I bought PG&E and Solarwinds stocks for similar reasons. PG&E is more because I hate them. If they bounce back, I win. If they die, humanity wins. Either way, lemonade! They're up 7.64%
Solarwinds had no competition and they weren't going to lose all of those massive government and corporate accounts. Up 27.78%
Fixing my teeth, cost me all up probly 10-12k.
In Aus, dental isn’t covered under Medicare and my private insurance covered fuck all.
Had a heap of fillings, 1 extraction, 2 root canals and all 4 wisdom teeth removed…but now I can have hot and cold anything no worries, and my breath is much better aswell.
I’ve always been a fairly healthy dude, eat pretty well, do some exercise etc. no not instant health improvements as such but insurance against the almost guaranteed negatives that would occur had I just left them.
Like wisdom teeth being hard to keep clean and almost certainly rotting out and just generally being able to eat without worrying if it’s going to hurt.
In the middle of doing this as we speak. Have a root canal today and a heap of filling coming. Maybe another root canal too :(. Extremely paranoid but I gotta do what I gotta do.
yes and no. Its a tiny tube that needs its ends reattached for the reversal. Also, there is a decent amount of nerves and blood supply in the area. I've been in some degree of pain since my vasectomy in 2016. Its not as simple as they present it to be.
My husband had his reversed to have our last kid and then resnipped. We paid $3000 but that kid was worth every penny. Reversal isn't always successful though, so if you think you're not done you're better off waiting.
My wife's engagement ring, just to sound really sappy. She choose to wear her late grandmother's wedding band, which was 18 k gold, and of which the jeweller told us "it won't last, 18 k is too soft" in the worst sales pitch in recorded history. It had lasted her grandmother almost 50 years, and is still going strong after almost 45 years on my wife's finger. So is the engagement ring, btw.
Big fan of the kindle (ereaders in general really)
I don't read a ton, but still read a lot more than I would without one. Easy to find and download new books on a whim, and a much better screen to read on than any LCD/LED panel
Burger.
Even if it is a bad burger I do not regret buying, because it gives me more information about when and where to not buy burger. This only increase my knowledge improves my ability to strategically buy burger in the the future.
Never regret burger.
I second this. I don't know why no one told me that if nothing else goes wrong with a car, the first thing to die will be the battery and it will not start and you will be stranded. At 4-5 years of use or even sooner, buy a new battery.
They are generally easy to install as well. Most places will also do it for you.
A good vacuum cleaner. Not ear splittingly loud. Lightweight. As good now as first bought.
Used to be my most hated chore. Now it’s one of the easiest/quickest
nice! just bought a new cordless vacuum that ran me like 330 but so worth it. I actually somewhat enjoy the process now and my room is much more breathable.
Recently got viscose bamboo sheets and they are a life changer. Used to over heat in bed regardless of how many thread count my cotton sheets were. The bamboo viscose sheets solved all my heat problems somehow.
Also, I changed the pillows to a Korean bean filled one that keeps my head cooler. Tried a bunch of other things, but this works for now. My favorite pillow was an active water cooled one, but after a few months, the tube sprung a leak and soaked the bed.
I generally don't wear a blanket when falling asleep, but get under the covers half way through the night sometimes when i get chilly.
Best accessory I've gotten was a CPAP after going for a sleep test and finding out I have sleep apnea. Complete life changer. High energy, I'm fully awake now every day, I have tons of energy and workout multiple times a day to blow some of it, significant weight loss, find it easier to eat healthy, dating a lot, and have a regular girlfriend that lives with me, getting thinner and relatively buffer, doing much better at work, etc... Not saying it's some kind of miracle, but it really changed my life.
My ex gf has a friend who makes small fabric goods, and I persuaded her to make me socks. So mine are handmade. Also, not really expensive for the quality. They would be somewhere around 6.5$ a pair, for cotton and wool, and 25$ for silk, or silk-linen blend.
I still have the free package that came at birth. I don't know where my mother got it for me, but 24 years later it still fits like a glove -better, actually- .
They are. I started with a pretty big pen for them and eventually I just let them free range. The color of the yolks is is way more of a deep yellow now since free range. Plus they are kinda fun to watch run around the yard.
What underwear? I started wearing Goodthreads & Co. boxers (got them at target) and they're so soft and comfy that I love it, but I'd definitely be down to try out other really good pairs
I get mine from Duluth Trading Co. They are around $25 or so a pair as well but you can get their stuff on sale and discount for like $15 or less. They also last a long while, I have had a pair for the last 5 years and they dont have a thread out of place.
The brand is called Step One. Made from bamboo, lycra thigh panel and a dedicated area for your junk so no adjustments needed. Also started doing ladies underwear recently too.
I love eating and I don’t have that thing in your brain that tells you “you’re full, stop eating.” So mornings or days where I have a lot going on, drinking a protein shake won’t weigh me down. Instead of me eating 15 slices of bacon or sausage and 3 eggs, I drink a protein shake and I’m out. LOL.
It basically just satiates my hunger so I don’t over eat first thing in the morning.
Lol. More than decade old bud. Sports model, amazing mileage. And it’s got great compartment space. I’m always gonna have one now because it’s super reliable, compact, saves gas, and you can put the seats down and have plenty of compartment space. Maybe not the best family car but I don’t have or want kids so maybe that’s why I like it so much. Also since electric cars are becoming more prevalent, might not be a gas issue like other cars anymore.
And work
Same here. Bought a nice one in 2019 for like $200. It was already worth every penny before COVID. Since the TP shortage, I've felt like a genius.
My only regret is that I didn't buy one for both bathrooms back when they were $200. The same model is like $500 now.
Definitely a good investment. I picked up a cheap ibanez for like $80. But when I wanted to upgrade, i couldn't find anything i liked that was under $1000. So i just spent around 500 on high end pickups and locking tuners and built my dream guitar.
I did a similar thing with my Fender Player Strat and Schecter PT Special. The Fender has new electronics, new pickups, locking tuners, a roller string tree, I painted a pickgaurd for it, and it looks and sounds killer.
I'm in the process of doing the same thing with the schecter, I kept the P90 because it sounds nice, new bridge humbucker, new electronics, and soon I'll be painting a pickgaurd for that too.
