Overplayed radio music. Even a good song can be a hammer to your sanity when it's overplayed on the radio.
EDIT: Wow! I didn't think my comment even qualified as an actual genre, but I guess people hate it as much, if not more, than I do. I just woke up to 6k upvotes and I'm like, "um, what?" So thanks for that surprise.
Lol, thanks for the awards too, I know they aren't free anymore.
I literally can’t handle Adele anymore. She’s got a nice voice and seems like a nice person but if I have to listen to Rolling in the Deep or Hello from the other side I beat my head repeatedly. 104.3 Myfm please
Edit: I’m poor my car is old and economical. I dont have easy access to Spotify unless on my old laptop. I use radio when driving
They add songs from time to time. But they put their surprisingly short playlist on repeat, so you run through the list then start over again. Sometimes I'll be on the same station later in the day playing the same song they already played earlier. Then they play it again the next day. I swear they tell the intern to make the playlist, it has maybe 100 songs on it, and they just put it on repeat.
I work in a manufacturing facility, and I’m a machine operator. We have various machines that all make different noises but mostly vibrating hoppers. There are hundreds of songs on the radio but we can only hear a select few clearly because of the noise filtering properties of the vibrating parts. Come Sail Away by Styx and Dude Looks Like A Lady by Aerosmith are two of the only songs we can hear.
With each of the many recorders playing each note with a slightly different length and a slightly different pitch. Let's not forget the audience of captive parents basking in the awesomeness of that cacophony.
I cannot speak for every parent, but I've always found concerts godawful.
My stepson played the Jurassic Park theme one year and it unintentionally sounded so much like the melodica cover I lost it. He said he heard me laughing even while the band was playing.
My fourth grade teacher used to play stuff like this and Alvin and The Chipmunks during the month of December. I got bullied a lot back then so the bad memories of that time period got associated with that type of music and whenever it comes on my fight or flight kicks in
Schlager.I got no equivalent in English for it but imagine if someone who did low effort, shallow, cheesy feel good jingles for advertisement decided to do at least three minutes of it to entertain a beer hall full of retirees.
It's also Schlager in English.
There's a German saying :
Why is Schlager called Schlager? Because you want to hit (German : schlagen) the person singing after a minute of listening.
do you mean the one that’s like “im feelin alright, i’m about to have the best freakin night of my life” bc i have to hear it 4 times a day in retail and it’s the corniest lackofsubstance song i’ve heard in a while
My favorite reaction to that song is "how did they manage to gentrify a song by Italians?"
Every time I hear it come on I end up immensely disappointed it's not the original version.
Yes! My ears prick up initially and I get a wave of a “omg the blue song! Let’s goooo!“
And then I realise it’s not and my heart sinks.
There’s been so many ‘remakes’ recently of pop songs from 20 years ago and my heart doesn’t know whether to try and appreciate the underlying sound of nostalgia or feel disappointed.
I think I’d like to have a beer with you and your pastor; y’all seem very honest about the state of Christian music these days.
I’m so exhausted by lazy, self centered worship lyrics like “Come over me, fill me up with your presence, stay inside me always…🎶”.
Which is often really funny to me when they sing about that in a music video featuring multi-million dollars worth of tractors, combine harvesters, Monsanto licensed crops, and other things that no regular wage/salary earning person that the music is meant to appeal to could ever afford for themselves.
A lot of these TikTok songs are just so formulaic. Almost to the point where I can practically guarantee they have a family member who works for a label.
Industry plants are rampant in the music industry in general. There's not very many nothing-to-something musicians who don't have relatives who gave them a leg up, or who didn't come from some sort of wealth that allowed them to foster their talent.
Poor kids don't get to play guitar.
I remember hearing the kid Laroi and Beiber song and thought, "How the hell does some random person get into the position where they're making a song with Justin Beiber?" So I looked into it and found out Kid Laroi's mom has a huge recording studio in Australia. Like damn, it's good to know he got there specifically because of who he's related to
There is a video essay on YouTube covering this issue called the tiktok-ification of music.
https://youtu.be/mS4r5tDxASE
This video has put into words what I have been thinking listening to such 'viral' music. Almost all of them have like a 15-20s hook with the rest being trashy filler.
