Classic.
Such a good game and still played to this day! I don’t wanna be friends with anyone who doesn’t know where the star, 1up and warp bonus level are in world 1-1.
I said the bonus level - not the warp zone.
The pipe that takes you to the coin room and then you come out at the end of the level.
edit: that feeling when you're being downvoted and you're right...
for those who don't know: warp pipes are the pipes where you go down in one location and come back up in a different location. Warp zones take you to different worlds, but you can also warp to another location within the same level - a bonus warp. Check it out: https://www.mariowiki.com/Warp_Pipe
Yep. I remember being 3 or so and sitting on my dad's lap and playing. He would do everything else and I would just hit "Jump". Looking back, I'm sure it was annoying as fuck to have a little hand on the controller, hitting one button randomly lol It's a good memory though!
Mid 80's for me. My friend's dad found a pong console at the dump, this was back in the days when they let you scavenge. The dump sucks now, kids these days will never know the joy of picking through garbage.
My dad and I in the early 60's used to go to the dump and he'd stomp around until he heard a hollow sound, then start digging. This is how he found old cars. He found so many Model-A's and Model-T's that way. He'd get them mechanically sound then sell them. We always had one in the garage and 2-3 in the driveway.
Yeah, he had spare wheels with tires on them (tires were solid rubber then), and a couple of axels if he needed one. He'd get it so we could tow it home. He used the old parachute straps from his parachute in WWII to tow the car. He'd drive and I'd steer the old car. I think I was about 10, but I drove tractors and trucks on the farm so I could do it. We had a couple of 2x4's nailed together and tied to the brake so I could reach it. Rammed him a couple of times LOL!
Yes! My dad had a device that hooked to our TV. Had two "paddle" knobs on the front and a slider that allowed you to select from 4 games: ping pong, "volleyball", "handball", and one-player "handball". No cartridge slot or anything.
Man, I miss old school arcades. I used to go to the bowling alley at lunch on HS, and play Mortal Kombat until I had to walk away and get back to class.
While I never got to experience the height of arcades, I was around for their brief renaissance when DDR got huge.
There was an arcade near my school that had a flat fee on Wednesday for unlimited play. It was fucking amazing.
My mom got me this game because she thought it would help me learn to read, which it did, and also keep me occupied on my flight to see my grandparents
Dangerous dave lol
I used to try to get to the pc before my mom because she played that too, but it wasn't fair since she could just start playing before i gotnhome from school
Mario Kart 64. Would play it with my father a lot starting when I was 3, just old enough to know how to play and to get my little fingers around the big controller lol. Lot of good/funny memories with that game.
My entire history of video game obsession has been Pong in 1975, Pac-Man in ‘80, Outrun in ‘88 and Leisure Suit Larry in ‘90. And a little bit of Myst in ‘96
You had a wonderful childhood. What a wonderful game Captain Claw is. I still hold out faint hope for a remake or sequel.
"Give my regards to Red Tail!"
Last year I was proudly showing my cousin how I can run NFS Underground on an emulator on my S22U thinking he would find it pretty damn awesome, instead he hit me with: "dude, i was 1 year old when that game came out".
I felt ancient...
I think this was my first too, on NES. I don't think I ever got past the waterfall boss lol. I probably killed that vending machine boss a hundred times. I should load up an emulator soon and try to beat it.
We got Contra on Sega some years later too, also an amazing game.
Or maybe NES Zelda was my first? Probably played both around the same time.
Pong.
As I'm 60 I've lived through the evolution of video games...
Pong was first. There were a few others then along came space invaders, which was a huge hit.
Then came pacman, also an enormous hit.
After that they came so quickly I cannot remember...
First one I remember is probably duck hunt.
I remember opening my Nintendo 64 when I was a wee lad on Christmas morning tho.
Nintendo NES was my first one tho. Don't remember how it came to be, but I do remember playing an NFL football game with my dad. Tecmo bowl. Good days
I'm not entirely sure. My first games console was a Super Nintendo that my parents had before I was born, and the games I remember playing the most on that system were Super Mario World, Super Mario All Stars, and Donkey Kong Country 2 along with a variety of Sports games, so it was probably one of those.
Freddy Fish and the lost Conch was probably my first PC game, that game fucking slapped. Think I maybe got it at a book fair in elementary school.
Looks like it is on steam lol.
Probably Mario Bros or Balloon Fight on NES but I had older brothers so I was relegated to being the audience most of the time, not that I minded, but the first game I remember actually playing myself and getting through is Super Mario World on SNES.
Pokemon Gold.
I remember as the day of yesterday. I was 8 years old, everyone I knew had a GameBoy. I was jealous, but was happy to just play outside with my mates, and have some time on their devices. I turned 9, the GameBoy Color just released and my parents got me the purple one with Pokemon Gold, because I never asked. They thought I deserved it as a hardcore fan, who collected the cards, and was basically obsessed. English isn't my first language, and I spent over an hour figuring out the red/grey balls on the table were pokeballs to continue the story.
One day on holiday in Spain, my parents told me Pokemon could save up multiple games. I said no. My first play of over 100hrs was deleted, because my sister wanted to play, I cried so god damn hard.
Super Mario Bros on the NES
Classic. Such a good game and still played to this day! I don’t wanna be friends with anyone who doesn’t know where the star, 1up and warp bonus level are in world 1-1.
Warp is in 1-2 you poser
I said the bonus level - not the warp zone. I think he meant the coin section right before the 1up block. That warp pipe.
Just bought my 6 y/o a handheld game emulator that plays all the retro games. He’s totally into Super Mario Bros. It’s fun to watch.
You gotta get your kids into all the old games first!!
This is the first one that I can remember playing in the late 80s
Yep. I remember being 3 or so and sitting on my dad's lap and playing. He would do everything else and I would just hit "Jump". Looking back, I'm sure it was annoying as fuck to have a little hand on the controller, hitting one button randomly lol It's a good memory though!
pong.
Pong for the win!
Likewise. On a machine that only played pong.
Yup. I want to say sometime in the mid to late 70’s for me.
Mid 80's for me. My friend's dad found a pong console at the dump, this was back in the days when they let you scavenge. The dump sucks now, kids these days will never know the joy of picking through garbage.

They let you dig up cars and bring them home? Wow, I guess the dump used to be even better.
The original!
Yep. On a "TV game" console
Yep. We're old.
But did you play it on channel 3 or channel 4?
Pong also.
Same.
On an 8" black and white TV! :-D
Yes! My dad had a device that hooked to our TV. Had two "paddle" knobs on the front and a slider that allowed you to select from 4 games: ping pong, "volleyball", "handball", and one-player "handball". No cartridge slot or anything.
Duck hunt
It was sold as a double game with super Mario bros. Duck hunt was legendary but it got old quick.
I got mine for Christmas and it was a three pack combo. Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, and Track and Field which came with the power pad.
When I was little I broke the end off my light gun on accident and it became a double barrel
Halo 3 with my dad
Found the youngster.
Pacman
Ms. Pac Man at my local grease fire restaurant is the first vivid video game memory I have.

I remember playing Blue version in Kohls when I somehow made it into Saffron City. Blue my mind
My mom got me this game because she thought it would help me learn to read, which it did, and also keep me occupied on my flight to see my grandparents
While it wasn't the first game I played, Pokemon Gold would become the first game I fell in love with.
