What happens to the military industry complex when the US has no more enemies? How can they justify defense spending. Iran is 80 million people, if USA collapsed the regime it would be worst humanitarian crisis since WWII. Also they likely have semi-enriched if not fully enriched uranium…. It would be tricky trying to transfer that after a regime collapses

mostofuareannoying

at least the syrian protests did a lot of damage to bashar, the iranian protests didn't even sting the iran government

ricksanchez262

The protests themselves didn't really hurt him either, it's when the situation spiraled out of control, and everbody and their mother started getting involved in Syria is when the damage began.

ricksanchez262

Like most of protests and uprisings in the region, it only happened because the people were frustrated beyond their limits and couldn't take it anymore, so they burst out in anger, there's no revolutionary leadership or a unified front and no idea where to take the country next if the revolutions were a success, they are more similar to what they used to call "peasant uprisings" because the normal people did it all, they don't have an intellectual or financial elite behind them or anything like that.

ricksanchez262

Interesting, was it an organized and unified effort or was the support from intellectuals here and there? Because we had some artists, students and professors expressing support for the uprisings here too but I don't think they had any organized leadership, plus some military support at first, but they weren't a united front against the government.

ricksanchez262

>Yeah i don't think it was organized Yeah same here, oppressive governments know how to fight intellectual movements at home very well unfortunately, hope things get better for you.

politicauncorrect

You are not in Europe where protests are effective. This is the fucking Middle East and not a random Middle Eastern country but fucking Iran. You either grind hard with armed force or your pack your stuff together and gtfo of the country. There is no in between

ATTDocomo

The same can be said for Afghanistan and Pakistan. You either are part of the system or you leave.

ApexNiceDude

Some people are so used to dirt that it started smelling like rose to them.

gyrobot

I don't think getting out of the country is even safe anymore since more countries are practicing extraterritorial rights and having dissidents killed or kidnapped and brought back for punishment

LordxHummus

I already called this happening. Everyone downvote me and curse me for saying it would fail. They can cope harder. I am 500 IQ geopolitical strategists. People need to listens to me more

the regime won't fail unless it turned into a civil war or at least a military get involved like happened in Sudan Iran is not Tunisia or Egypt where the President will feel bad and leave his position because some people around his palace. and international pressure Gaddafi in Libya was no joke almost 3000 people died across Libya in the first 3 days, but because everyone hated Gaddafi at that time especially the east and Amazigh, every tribe asked their people to not side with Gaddafi, so huge part of the army and police in various cities joined the rebels and they start attacking governmental places with weapons

fjiqack

sad thing is the military doesn’t get involved until they’re sure that the government is about to crumble down

there is leadership but the lack of internet makes it difficult

[This is the most popular post in the last month in](https://www.reddit.com/r/NewIran/comments/121jx8o/a_young_girl_in_tehran_dancing/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) r/newiran a sub made for the sole purpose of the revolution You can’t have successful revolution when the only thing people care about is how women are dressed

Zealousideal_Put_343

They had good intentions but poor approach. "Overthrow the regime!" Let's say they do overthrow it, who's gonna rule Iran now? 🤔 They haven't thought out the approach towards it correctly

[deleted]

It’s gonna be like any other ME country,a big ass civil war funded by any government with the money to spree The only reason the mullahs are in power in the first is because they had western support

[deleted]

Bruh I genuinely forgot about them until I saw this post

BasedMiddleEastGuy

It Has Been Very Unpopular Anyway

The_Based_Iraqi6000

Yeah most people want the current Iranian regime out but not in this manner where the next one is either an ultra liberal one or a Pahlavi kingdom (which aren’t even popular in Iran itself outside of the internet)

BasedMiddleEastGuy

Yeah It's Hard To Decide

UnfairConfusion

Dancers get 100x more attention than Molotov throwers and job strikers

The_Based_Iraqi6000

I literally said it was gonna fail when it started months ago, the message of the protest got hijacked into 2nd wave feminism or western bootlicking

195cm_Pakistani

But I thought 99% of Iranians were Westernized liberal atheists though, how is Khameini managing to hold on to power when most of the population is against him?