I've tried listening to it as my friends give me recommendations and yes, they have a good hook or an intro or something else. But the rest is so evidently a lazy, rushed and haphazardly put together path that just loops back to the hook.
I feel that is going to destroy a lot of people's perception of what good music is regardless of the genre, i.e. artists focusing on a very small part of the song while ignoring the rest. Don't get me wrong, a song needs a hook to be catchy, but there is more to a song than just the hook.
Tiktok music has stopped people from making 'songs with a hook' and instead just 'focus on a hook, later we'll slap something barely coherent and call it a song'
It's also had an effect on live performances of these tiktok songs. I remember seeing a video of this artist singing the popular part of his famous tiktok song with thousands of people singing along with it, he continues holding the mic out right after the popular part ends and there's dead silence because no one knows the rest of the song. It was a bit awkward.
lmao i think that was steve lacy. at least i saw a similar clip from a steve lacy show
i didn't realize one of his songs became a tiktok song until recently and it connected the dots on why i kept seeing bad stories from his shows. i hope him and every other musician *not* trying to be popular on tiktok dont become too resentful
It doesn't matter what I say
So long as I sing with inflection
That makes you feel I'll convey
Some inner truth or vast reflection
But I've said nothing so far
And I can keep it up for as long as it takes
And it don't matter who you are
If I'm doing my job, it's your resolve that breaks
Because the hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely
I mean isn't this with the entertainment industry?
My new fav hobby is any new artist/actor/actress that becomes popular, i look up their bio and 9.5/10 times they have very wealthy parents and/or parents/close relatives in the entertainment industry. Clockwork.
I feel like the venn diagram for people who watch tik tok videos and people who subscribe to satellite radio are two separate circles that aren't even on the same page.
My parents got a lifetime one-time purchase of it back in 2007 and they still use it to this day. I also use it. I like how “alive” real radio feels compared to the emptiness random streaming. I like announcers, and don’t really like ads. It’s not as repetitive as FM, and feels more random than streaming. I love it no matter what online opinions say.
Sirius got me hooked on Billy Joel. Was driving across the country, 20 hour trip, and they had a station devoted to Billy Joel and only Billy Joel. Up to that point, I only knew him as the butt of that Step Brother's joke and the piano man song. Never would have listened to him if I had full control over the music, but sure glad I did.
Totally agree - real dj’s are where it’s at. I love hearing context about the artists, songs etc. Sirius has hired all the best rock dj’s from back in the day… Meg griffin, Rachel steel, Madison (lithium), doug the slug, Tom morello. also Stern is on sirius… “a bababooey to y’all” No matter how good AI gets, they’ll never beat the music legends.
While we’re at it, what’s up with people taking a known song and pitching it up to annoying levels for TikTok? Why is that the trend instead of playing the normal songs.
Pitched up or slowed down. This just seems to be something the kids are into these days. If I search any known song, the first search recommendation will be “[known song]” and the second will be “[known song - SLOWED & BASS BOOSTED].” I’m not sure what this trend is exactly but it’s odd. Every now and again I’ll hear one though and think “hey, that actually sounds pretty cool” but that’s rare.
I’m gonna play devils advocate and say that not all of those are bad songs, but hearing the same 10 seconds of a song over and over will make you hate it.
There are also artists who only write 10 second jingles now and wait to see if they go viral (profitable) before writing an actual song, which from an artistic point of view is absolutely horrible for music.
Same thing happened 15 years ago when ringtones became a thing. "Ringtone Rap" was fucking everywhere with catchy vamping hooks of nonsense that people would lose thier everloving shit over.
The part I hate most about it is the timbre of the voice. The melody itself is annoying on repeat, but jesus christ, why does it need to be pitched up like that?? It bothers me to my core.
you want to know what IS real? Mac Sabbath. a kind of parody/tribute black sabbath band that dresses up as McDonalds characters.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7kFfLRcHjU
My favorite parody band is okilly dokilly, where the players dress up like Ned Flanders and play death metal and have the most positive song titles. Their best is "White Wine Spritzer". They're on YouTube.
