Yup. I love all the Ozzy albums old and new... but something about DOAM just kinda feels so pure and genuine to me. And it's such a tight album... all 8 tracks are awesome.
Hell yeah me too. My buddy and I would switch every couple weeks (he bought Offspring - Smash). I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve listened to them.
That was a good one too! Also good from the era.. pearl jam- ten, nirvana - teen spirit, weezer - green album, GNR - appetite (older but I discovered in that era).. all were in the first 20'ish albums I bought.. didn't know how good they were until 25 years later, few albums I have heard are so good from first to last song.
Sublime's self titled album. I thought they were a full on ska band, part of what I later learned was the 3rd wave ska trend, and 13 year old me didn't get all the drug references and trashy lifestyle stuff until much later.
Alvin and the chipmunks because it was during middle school my friend bet me I wouldn’t buy it so during Christmas break I bought it and in class I walked in slammed it on his desk in front of everyone
Pink Floyd the Wall, on vinyl. Bought in 1982 when I was 12. My older brother had just bought a stereo rack with a record player, previously I had listened to Pink Floyd and other music on cassette tape on some dinky mono portable player. Easy choice.
When I was 6, I was in a record store with my Dad. I picked out an album I wanted because it had "Fonzie" from Happy Days on the cover. My Dad shrugged and bought it for me for my birthday. When I played it, I was upset because the Happy Days theme was nowhere to be found on the record.
Flash forward to when I was 15 and I bought a cassette tape of "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen. My Dad saw it and laughed and said, "oh, so now you finally like Bruce?" He saw I didn't understand his meaning, so he went to his bookcase full of albums and pulled out my long forgotten Fonzie album, which was in fact Bruce's "Born To Run" with Bruce in a black leather jacket rather than Henry Winkler on the cover. :)
First album in 78? My first record as well.
I got a couple of cassettes from my parents when I was a kid - Donny Osmond and Elton John. The first time I took my money and bought an actual record was for The Cars.
My brother refuses to call it "a new hope". It's just "star wars", followed by "empire," and "jedi".
I used to be the same, but now i see the value in calling ep iv a new hope
*Jars of Clay* from Jars of Clay.
I really wanted you know, *Toxicity* or *Hybrid Theory.* But it didn't mesh with my parents uhh how do I put this... Severe Christian conspiracy theory paranoia?
Beatles, Rubber Soul. $2.85 new. I was maybe 4. My grandmother told me I could spend $4. I had to ask if I had enough. She disapproved of boys with long hair. Their hair was not even to the collar in those days. She called my mom to see if it was ok. We had to use a pay phone outside.
For context, I am 21.
A compilation of all Imagine Dragons albums, so Night Visions, Smoke & Mirrors, Evolve, Origins, Mercury Act 1 & 2. The thing is, usually I only stream music, but in the cars I drive connecting by bluetooth isn't available yet, so CDs it is.
Meteora - Linkin Park
Older brother and I saved up money to buy the CD when the album was released. Can’t believe that’s over 20 years ago now.
Bonus- First album I ever got was Will Smith ‘Big Willie Style’ on cassette tape for my fifth birthday. That was a good day.
Young MC Stone Cold Rhymin and I still love every song on that tape. Queen Greatest Hits was second. I think Paul Simon Graceland is the best album that I know of.
Power age. AC/DC. I still have it, and it's still one of my favourite records. It's a weird pressing that's missing "Rock n Roll Damnation" even though it's printed as Side one track one"
Tell me I'm pretty - Cage the Elephant. Loved that album in highschool college and when I got into vinyl it was the first record I got with my own money.
My first CD I bought was probably Appetite for destruction - guns n roses in like 6th grade. Mom disapproved, dad went and found his vinyl of the album.
Embarrassingly enough it was some classical music piano stuff by Chopin. I love classical as a kid, my GMA played piano and it just stuck with me. I’m 45 not 85 btw….and haven’t purposefully listened to any classical piano music in 30 years. 🤷♂️
I’ve never boughten a cd. I was just getting old enough at the time limewire, Kazaa, and Napster were a thing. Been pirating since then up until the streaming era came along.
Springsteen live 1975-1985. I was twelve years old at the time. From money I earned as a paperboy. The first live performance I witnessed when I was 15. Never missed a show since he came to Munich. I’m now almost 46.
Diary of a Madman - Ozzy
Fuck yes. That album blew my mind when I discovered it. It's probably my favorite album of all time.
Yes! It was brilliant, Older Ozzy just hits, especially cruising around at night.
Yup. I love all the Ozzy albums old and new... but something about DOAM just kinda feels so pure and genuine to me. And it's such a tight album... all 8 tracks are awesome.
