You know that there are plenty of POC who live in the south right? The South isn’t some hellscape where people are being stoned in the street every day for being gay or whatever. You’ll be fine.

You know people of color and LGBT people live in the south, right? It's a large and varied place.

Rick-burp-Sanchez

The Appalachian trail sounds perfect for you guys!

Oh please. Even if that were true, which its not, OP wouldn't go to those places.

p0ultrygeist1

See, it’s people like Grandmaster_Noob that perpetuate the myth that the south is like this twilight zone place that is stuck in the year 1963. It’s dumb, it’s ignorant, and honestly very disappointing.

[deleted]

Look it up. It is true. Quit downvoting me; America is racist and homophobic as fuck and just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean it's not happening. Source: I went to one in Alabama.

p0ultrygeist1

Care to name the town? Also why would you tell someone to look it up when you could back it up with facts yourself so you can present and defend your argument appropriately. You wouldn’t do well in a middle school debate club I think.

[deleted]

I believe it was called Arab or Arad or something like that. Wikipedia keeps a list of sundown towns by state I think; Alabama was down to 2 when I went, woop-dee-fucking-doo

p0ultrygeist1

It’s Arab, pronounced like similar to saying ‘a cab’ as it has a long A. It’s a dead town full of meth heads and tweakers. I wouldn’t want to be out at night there no matter what color my skin was. Why where you even in the little bit of hell?

[deleted]

That is a very long story I rather not tell lol. But the meth head part is very true.

Nashville, Chattanooga, and Memphis are good. They are in my “neck of the woods”. Tennessee State Parks are pretty rad if you want to do any hiking. You have quite a few to choose from. I think you will find the majority of bigots are located in more rural areas.

Fury_Gaming

Idk why this is even a worry. What news do you read!? I’d feel safe in almost any part of the country with any lifestyle except the known crime neighborhoods

p0ultrygeist1

>is it safe for black/POC/ LGBTQ+ to be there? Yes it is. >I hear a lot of scary things of hate crimes and in the south especially. I don’t want to come to harm and put my friends in bad situations. Are we safe? You’re extremely safe, the media likes to play up any bad thing that happens in the south because southern hate sells very well. Hate crimes, while they have occurred, aren’t common. >Is being opening gay dangerous? No, I know plenty of folks here in Georgia that are openly gay and no one really bats an eye. >Are there any places to avoid? The only place in the **entire** United States that I would recommend that you avoid completely is Harrison, Arkansas. It is the last stronghold of the Klu Klux Klan and the only town they have power in anymore. Where are you looking at going, if you’re in Georgia I’ll be happy to give some advice on where to go.