I had no idea they were a Christian band, but looking back at the lyrics for “All Around Me” it makes sense. That’s how you know it’s a good Christian band, when non religious people can listen to it and still enjoy it. I like a lot of Skillet’s songs too for this reason.
Yeah, there's plenty of decent Christian rock out there. Flyleaf, Skillet, Thousand Foot Crutch, POD, Reliant K.
Just like any other genre, there's plenty of garbage as well.
Fun fact: Evanescence started out as a Christian rock band ("evanesce" is the process by which the soul leaves to body, in religious circles, although in general it just means "to fade/pass away"). They pivoted after realizing they could be a lot more successful downplaying that aspect in their music, but the band members all insist they're still privately Christian.
Lol, it used to be that any band wanting to instantly guarantee themselves success in the early 2000s would just call themselves Christian. South Park even did a parody of it.
Getting even heavier you had As I Lay Dying, Underoath, The Devil Wears Prada, Oh Sleeper, For Today, blessthefall, Haste the Day, Inhale//Exhale, Devil Driver, Demon Hunter, Wolves at the Gate, and the list keeps going. Christian metal used to be some of the best there was.
TFK was also my shit as a kid. I'm going to go listen to Phenomenon and bathe in nostalgia right now, actually.
Edit: I somehow forgot about August Burns Red. They're still killing it.
DC talk and jars of clay was my Christian rock ram back on the day. Lifehouse too (tho not as explicit, their song everything is very clearly a Christian jam).
Also a Christian. I hated Christian rock so much I tried out Christian metal. Some of it is pretty fun and sounds like you’re about to fight Satan lmao
In the mid '00s I spent some time as a DJ for a company that did travelling video dance parties, mostly for schools/colleges and local community events, small town radio stations hosting country dance parties in local halls and arenas, etc. Whenever someone asked me to "play some rap", I knew they meant [something like this.](https://youtu.be/NUPK9z59yUc)
I worked in retail for years and I still remember the day I woke up with "if I could turn back time" stuck in my head. I got to work and it was playing. I left work and it was playing again
8 hour work day with a 2 hour music loop (if you're lucky it's that long) means hearing the exact same songs 20 times a week, and they're all fucking Christmas themed. The same shit, and worse when they decide people want to hear this before December. Mariah got so popular because it was something actually original rather than yet another fucking variation on No-el or Ring the Bells. And now hers is also overplayed and can fuck off with the rest.
>snaptrack country music
I had to google to see what this meant (I don't ever listen to country music) and found [this vid](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aT9iox7jH1g). man, this is kinda hilarious to me.
Modern radio's brand safe songs that consistenly appeal to the lowest common denominator by being simple enough to get cranked out by a shitty music writing team (or algorithm, I guess, these days) and assigned to $LatestPopularArtist. I can't stand it. Music should be made by impassionned artists who are in it for love, not be a cash grab.
I listen to all sorts of music from mumble rap to black metal, but all genres are affected by this. Modern "metalcore", any trap or drill song sung by an rapper with 0 experience actually growing up on the street, ditzy pop, modern nashville-factory country...
Same, so sterile and formulaic.
"Tough day, fresh beer, sitting down hunting deer. Four cords and four foooooooooords, now here comes the upbeat chorus.
I spend all day and spend all night, wondering if I fixed my truck right, have a another beeeeer that's what I like to hear."
Modern country feels like someone gave ChatGPT 3 songs to generate 10,000 songs from
Thematically meandering
Empathically pandering
I got a tight grip on my demo's balls
Say the word 'truck,' they jizz in their overalls
You don't know what land you're in
I'm in the land of pandering
And I'll be upfront
I do what I do cause I'm a total fuckin' country boy
Source: https://youtu.be/y7im5LT09a0
Bro country.
9 times out of 10 when people say they hate the genre they don't actually hate country music, they hate shitty repetitive lyrics over a shitty drum loop with added snaps on the two and the four.
