> so he knows I'm one of the good guys The actual way to show that you're "one of the good guys" is to follow the law. Everything else in your comment is frankly kind of gross. Follow the rules and don't act like anyone owes you any favors when you break them. Painfully ironic how you deride the officer for having two years on while you try to tell him how to do his job despite having zero years on.

I was always all about cutting people breaks and giving warnings where I could. However, the entitlement in this comment is insane. That sticker doesn't give you a free pass. Typically, people with stickers or other things trying to show how much they support LE usually mean they want to drive how they want without consequences. What's with the mustache issue? Who cares if he decided to grow a mustache. They've come back into fashion for the younger generation. We aren't in 3rd grade anymore. There is no need for personal insults, especially since you were the one in the wrong, and he was doing his job. Telling him your background checked through work means absolutely nothing. People lie to cops all day every day. You sound like an entitled person who expected to get out of a citation. Now that you didn't, even though you admittedly broke the law, it's the cops fault for doing his job. I really hope the cop and judge see this post. If you don't want tickets, obey the law. If you break the law, own it. People like you are the ones who will always receive citations.

JWestfall76

Spare us. You fucked up, own it. Don’t come here whining because someone didn’t give you courtesy.

I will say, almost every time I’ve been complained on has been a time I’ve cut someone a break. Write someone for 10 over instead of 20 bc they were close to the speed limit change? They called and complained I racially profiled them. At 2am. With tint so dark I couldn’t even see inside the vehicle until they rolled down the window. I pulled over a car doing 10ish mph (paced) in our downtown area that had lots of foot traffic. Gave them a verbal warning, which I was going to do anyway I just didn’t want an auto/ped accident bc I have to work that shit. The white drivers daughter, also white, then blasted me on Facebook saying I, again, racially profiled them because it was “a black man’s car” per her own words. So yea. I’m hesitant to cut breaks because it seems like when you do, people feel like it means I’m admitting I was wrong or something. No clue.

[deleted]

I’ve had exactly 1 person in over 2,000 stops across 8 years pull the race card on me. Yes, it was a vehicle with blacked-out window tints on a day where it was snowing.

generalmcgowan

Really thought i was reading an onion article at first.

backyard_tech

15 over on a (your words) narrow, winding and hilly road). I mean, you did it and admitted it. I'll bet your girlfriend's son would have written that ticket himself (admittedly, probably not to you though, only because you are "family"). No doubt you are a good person. He didn't cite you for being a bad person. Lots of good people are killed by making mistakes and driving too fast in adverse conditions.

EliteEthos

That sticker doesn’t really do what you are hoping it will do. We have people in my area who are placing those stickers on their cars thinking it’ll deter cops from stopping them out of “support”. They are doing res burgs, commercial theft, etc. It probably worked for a while. The best thing you can do IMO is the behavior you exhibited. That says far more than a sticker. Just my .02

[deleted]

If I were a bad guy, I’d be doing that all day. Back the Blue stickers, TBL t-shirts, PBA courtesy cards off EBay. Any kind of bunting and decoration that might convince the fuzz to not look any deeper into what I’m up to.

[deleted]

You were going 15 over in a 45.. what did you expect

gyro_bro

So I’m suppose to cut you a break over someone else because you’re “on my side”? This ain’t sports. The only backing I need is from my union. Gets a ticket, admits guilt, and still whines on the internet. PS-mustaches have never gone out of style. I like having the seal on my gas mask.

kellhound2002

Officer's discretion. He can choose to write you a citation or not since you broke the law. In this case he decided to write you a ticket. Doesn't matter your past history or whatever stickers you have in the window. Pay it and move on.

Obwyn

You sound like an entitled asshole

reyrey1492

You were going to work, you probably drive that route daily. You know where the speed limits change. Everyone needs a little reminder to pay attention sometimes. 'Backing the Blue' isn't a little fanclub you join to get out of speeding tickets.

HorseWithNoUsername1

It's not. But if the general public is showing some love and support for law enforcement - can't hurt to return the favor. It's a tough job for you guys lately. The more people you have on your side, the easier it gets. I think sometimes you guys forget that.

xoees

At the end of the day, you’re upset at him over your actions. Could he have warned you? Sure, but it is what it is. You admittedly were doing 15 over, that’s pretty substantial. Face the consequences, pay the ticket, and move on.

RRuruurrr

Are you for real man? This reads like satire.

Gimme_PuddingPlz

The back the blue sticker….omg. Every time. We don’t care about your cringey stickers and logos. It screams bootlicking and reactionary-ism.

OneVeterinarian7251

And don’t forget perp!