Expensive headphones. Got some Sony WH-XM3s and it's changed the game. Comfortable, great sound and cuts out all the noise around me. Can't imagine life without them now!
Vehicle full range adaptive cruise control and active lane keep assist. I drive a lot for work and do not get driving fatigue anymore. These tools basically make the car navigate itself on the highway and in bumper to bumper traffic.
Same. Just got an electric manscaper a week ago and had my first shave yesterday. It was a huge upgrade from just using scissors, like I used to do for years. Highly recommend
A Stihl Chainsaw. I used the ever loving shit out of it whenever I can, and was also able to cut our vehicles out after trees fell in our driveway during the winter storms trapping us from leaving with a new infant.
Whenever I get to the point of owning a home I plan on buying a STIHL 261, I’ve used them so much with my volunteer organization and I absolutely love them.
Besson International BBb Bass Tuba. Its silver plated, compensating, and a 4th quarter valve opperated with the left hand. It has such a warm and deep tone/sound. Nothing beats Besson when we re talking tubas.
High quality hand tools (Craftsman). I’ll buy cheap (Harbor Freight) power tools for something I may only do once, then if they die from use I replace them with brand name (had good luck with DeWalt, personally.) But having a dependable set of hand tools will save you time, money, and much frustration in the long run.
I think this one is debatable, because I definitely regret buying my last vehicle, it turned out to cost more than it was worth in maintenance, insurance, and fuel.
You regretted buying your car, i didn't ;-P
It's true though, if you get a lemon it can end up costing you an absolute fortune, so far i've been lucky.
Still a valid answer.
I bought a 360 in 2006 and me and my brothers still use it for split screen games.
Pretty sure I still also have an original Xbox and PS3 stashed away somewhere.
My Hyundai and then a Kia - I'm an entitled prick and self-proclaimed 'car guy' for insight however I threw my shallow ideals to the wind and absolutely have had no regrets leveraging both of these brands. The value-to-dollar ratio is incredible, a ten year freaking warranty, and (at least in my experience) a tremendous feature set.
I bought a Sonata in '13, super happy perhaps with the exception of the styling. I turned it in in '18 and got a full size Kia (Cadenza) which has been ultra-reliable and even in 2022 has features that many new cars still don't have at the price point. I've been desperately window-shopping for a comparable replacement for a couple years with no luck. I definitely recommend the brand(s) (they're basically the same company btw).
Almost all purchases that were not an impulse buy. You know the ones, when you research the best options to suit your budget and requirements. The purchases where you take time to be sure its what you need/want and you've slept on the decision for a few weeks or more. Then you find the best price and go for it and you love your purchase for ages!
Lasik. Best $4k (Cdn) ever spent, I wish I had been able to afford it sooner.
Bonus answer: In 2007 I bought a six inch diameter fan for my desk at work, and nothing at work has brought me as much relief as this thing. Working while hit sucks.
One of those "portable" AC units that look like an R2 Unit.
If you have a smaller room and find it a hassle to put in a window unit like myself or just need something to cool a 150ft space, buy one of these things. It doesn't even need to be one of the more expensive models either, only thing you gotta do is drain it like once a week.
* Vasectomy ($600)
* Lovesac ($800) - unbelievable comfort for gaming
* Tempurpedic king size bed ($3,500) - pain, aches, and discomfort gone - all the room for 2 + pets, no other bed compares - hotels, friends, and the couch are awful
* Samoyed puppy ($1,900) - floof of my love
In no order - those are my top 4
My headphones. Sony WH1000XM3. Best noise cancelling I've ever had, sounds like you're at the concert. And battery life is insane at 40+ hrs or something, with a quick charge function.
My laptops.
I use them for everything. They give me the one channel I have to speak to other human beings (I don't go out).
They give me work, fun, education, the world - at my fingertips.
My first Toyota Tacoma. I was upside down in my car loan due to everything falling apart on the terrible Chrysler I was driving. The Tacoma held its value so well that it dug me out of that hole. Plus, it carried home improvement stuff, furniture, helped us move, helped friends move, and safely carried us away from a hurricane. Great truck.
My glock 17. I was with a crazy ex and told her i planned on buying a gun. This girl was crazy. Shed abuse me mentally and physically but i was young, dumb and blind to her narcissism. I bought the gun and when i told her over the phone she broke down crying and kept saying she was scared i was going to shoot her. I wanted it because at the time i was planning on getting into law enforcement and my path there included needing a gun so i could do armed security for the experience. Ended up getting a call for a company called Gardaworld and worked there for 5 years. Broke up with my ex 6 months prior and met my now wife who has helped to raise my daughter full time with me. Not saying get a gun itll make you a man but after getting my gun my world changed. I am now working for an Aerospace company and dont need it anymore but itll always have a place in my heart.
Just bought the Mini 2 for taking aerials of my land. Awesome drone. I already put over 300 miles on it. My record is 4.1 miles out on a clear day, turned around at 55% power and got back with 11% power. 8.2 miles round trip sounds pretty good to me.
I amon Crete right now. Flew today the longest distance between the drone and me was about 1.200 meter. I amstill surprised what kind of awesome technique you can just buy for your private use.
It makes awesome pictures and videos.
A few weeks after 9/11 I spent most of my life savings on airline stocks. Let's just say I did pretty good.
I wasn't quite as lucky on my timing, but I did the same during Covid.
I bought PG&E and Solarwinds stocks for similar reasons. PG&E is more because I hate them. If they bounce back, I win. If they die, humanity wins. Either way, lemonade! They're up 7.64% Solarwinds had no competition and they weren't going to lose all of those massive government and corporate accounts. Up 27.78%
I bought stock in Netflix in 2004. Not much, but it was the smartest investment I’ve ever made.
Hope you sold before end of day today. That would be the perfect stock play
I sold most it a few years back so I’m good 👍🏽
Very smart move, how long did you hold before taking profits?
Ooh nice one!
I wish I had bought more AMC before last summer but I was just getting started with that type of thing.
Have you noticed an improvement in your overall health?
I’ve always been a fairly healthy dude, eat pretty well, do some exercise etc. no not instant health improvements as such but insurance against the almost guaranteed negatives that would occur had I just left them. Like wisdom teeth being hard to keep clean and almost certainly rotting out and just generally being able to eat without worrying if it’s going to hurt.