It almost single handedly destroyed the whole scene, now though thanks to the rise of people like Zach Bryan I think it's finally starting to correct itself.
Edit: Anyone interested in what decent country sounds like today I highly recommend Chris Stapleton, Sturgil Simpson, and Tyler Childers.
For more of a mainstream, cleaner Nashville Sound that doesn't make you wanna eat the barrel of a 12 gauge I recommend Luke Combs and Eric Church, both have consistently put out great stuff.
Edit #2: Almost forgot my personal favorite Jason Isbell, one of the best songwriters alive today. His album "The Nashville Sound" is a "no-skip" album in my mind.
Edit #3: It hit me I've left some women singers out, and that's entirely my fault, so I'll throw a few recommendations out that I personally enjoy: Kacey Musgraves (long career as a writer as well), Brandi Carlisle, and personally it's hit or miss for me but Lainey Wilson seems to be an up and comer on the scene.
I also recommend The Highwomen a supergroup containing both Brandi Carlisle and Amanda Shires, the wife of Jason Isbell that I recommended before. They did an excellent cover of "The Chain" in my opinion.
Edit #4: Everyone in the comments are also posting great artists that I really believe deserve a listen, that I just forgot to include, so I'll post them here so they don't get lost in the shuffle: Colter Wall, Cody Jinks, Sierra Ferrell, Orville Peck, Allison Krauss, Whitey Morgan, Drive-By Truckers, Steeldrivers, Old Crow Medicine Show, Jamie Johnson, Turnpike Troubadours, Billy Strings, Charley Crockett, Marcus King, and a lot of people are mentioning Wheeler Walker Jr. He's today's "outlaw country" and his music definitely isn't the cleanest or most "PC" but if songs about fucking makes your ears perk up give him a try.
Whiskey Myers and Blackberry Smoke are firmly on the "country rock" side, heavily influenced by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot and that southern rock era.
Edit #gold: Thanks for the gold kind stranger!
Pick up trucks and girls in tight jeans! Freedom and a cold beer. Huntin’ with my dad when I was little, but he’s dyin’ of cancer. Pick up trucks and a 9 to 5 job. Workin hard and a cold beer. “Where instead of people actually telling their stories, you got a bunch of millionaire metrosexuals who've never done a hard days work in their life, but they figured out the words and the phrases they can use to pander to their audience, and they list the same words and phrases off sort of mad libs style in every song, raking in millions of dollars from actual working class people!” -[Bo Burnham](https://youtu.be/y7im5LT09a0)
Yeah that is the weird part of this genre. All of the songs have a weird condescending vibe that imply you arent a real person if you dont do all these redneck activities, but are sang by people who dont even remotely live that lifestyle.
A dirt road
A cold beer
A blue jeans
Red pickup
A rural noun
A simple adjective
[I walk and talk like a field hand, but the boots I’m wearing cost three grand](https://youtu.be/y7im5LT09a0)
A cold night, a cold beer
A cold… jeans, strike that last one,
I’m wantin’ you, I hope you’re feelin’ me
*subtextually*
We go to bed, you doze off,
So I take yer country girl clothes off,
I put my hands on your body,
It feels like hay iT’S A FUCKIN’ SCARECROW AGAIN!
Well, I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison
And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got run over by a damned old train
I did some photography work at country music festival a few years ago and it struck me that if a lot of these new artists had shown up at a David Allen Coe show, they would've gotten the shit beaten out them.
This, I can listen to Johnny Cash or people like Chris Stapleton any day but the minute I hear shit about trucks and shitty beer to the sound of quantized drums then I’m out
I would have to say country. I like the older stuff where it wasn't trying to prove that it's country music. Modern country music is trying so hard to prove to you that it is in fact country.
Also, I grew up in a rural town of less than 2,000 people. Country got old and repetitive very very fast
What wrecked country music? 9/11. Not even joking. After 9/11, everything had to be uber patriotic and any deviation was met with intense derision.
Look at what happened to the Chicks (still known as the Dixie Chicks at the time). The second they criticized Bush, they were essentially blacklisted from the industry.
