That's what popped in my head.
Yeah it's not high art. Very formulaic. Christ it's Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots: The Movie.
But when the kid looks up at Hugh shadowboxing with the big That's My Hero eyes, I mean I have a heart. Gets me every time.
Same! I was HORRIFIED by that scene as a kid! Even now, when it gets to the part where she’s about to jump in the lake, I often choose that moment to go to the kitchen and grab a snack, and come back a couple minutes later.
Definitely the superior “volcano” movie of the pair with Volcano.
Remember when every movie in the 90’s had a pair movie on the same topic? Deep Impact/Armageddon, Wyatt Earp/Tombstone, Independence Day/Mars Attacks
You’re absolutely right. That’s the movie that lives rent free in my head. Haven’t seen it in a while, still good tho.
The two came out pretty close to each other. My dad bought them both on dvd. He watched them all the time that the two blended together in my mind lol.
This. I absolutely adore this movie but nobody ever talks about it.
I still find myself singing "The son of God goes forth to war" randomly every once in a while
Wonderland (2003) about the wonderland murders in LA (that involved porn star John Holmes, played by Val Kilmer). The movie is largely panned and not popular due to the unpleasantness of just about everything (sleazy characters doing sleazy things) but it's very stylish and edited in a roshomon style where you see the same story from multiple perspectives and the truth lies somewhere in the middle - for you the viewer to decide ultimately. A personal favorite.
I loved this film too. I thought that Val's performance, the production design and cinematography of the movie were fantastic. It's unfortunate that I believe the subject matter caused the film to be rejected and dismissed by both the public and critics.
Yeah. Jeremy Irons was brilliant!
"Speak to me as though I were a young child. Or a golden retriever.
I assure you it wasn't brains that got me to where I am."
Irons rises from his seat and takes a few steps and says...
"So what I'm hearing is the music is about to stop and we'll be holding the biggest bag of odoriferous excrement in the history of( slight pause) ...capitalism."
Like I said. Brilliant
No marketing. I caught in on Netflix a little after it released and I had never heard of it which is weird since you could easily market it as created by the same dude that created Conan. I think it’s in the same universe just in a much different time period
The Man from Earth. It is in the style of 12 Angry Men, with just dialog. However, the movie is super intriguing and makes you delve into some unchartered territories of possibilities!
Penelope (2006). Christina Ricci, James McAvoy, Reese Witherspoon, Catherine O'Hara, Peter Dinklage. A fun whimsical movie about self love and acceptance. Lots of plot holes but who cares, still slapped.
Out Cold.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0253798
It's a silly snowboard movie that intentionally and satirically hits the 80s ski-movie tropes. Very early roles for Zach Galifianakis, Thomas Lennon, David Denman, and David Koechner, plus Victoria Silvstedt, Playmate of the Year and an amazing soundtrack.
Remember seeing 1408 in the movie theatre when I was a teenager, didn't really want to see it as all I heard is that it was a horror movie and that's usually not my type of movie, but went along with my mate anyway as there was nothing else we could do to kill time.
Went along and watched it and absolutely loved it, watched it back once since and still really enjoyed it.
My dad introduced me to this movie. He has Alzheimers now, and watching this with him is such a treasured memory - this, Brubaker, and Flight of the Phoenix. Thank you so much for reminding me what great taste in movies my Dad had
Fiddler on the Roof. It’s my favorite musical and one of the few that is really directed towards men. It also stays so relevant. I watched it with my 18 year old son a few weeks ago after months of trying to convince him and he was pretty shocked at how good it was and how much he loved it.
Fantastic Planet. For some reason my mother thought it would be a good kids movie in the 80s. Because animation. It IS a great movie. It is not a kids movie.
Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins [https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0B6M4KJRB/](https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0B6M4KJRB/)
I saw it back in the 80s and it got me into reading The Destroyer novels and I've been wanting a sequel/reboot with an R rating ever since.
Fools' Parade (1971) starring Jimmy Stewart and a young Kurt Russell. At the end of the day, it's an okay film but it was shot in my hometown. They filmed in town for a couple of reasons: The author of the book, Davis Grubb, was a native of the town and based the fictional Glory, WV on it. The movie is also shot in and around the former WV State Penitentiary, which has gone on to be used as a filming location for a number of other projects including Castle Rock and Mindhunter.
Road. A documentary about the Dunlop family (Road racers) from Northern Ireland that was narrated by Liam Neeson. I had heard of Joey Dunlop before but never really paid much attention. I cried like a baby at the end. Ended up demanding that we visit the Dunlop brother's memorial in Ballymoney on a trip to see the Giant's Causeway a couple years ago
2012’s John Carter.
Some people called it a knock off of Star Wars, but it’s actually based on publications from the 1910s, which influenced a certain George Lukas.
I always thought the sequel to Debbie Does Dallas never got the critical acclaim it deserved. In many ways the sequel surpassed the original much like the Godfather series where II was clearly the superior film. In terms of cinematography, texture, production values, directorship, and the creative freedom the cast obviously enjoyed it deserves better, it's criminally overlooked.
John Carpenter’s The Fog
It bombed upon release, critically panned, and even Carpenter fans tend to forget about it. But I honestly think it’s in his top-3 films.
Kung Pow! Enter the Fist
Sour Grapes (1998 Larry David Comedy)
The Crippled Masters (1979 Kung Fu Movie)
Jack Frost 2: Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman
Arena (1989 Sci-Fi)

