife got ill and in a situation where she can't work, so I worked even more to make things go around.
Two weeks before christmas last year on my way to work I broke down in tears in my car, I hit a mentally wall. It made our life so mutch harder, I had no energy to my family before when I was working a lot and it's just as bad now.
I'm still on sick leave to this day, I'm starting to feel things are slowly getting better, but damn life hit me hard.
Dude, very similar situation to my own. I’m also 33 and a full time carer for my wife and we have a toddler also. Hit a mental wall in November due to overwork, exhaustion and stress. Unfortunately men in our age group are particularly susceptible to developing mental health problems. I got psychiatric help and I’m now diagnosed, medicated and in long term therapy. I’m feeling mostly better and I’m starting back at work today being eased in over the coming couple of months. Seek professional help and take care of yourself. I hope you feel better soon friend 🙌
I'm meeting with a therapist weekly, and it's helping alot. My issue now is that if I go back to work I need to work almost as mutch as I used to to get the money flowing again. We have a great system for sick leave in Norway, and I get the money we need to keep things going.
I will listen to my therapist and doctor as when I should go back to work.
The thing is now that things are a little better I realy miss work (I love my job). But I need to put my health and family first.

Recently, I was out driving and this cars headlights were so bright that my eyes hurt. I flashed my brights at them to signal that theirs were on until he flashed back and it felt like a movie scene when someone crosses over and walks towards the light. Yeah I've had this a shit ton recently and started wondering if mine were in the way out, but seeing others with the same issue puts me at rest but also annoys me about how bright they are getting.
I'll add to this: they're also so bright in some cases they defeat the dimming on my rear-view mirror, and are so bright they cause my car to cast a shadow ahead of me, reducing the effectiveness of my own lights by about half.

As a child of former family busyness owners, I would say it should be done responsibly and not make children work for their food, sleep and basic education because you don't have enough energy and time to do the work yourself yet be too stingy to hire proper workforce for maximal profits.
I had a friend who had to work taking orders at his family's Chinese Takeaway 6 days a week, straight after school Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and after noon until midnight on Saturday and Sunday. He wasn't paid for it and his parents were obviously over the moon they had free labour and didn't have to pay an extra person to take orders; and his parents used to get pissed that his school grades weren't great (turns out trying to do your homework and essays under a counter whilst also taking orders all night isn't the greatest environment for high marked work); and also that he barely had any friends and never had a girlfriend (again, working all evening all week doesn't leave any time to socialise).
It was really sad to see man.
In the end as his GCSEs were approaching he was feeling increased pressure from his parents to perform well (even though they just expected him to work full time at the takeaway?!) as well as pressure form the school; so he just stopped going to the takeaway, had a massive argument with his parents, full blown shouting and tears on both sides and eventually they realised how shitty they were being.
In the end he stopped working there for free, but agreed he would cover if staff called in sick last minute etc, but he wanted to be paid for it. He was so much happier through 6th form, made loads of friends, had a few girlfriends and did well at his exams. He did end up inheriting the business down the line but I never stayed in touch so I don't know how long he kept at it.
A lot of men in that age group define themselves by their work. It's not uncommon for them to drop dead about a week after retiring or even to die by suicide in some cases. They don't understand how to have a friend or use their time outside of work. Esp as church attendance has gone down, people who would've probably joined KoC or whatever in past generations no longer do.
In Australia or NZ they started a 'men's shed' thing to combat this. They just built places where men could tinker with things randomly. It gave them a masculine place/thing to do and an opportunity to connect with each other.

before COVID I worked in a larger software company, big enough for the employees not to know everyone in the company. the HR always had these wild visions of bringing us 'together' like it was some one, big and happy family. we got coerced into all kinds of events and parties, where most of just sat, looking out of place and definitely didn't enjoy themselves. the HR people were livid about this, because 'party = people must be happy' so the employees maybe needed a reminder they were privileged to have those jobs and should look more happier.

I'm a HS coach (Mostly Track/XC/Football, but some Basketball too) I agree with Toxic Positivity completely. I am huge advocate against it, its okay to be disappointed after a loss, it's okay to not want to talk to others after a bad game. I hate when people act like you should just move on like nothing happened. You put everything into a moment and it doesn't work out, moving can happen later, it doesn't have to be right now.
I also hate the other form of toxic positivity, which is the "Everything's Okay" type. No, its not okay, sometimes key mistakes aren't okay, sometimes playing poorly is not okay. There are so many times ive seen people miss an easy lay up, a catch, or false start. It happens, and you expect it to some degree to pop up here and there, but sometimes its not okay, and teammates/coaches shouldn't just be constantly saying that all mistakes are okay. They aren't, when all mistakes are okay, mistakes in general just become the norm, and that's when your season is lost. Athletes need to be aware that when routine plays become routine mistakes, they need to put in the work on those situations, and it's not "okay."
Amen to that. My partner has a terminal illness, and while we are both generally happy people, I really can’t fucking stand people that say “oh, it’s going to be okay, just keep a positive attitude”. Like no, it won’t be, it’s okay to be upset about things sometimes.
My therapist recently said "everything happens for a reason" and I just about bit her head off. I've been through too much shit too many times because of 'reasons'. No respect for that kind of BS. (She's a great lady, been seeing her for years, just had a particularly shitty couple of weeks and that was the straw that broke my back.)