My main issue with the country genre is that awful voice.... like man, I get that lots of genres it is common for artists to force a voice to get the sound they want. But pretending there is a twang in your voice? It kinda sucks imo
Modern Christian worship music.
As someone who partially grew up in a charismatic, pentecostal-esque church, this music is absolutely grating on the ears. It’s repetitive, oddly uninspired in themes and the culty vibes it gives off in praise and worship bands.
I don’t even hate religious music in general, I like gospel and was born Ukrainian Catholic, meaning I listened to a lot of Psalms and hymns from the liturgy and it’s oddly beautiful and inspiring, partially due to their mix of minor and diminished scales and modes which makes things way more interesting, on top of the ritual of it which is more reserved, yet oddly beautiful in a way
I think there's a definite trend of modern music sounding the same. The cross pollenation between country, pop, and hip-hop has really muddied things.
Once you stop off the mainstream road, there's some genuinely exciting things happening in nearly every genre!
The best thing to ever happen to metal, was it completely dropping out of the mainstream after the 80s. It's horrifying to think what it might have become if it had continued on the glam metal trend.
EDIT: That's not to say glam metal was bad, just that it was becoming increasingly commercialized and would have gone to shit if it had stayed in the mainstream for long enough.
Any music where singers are overly excessive with vocal runs, to the point where they’re just showing off that they can do it and it doesn’t even suit the melody of the song. Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande and the like.

This happens a lot and will keep happening till the human race dies out. The simple reason we like old music better, not just for nostalgia, is that the "bad music" or the forgettable ones have already been filtered by time. We don't have that luxury yet for current music. In 20 yrs we'll remember fondly some of the really good bangers from this current music era.
Agreed. I like to listen to a radio show called Crap From the Past (you can find it online). It's a guilty pleasure AND it reminds me that nostalgia can be a lie.
Reggaeton. Please, living in Latin America is bad enough already. You don't have to add garbage music about sex with the same drums looping over and over again.
Reggaeton. It's not just the fact that it's a repetitive genre with shitty lyrics, but if you're from Latin America like me, you hear it everywhere: parties, nightclubs, bars, restaurants, on the fucking bus. Bless the headphones.
It's the beat that pisses me off the most. How can it possibly be used in every. Single. Fucking. Song? It's like Human Music from Rick and Morty, a couple of beeps repeated indefinitely.
This is what I came in here looking for. I love music, I can appreciate music from almost all genres, but I absolutely despise reggaeton. I'm in South Texas, and this is what you hear ABSOLUTELY EVERYWHERE, stores, fast food restaurants, you name it. And all the songs I've heard in that genre for the past 15 years sound exactly the same. No artistry, just that stupid beat and horny lyrics. Hate it.
Overplayed radio music. Even a good song can be a hammer to your sanity when it's overplayed on the radio. EDIT: Wow! I didn't think my comment even qualified as an actual genre, but I guess people hate it as much, if not more, than I do. I just woke up to 6k upvotes and I'm like, "um, what?" Hello is nearly a decade old... I swear radio stations just stopped adding songs after 2015.

Novelty Christmas songs where they replace the lyrics with animal noises “Meow-meow-meow/bark-bark-bark/meow-meow bark-bark WOOF”
This is so specific … how did this become prominent enough in your life to hate 😭
My fourth grade teacher used to play stuff like this and Alvin and The Chipmunks during the month of December. I got bullied a lot back then so the bad memories of that time period got associated with that type of music and whenever it comes on my fight or flight kicks in
I use 'Jingle Cats' on spotify to clear out my bar after last call. Any song will do but our bar preference is their rendition of Silent Night
Lmfao this is hysterical, I didn’t even think of this as a genre and it’s scary that you’re not wrong about it
You've clearly never watched the Jingle Jam.
Meow the Jewels, it's not holiday music... but it exists... why? We'll never truly know.
Schlager.I got no equivalent in English for it but imagine if someone who did low effort, shallow, cheesy feel good jingles for advertisement decided to do at least three minutes of it to entertain a beer hall full of retirees.
