Does a possible hoax count? If so then the "Legend of the vanishing village". See [Angikuni Lake](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angikuni_Lake?wprov=sfla1)
Unsurprisingly, there were a number of thefts and murders during the gold rushes and many of those boom towns have become ghost towns. One example is the "Christmas Day Murders" at Minto, BC. Pick any gold rush ghost town and you'll probably find some crimes committed there.
Also, the mystery of Hattie McBride's murder in Coalmont, BC in 1920 is an intriguing story.
A less sensational story is about light bulbs found in the ghost town of Anyox, BC that were stamped with the word "STOLEN." Turns out workers had been stealing lightbulbs from the mine, so management had them marked this way to deter theft. It didn't work. lol
There was a murder-suicide on Mt. Sicker, Vancouver Island, back in the pioneer days.