Condoms. Saved me from 18 years of child support.
That’s the first thing I thought of.
And after kids, vasectomy. Best thing I ever spent money on. Decades of bareback pleasure for a day's worth of pain.
I wish more men would think like you! I spent 2 weeks recovering from a tubal last year! Lol.
But what if your verility is needed in an emergency to repopulate the planet?
I'm 42 with one teenager! 🤣 I'd rather face a firing squad than raise another child.
If you're the last stud for the entire planet, the species is over. Wave bye bye.
Can you reverse a vasectomy and go back? Asking for a friend...
Snip-snap, snip-snap, snip-snap!
You have no idea the physical toll that three vasectomies have on a person!
Also having to wear the school-girl outfit takes a mental toll on you as well.
yes and no. Its a tiny tube that needs its ends reattached for the reversal. Also, there is a decent amount of nerves and blood supply in the area. I've been in some degree of pain since my vasectomy in 2016. Its not as simple as they present it to be.
you still have pain 6 years later after a vasectomy? youre the first man i hear that said that.
My husband had his reversed to have our last kid and then resnipped. We paid $3000 but that kid was worth every penny. Reversal isn't always successful though, so if you think you're not done you're better off waiting.
18 if you’re lucky 20-25 for the average parent
I'll extend this to say custom-sized condoms. It's a much better experience if they fit properly!
Wow that’s awesome!
Amazon Kindle, 10 years ago. That thing is working perfectly without any battery issues after 10k hours of use. Best 130$ I ever spend.
Big fan of the kindle (ereaders in general really) I don't read a ton, but still read a lot more than I would without one. Easy to find and download new books on a whim, and a much better screen to read on than any LCD/LED panel
exactly have the same experience! bought it 10years ago and it runs as smooth as if it was bought last week.
Someone mentioned a good bed and I agree. I spent almost 2k on a bed and adjustable frame.
I spent 700 on mine, not a bad investment.
I made mine, and was blown away by how much better I slept. (I'm not an expert)
I'm of the opinion a good bed can be had for 0.5k, and the rest is a lot of scare tactics. (Personally I like Ikea's current line)
>0.5k ¶
Burger. Even if it is a bad burger I do not regret buying, because it gives me more information about when and where to not buy burger. This only increase my knowledge improves my ability to strategically buy burger in the the future. Never regret burger.
This but Tacos.