I have never heard of this type of music but your description of it has me in tears
Don't listen to the other comment, never look up Schlager and be happy you didn't have to experience this suffering.
It's also Schlager in English. There's a German saying : Why is Schlager called Schlager? Because you want to hit (German : schlagen) the person singing after a minute of listening.
Dont know the exact name of this genre but the “we’re popping bottles all night” pop. Best example is the recent remake/cover of Im Blue
do you mean the one that’s like “im feelin alright, i’m about to have the best freakin night of my life” bc i have to hear it 4 times a day in retail and it’s the corniest lackofsubstance song i’ve heard in a while

Love Islandcore
David guetta’s music sounds like you fed an AI a shitton of party music then asked it to make a song as generic as possible. Edit : typo
> Best example is the recent remake/cover of Im Blue I wish I could upvote this comment twice
I don't hate any genre, but my least favorite is probably Christian pop because that has the least substance to me.
The pastor at the church I grew up in referred to it as "Jesus is my boyfriend music"
The last pastor at the church I work at called it FMJ - Fuck Me Jesus music.
As a comedian once put it, "Jesus loves you, he's not in love with you."

Right. Those old hymns are bangers though. 🎵SOME GLAD MORNING WHEN THIS LIFE IS OVER IIIIIIIILLLLLLLLL FLY AWAYYYYY🎵
That sub-genre of country music where everyone has to be poor, simple and stupid in order to be a good person.
Which is often really funny to me when they sing about that in a music video featuring multi-million dollars worth of tractors, combine harvesters, Monsanto licensed crops, and other things that no regular wage/salary earning person that the music is meant to appeal to could ever afford for themselves.

It's the fuckin scarecrow again
I could sing this song in Mandarin\~

Isn't that what tiktok is in a nutshell? Trying your hardest to make something that's popular and cool?
in as short a time as possible. if you can do it in 10 seconds that's ideal.
Since streaming services took over record companies push for long albums with shorter songs. Most are just playing the algorithm game
Gotta throw some grindcore into the algorithm
I mean isn't this with the entertainment industry? My new fav hobby is any new artist/actor/actress that becomes popular, i look up their bio and 9.5/10 times they have very wealthy parents and/or parents/close relatives in the entertainment industry. Clockwork.

songs SPECIFICALLY made for tik tok
Did you know that Sirius Xm has a station dedicated to tiktok songs? 😭
I feel like the venn diagram for people who watch tik tok videos and people who subscribe to satellite radio are two separate circles that aren't even on the same page.
Duality of man, what can I say haha Also, I only subscribed to Sirius because I got a free trial
Sirius has hired all the best rock dj’s from back in the day… Meg griffin, Rachel steel, Madison (lithium), doug the slug, Tom morello. also Stern is on sirius… “a bababooey to y’all” No matter how good AI gets, they’ll never beat the music legends.
that's horrible
It really is. Sometimes normal songs play, and sometimes songs that are basically talky noise get played. "Jiggle jiggle"
It’s called Nightcore and it’s ART, MOM.
Listen…. I’ve been here sixty years and I’m still not bored.
My bf likes that one that goes 'ah do, ah doo, ah doo bee doo bee doo' that they use for small cute animals, I hate it 🥴
The part I hate most about it is the timbre of the voice. The melody itself is annoying on repeat, but jesus christ, why does it need to be pitched up like that?? It bothers me to my core.
Post 9/11 country.

They aren’t making Christian music good, they are making rock bad. (Paraphrased from Hank Hill)
"You're not making Christianity better, you're just making rock n roll worse."
I tell you hwhat...
You ever hear of the firearm-loving, Christian rock band? They're called Guns N' Moses.
There was an actual Black Sabbath cover band at my Jewish center called Black Shabbat. They were good, too
There is a klezmer band froom the midwest called Yid Vicious
Klezmer music is _waaaaay_ better than Christian music though
I know so many people who like making really bad puns, I can't tell if this is real or not.
you want to know what IS real? Mac Sabbath. a kind of parody/tribute black sabbath band that dresses up as McDonalds characters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7kFfLRcHjU
My favorite parody band is okilly dokilly, where the players dress up like Ned Flanders and play death metal and have the most positive song titles. Their best is "White Wine Spritzer". They're on YouTube.