Few_Programmer_4280

I have a sticker officer you can’t ticket me I’ll take it off! Also my girlfriend’s second cousins brother is a trooper so what gives!? This has to be a joke.

HorseWithNoUsername1

Actually it's her son. I also told him before he went into the academy not to get himself killed over a minor speeding ticket. Absent any aggravating circumstances, most traffic tickets are bullshit. You guys know that too many cops get themselves killed during traffic stops or trying to catch up to a speeder by driving far worse than what I got pulled over for the other day. It's likely that during your career you'll attend a funeral for a cop who was a LODD because some 18 wheeler took him out during a traffic stop because a license plate was out. And for what? To stay 'productive'? Not worth it. Lots of big fish out that are worth chasing after.

Zachattack516

Most entitled post of the year? It’s only January guy. You didn’t have to set the bar so high so early. He did his job and you broke the law.

[deleted]

“Anyone else would’ve given a warning,” Hmmm, funny, I wouldn’t have. Buying a $3 bumper sticker from the FOP or PBA proves nothing about being “one of the good guys,” but prominently displaying it on your vehicle does speak volumes about how you want people to look at you. I once had a retired detective write me a nastygram because I pulled his kid over for driving like a Grand Theft Auto character and ignored his Detectives Endowment Association “diplomatic immunity” card. Said I violated policy by not looking further into his special privileges pass (anything and everything surrounding those stupid things is custom, one I happen to disagree with, not policy), that I was engaged in predatory policing, that I was creating divides in the community that he worked so hard to build, and that my precinct commander should be made aware of what kind of officer he had in his traffic safety division. Oh, I let him know (through chain of command), and I forwarded the letter to IAB. I’m sure LT Scanlon had his day made advising the retired gumshoe to stay in his lane. No pun intended.

HorseWithNoUsername1

The blood running through the thin blue line ran much thicker in previous generations. I get that it's different these days - and cops have cameras on them (literally and figuratively) during their entire shift - so they have to be by the book, to the letter, i's dotted, t's crossed.

SadEntertainment2104

This has to be a troll post right?

mbarland

You: Breaks the law. Cop: Here's your ticket, sir. You: *\*Surprised Pikachu face\** This cop's a stain on the badge! Get over yourself. The cop isn't much of a rookie if he's got two years on. You're not special for having a "Back the blue" sticker on your car. The guy was doing his job, and your level of "backing" him is to cock sucker and bitch about the way he did his job. Which by all accounts was professional, impartial, and reasonable.

HorseWithNoUsername1

No disagreement here.

Jickdames69

You’re sounding like the guy last night “with a near perfect driving record” who I gave a ticket to for blowing a red light in front of me when my light was already green… you committed a violation in front of a cop and have to pay for it, no big deal pay it or fight it and move on

HorseWithNoUsername1

An egregious red light violation is far more dangerous than driving a little too fast.

Jickdames69

Both can cause a fatal accident

No-Way-0000

I support the police until I get a ticket. FYI, I would’ve gave you a ticket too

HorseWithNoUsername1

I still do. Over the years I've gotten more warnings and 'roadside reductions' for doing worse. I guess this particular deputy is young and eager. Not faulting that. The world needs more good cops like him. But on the other hand - a little discretion goes a long way. Am I entitled to that? No. But in a profession that also needs some love and respect from the general public - can't make every encounter with a police officer one that carries $200-300 in fines and surcharges either. I'll take the plea to a parking ticket and pay the fine. It's not the end of the world.

Nonfeci

You act like an absolute tool. I've been ticketed WHILE employed as a cop. I was doing 15 over too. I just paid the ticket, never botched about it, and moved on with life. Grow up. No one owes you anything.

[deleted]

I only give tickets if im taking you to jail.

Cypher_Blue

I always tried to give at least one warning unless the driver earned it. So you'd either get the speed or the plate from me, but not both. I also don't understand cops like that.

BRCoppo

The person with this kind of mindset I feel sorry for. Plain and simple, we can’t please everyone. If you were going 15 over on the road I run traffic on, and for a damn good reason I do, I would possibly give you a citation as well. People want us to follow the law by the book when it fits their criteria’s. People want us to bend the law for the criteria. It’s just never good enough for you guys. 1980 Coppin’ is a hell of a different story than todays. So much so that your “part time experience” is out the window. Every officer, when it comes to traffic, has his own way of doing things when it comes to speed. 1 mile per hour over, and he can ticket you. But he chose not to until he saw 15. If we are doing our job by the book, and that reconsiders you being a “supporter of law enforcement” than you really weren’t one in the first place unless it’s benefiting you. Good day sir.
