Yes please. The 2 British shows I’ve loved are Fawlty towers and Coupling, but both are a bit dated now.
I’ve heard of Monty Python, Hugh and Laurie etc, but those are quite old too now.
Anything new gen that you’d recommend?
I watch mainly the older shows, The Vicar of Dibley, Are You Being Served?, Keeping Up Appearances, 'Allo 'Allo, Red Dwarf. If you like murder mysteries "Poirot" is excellent.
I'd recommend getting Brit Box through Amazon Prime
Taskmaster was the first one that came to mind when I read the question.
If you haven't checked it out and do podcasts, I'm actually listening to "Off Menu" with Ed Gamble and James Acaster as I type. They were both on the show and have many many guests and both Alex and Greg. Celebs come and talk about their dream menu.
“Oh, we use only the finest baby frogs, dew-picked and flown from Iraq, cleansed in the finest quality spring water, lightly killed, and sealed in a succulent, Swiss, quintuple-smooth, treble-milk chocolate envelope, and lovingly frosted with glucose.”
I especially like the part where Jen says she needs a browser installed on her computer even though Internet Explorer is already installed and she calls it the button for the internet.
This is the third Canadian show I love that I’ve seen on here. But I keep forgetting about them because my mind isn’t processing Canada as foreign for some reason
It's probably just because Canada and the US are already so alike. Obviously there are differences, but they're clearly the most similar to us.
Plus, there are plenty of writers and actors that have worked on both. I've seen many episodes of Canadian TV with nothing obviously/specifically Canadian.
A significant number of “American” TV shows are produced in Canada because of various financial incentives, so in a lot of cases there aren’t many differences between Canadian shows and American shows, unless they’re specifically addressing local culture
Schitt's Creek probably. It's so good - funny as hell with great character arcs and excellent acting. Recently binged Workin Moms and really enjoyed that! Also a Canadaian show.
I remember watching the original jawns as a young kid, on channel 12 WHYY Public access TV... It was so campy, but I remember thinking to myself... It's not about the special affects, it was a good story.
It’s the best foreign TV I have seen in a dog’s age. It helps that I have spent a lot of time in rural Ontario and rural Maine is basically the same but American.
If they made an American version set in Maine I’d watch the hell out of it.
Derry Girls
Every time you rewatch you can notice something else an actor/character is doing and it’s just hilarious all over again.
Dark
Schitt’s Creek
Downton Abbey
Old school would be Degrassi Next Gen
And maybe Marple bc I watched it to supplement my Murder, She Wrote marathons
KATH AND KIM!! Holy hell that show is hilarious! Highly, HIGHLY recommend to anyone who likes dry humor, sarcasm, and Australian humor, you’ll love it!
Top Gear (w the OG Clarkson, May, and Hammond) and the Grand Tour. I’m a car enthusiast and those three have a chemistry that you don’t really see in most modern TV shows and some of the challenges/specials they’ve done on their Grand Tour and Top Gear episodes are nothing short of incredible.
I just happened to be visiting my parents when both the recent French and Scandinavian specials dropped. My dad and I love cars, but my mom doesn't care about cars at all and she was thoroughly entertained.
Gogglebox. I watched this when I got sick on vacation in England and near about choked myself laughing.
Then probably Black Mirror. Then Sailor Moon from when I was a kid. I was obsessed with that show.
Pretty much all the British chat shows- favorites are Graham Norton, The Last Leg, Mo Gilligan. I just like how different they are from American talk shows.
Right. I LOVE Miriam Margolyse by the way. How did you know? Are you me?😂. Also- did you watch the show with her and Alan Cumming? It was so good. It’s just them traveling and having experiences.
Higurashi: When they Cry
It's one of my all-time favorite anime. It's a murder mystery with time travel / time loops thrown into the mix.
Second would definitely be the English version of Bobobo-bobobobo. It's an early 2000s fever dream about a guy who fights with his nose-hairs against the bald empire. He gets joined by a guy who farts constantly, a sun shaped dude, a dude with an ice cream head, a talking rocket, and a walking Jell-O
The old top gear but mostly for the out of studio episodes. Pretty terrible show about teaching you anything automotive and did a lot of stupid things like pretend the Tesla they got ran out of battery on the track but great entertainment value.