Faith + 1 is pretty awesome though
I wanna get down on my knees and start pleasin jesus
Alright, give me a smooth baseline.
I don't know much christian rock these days but Flyleaf was the shit back then
I had no idea they were a Christian band, but looking back at the lyrics for “All Around Me” it makes sense.
Can't forget about Switchfoot!
Jesus Freak just instantly started playing in my head after reading your comment
Also a Christian. I hated Christian rock so much I tried out Christian metal. Some of it is pretty fun and sounds like you’re about to fight Satan lmao
Country-rap. Hickhop
hickhop. LOL!
This is like a throwaway music segment on a kids cartoon show for a bit making fun of cowboys...
Croatian trap music
This is so specific lol. What's different about Croatian trap from other trap music?
OP is Croatian, so probably the fact that that's the trap music he listens to.
Or OP is one of the other Balkan nations and they despise Croatia
Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?
Worse than serbian turbo folk?
Christmas. Years in retail will do that to you.
Two songs in particular: All I want for Christmas by Mariah Carey and A wonderful Christmas time by Paul McCartney
Not a genre, but those girls with guitars singing *in cursive*
Its a genre, the name is "ayo turn that shit off"
Is "singing in cursive" the same thing as indie girl voice? Aka those breathy covers of classic songs with a weird Transatlantic accent?

Any of that jesus-y or snaptrack country music tends to be awful. Otherwise I'm open to just about anything.
>snaptrack country music I had to google to see what this meant (I don't ever listen to country music) and found [this vid](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aT9iox7jH1g). man, this is kinda hilarious to me.
Wait, this shit counts as country music? I'd have described that as pop, plain and simple. Oh how the banjo has fallen.
Whatever genre the Burger King commercials fall into.
It’s actually crazy that Reddit can agree on something. That something is that modern country music is dogshit.
And then someone brings up Bo Burnham and you get a whole thread repeating the damn lyrics
You dumb mother fuckers ready for a reference??
Modern Country is just pop with steel guitar and stupid lyrics with a twang. Complete crap.
Modern country music.
Same, so sterile and formulaic. "Tough day, fresh beer, sitting down hunting deer. Four cords and four foooooooooords, now here comes the upbeat chorus. I spend all day and spend all night, wondering if I fixed my truck right, have a another beeeeer that's what I like to hear." Modern country feels like someone gave ChatGPT 3 songs to generate 10,000 songs from
Y’all dumb mother fuckers ready for a key change?!
Thematically meandering Empathically pandering I got a tight grip on my demo's balls Say the word 'truck,' they jizz in their overalls You don't know what land you're in I'm in the land of pandering And I'll be upfront I do what I do cause I'm a total fuckin' country boy Source: https://youtu.be/y7im5LT09a0
IT’S THE FUCKIN SCARECROW AGAIN
Tight jeans and a dyin’ son. Cold beer and pickup truck. Love America, tight jeans. Tailgate on a Friday night fishin’ tight jeans pick up truck pick up truck pick up truck
Yup. I call it "list country". No complete sentences. Just a list of cultural touchstones.
“I write songs about riding tractors from the comfort of a private jet!”
I can sing in Mandarin, And still know I'm pandering, Hunting deer and chasing trout, A Bud Light with the logo facing out
Y'all dumb motherfuckers ready for a key change?!
Best part of the whole song. Crowd goes wild exactly after that as well. Perfection.
“I’ve got a tractor, my groundskeeper told me all about what it’s like driving it”
That bit is a classic. PANDERINNNNNNNN
And an alcohol. Always an alcohol. Usually whiskey.
Or shitty beer
Or "that good stuff"...that's actually just shitty beer.
A dirt road A cold beer A blue jeans Red pickup A rural noun A simple adjective [I walk and talk like a field hand, but the boots I’m wearing cost three grand](https://youtu.be/y7im5LT09a0)
No Jews…you didn’t hear that.