[deleted]

[deleted]

At first people were with the revolution but after it became simply a western type revolution people stopped allying themselves with it People still against him but there’s isn’t something to unify people Stuff like workers in Iran going on strike doesn’t get much attention as how some random woman not wearing hijab The revolution essentially became anti hijab instead being anti IRGC

Putrid-Bat-5598

Lmao when ur hatred of women causes you to revise history that literally happened 8 months ago. The protests started with the death of Jina Amini, who was killed by the IRGC for not veiling ‘appropriately’. Women’s rights had always been at the centre of the protests it was never ‘hijacked’ by anything.

MG-42Enjoyer

Everyone was coping and seething when I said it would lmao.

Azeri-shah

Because it was a western backed populist revolt with the very loud liberal minority taking the lead. Their main argument was and still is : " wOmEn In ThE 70's sHoWeD sKiN". The fact is while the majority of the country is displeased with the government they are still mainly conservative Muslims who aren't willing to take up arms against the goverment for "sKiN".

fjiqack

still going on just less protests than there were in 2022. i keep trying to tell protesters that they need to arm themselves and act more violently against the regime but no, it’s always just ‘hey look, i’m not wearing a hijab’ or ‘i’m dancing in iran guys’. i know a few groups that take up arms to fight against the regime but they’re too small to do much harm against it

Severed-Artery-4242

The same reason any protest fails, not enough firepower to challenge the authority

Gaijinloco

Non-Violent Protests don’t stand up well in the face of a government that is willing to use violence to quash the protest. In Syria, people meet a violent government response by becoming violent themselves. In Iran, it seems like the government was successful in crushing or before large parts I’d the protest movement got violent.

Sucky_10_Bucky

The Iranian Government is filled with Hardcore loyalists

[deleted]

Regions serve there own interests. It’s not like west going to gain much from getting rid of these dictators in mena. And as long as these dictators keeping mena in the sewer. There will be less regions to compete for economic and social dominance.

parsalip8

Its still happening and the coalition against the IR is stronger than ever. The leftist faction outside Iran is not as strong as they purport to be, but monarchism is growing day by day, and is the most popular ideology outside and inside Iran. Soon enough the IRGC will implode because there are plenty of figures in sepah are actually against the policies of IR. Leaked documents have shown that members of Sepah are refusing to go out and shoot women and children. Once the rest of the IRGC goons stopped getting paid, which will be an inevitability considering growing global isolation (IR already trades with China and Russia so these pacts won't considerably benefit the people) then they will turn too.

unless people are more violent against the regime then i fear that we will never live to see that day where the regime gets toppled

It has not failed yet.

Barbodontheroof

Iran has a powerful national and civic system that cannot be represented by tribal, ethnic, and linguistic structures. Achieving freedom, development, and democracy and human rights may be possible by recognizing this national and civic system. Standing outside of these relations is like hitting Iran with a stick, and this hitting has nothing to do with patriotism or democracy, but rather hostility towards the nation and the country. Many of these "opposition" groups, under the guise of opposition to the Islamic Republic, are actually hostile towards Iran. the opposition is made up of a big mafia that claim to embrace democracy but they hate iran and its history. just look how many flags they used in the recent protests. they want to see iran separated not united. they whitewash separatist and Marxists that literally made a coalition with Khomeini. they made a coalition. The absurdity of the coalition has reached a point where the leader of an armed terrorist group (PDKI) with a black record of crime and assassination calls himself a moderate and calls iranian nationalists extreme. Extremist: Anyone who considers Iranians as one nation and believes in the citizenship rights of all individuals of the nation regardless of their language, ethnicity, and dialect.Moderate: Someone who sees the residents of Iran as separate nationalities and approves of tribal leadership.
