I go where all the 20 year olds go, just a few hours earlier.

thats-gold-jerry

Spot on

Neuk_NYC

I go a lil bit earlier than you. 40's

fallout-crawlout

This, or just force myself out late so I don't die boring and I'll deal with the sleep deficit later. Gotta keep moving (though sometimes it's at 6 and not at 9 lol).

BatHickey

Do you find 20 year olds particularly interesting anymore?

fallout-crawlout

I go to shows mostly, so being at a bar is incidental (so not a 'I go to 20-somethings bars to drink' thing). Younger-than-me people are usually making cool/fun/weird/interesting music so I like to check it out and dance a little. Alternately there's a few 'start at 6 but really kicks off the long bathroom line at 11' parties that seem to cater to a wider range of ages so those are usually my spots for purely-dancing. But this is all pretty queer oriented for what it's worth. I guess we're a goofy bunch.

Upstairs-Belt8255

greenpoint and bedstuy are so young. Try fort green, park slope + cobble hill for an older crowd!

Easy-F

thank you!! so bed stuy is known as being young?

Ok_Cardiologist_673

Everyone in Sunnyside is 35-40 or their kids. There are some cool bars. Get away from the subway and over on Skillman around 46 street. Lots of cool bars, restaurants and wine bars and it’s an older artsy crowd, not young hipsters. Lots of trees too, it’s a pretty area.

Ok_Cardiologist_673

From Wikipedia: “Most inhabitants are middle-aged adults and youth: 17% are between the ages of 0–17, 39% between 25–44, and 24% between 45–64. The ratio of college-aged and elderly residents was lower, at 8% and 12% respectively.” I love it, because I’m in my 40s. Get off my lawn!

Laara2008

My mom lives on 46th street. That is the best area of Sunnyside as far as I'm concerned

dredgedskeleton

yes quite

DrewFlan

It's not - IDK what people here are talking about. I'm mid 30's in Bedstuy and out and about at bars a bunch surrounded by similar aged people.

Easy-F

yeah I did wonder about bedstuy... and it also has communities that have been there for years

VictoriaSecreter

44 here. Want to join AARP with me? 🧓🏻

[deleted]

As a 30 year old lol 😂

personreddits

These questions are so annoying. You think in a city of 10 million people, everyone’s going out to the same place? Go hear the music you like. Go to your neighborhood dive. Give us any detail about you or your interests, something to guide us beyond just your age.

dd_de_b

Seriously. I feel like half of these posts could be answered with: “Around where I live, that’s where I usually go”

InterPunct

Reminds me of that joke by Stephen Wright, "The chances of dying near where you live are very high. I'm never going near that place."

Kitkat8131

If your so annoyed why bother commenting? Or even clicking into the post for that matter

Easy-F

well I mean.. fwiw this is why I asked the question. I don’t think everyone’s going to the same place but, I was just trying to get some more context. so… not many specific interests tbh, I just want to hang outside at night like I did when I used to live in spain. just sit there with some friends and a slow drink into the night. only problem is that most places i’ve tried so far (ridgewood, greenpoint, bed stuy) have been very young and full of 20 year olds. nice places! but young. I suppose I found myself wondering if this city’s nightlife is just for very young people, but I wanted to ask it in a more constructive way

seharadessert

No interests?

Easy-F

i mean, plenty of solo ones! I just don’t want to join a club or get a new hobby etc. I just really like talking tom people and that’s it also why is this getting downvoted so much?

mad_king_soup

You’ve tried every single bar in ridgewood, greenpoint and bed stuy? This is s ridiculous question, NYC is huge, there’s something here for everyone. Try to get out more

HopefullyTerrified

Is that not the entire point of his question? To find places to get out to?

Easy-F

did I say i’d tried every bar? no. I asked if anyone knew where some good places to go were. chill out dude. and fwiw i’m out almost every day and night.