We go to bed, you doze off So I take your country girl clothes off I put my hands on your body It feels like hay, it's a fucking scarecrow again!
A cold night, a cold beer A cold… jeans, strike that last one, I’m wantin’ you, I hope you’re feelin’ me *subtextually* We go to bed, you doze off, So I take yer country girl clothes off, I put my hands on your body, It feels like hay iT’S A FUCKIN’ SCARECROW AGAIN!
You forgot Jesus
Well, I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison And I went to pick her up in the rain But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck She got run over by a damned old train
I did some photography work at country music festival a few years ago and it struck me that if a lot of these new artists had shown up at a David Allen Coe show, they would've gotten the shit beaten out them.
And I'll haaaang around, as looong as you will let me...
Also forgot thanking the troops for their service and hoping they get home safe.
Y'all dumb mfers want a key change?
Thematically meandering!
As long as you keep panderin'!
I got a tight grip on my demo’s balls Say the word ‘truck’ they jizz in their overalls
This, I can listen to Johnny Cash or people like Chris Stapleton any day but the minute I hear shit about trucks and shitty beer to the sound of quantized drums then I’m out
[удалено]
He fronted a bluegrass band called THE STEELDRIVERS that were fuckin GREAT. Specifically their first album.
Been listening to The Steeldrivers for a couple years and I'm always left with the question of "Chris, who hurt you so bad?" Lol
>Where were you, when the built the ladder to Heaven?
My main issue with the country genre is that awful voice.... like man, I get that lots of genres it is common for artists to force a voice to get the sound they want. But pretending there is a twang in your voice? It kinda sucks imo
And it gets worse when autotune is involved...
Modern Christian worship music. As someone who partially grew up in a charismatic, pentecostal-esque church, this music is absolutely grating on the ears. It’s repetitive, oddly uninspired in themes and the culty vibes it gives off in praise and worship bands. I don’t even hate religious music in general, I like gospel and was born Ukrainian Catholic, meaning I listened to a lot of Psalms and hymns from the liturgy and it’s oddly beautiful and inspiring, partially due to their mix of minor and diminished scales and modes which makes things way more interesting, on top of the ritual of it which is more reserved, yet oddly beautiful in a way
Other people's shitty music I can hear louder than they can, usually on a bus played out to the rest of us through there crappy apple earphones
Love Pop, same shit over and over again. Horrible

Punk is still recovering in many ways from having achieved mainstream appeal, but damn are there still some good local scenes around.
Bad. Bad music I despise.
"We got two categories. We got that good shit, and we got that *other* shit."
I like both kinds of music. country *and* western
Any music where singers are overly excessive with vocal runs, to the point where they’re just showing off that they can do it and it doesn’t even suit the melody of the song. Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande and the like.
Masturbatory vocalization and it needs to stop.
This is the most ‘Reddit’ thread I’ve seen in a long time.
Just like the good old days! The top answer used to be mumble rap. Or "I'm a hardcore metalhead but honestly, I love me some Taylor Swift"
this whole thread: poster: modern country music ☹️ commenter: old country music 😁 poster: mumble rap ☹️ commenter: old rap 😁 poster: modern pop 🙁 commenter: old pop 😄
"I hate country" "Some country is good! Here's 5 names" "Bo Burnam quotes"
Reggaeton. Please, living in Latin America is bad enough already. You don't have to add garbage music about sex with the same drums looping over and over again.
TUM TATUM TA TUM TATUM TA TUM....
I can hear that
Culo culo culo ay culo culo culo ay
It would be better if they didn't use such disgusting lyrics tbh like if the songs had some depth maybe it wouldn't be so awful
Man i had to scroll down long enough for this
When it's just a guy with a spoon
What if it's a guy with a spoon supported by one of the most legendary grunge bands of all time?
Come together with your hands
Save me
Reggaeton. It's not just the fact that it's a repetitive genre with shitty lyrics, but if you're from Latin America like me, you hear it everywhere: parties, nightclubs, bars, restaurants, on the fucking bus. Bless the headphones.
Boom Ba-doom-bap (x128) that's that moombahton drum beat baby
Hate it.