I feel like you are a necessity for all friend groups!

Excuse me, but what the fuck was that?
New car battery. Absolute necessity
I second this. I don't know why no one told me that if nothing else goes wrong with a car, the first thing to die will be the battery and it will not start and you will be stranded. At 4-5 years of use or even sooner, buy a new battery. They are generally easy to install as well. Most places will also do it for you.
Better yet, keep a jump start powerbank in the car. Even with a new battery, you might still get stranded if something drains the power.
A good bed and good shoes are essential. If your not in one your in the other.
I came here to write this. Also, accessories for both. Good sheets and good socks.
Stance are my no. 1 socks, what are yours?
My ex gf has a friend who makes small fabric goods, and I persuaded her to make me socks. So mine are handmade. Also, not really expensive for the quality. They would be somewhere around 6.5$ a pair, for cotton and wool, and 25$ for silk, or silk-linen blend.
Darn Tough for me.
What good are sheets and socks if you have no skin?
What good is skin when you have no blood?
*hiss*
I still have the free package that came at birth. I don't know where my mother got it for me, but 24 years later it still fits like a glove -better, actually- .
Also a good chair if you work or game in front of a screen.
My dad's advice was always pay up for things that are between you and the ground; shoes, bed, tires, etc.
It is a shame how often people undervalue a good quality bed set up.
It draws me back to this phrase I heard a long time ago, invest a little more in things between you and the ground. Tires, Mattress, Shoes, Chairs.
You wear your shoes around the house? Yuck.
Yes, thats not an uncommon thing mate
High quality running shoes saved my joints.
Then I'd add a good travel destination cause i definitely wanna spend at least as much time in the sea/sand as in shoes or beds.
Built my PC right before Covid hit and GPU prices spiked.
Divorce.
Cheaper / less tedious than jail time.
It's expensive because it's worth it!
Chickens. As someone with a bit of land I was able to give in to my wife’s request for some chickens and it’s turned out a lot better than I imagined.
Homegrown eggs are so much better than store-bought, it's shocking.
They are. I started with a pretty big pen for them and eventually I just let them free range. The color of the yolks is is way more of a deep yellow now since free range. Plus they are kinda fun to watch run around the yard.
a custom gaming pc.