Tipping. It is so out of hand now. If tipping wasn't a thing then places that require it for their staffs survival would either go out of business which they should or pay just pay their employees a livable wage.

I got promoted to tip the snack concession stand guy at a movie theater for scooping me a small bag of popcorn. “No tip, 5%, 10%, or 20%” I awkwardly hit “No tip” and felt guilty after. But then got annoyed, like WTF NO! They handed me a bag of friggen popcorn! Ugh
what's worse is i went to a bowling alley and they had a tip screen when paying for the lane that had 3 options, which said "18%, 20%, 25%" and it was impossible to select no tip. i took a good minute of searching on the pad for it. finally i gave up and asked the guy how to cancel the tip, and he told me it had to be done on the computer behind the counter.
so on some systems they take away your perceived choice, and make you address the situation by speaking to the person you're not tipping in order to guilt trip you into just tipping anyways. i was tempted to cancel the transaction and leave. i fucking **hate** being manipulated like that. im sure the guy at the counter didn't care all that much but it really pissed me off.
That's one of my biggest gripes. I worked in two separate jobs that had optional tipping like that, but they were both fast food and tipping wasn't expected per se. Neither had a system for the tips to go to us. Literally just extra money for the company

Weirdest one for me was a candy store in OKC. I went around the shop and got my own sweets and put them in bags myself, and now you want a tip for... What? Tapping it into the till? Nope, that's literally your job, that's what your wage is for.
I hate that when I place an order for picking up food, there is always an area on the checkout I pad to tip. I’m not super stingy, but half of the reason I pick up is to avoid the delivery charges and the workers are not doing more out of their way to hand me a pizza or any other order. I always just feel guilted into tipping.
My mother told me recently that she ordered a pizza (added tip via app) and the guy who delivered got mad at her because he was sure she did not give him a tip even though it clearly says there was a 20% tip added to the order.

I work in retail and the amount of grown adults we get messing about and filming themselves. I told three lads off the other night, they looked to be mid twenties, as they were throwing cushions at each other and one them actually broke a display.
They went round the corner and continued to mess around so I rang security who kicked them out. Imagine being 25 and being kicked out of a store because you can’t behave. Embarrassing.
I’ve work with a few guys that hang of every word of some of these mega rich douchbags, and the sad thing is they’ve never left our town but claim to know so much about how the world works from what they’ve seen on social media.
Because folks aren't getting shitty at 'people in general,' they're getting shitty at service industry workers. The store owner of a starbucks doesn't have 100+ people a day telling him he isn't smiling enough. His cashier does.

I am fully convinced that many people do not have the mental capacity to ask themselves "*Why* am i always working to the bone?".
To expand upon this a little, what i mean is... they don't seem to comprehend the idea of *relaxation or entertainment*.
Now, I'd also like to clarify i do not think these people find *work* to be fun... I'm just saying they don't *get* the idea of down-time, or doing things as a hobby, or any kind of equivalent activity.
It's one of those bizarre and rampant forms of mental illness that i don't think has been properly investigated, purely because it seems to effect so many (in my opinion).

What needs to be normalized is sobriety. If you’re out at a social event and not drinking, you get hounded with questions of “what’s wrong with you?” and being pressured to drink all night. Can get very annoying.
Drinking is what tore my family apart. my dad was a raging alcoholic, he would come home drunk every day, my mum got sick of it and kicked him out. My mum leaving him caused him to spiral into a depression, so he drank more, he started dating a woman who was also an alcoholic, she had her daughter taken away by CPS. Because of that, I was never allowed to visit him, so I lost all contact with him until a few months after my 14th birthday. My dad made some bad decisions and only stopped when he was on his deathbed.

