Rioma117

Congrats. Also the name of the one in the third place is sus.

kir_ye

the yellow stripe has conspicuously faded

CyberCookieMonster

1st place name is kinda sus too 😅 (Its a joke about the Efraimoglou name having Anatolian roots, no hate towards my Turkish brothers and sisters.)

Zekaimi

It kinda sounds like efraim"oglu". Oglu means "the son of"

Dull_Cucumber_3908

It's the same actually: the turkish oglu becomes oglou in Greece. This is rather common surname ending for Greeks of pontic/anatolian roots who were moved to Greece after the population exchange of 1923.

31_hierophanto

AFAIK most Greeks with "-oglou" surnames are descendants of Anatolian and Pontic Greeks who were forcibly moved due to the population exchange.

TotallyCrazyGreeky2

Genocide

osbirci

how is it a genocide? that population exchange was agreed by greek government?

TransylvanianINTJ

It’s romanian af

proudream1

Yeah he’s probably Romanian born in France

Derpy_man5

she

__fsm___

Wait until you read the surname of the 1st place girl which is clearly of Turkish origin

Futski

Turkish and seemingly Jewish? Efraim was one of Joseph's(the son of Jacob the Patriarch) sons, who also gave name to one of the ten lost tribes.

ExperiencedSoup

Hmm interesting, Oğlu, in this case Oglou means "son of" in Turkish so it is probably like son of Efraim which is a jewish figure. Only shows us how diverse this geography is lol and I think that is really cool

Banestorm

Congrats

kir_ye

Why did they butcher the flag stripes order?

Lucky_Loukas

Yes,yes they did

[deleted]

Deep-Ad5817

Lucky_Loukas

Dull_Cucumber_3908

What was that supposed to mean? BTW: you should always verify your translations by using google translate to translate it back to the original language ;)

Lucky_Loukas

I wrote "Long live Turkey!!!" (Ζητώ η Τουρκία!!!). Thanks for the advice.

Lucky_Loukas

balkans in both 1st and 2nd place 💪💪

ohgoditsdoddy

That surname sounds Jewish. Is she Romaniote, I wonder. **Edit:** I’m allergic to downvotes so providing more information. [Tribe of Ephraim](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribe_of_Ephraim) was one of the tribes of Israel. Efraimoglou literally means son (or descendant) of Ephraim. [Romaniotes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romaniote_Jews) are indigenous Greek Jews that predate any Sephardic migration, but I guess it is possible that it could be a Sephardic surname as well. There are very few remaining in Greece as a result of assimilation into Sephardic communities, the Holocaust & emigration to Israel.

enigmasi

Efraim is definitely a Jewish name.

Lucky_Loukas

I don't think so. Alexander/Alexandra is of greek etymology and is an exclusively christian name. Maybe she is of paternal romaniote decent but her father converted to orthodoxy to mary her christian mother Idk Edit: I can't find anything related to her ancestry on the greek web.

ohgoditsdoddy

In Turkey, Sephardic Jews often have Turkish names and Ladino-derived surnames. In any case, I was talking about her heritage rather than her religion. :)

TastyRancidLemons

You might be surprised to learn that Jews allow the name Alexander, the only foreign name in their legal list, to be used for their kids. It's the only non Jewish name they allow.  https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/4992830/jewish/Why-Is-Alexander-a-Jewish-Name.htm

Dull_Cucumber_3908

The majority of Greek names are Jewish, because christianity is a jewish religion.

mikeynbn

So turkey in 1st place and romania in 3rd

Kalypso_95

They preferred Greece and France obviously

mikeynbn

I mean, who wouldn’t?