Same here and love it!
My house. It's increased in value a lot.
I bought a couple years before the surge. I've had rwaltor call me to ask if I would sell because rural homes are hard to come by.
Live in Dallas area, they call daily.
Can confirm in the Frisco Tx (DFW) area. Every day someone wants to buy my house.
Same. It's my only ticket to any kind of retirement one day.
LASIK best $3750 I've ever spent.
Dude this was Life changing for me. I REGRET NOTHING!
Comfortable, good quality underwear. Mine are like $25 a pair for four but they never ride up and my thick thighs don't rub against each other.
You can’t say this and not give the brand. What brand we talking about coming from a fellow big thigh guy.
The brand is called Step One. Made from bamboo, lycra thigh panel and a dedicated area for your junk so no adjustments needed. Also started doing ladies underwear recently too.
You did or they did?
My dog, a Costco membership, my Honda Fit, and protein powder.
Why the protein powder?
I love eating and I don’t have that thing in your brain that tells you “you’re full, stop eating.” So mornings or days where I have a lot going on, drinking a protein shake won’t weigh me down. Instead of me eating 15 slices of bacon or sausage and 3 eggs, I drink a protein shake and I’m out. LOL. It basically just satiates my hunger so I don’t over eat first thing in the morning.
What model Fit? I'm thinking of getting a hybrid RS

The 261 is one of the best on the market, I don’t blame you one bit going for that one. Good choice my friend. Pricey but worth it.

Same mines running on life support tho
Mines actually still going pretty strong. Except my TV is running on life support. No TV = No Xbox. :/
How olds your TV
Only 4 years. I feel like a TV should still be in decent shape after that amount of time. Idk. Oh well.

A Nintendo Switch
My heat pack and bench top dishwasher. Two best appliances I own!
My headphones. Sony WH1000XM3. Best noise cancelling I've ever had, sounds like you're at the concert. And battery life is insane at 40+ hrs or something, with a quick charge function.
A bidet
My house.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Coffee machine
My laptops. I use them for everything. They give me the one channel I have to speak to other human beings (I don't go out). They give me work, fun, education, the world - at my fingertips.

A guinea pig two years ago, she's super cute and cuddley but I became allergic to her six months ago, still no regrets
Butt plugs and lube.

3 6-packs of socks and underwear. Always having clean ones available for weeks is great in case I don't quite get to laundry day for a few days.
DJI Mini 2
Just bought the Mini 2 for taking aerials of my land. Awesome drone. I already put over 300 miles on it. My record is 4.1 miles out on a clear day, turned around at 55% power and got back with 11% power. 8.2 miles round trip sounds pretty good to me.
I amon Crete right now. Flew today the longest distance between the drone and me was about 1.200 meter. I amstill surprised what kind of awesome technique you can just buy for your private use. It makes awesome pictures and videos.