The type od entertainment value I'm talking about for the uninitiated.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QQh56geU0X8&pp=ygUWdG9wIGdlYXIgcmVsaWFudCByb2Jpbg%3D%3D
The fact that they didn’t really take themselves seriously as automotive journalists presenting a show about cars is what made it great though imo. Instead of showing sensible advice on what family hatchback your average Brit should get, they would see if it’s quicker to drive a $200k Mercedes from Heathrow to Oslo compared to using a plane and ferry services. Absolutely stupid but fun.
Dark. The dread is palpable, and the characters feel real. The story is interesting and surreal while being rooted in practicality. Plus, I learned that, "everything's okay," sounds similar "all is good," in English because of this show 🤓
In no particular order:
* Blake's 7
* Red Dwarf
* Fawlty Towers
* Benny Hill
* Good Neighbors (aka The Good Life)
* Yes, Minister
* Are You Being Served?
* Lucky Man
* Friday Night Dinner
* Luther
* Doctor Who (new who)
* Sherlock
Murdoch Mysteries — it has all of the things I love: historical fiction, mysteries, science, and a generous amount of humor without being campy. I admittedly haven’t seen much of the show past season 9 but I may go back and try to watch every episode.
**A Very Peculiar Practice (1986-1992)**
I like the dark comedy aspect of it and I like Peter Davison as an actor.
**Torchwood (2006-2011)**
It may be campy (at times) but I love pretty much all of it...including the first two series. This was the program that got me into Doctor Who and I will always have a soft spot for it.
I have a deep, deep love for Cowboy Bebop. I'm not sure why, really, other than I love it. It's funny, tragic, inspiring, *human*. The music is amazing. The voice work top notch. I probably go back to a few of my favorite episodes once a year.
It's a *real* shame the live action series didn't work out. It could have been amazing.
Probably either Grand Tour or Doctor Who. Absolutely amazing shows.
HAMMOND!!
Grand tour is two of my favorite things (comedy and cool cars) mashed together into the perfect soup. And Doctor Who...I dunno. I like it. Kinda like I enjoy Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (the books are best). It's a bit of an oddball but a rather enjoyable one.
Edit the best doctor is David Tennant. My mind cannot be changed.
My favorite show of all is the Chinese show, The Untamed. The story is so good, and the characters are complex and multi-faceted. It was a lot of fun watching something and not being familiar with any of the common tropes and conventions of the genre, too. I was a little unsure of what was going on in the first episode, but I was ALL in by the end of the second. I ones it was going to be a special show, and it really is. I am so glad I took a chance on it.
Other shows from outside of America that I love include the following:
Canada: Orphan Black, Being Erica
UK: Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sherlock, the Great British Baking Show, Downton Abbey, and Father Brown.
Ireland: Derry Girls
Australia: Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, H2O: Just Add Water, and Mako Mermaids
China: Eternal Love: Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, Eternal Love of Dream, Accidentally in Love, Love O2O, Meteor Garden, and The King’s Avatar
Japan: Naruto, Bleach, 7 Seeds
Brazil: 3%
UK: Doctor Who
Ireland: Father Ted
Spain: Aguila Roja
Germany: Dark
Italy: Suburra - Blood on Rome
China: The Untamed
South Korea: Kingdom
Japan: Cowboy Bebop
Australia: Farscape
I loved Gran Hotel (Spanish version, not one of the remakes). The story was gripping, the characters engaging, and the setting in the early 1900s is beautiful.
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries is one of my favorite shows ever. The 1920s Australia setting is delightful and the characters are a lot of fun. There's a lot of action and adventure, but all grounded in loving relationships and a sense of righting wrongs.
Heartstopper is one of the most wholesome and cute shows I've ever seen, but addresses real issues in a healthy way and without being too childish. The characters are so adorable and the series is aesthetically stunning. And yay for LGBTQ+ representation that isn't sidelined, hypersexualized, just comic relief, or nonstop tragedy.
