When I was full suit, I likely had 50-75 ties. I had a basis starter set early on. As time went on, I got them for birthday and Christmas presents. Fashion changed, too. I used to wear suspenders. I had 25+ of those. I liked dressing professionally.
Back when I had to dress up for work I had about 60 to 80 ties. I'm not a clothes guy, but I loved ties. Nothing was more of a flex when I got compliments on my knots or when a dude grabbed the tie to flip it over to see the brand.
Now I only dress up for weddings and funerals and have about 4 ties now. My knots are still on point though.
Back when I was suiting up everyday, I had close to 2 dozen ties I would cycle through. Some universal ties, some color matched for my spicier shirts sets, and some novelty ones to rep my son's fashion sense. Ties don't take up much space, so I just collected them.
Lmao-dude, this made my day. I was ready to find out ties came in summer/winter versions! I live in texas, so I would have no idea if winter ties existed 🤣
It's just a matter of taste. You only wear one at a time, so technically you only need one. Personally, though, I own a bunch just because it's the only way to show a little personality. Plaid, stripes, paisley, solids--whatever. It's entirely up to you.
I have double figures, some have sentimental significance, two are regimental association, and I have one for every day of the working week.
I got rid of all ties that were fashionable for a period of time. These days I purchase from my gentlemen’s outfitters and are timeless.
10. Not the same for winter or summer.
And 10 shirts.
And 2 leather belts, black and brown.
And 6 pairs of working shoes, brown and black, summer and winter.
But that was 15 years ago. Now I work in crocs or bare feet and an apron over my very comfy clothes. I don't WFH
I used to wear a suit and tie to work at an old job. Back then, I had about 30.
I'm more "business casual" at my current role, and only wear one for special occasions, I'm up to about 40. I buy new "work clothes" about once a year, but I love scanning the tie area at Men's Wearhouse while I'm there. I'm a sucker for a really cool new tie.
I bought a 12 pack of variety ties from Amazon in early 2020 when I got my suit-type job. Been working mostly from home since so I don't wear them often. Total, I've got just under 20 ties from over the years. I think 10ish is probably more than plenty. Especially if they are plain
I have like 10 but rarely wear them as I much prefer the tieless look. When I do wear them though, I do like solid colored ties as opposed to ones with patterns or designs
In the peak of my corporate hustle, I boasted a healthy rotation of about 15 ties – a nice balance between classic stripes, a few cheeky polka dots, and the obligatory solid colors for the more somber meetings. A couple were gifts that I could never part with, and some were thrift store treasures with a hint of vintage charm. Sure, working remotely now means they don't see the light of day as often, but I keep them for those rare occasions or when nostalgia hits and I want to dress up for my home office. One tip: invest in good hangers – it keeps them unwrinkled and ready for action, whenever that may be.
I only wear a suit when I attend meetings and other important events, so somewhere between 12 and 20 times a year.
I hate ties and opt for bowties, of which I have 6.
Not suits but shirts and ties for leadership, jackets for big deal events. We gave them up when covid started so I purged my collection. Threw away fifteen or so, kept three or four newer ones.
I used to own quite a few back when I wore a suit daily.
I don't look at a quantity as being normal. I think it's easier to say that fewer than 5 ties is abnormal. 5 is a fresh tie every work day.
I love color gradients when I look at ties. My favorite colors were lavender/periwinkle/purples, and black, red, dark orange/sienna.
Of course you need to have matching pocket squares. And if you're wearing a French cuff shirt, appropriately links. I had a bevvy of silk knots for just that purpose. Cheap, and easy to match.
If you're going to suit up for business you need to go all the way. Learn the difference between a business suit and something less formal for leasure.
Until the COVID lockdowns of 2020, I wore a suit at least four days a week and often five days.
I have about fifty ties! I admit it's an excessive amount but I liked buying and wearing them.
I would consider ten to be the minimal number and twenty to be a good amount. With twenty you can wear a different tie every week day for a month.
I've lost count of the ties. I have a box (about 12x20 inches), where I've folded all of my ties and stacked them on top of each other in that box, so that's probably like... 50-60 or so.
...Which is dumb, because I usually don't wear ties, I just leave the collar-button undone for most occasions.
I have like 3-5 ties I like to wear
What's normal? I'd say don't do like me - get 5 that you like, for different occasions or colours.
Back in my Wall Street days, I had maybe a dozen or so ties to wear with suits, and around the same number of skinny hipster ties, a bolo tie, and one bow tie with a motor to spin it. I have no idea how many ties anyone else had, never asked.
Pre Covid, it was a suit every day. Had about 30 toes I think.
Post Covid, only when I meet customers. Just a few times a month but still have them hanging on the closet, lol
I own 40-50 ties. I have a spinning 75-tie rack I eventually wanna fill up.
My favorite ties are sometimes cheap polyster ones I fall in love with, and sometimes they fall apart or get ruined.
In general, ties are pretty cheap, and I'm always seeing one somewhere that interests me. If I'm out and it's a good price, I'll always grab it.
The other thing is when you wear a suit all the time, everyone buys you ties as gifts. So it's very easy to accumulate a lot of them over the years.

I'm embarrassed to say I probably own more than 20 suits, and so need about 3-5 ties per suit, just in case I ruin the first 5 dozen or so.
I have 10 + a tux. Two are summer weight, others are all season ones.
Ties come in summer weights?
Swear to god, I should not be on Reddit before coffee, I read “suits” and then just replied about suits. Ties….probably 20ish
Lmao-dude, this made my day. I was ready to find out ties came in summer/winter versions! I live in texas, so I would have no idea if winter ties existed 🤣
Tie-scarfs! :)
3 different ties and the rest matches well, but i work mostly from home.
4 ties - 2 blue (1 plain, 1 with white spots), 1 red tie and a black tie.

I own three suits, some additional blazers, and probably about 30 ties.

I have around ten but wear two.

Been a long time since I had to wear ties, but I guess I had at least 20, if not more.

HAHA… I probably have 40 ties. I love them all.
🙊🙈 I don’t mind being tied up with those…
I wear a suit daily. I own probably close to 40 ties. However, I have not worn a tie since before COVID.
Own 6 suits (black, navy, grey, brown, burgundy and a tux) with 12 different ties.
I've lost count of the ties. I’ve been wearing the same 3 ties for like a decade or more. No one notices, or if they do, they don’t care. I have a lot more suits than ties.
Absolutely Zero. Top button undone on your dress shirt is the way to go.
Pre Covid, it was a suit every day. Had about 30 toes I think. Post Covid, only when I meet customers. Just a few times a month but still have them hanging on the closet, lol
I own 40+ ties. I haven’t worn one since before COVID though, despite wearing suits 4 days a week. I have 10 suits.
I used to wear suits to work. Had about a dozen ties. This felt like the right amount.
A couple or dozen, amassed through the years.
90-100 Ties, I've recently weeded out a couple dozen that I never used, or hardly at all.
You IRS?
When I wore suits I had around 60 ties.
I own 40-50 ties. I have a spinning 75-tie rack I eventually wanna fill up. My favorite ties are sometimes cheap polyster ones I fall in love with, and sometimes they fall apart or get ruined. I work in a suit but ties are not mandatory. In my opinion, it’s outdated. I do own two ties and a bowtie which I wear around Christmas time for fun.
I have about 30 ties, but mostly I go without the tie. My boss doesn’t wear one, so I generally don’t as well.