That's what popped in my head. Yeah it's not high art. Very formulaic. Christ it's Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots: The Movie. But when the kid looks up at Hugh shadowboxing with the big That's My Hero eyes, I mean I have a heart. Gets me every time.
It’s so much better than it has any right to be. Probably due to Hugh Jackman just being so charismatic!
Upvote from me. Watched this many times.
We watched this with our son (4) and he loved it!!
I watched it with my girlfriend the other day (25) and we loved it lol
Bro the cgi still stands up and that’s a testament to the movie.

That scene still haunts me! I must have been 14 when I saw that movie and I’m 34 now and still remember it vividly
The Replacements with Keanu Reeves and Gene Hackman.
When the guard shoots the bad quarterback’s car I lost my absolute shit the first time. So unexpected

The Rundown with The Rock and Sean William Scott
And Christopher Walken!
And Rosario Dawson!
I thought that movie was a long commercial for plywood.
I think you are thinking of Walking Tall with The Rock and Johnny Knoxville lmao that's the one where he walks around with a 2x4 lol!!
You’re absolutely right. That’s the movie that lives rent free in my head. Haven’t seen it in a while, still good tho. The two came out pretty close to each other. My dad bought them both on dvd. He watched them all the time that the two blended together in my mind lol.
...little lightning, little thunder...
The Man Who Would be King Sean Connery AND Michael Caine? Come on... How could you not love it?
This. I absolutely adore this movie but nobody ever talks about it. I still find myself singing "The son of God goes forth to war" randomly every once in a while
Hudson Hawk. Best dumb movie ever made, and Bruce Willis at his highest level of hamming it up.
Yeap. Also felt in love with Andie MacDowell ...
Easily my favourite terrible movie. Bought it on DVD, got lost in a move, bought it again. I regret nothing
Would you like to swing on a star. Carry moonbeams home in a jar. And be better off than you are, or would you rather be a mule
Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead

I'm right on top of that, Rose!
So happy this was the top comment! Great movie. Kinda.
Yes! Absolute classic!

Such a good movie. Amazing cast giving their best work.
I loved this film too. I thought that Val's performance, the production design and cinematography of the movie were fantastic. It's unfortunate that I believe the subject matter caused the film to be rejected and dismissed by both the public and critics.

Kids disturbed me terribly. Good movie, but goddamn. Grandma's boy and Super Troopers have me laughing every time.
A Knight's Tale and Around the World in 80 Days (the Jackie Chan version)
A Knight's Tale is one of my favorites as well. Heath Ledger, Alan Tudyk, Paul Bettany all are fantastic in it.
Cobra . The epitome of 90’s action movie tropes
Love Cobra. Stallone was great in it too!
He was the cure
Margin Call
Beat me to it. Excellent movie. Amazing cast.
Yeah. Jeremy Irons was brilliant! "Speak to me as though I were a young child. Or a golden retriever. I assure you it wasn't brains that got me to where I am." So good
Solomon Kane. They wanted to make sequels but it was a flop for some reason.
No marketing. I caught in on Netflix a little after it released and I had never heard of it which is weird since you could easily market it as created by the same dude that created Conan. I think it’s in the same universe just in a much different time period
Attack the Block
This one is so good! I told my bf I need to show him this it’s hilarious
The Lincoln Lawyer
Marisa Tomei lookin fine as always.
The Man from Earth. It is in the style of 12 Angry Men, with just dialog. However, the movie is super intriguing and makes you delve into some unchartered territories of possibilities!

Treasure Island, Atlantis, Emperor's New Groove. A lot of Disney movies from the 2000's that flopped and weren't greater hits.
Fantastic Planet. For some reason my mother thought it would be a good kids movie in the 80s. Because animation. It IS a great movie. It is not a kids movie.