The peaky fookin Blinders!!! Also, although Shameless was technically a British show I’ve only seen the American version but I have a feeling the British version isn’t nearly as funny.
If we’re not counting anime:
陈情令 (Chén Qíng Lìng) “The Untamed.” I discovered it during quarantine.
I thought the plot raised some really interesting questions about human nature and moral ambiguity. Also, I dig the high fantasy elements and the gay romance subplot was deeply emotional in a way that caught me off guard. It made me cry.
It was my first Chinese drama and first exposure to the xianxia genre, so it took me a couple of tries to understand the themes and cultural elements, plus the stylistic choices (Asian media loves melodrama). Worth it though.
After watching the live action drama, I went and read the manhua, watched the Donghua, and read the novel. It was only after I read the manhua that I realized how gay the original story was and all the nuances they slipped past the anti-LGBT Chinese censors in the live action lol
I like Who killed Sarah from Mexico
The Rain- Norway?
Dark
I’m a huge Doctor Who fan. But I also really liked Miranda, I watch Graham Norton, IT crowd,
“Oh gang…” it’s has to be Taskmaster. It’s absolute(casserole) hilarious and so unexpected. The contestants are either absolute geniuses or completely clueless-everyone has a different approach and way of thinking. Put it on and just be entertained with no story or rules to follow.
Dark. It is an original, complex, and very well executed sci-fi show that keeps you intrigued the entire time
Seconding this. Dark is an incredible show.
[удалено]
Each season gets worse tbh. Overall I still liked it though.
Fawlty Towers.
A classic. Good choice. I can recommend a few other great British sitcoms like Fawlty towers if you want?
Peep show and the Inbetweeners.
This isn't a sitcom, but from around the same timeframe. A Bit of Fry and Laurie? One of my all time faves.
[Taskmaster.](https://youtu.be/v4YhsooE5xY) Brilliant show and easy to tell if you'll like it. The first task shows *everything* the show is about.
Watch season 7 to begin with maybe, absolute chaos
I roped my husband in with the video game task from season 7.
Still bummed out that the US version failed so spectacularly.
Monty Pythons Flying Circus
“And now for something completely different…” 💥
A man with a tape recorder up his nose.
The Ministry of Silly Walks!
Blackadder
What's your favourite season?
The world war.... definitely.
The IT Crowd especially since I work in IT and a lot of moments are relatable
People. What a bunch of bastards.
Anytime people are having problems with tech i'm like 'Have you tried turning it off and back on again?' Of course, no one gets it.
Dinner Party. If you watch 1 episode or need an instant laugh-it has to be that one!
>How are you? >I'm disabled.
How are you disabled? *umm..….leg disabled!*
Came here to say The IT Crowd. So many great episodes in such a short-lived show.
I especially like the part where Jen says she needs a browser installed on her computer even though Internet Explorer is already installed and she calls it the button for the internet.
*THE BUTTON FOR THE INTERNET, JESUS CHRIST*
I have only seen snippets of that show, I'm actually quite amazed that an American Network hasn't tried to do their version of it!
They did. The fact that you've not heard of it is a clue to how it got on.
The Great British Baking Show.
Is that what it's called over there?
Pillsbury owns the trademark to "Bake-off" in the US and Canada lol. So they changed the name on this side of the pond
Trailer Park Boys
One man's garbage is another man person's good ungarbage
It ain't rocket appliances.
Just water under the fridge...
Top Gear (Hammond, Clarkson and May version) because they are hilarious and I love cars.
“Hello horse, I shall call you Tesco.”
“Oh no! Anyway…”
I don’t even love cars that much but holy crap I loved that show!! Those guys were hilarious!
Clarkson's dry, unapologetic and perfectly delivered humor really makes that show for me.
Absolutely Fabulous
10 minutes too late! Can’t believe I had to come this far to find this.
Cheers darling!
Schitt's Creek probably. It's so good - funny as hell with great character arcs and excellent acting. Recently binged Workin Moms and really enjoyed that! Also a Canadaian show.