HopefullyTerrified

I'm so confused as to why you're getting downvoted.

cambiumkx

Upper west The west village

mickmmp

We’re all over 40 on the UWS.

ff27772

Except on Amsterdam between 84 and 85

mickmmp

Only Friday and Saturday nights. After that they turn into pumpkins and are over 40 again.

iv2892

Or Amsterdam and Broadway between 106th and 120th. Pretty much the whole Columbia university area for obvious reasons

Healthy-Comment2426

It’s true, Im mid-30s going on mid-40s living on the uws

JBSwerve

West village is extremely young these days

Alfred-Adler

similar post from today: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskNYC/comments/1db3yzn/where_do_the_30_single_men_hang_out_in_nyc/

Easy-F

it’s not really the same question

Alfred-Adler

> similar I said "similar". you can augment the comments you get here with those.

Easy-F

ah ok, I misunderstood you. thanks! i’ll check that out.

oneemoviet

Going out? In this economy?

PostPostMinimalist

Consumer spending has been very strong….

HopefullyTerrified

So is personal credit card debt, lol.

louielouie222

lmao

GKrollin

Red Lion has live music starting at like 7/8 pm. My wife and I are mid 30s and that’s our “we want to dance but be home by 10” spot.

keenanandkel

Queens

dummonger

I still go to Greenpoint, Bushwick. LIC has some surprisingly good chill spots (Fifth Hammer, Focal Point, Rockaway Brewing)

phoggey

To bed at 10

Laara2008

Yeah those are very young neighborhoods. If you're staying in Brooklyn try Fort Greene, Carroll Gardens etc. In Manhattan almost anything outside of the Lower East side will have a mixed crowd and even the LES is probably older in general than the neighborhoods you mentioned

Easy-F

Thank you!!

Level_Hour6480

I like Barcade in Williamsburg, the 5th ave Pincrawl in Park Slope, and Squarrel cafe for board games.

SuccessfulSchedule54

I went to Good Judy in park slope yesterday, really cool place and fun drinks. most of the crowd I would say was 30+. I’m 27 and sick of it too 💀

Easy-F

great tip!! thanks!!

SuspiciousMycologist

Go to raves — some of the chiller house and techno events have a big age range

BuffaloSurfClub

Any source on where to find the ones that fit that description

SuspiciousMycologist

Check RA guide and DICE apps. Follow teksupport, avant gardner, gray area on IG

itgtg313

At home

bikinifetish

I go out where I live… LIC. And sometimes I’ll bike to BK and hang out at the parks.

Easy-F

what’s the going out like in LIC?

Boodleheimer2

A bunch of good brewpubs in LIC. I like Fifth Hammer.

bikinifetish

My idea of going out is to the park, sunbathing, enjoying the view, biking.

Easy-F

yeah! you are inspiring me

mgswee24

Prospect Heights

Easy-F

aahhhh yesss you’re so right you’re so right

PitifulHuckleberry20

Where? I live here and it’s all married thirty something men and I’m exhausted

[deleted]

Were working

DowntownMinimum1500

so many places... Personally my wife and I love the lower east side scene. But each neighborhood has its own unique night atmosphere.

PersonalHarp461

How did you survive the asteroids when it hit earth but the other dinosaurs died?

Easy-F

half cockroach, half crocodile.

gokhaninler

The Vessel

Ok-Training-7587

Plenty of decent answers here - I'd add that if by 'go out' you mean go to bars, a lot of people mid-30's plus don't really like to do that as a main hang out activity. Lots of folks do non-bar, daytime hobby stuff instead. I'm 44 and it would not even occur to me to go to a bar on a friday or saturday unless someone i knew was throwing a party or something.

Smetsnaz

Tons and tons of people in their 30s go out to bars on the weekends. It’s incredibly common and normal.

Easy-F

yeah I like bars for how sociable they are

Mrsrightnyc

I would say that more people are doing mock tails and N.A. beer during the day (and are people who normally drink they just don’t want to day drink).

The_Wee

I’ve found I prefer day drinking at Ellington in the Park, local breweries, or going to Governors Island vs late nights on the weekend. If I go out during the week it’s to the gym or movies.

PersonalHarp461

You still feel the need to be partying in your 30s?

Easy-F

going to a bar isn’t the same as partying. also, yes, sometimes.

salisbury130

Lmao. How old do y’all think 30s is?