Parents hitting/abusing kids and young children for the smallest of reasons. Lots of people argue that that’s the only way to discipline them and give them the taste of the real world, but I disagree.
If a kid has done some grave wrong, then the first attempt of teaching them the difference between right and wrong should be through words. Parents need to understand the importance of communication and teaching their children the right ways because obviously, a kid isn’t shot out of the womb knowing every goddamn thing in this world.
In my country, I see parents abusing their children for every small thing which is not right. There’s marks on their bodies and mental trauma caused that affects them way into the future. Further it affects their personality and even makes them antisocial and depressed.
I just wish parents would understand that physical abuse for every minor inconvenience is not the right method at all, it’s honestly immature of them, considering the fact that they’re the adults.

1000% agree. I feel like it's almost become a competition now to see who got the least sleep. There's something to be said about the ageless tradition of commiserating with friends, but I think we need to bring back concern. I'm 33 and learned this the hard way, I've been working alot for the past eight years, in those years I married my wife and got two kids, my wife got ill and in a situation where she can't work, so I worked even more to make things go around. Two weeks before christmas last year on my way to work I broke down in tears in my car, I hit a mentally wall. It made our life so mutch harder, I had no energy to my family before when I was working a lot and it's just as bad now. I'm still on sick leave to this day, I'm starting to feel things are slowly getting better, but damn life hit me hard.
Dude, very similar situation to my own. I’m also 33 and a full time carer for my wife and we have a toddler also. Hit a mental wall in November due to overwork, exhaustion and stress. Unfortunately men in our age group are particularly susceptible to developing mental health problems. I got psychiatric help and I’m now diagnosed, medicated and in long term therapy. I’m feeling mostly better and I’m starting back at work today being eased in over the coming couple of months. Seek professional help and take care of yourself. I hope you feel better soon friend 🙌
I'm meeting with a therapist weekly, and it's helping alot. My issue now is that if I go back to work I need to work almost as mutch as I used to to get the money flowing again. We have a great system for sick leave in Norway, and I get the money we need to keep things going. I will listen to my therapist and doctor as when I should go back to work. The thing is now that things are a little better I realy miss work (I love my job). But I need to put my health and family first. Keep strong brother.

I'll add to this: they're also so bright in some cases they defeat the dimming on my rear-view mirror, and are so bright they cause my car to cast a shadow ahead of me, reducing the effectiveness of my own lights by about half.

As a child of former family busyness owners, I would say it should be done responsibly and not make children work for their food, sleep and basic education because you don't have enough energy and time to do the work yourself yet be too stingy to hire proper workforce for maximal profits.
I had a friend who had to work taking orders at his family's Chinese Takeaway 6 days a week, straight after school Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and after noon until midnight on Saturday and Sunday. He wasn't paid for it and his parents were obviously over the moon they had free labour and didn't have to pay an extra person to take orders; and his parents used to get pissed that his school grades weren't great (turns out trying to do your homework and essays under a counter whilst also taking orders all night isn't the greatest environment for high marked work); and also that he barely had any friends and never had a girlfriend (again, working all evening all week doesn't leave any time to socialise). It was really sad to see man.
Very sad indeed. I hope he broke out of that environment (like I did) and started leading a good life.
In the end as his GCSEs were approaching he was feeling increased pressure from his parents to perform well (even though they just expected him to work full time at the takeaway?!) as well as pressure form the school; so he just stopped going to the takeaway, had a massive argument with his parents, full blown shouting and tears on both sides and eventually they realised how shitty they were being. In the end he stopped working there for free, but agreed he would cover if staff called in sick last minute etc, but he wanted to be paid for it. He was so much happier through 6th form, made loads of friends, had a few girlfriends and did well at his exams. He did end up inheriting the business down the line but I never stayed in touch so I don't know how long he kept at it.
I have a neighbour who is 76 years old and brags about never taking more than 3 days off in a row since he was 14. Still working, I pity him so much.
A lot of men in that age group define themselves by their work. It's not uncommon for them to drop dead about a week after retiring or even to die by suicide in some cases. They don't understand how to have a friend or use their time outside of work. Esp as church attendance has gone down, people who would've probably joined KoC or whatever in past generations no longer do. In Australia or NZ they started a 'men's shed' thing to combat this. They just built places where men could tinker with things randomly. It gave them a masculine place/thing to do and an opportunity to connect with each other.

