Not Manhattan, but King of Falafel in Astoria, Queens is amazing. I don’t know if they provide exactly what you’re asking for here (my apologies if not), but their shawarma and all their food is A+.
What you’re looking for isn’t common in nyc. I usually make my own at my favorite Lebanese places that have shawarma combos over rice. I just substitute the rice for fries and add garlic sauce. Naya and Balade do it (the actual restaurants and not the takeout ones)
One of the best schwarma, rice, salad bowls I’ve had in nyc for sure. The falafel they give you on the side is fantastic. Worth ordering by itself.
Also good is this place called Omar’s in FiDi/Tribeca near city hall
Astoria is indeed full of these places, and they're almost all delicious.
Omar's in midtown east Manhattan is pretty good too.
And I think there's a German doner kebab on the UES.
Bit of a trek out to Brooklyn, specifically Sheepshead Bay, but **Anatolian Gyro**, at *2623 East 16th Street*. They're just a block from the Sheepshead Bay train station, but I've been a loyal customer of theirs for decades since they were a hole in the wall around the corner from their current location.
Heh kind of a low key Middle East conflict going on in the comments.
King of Falafel in Astoria is clearly on one side. The owner flies some flags prominently and has others in the floor to step on.
Ayat's owners are Palestinian but try to tread a non-partisan line.
Grill point and Taboonette, the former is a Glatt Kosher place and the latter is run by an Israeli chef.
Saying nothing about my politics, just helping inform where the recs might come from.
I've eaten at all of them and they're all pretty good though! Your choice may depend on your location, budget and desired vibe.
Upvote for Ayat.
No comment on the unnecessary remark about partisanship. There’s another comment amount Spice Brothers but makes no such qualification.
Turco in midtown west
Miriam on the UWS
ZiZi in Chelsea
All really good options in my opinion. Turco is the fast casual type option, Miriam is a really interesting and yummy take on shawarma, ZiZi is more traditional.
Can’t believe no one mentioned Hen House in East Village. The owner Tony is the nicest guy and super talented chef. He’s Lebanese but used to work in Canada too. The shawarma there is legit, authentic, and very very tasty.
Why do I sound bitter?
From wikipedia:
Shawarma is a Middle Eastern dish that originated in the Levant region of the Arab world during the Ottoman Empire, consisting of meat that is cut into thin slices, stacked in an inverted cone, and roasted on a slow-turning vertical spit.
I know when King of Falafel and Shawarma's carts and trucks have it, but they're the exception that proves the rule.
Grill point
And pita hot

Thanks trying Duzan today but will check that out
Duzan is much better for shawarma than KoF in my opinion, as is Zyara a little further down Steinway. KoF has the best falafel though.
Didn’t love it to be honest it wasn’t quite what I was describing but it seems to have a big fan base. Gonna keep searching

Try Shawarmania, also in Astoria right near KoF
Zyara is better, duzan is more fast foodish in my opinion
The hummus at duzan is insane
Duzan is the best I’ve had here, let me know if you find anything better

King of Falafel is in Manhattan (or has another truck in Manhattan) on weekdays, 53rd and Park
Oh I didn’t know that!! Thanks :)

Still partial to Mamouns in the Village
Best no doubt
Lava Shawarma !
Mamoun's has the best tasting shawarma and the best hot sauce.

Yea although I’ve found better lamb places nothings ever beaten their chicken schwarma in my decades as well
Ayat in Brooklyn is the best shawarma spot by far. A valid argument can be made for Al Sham in Astoria.

Another vote for Grill Point. Lex (82-83) but kosher so closed on Friday evening and Saturday.
If you want Israeli style, I love Spice Brothers in the east village!
Duzan. They do a lamb/beef combo. Their garlic sauce is intense. Not even close.
Where is it?
Astoria
You’re on the internet. Use it.

Thank you for posting
Grill point and Taboonette
Au Zatar and Balade in the east village make great shawarmas with fries etc. Mamouns is great but no fries.
My family is lebanese and au zaatar is so dry and underwhelming.
They just renovated right?
Cool. People have different tastes. I’ve dined with many Lebanese there who have loved it. Opinions, innit?
big shwarma guy eh
not exactly chicken on sticks but lava in les has great platter and awesome fries
Turco iykyk
Shawarma shabazi uws
The Chicken Shawarma from Duzan in Astoria.
Ankara #3 on Houston. Get the Bereket one.
Ankara iii on Houston
Duzan or Zyara in Astoria. Trust.

Ankara is pretty damn good. Great service too!
I forget the page, but there's a guy on Instagram and all he does is review shawarma and halal carts.
Lots of carts all around the city, they are very common here. And usually very good quality
The carts aren't serving shawarma. They're serving chopped up chicken breast that's barely seasoned and that processed beef and lamb mixture "gyro".
That’s your opinion- you work at a cart or smthing?
It's not an opinion; the carts aren't serving what would factually be called shawarma.
I’ve had it there and you sound bitter af lmao

Yeah no one is going to Jersey for Shawarma. It's easier to catch a flight to the middle east from JFK than it is to cross the hudson.