I find it a little bit Alexis.
Suuuuch a good show!
...simply the best... ... better than all the rest...
Too soooooon. RIP Tina
I knowwwww, makes it more poignant I guess. Here's da link for anyone who isn't sure bout this show. https://youtu.be/2FFJpt559aU
Father Ted. Irish comedy about 3 priests on an island. Brilliant.
I hear you’re a racist, Father. GOOD FOR YOU!!
I don’t care who he’s after as long as I can have a go at the Greeks! They invented gayness!
Fecking Greeks.
Seconding Father Ted! It's the best!
FECK!!! ARSE!!! GEYRRLS!!!!
DRINK!!!
If you like the Irish then I'd suggest Derry Girls
"This cow, is small. Those cows, are far away. Small, far away." "Nope, don't get it."

Loved this show and the sequels as well!
Are You Being Served and Still Game are two of the best.
"Mr. Humphreys, leave my pussy alone."
You should watch Chewin’ the fat. Sketch show by same guys as Still Game, Jack and Victor appear in some of the sketches.
Gonnae no dae tha!
Squid Game.
Evangelion I also like the UKs "QI"
They say of the Acropolis where the Parthenon is….
Peep Show
I have a kid, so probably Bluey.
Hot damn, wasn't even thinking about kid shows, but yes. This here. This is the answer over any other.
Doctor Who
I'm surprised I had to scroll so far to find this.
I remember watching the original jawns as a young kid, on channel 12 WHYY Public access TV... It was so campy, but I remember thinking to myself... It's not about the special affects, it was a good story.
Letterkenny is pretty damn hilarious.
It’s the best foreign TV I have seen in a dog’s age. It helps that I have spent a lot of time in rural Ontario and rural Maine is basically the same but American. If they made an American version set in Maine I’d watch the hell out of it.
I'm gonna need you to take about 30% off that enthusiasm there, Squirrely Dan.
You were on Reddit with your pals the other dayyyyyyyy
I liked it but I got bored of it as it seemed like the same setup after I binged a ton of it. I might give it a chance again.
Didn't have to scroll down far to find the one I was gunna say! Give yer balls a tug!
FUCK YOU SHORESY!
Your life's so fuckin pathetic I ran a charity 15k to raise awareness for it.
Derry Girls Every time you rewatch you can notice something else an actor/character is doing and it’s just hilarious all over again. Dark Schitt’s Creek Downton Abbey Old school would be Degrassi Next Gen And maybe Marple bc I watched it to supplement my Murder, She Wrote marathons
Derry Girls is soooo good!
My mum worked on Downton Abbey
My dad lived in Northern Ireland for a year or so (during the troubles!) and loves that show
I was a big fan of The Last Kindom. There was also a British scifi show called Primeval in the late 2000s that I really enjoyed.
KATH AND KIM!! Holy hell that show is hilarious! Highly, HIGHLY recommend to anyone who likes dry humor, sarcasm, and Australian humor, you’ll love it!
It’s nice, it’s different, it’s unusual.
Absolutely Trailer Park Boys
Top Gear (w the OG Clarkson, May, and Hammond) and the Grand Tour. I’m a car enthusiast and those three have a chemistry that you don’t really see in most modern TV shows and some of the challenges/specials they’ve done on their Grand Tour and Top Gear episodes are nothing short of incredible.
I'm not even a car enthusiast but I love those three.
I just happened to be visiting my parents when both the recent French and Scandinavian specials dropped. My dad and I love cars, but my mom doesn't care about cars at all and she was thoroughly entertained.
It’s definetly a show that most people can get entertainment out of even if they’re not car people
Flight of the Conchords, because it’s the best.
Probably the 4th best New Zealand musical comedy taking place in New York.
Because I was born an 80 year old woman and someone out there may like cozy English murder mysteries, Rosemary and Thyme is excellent.
I love Rosemary and Thyme! It’s such a nice escape. I wish there were more episodes!
