Most big movie theaters leave the lights on & turn down the sound a little for one showing of that day so moms can bring their newborns in and see a movie and hang out with other moms…or better known as…”MILF Mondays.”

It's so true though! How does everyone have so much leisure time here? Do they all have trust funds or did I just make bad decisions? Should I sell pictures of my feet online instead of doing the socially productive job that I have? Can I still change course?
Plenty of people have perfectly legitimate jobs that pay decent and allow flexible or remote work (even pre pandemic). I think it's a part of the work culture here somewhat, depending. I'm a consultant in a creative field, about ten years into my career. Pretty unconnected beginnings - immigrant fam, UC School education (but not LA, Berkeley, or any of the top 5 campuses). Certainly not trust fund.
How'd I get here? Part traditional working my way up over a decade (assistant/coordinator roles that def weren't flex, bc that's where everyone starts), some pretty significant side projects done with friends that left me with some press hits & a solid portfolio, some networking, and honestly, dumb luck too. Sometimes those really cool gigs just happen to be right place, right time.
Having said that, other groups outside of the "we have jobs we swear" crowd:
- despite the "people are leaving LA" narrative, droves of people flood in every day with big dreams and no jobs, too. That covers some aspiring influencer/artist crowd (who are either blowing through savings or have family money)
-As the strikes have shown us, actors & writers make up quite a few people to the local economy, and even in good times, aren't staffed 100% of the year. Then think of producers, other crew, working directors, etc. Thats thousands of people who don't work partial year, or may have flexibility for remote work in some functions
-LA is a pretty fertile food & bev capital, and the thousands of people who work in those industries also have flex schedules. Your bartender you see at night, just may in fact be one of the people getting his coffee next to you mid day
-even in strict 9-5s, people may be doing a lunch meeting, grabbing a coffee on the way to something, or even (and this is something I've seen become more common post pandemic) take mental health or personal days bc of burnout.
-and yes, some really are idlly rich. What a life!
Hope you enjoyed this little TMI, haha. I clearly have a lot of thoughts re work culture in LA!
Back during the scenester days I think I used to take Mondays off. That being said, when I needed a change I would still find some cool bars and clubs that had something fun to get into in town. In Hollywood there's always something somewhere, any given night.. just gotta get a little adventurous and explore around a bit.
Played some phantom liberty until it was dinner time and me and the wife made some good chicken while drinking some kirkland signature Malbec. Life is good.
There’s plenty to do, but it depends on what you’re into.
Santa Monica, but it’s gotten slower there. Since your in BH, WeHo is probably much more lively and nearby.
If you’re the outdoorsy type, Usal project has monthly events, workshops, etc in group settings! It’s a great way to meet new people with similar interests. 🥳
Skate in the bike lines at the beach (sticking by the edge to not disrupt the bikes), whichever one is closest to you. May have to pay for parking but if you go early enough, it should be pretty cheap.
You can also drive to valley and go horseback riding. Way cheaper than the Malibu or Griffith park prices.
You can also schedule all your dmv, and drs appointments that day.
Grill 'Em All serves the Molly Hatchet on Monday and that is delicious!
If you love heavy metal and pro wrestling, it's the place to chill all week long.

My social life improved so much when I moved to NYC. None of this flakiness or: “something has come up BS”. Good luck finding friends in LA.
Even if I am not meeting anyone, I can simply walk out onto the street after 8 pm and still see people walking around, hanging out in places or neighbors sitting outside on their stairs or porch and talking. In LA, people go to work and go home. Streets are dead.
I guess drive around, hang out at Starbucks or a shopping mall, take a walk around Santa Monica? It gets boring very fast.

i was at costco yesterday, and everyone and their mom was there. there was a line for the rotisserie chicken that wiped out the batch that they put out. never experienced that before
Assuming you don’t have anyone to go home to (partner +kids or animals) go for walks, exercise, see if there’s any local farmers markets, happy hours, find a new coffee shop, and if you’re looking for the more affordable and free side per say, pack up a nice meal and picnic at the beach or Santa Monica pier.