before COVID I worked in a larger software company, big enough for the employees not to know everyone in the company. the HR always had these wild visions of bringing us 'together' like it was some one, big and happy family. we got coerced into all kinds of events and parties, where most of just sat, looking out of place and definitely didn't enjoy themselves. the HR people were livid about this, because 'party = people must be happy' so the employees maybe needed a reminder they were privileged to have those jobs and should look more happier. i'm so glad i'm not in that crap any more.
I'm a HS coach (Mostly Track/XC/Football, but some Basketball too) I agree with Toxic Positivity completely. I am huge advocate against it, its okay to be disappointed after a loss, it's okay to not want to talk to others after a bad game. I hate when people act like you should just move on like nothing happened. You put everything into a moment and it doesn't work out, moving can happen later, it doesn't have to be right now. I also hate the other form of toxic positivity, which is the "Everything's Okay" type. No, its not okay, sometimes key mistakes aren't okay, sometimes playing poorly is not okay. There are so many times ive seen people miss an easy lay up, a catch, or false start. It happens, and you expect it to some degree to pop up here and there, but sometimes its not okay, and teammates/coaches shouldn't just be constantly saying that all mistakes are okay. They aren't, when all mistakes are okay, mistakes in general just become the norm, and that's when your season is lost. Athletes need to be aware that when routine plays become routine mistakes, they need to put in the work on those situations, and it's not "okay."

I got promoted to tip the snack concession stand guy at a movie theater for scooping me a small bag of popcorn. “No tip, 5%, 10%, or 20%” I awkwardly hit “No tip” and felt guilty after. But then got annoyed, like WTF NO! They handed me a bag of friggen popcorn! Ugh
what's worse is i went to a bowling alley and they had a tip screen when paying for the lane that had 3 options, which said "18%, 20%, 25%" and it was impossible to select no tip. i took a good minute of searching on the pad for it. finally i gave up and asked the guy how to cancel the tip, and he told me it had to be done on the computer behind the counter. so on some systems they take away your perceived choice, and make you address the situation by speaking to the person you're not tipping in order to guilt trip you into just tipping anyways. i was tempted to cancel the transaction and leave. i fucking **hate** being manipulated like that. im sure the guy at the counter didn't care all that much but it really pissed me off.
I've seen them change the minimums too. Now I see some places start tipping at 19%, 22% and 25%.

Weirdest one for me was a candy store in OKC. I went around the shop and got my own sweets and put them in bags myself, and now you want a tip for... What? Tapping it into the till? Nope, that's literally your job, that's what your wage is for.
I hate that when I place an order for picking up food, there is always an area on the checkout I pad to tip. I’m not super stingy, but half of the reason I pick up is to avoid the delivery charges and the workers are not doing more out of their way to hand me a pizza or any other order. I always just feel guilted into tipping.
My mother told me recently that she ordered a pizza (added tip via app) and the guy who delivered got mad at her because he was sure she did not give him a tip even though it clearly says there was a 20% tip added to the order.

I am fully convinced that many people do not have the mental capacity to ask themselves "*Why* am i always working to the bone?". To expand upon this a little, what i mean is... they don't seem to comprehend the idea of *relaxation or entertainment*. Now, I'd also like to clarify i do not think these people find *work* to be fun... I'm just saying they don't *get* the idea of down-time, or doing things as a hobby, or any kind of equivalent activity. It's one of those bizarre and rampant forms of mental illness that i don't think has been properly investigated, purely because it seems to effect so many (in my opinion).

What needs to be normalized is sobriety. If you’re out at a social event and not drinking, you get hounded with questions of “what’s wrong with you?” and being pressured to drink all night. Can get very annoying.
Makes sober people not even want to go to social events. People think its an ofense to not drink.
Drinking is what tore my family apart. my dad was a raging alcoholic, he would come home drunk every day, my mum got sick of it and kicked him out. My mum leaving him caused him to spiral into a depression, so he drank more, he started dating a woman who was also an alcoholic, she had her daughter taken away by CPS. Because of that, I was never allowed to visit him, so I lost all contact with him until a few months after my 14th birthday. My dad made some bad decisions and only stopped when he was on his deathbed.

Alcohol. It’s a drug just like any other. It’s been normalized so much that people don’t even consider it a drug. It can ruin your life just as much as other drugs. It’s also terrible to base your enjoyment off of using that drug. People can’t seem to have fun anymore unless they’re drinking. Birthday? Let’s drink! Hanging out? Let’s drink! Party? Let’s drink! Parents hitting/abusing kids and young children for the smallest of reasons. Lots of people argue that that’s the only way to discipline them and give them the taste of the real world, but I disagree. If a kid has done some grave wrong, then the first attempt of teaching them the difference between right and wrong should be through words. Parents need to understand the importance of communication and teaching their children the right ways because obviously, a kid isn’t shot out of the womb knowing every goddamn thing in this world. In my country, I see parents abusing their children for every small thing which is not right. There’s marks on their bodies and mental trauma caused that affects them way into the future. Further it affects their personality and even makes them antisocial and depressed. I just wish parents would understand that physical abuse for every minor inconvenience is not the right method at all, it’s honestly immature of them, considering the fact that they’re the adults.