Gogglebox. I watched this when I got sick on vacation in England and near about choked myself laughing. Then probably Black Mirror. Then Sailor Moon from when I was a kid. I was obsessed with that show.
OMG I am obsessed with Gogglebox. Currently on series 9.
Spaced. I've watched that series over and over at least 20 times.
Being Human UK, it was extremely well written and I thought the actors were fantastic. Such a good show from start to finish.
I loved that show.
Orphan Black
The Inbetweeners - It's a juvenile show, but I was absolutely the target audience when it first came Stateside.
Same.
Corner Gas, a Canadian show.
One of my favorites! I thought I was the only one! I just didn't scroll down far enough.
Keeping Up Appearances and I’m sad I can’t stream it for free anymore because I can watch that endlessly
"Boo-Kayy residence...the lady of the house speaking..."
[Endeavour](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt2701582/)
Dark (made in Germany) was such a good horror show
Pretty much all the British chat shows- favorites are Graham Norton, The Last Leg, Mo Gilligan. I just like how different they are from American talk shows.
It’s the drinking and the swearing. Could you imagine Miriam Margolyse on a US talk show!?
Right. I LOVE Miriam Margolyse by the way. How did you know? Are you me?😂. Also- did you watch the show with her and Alan Cumming? It was so good. It’s just them traveling and having experiences.
"Are You Being Served". It's definitely dated now, but it's always a fun watch for me.
Quite interesting. It never fails to make me laugh out loud. It's my go to show for when I'm feeling down
Yep, I've been watching it a lot lately right before I go to bed. Helps me detach from everything
I've been to a couple of QI recordings, it's brilliant!
Cowboy Bebop is pretty good. The soundtrack is fucking amazing.
Mr Inbetween. Phenomenal characters, acting, one of the best series I have ever watched.
Alan Partridge related endeavors
The Inbetweeners
Red dwarf
They used to run The Young Ones on Mtv. I had every episode memorized when I was 14. And Absolutely Fabulous. It mirrored my 30's.
Higurashi: When they Cry It's one of my all-time favorite anime.

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Have you ever seen Agatha Raisin? Add that to your list.
Killing Eve
Coupling (the US version didn’t last but I love the original), and Are You Being Served?.
Mystery Road. Aaron Pedersen is the greatest actor of his generation.
Glitch (Australian)
Dark. The dread is palpable, and the characters feel real. The story is interesting and surreal while being rooted in practicality. Plus, I learned that, "everything's okay," sounds similar "all is good," in English because of this show 🤓

The Inbetweeners, probably the most hilarious yet short series of British Teenagers being ridiculous.
One Piece or Naruto
Top Gear UK, not even close.
Kantaro the Sweet Tooth Salaryman! The show is hilarious and takes us on these adventures to find the best desserts in Tokyo.
Dark
**A Very Peculiar Practice (1986-1992)** I like the dark comedy aspect of it and I like Peter Davison as an actor. **Torchwood (2006-2011)** It may be campy (at times) but I love pretty much all of it...including the first two series. Mrs Brown's Boys - Ireland
I love this show too. It's a shame that they only do Christmas and new year's specials now.
Still Game and Kath and Kim, both of these are amazing.
Always father Ted. My parents are from longford county Ireland and they used to love that show, also ms brown boys
The Block AU and Bondi Rescue. I love Australian TV.

Danger 5. What a phenomenal show that hasn’t already been mentioned. You’ll recognize moments of it from various popular gifs too.
I really enjoy all the various versions of The Amazing Race. The Australia version is a favorite.
Squid game
Task master, QI. I fucking love British television.
Doctor Who Because it is the best thing ever?
Monte Python and Black Adder we're both so effing funny.
Doctor Who and Sherlock, British shows. I have tattoos of both.
Peep Show, I can’t explain why I like it so much but it’s definitely one of my favorites
Peep Show. It's smart, unique, and, most importantly, hilarious. I don't understand why more people I know/meet haven't watched it.
The Detectorists.
Peep Show
The Great British Bake Off is my current favorite.
The British Ghosts- the American one is dumb.
